This store has a sign on the front door that it is locally owned by John and Kathy R. If you want to see the full last name of the owners, you can simply walk up and view it. In theory, the point of putting your name on a restaurant is an act of taking responsibility for what happens inside, and an indication of personal pride for the establishment. Surely if John and Kathy visited this restaurant recently, they wouldn't find it to be a reflection of themselves. Seeing the level of filth and decay I observed after walking in, I normally would have walked right out. But the reason I was at McDonald's in the first place was because I had skipped an earlier meal, and needed to get some food inside my belly, stat. I find that Egg McMuffin's are a reasonable emergency measure. The disrepair of the store wasn't just limited to things one could see in the dining room with the naked eye. I observed one of the cooks struggling with a malfunctioning burger seasoning tool, which required multiple attempts in order to get it to work. Why it took so long to get the food prepared remains a mystery. But it wasn't just my order, everyone was waiting and exasperated. Including the staff behind the counter. It felt like we were all in this together. There were some other things I observed while waiting for my food, which included massive grease and dust build up on hanging signage, water damage on ceiling tiles, a crusty garbage can compression stick in plain view of those entering the building, and debris all over the floor. But the thing that really got me was the dining room. Once I received my McMuffin it was hard to find a clean table in the mostly empty restaurant. And when I went to get a napkin to finish cleaning the mostly clean table I found, I came face to face with a ketchup pump that was thoroughly crusted over with old dried ketchup. I'll spare you the photo. I think it is safe to say this restaurant had not been well cleaned in a long, long time. That said, the Egg McMuffin itself was remarkably fine. I ate it standing up. Mostly because I wanted to touch as few surfaces in the dining room as possible. Hopefully, someone from McDonald's contacts John and Kathy, and invites them to visit their store to take a look around. Or maybe, better yet, sends someone from corporate for an unannounced visit. I can't imagine that a place that prides itself in the consistency of the guest experience would be happy about what they find. read more

I placed an order through the McDonald's app at about 5:00 PM, with everything being delivered by DoorDash. Unfortunately, my child's Happy Meal was incomplete--both the milk and apple slices were missing. I contacted DoorDash customer service, but they refused to help, insisting that I call the restaurant directly. After multiple attempts to reach the store, they never answered, seemingly ignoring the phone. The lack of support from both the restaurant and DoorDash made for a frustrating and horrible experience. A simple order should not have resulted in this level of inconvenience. This McDonald's is awful. The service is slow. The food tastes old. The iced coffee just never, ever is properly made. The soda always tastes disgusting and is undrinkable. Why have we gone back? I don't know. It's close, and sometimes I am in the mood for an iced coffee or double cheeseburger or salty fries. But this place just never gets it right. And if you call the owner with an issue, you get an insufficient response. I finally gave up after the last time I visited a couple of months ago: I waited for over five minutes to have my order taken, even though I was the only customer in the dining room. Multiple workers walked by me without saying anything, including a manager. One of the workers was dropping f bombs. Finally, someone who had been in the front the whole time claimed they hadn't seen me and took my order. No apology. Then I waited a while for food while drive thru order after drive thru order went out. Then my food, as always, tasted old. This place is a waste of money, time, and calories. So after voting today we decided to go here for breakfast and take it home so that we can have some time together as a family and we should have known that something was going to happen. As you can tell from the pictures I had ordered a sausage egg and cheese McGriddle sandwich and the sandwich that they gave me was burnt and you could tell right from the very first bite. The taste that it had was very nasty all I could taste was a very burnt taste in a very nasty aftertaste needless to say my dog had a good treat. Also if you look the hash browns were not cooked right at all either their oil was not hot enough or it was not in long enough one of the other was going on but the simple fact is something was not right because be hash browns or oily and not Brown at all. The pumpkin pie pastry that they had was pretty decent and the big breakfast seem to be okay overall but I dropped it down those two stars because you're giving out burnt food and oily undercooked hash browns and this is acceptable for people who are looking at this passing it out they must have seen it they just didn't care. And it happened with both big breakfasts and with my sandwich so needless to say it was not a happy day for me. I will say this I don't draw conclusions off of one experience I will say that if you're ever in the area give them a try and draw your own conclusions. I just know how I felt during this experience and I'm sharing that with you now, and we're told we're not allowed to bring anything back due to covid-19. So I guess I'm kind of just stuck with bad service and bad food and the reason why I say bad service is because if I get bad food then it's because of bad service they should have saw that the food was no good and made new not just tossed it out just to get rid of a customer. The best any McD's is going to get from me is two stars, now that they've added high prices to their factory food menu. Seriously, check out the comparative prices of McDonald's to competing fast food chains: they're actually about 10% more expensive. With its continued oversalted pink-slime laden menu, this is not making it attractive except in food emergencies, and even then we would consider starving as a reasonable alternative. As for this location: there's a drive-through, it has average hours, and upon the emergency occasions we have patronized it, it was pretty much the same dreary experience we've come to expect. For some reason, McDonald's seems to have taken "iceberg lettuce" literally - every piece of lettuce on a sandwich or a salad we've gotten seems to have broken off the Antarctic shelf fairly recently. You've got better options nearby, from Hot Harry's to the newly-opened Union Café to Gershon's, I encourage you to take them. read more

I'm not going to be one of those people that tells you "I never eat at McDonald's except for the late night drunken munchies fix." That simply is not true. No. Simply put, it means you know what you are getting. And, sometimes I can be fine with that. Generally speaking most people do not visit the Golden Arches for its gourmet cuisine. Its success is due in large part to the fact that no matter what McDonald's you visit, you are gonna get the same Big Mac. However, just because you are ordering the same Big Mac, does not guarantee it will always be hot, or fresh, or made with crispy lettuce. Unfortunately, I feel that in most cases, you will find these inconsistencies at fast food restaurants today. The McDonald's on Upper Union is an exception to that. Whenever I feel the need for some greasy salty spuds, they are generally hot and fresh there. The same goes for their quarter-pounder. In fact, I snuck one for myself today after getting my wife her Golden Stix Fix. It was McDonald's "fresh". Moving on... Their ice cream cones, tend to generally be weak in size. Ya they kind of skimp on that. But hey, at least they are consistent, right? Also their hot Fudge Sunday tends to be lacking...in...well...FUDGE. I mean is there a fudge shortage I don't know about?! I do have to say that they get their Coke right. Out of all the McD's I have had Coke at, they seem to have the best mixture. I mean I feel like Mickey D's has the Coke flavoring corned. I don't know what it is, It just has the right amount of syrup to suds ratio. Last couple of things: The staff is largely made up teenagers and most of the time they are friendly and courteous in their own way. Parking is generally horrendous since there are two entrances on the one side on a very busy street and this place is always hopping. Getting out during certain times of the day can be an exercise in futility. I generally go right for the drive-thru. I don't spend much time inside so I cannot speak for the dining in experience. If Yelp had an option for 2 1/2 stars I would give most fast food places like McDonald's that. But they don't so I will give them 3 stars. 2 starts would be unfair. I give this restaurant 2 stars for the general positive attitude of the drive thru staff. I can usually count on a smile and a little conversation when visiting this restaurant. However, I have decided to quit buying from this restaurant because the only thing guaranteed is old food that is no longer warm. I order breakfast burritos in the morning about once per week and they are consistently cold and hard. Many times they will have the sticker on them that tells the employee when they should be discarded and yet they still find their way into my bag. My choice to quit purchasing from this store is based on my experience with the entire capital district. Many customer service employees have forgotten their jobs are to provide a smile, positive attitude and timely service with a quality product. For some reason you can't eat fast food and expect to have your order correct, warm or expect it to be presented neatly. If I order a burger it is usually all over the wrapper and requires me to remake it. Food usually made quickly and order is correct but avoid ordering apple pies or salads at this Mcdonald's. The pies seem like they have sat forever and are so dried out that they are inedible. I'm leaving this review because I believe after living very close to this location the last two years and seeing a consistent lack of care in customer service and food quality one employee deserves some recognition for making such a pleasant Experience for once. a young female employee I believe her name was Elena or something, quiet and polite sticks out like a sore thumb there worked quite a bit harder than the typical employee to solve problems. Pulled up to the drive through ordered a meal for 5 waited a little bit longer than usual but I saw it was the fault of other vehicles not the employees, my kids were screaming in the backseat and I think she picked up on me having a panic attack and began speaking to my kids directly and calmly. It was like freaking magic calmed their demonic screams while we we waited, once the food was ready she personally checked our bag to make sure all was there, and when she realized our large fry was missing, she ran and grabbed it and brought back satisfyingly piping hot fries while also taking an order on the drive in mic.
