Stooped by for breakfast before heading home from camping. We ordered coffee which was great, love the self serve coffee station. I ordered the baked oatmeal which i absolutely love and wow it was scrumptious! I want to come back just for this oatmeal. We went to the McFarland house for breakfast while on a little getaway to the area, and it was definitely worth the stop! I'll start off saying the coffee was really good! I had the breakfast sandwich with egg, tomato and goat cheese and my companion had the traditional breakfast with eggs, bacon, and toast. Both were really well prepared and very tasty! You order from the counter and your food is delivered to you right from the kitchen. It was a very nice place to eat, a great casual vibe. It lad a really nice somewhat industrial interior, very nice place to sit and eat and chat. Oh and the iced tea and iced mocha to go were great as well! Stopped here to grab lunch and an afternoon snack on a Friday. There was actually a pretty steady crowd for 2pm! The woman who took our order was super friendly and drinks were made promptly. I got the unsweetened berry iced tea, which was just what I was looking for. It was nice to see that they also had a couple of options of iced teas. I also got the blueberry muffin, which had a decent flavor, but was a little crumbly from dryness. My friends all got sandwiches and they said it was exactly what they were looking for. Great selection and flavor! We also went to the other building which houses the Ice cream parlor and an arcade! Large selection of ice cream, sorbet, and bars and ice cream sandwiches. Everyone went away happy, full, and cooled off from the heat! We'll definitely have to add this into the restaurant rotation. read more

Came on a weekend for brunch, and I am really surprised to not see it busier. We walked here in the winter. I hope to come here in the summer to enjoy their outdoor space. Coffee was meh, I've had better, but I've also had worse. Nothing too spectacular or memorable. Their cinnamon bun was surprisingly good. Light, fluffy, with a bit of sweetness, but not enough to make you stop after one bite! I absolutely loved it and would come back for another. A quaint cafe with plenty of beverage and food options. My friend and I stopped by for lunch on a Saturday afternoon around 1pm. We walked into the cafe and picked up a paper menu next to the entrance. The first thing we noticed was that their breakfast options ended at 11am, but no worries there was a variety of pastries, sandwiches, paninis, wraps, burritos, soups and salads to choose from. Don't forget to look at the specials written by the cash register! That's how I decided on the smoked trout sandwich. It sounded too good to pass up. My friend chose the smoked trout toast which was another special. We browsed the extensive drink menu - coffee, tea, non caffeinated beverages, smoothies, rishi tea, and I believe I saw some alcoholic beverages in the fridge. My friend settled on a cortado and myself with tap water. The person at the register was friendly and kind. We proceeded to find a seat at one of the high top tables. There were plenty of seats available. One thing I first noticed when sitting down was that there were usb and power outlets on the table lamps. The convince of the outlets is a huge plus for those who require them. Once seated we only waited a couple of minutes before our food arrived. Everything was fantastic! We both loved the smoked trout. With the smoked trout sandwich it came with delicious broccoli slaw with the perfect amount of mayo. There was a fresh pickle spear and a decently large portion of chips as well. We devoured our meals and both agreed that our lunch hit the spot. Overall I enjoyed my experience at the McFarland Cafe. I will 100% return!! I would love to try one of their coffees and another sandwich the next time. The ambiance was a perfect casual spot for any time of the day. They have anything from a snack to a full meal to keep you satisfied. There are plenty of tables with outlets for those who come to study. There are bike racks outside and street parking is ample. Mixed feelings on McFarland House! I stopped for a post-hike coffee and lunch (was hoping for breakfast sandwich but they stop serving those at 11). I decided on a small caramel macchiato and the Waubesa chicken salad. The macchiato was alright, a little too sweet for my taste. I appreciated having a real mug. The salad was okay. It originally came without chicken, and I felt bad asking for it even though the chicken is in the name. They quickly resolved the problem, which was good, although it seemed like the chicken was just sitting in the kitchen and was quite cold. It tasted pretty packaged. The salad was otherwise alright, greens were alright with plentiful fruit. Vinaigrette also a little sweeter than I'd like so I'm glad it was on the side. Decent service, but for $20 (including tip) I was a little disappointed. Maybe will try it someday for breakfast! read more

I simply *love* this place! i can't believe I have never got around to writing a review! This is the cutest, homey place - an old home turned coffee and sandwich shop. Homey is the key word! It's nothing fancy or super trendy - but that's not a bad thing! It's cozy. They offer wonderful coffee, coffee drinks and teas (among other beverages). They are made with love and quite tasty! Their food. This is wear the 5-stars are WELL deserved! Let me start with breakfast. Their breakfast sandwiches are AMAZING. They are made with yummy sauces, local cheeses, meats. You can taste the quality that goes into them. I am gluten free, and they accommodate that as well. Love that they can make the sandwiches and paninis easily with GF bread! My absolute FAVORITE?! The chorizo and sweet potato hash. Holy cow. There are no words for how amazing this is! It's so so so good that I had to learn how to recreate this amazingness at home (we moved 2+ hours away). The combination of sweet potatoes, chorizo, egg, onion and red peppers is a party in my mouth. Cannot recommend this menu item enough!!! Their lunch sandwiches are also SO good. Similar to what I say about breakfast - quality and local ingredients you can taste. They make everything to order, so don't expect your food to be ready in a few minutes. It does take time! I adore this place. So far I have only gone for breakfast, but everything on their lunch menu also looks amazing and I hope to try it soon. I love that they open early on the weekdays, as it's a great place to grab breakfast on my way home from working third shift. Don't get me wrong, I do love my early morning greasy spoon breakfasts, but it's so nice to have McFarland House Cafe that serves clean, local food as well. They use a lot of locally sourced ingredients and I always know what's actually in my food. Hooray! Moreover, it can be challenging to find breakfast places in the city that will serve you a beer or wine before 8:00am. The Cafe has a soda type cooler where you can choose from a decent selection of bottled craft beer and wines. There's also a happy hour if you're awake in the afternoon! My go-to breakfast is the Anne's sandwich, because anything with goat cheese is a win. And when it has spinach on it, I'm basically being super healthy :) The scrambles are also delicious and full of veggies (or meat/salmon if you're into that)! As good as the food I've had here is, I only assume everything else on the menu is wonderful, too. They also have some homemade pastries, a full service espresso bar, and ICE CREAM! The atmosphere is cozy and intimate and everyone on staff is always so incredibly nice. The place is set in a house and you can choose your different sitting rooms with various tables. There is plenty of street parking to find right outside or within a very, very short walk. However, the place is not wheelchair accessible at all... but in summer they do have some outdoor seating options that could work. I highly recommend trying this place out. You will not be disappointed by the quality, taste, or atmosphere here! If I had to find something to complain about, I wish I could get some breakfast potatoes with my sandwich... but my waistline probably disagrees :) read more

I have been to the McFarland House Cafe twice now and this is McFarland's hidden little gem. With limited restaurant choices in our little town, MHC offers a fairly classic menu with a nice variety of more flavorful and interesting dishes tucked in amongst the favorites. Their Popper Panini is hands down one of my favorite sandwiches. They also do a great Tuna Melt and their soups are delicious!!! I had the chicken coconut curry today and it was delightful! We popped into McFarland's on a Saturday morning for a quick bite and some coffee. We were thrilled to learn they had a dog-friendly patio that was almost completely shaded. A huge bonus! We tried the two vegetarian scrambles. Both of them were tasty and very filling. The drip coffee was good albeit a little weak. I had an oat latté that was pretty good. I work across the street from the McFarland House Cafe so I find myself in there quite often as dining and coffee options are somewhat limited in the McFarland area. The first time I was there I was surprised at the size of the menu and the unique items available on it! This is what makes McFarland House Cafe stand out in my opinion. They utilize locally sourced, fresh ingredients in their dishes whenever possible and you can definitely tell. Their soups are wonderful, and they have two different options every day, along with a daily lunch special. I recommend the villager wrap, or big kid grilled cheese. I also am obsessed with their broccoli slaw, which they offer as a side for most dishes (sooo good). They provide espresso drinks and coffee, which is expected for a cafe, but they also have beer and wine on the menu along with a happy hour on Thursdays and Fridays from 4:00pm - 8:00pm! It is a family-run business and the staff and owners are incredibly friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend the McFarland House Cafe to anyone who is visiting the McFarland area and looking for a great place for lunch or a drink! read more

We ate soup and sandwiches. My companions had bean soup and they split a panini. They said the soup was good. No comments were volunteered about the panini or their small bag of chips. Lovely cafe! The McFarland House Cafe served us our lattes in hand thrown pottery mugs. I ordered a vanilla latte which was the perfect level of sweetness and my husband had a chai latte which he said was everything he wants in a chai " warm, nice level of spices and an airy-creaminess from the whole milk". The beverages were so yummy e we circled back to the dessert counter before we left and gifted friends with a carrot cake and caramel brownie. They were thrilled. I was all sorts of happy when I realized we have a REALLY good coffee shop in our new town. I'm often unimpressed by lattes at some coffee shops. Many of them use syrups that taste like fake flavoring and corn syrup, and their coffee beans lack intense flavor. If I'm paying $5+ for a latte, I want it to be really good! McFarland House not only uses natural syrups, but they use Ancora coffee beans, which have a complex, nutty flavor. They do their best to source locally for food and beverages (they also serve beer, wine and Nessalla Kombucha). The food menu has mostly healthy options, which is a nice change of pace in a town that mainly serves heavy, high-calorie foods. I've been there for both breakfast and lunch, and I was pleased with both. The shop is in a historic house with plenty of room to gather for a meeting. One thing I really appreciate is the play area. It's really nice to go meet a friend for coffee and let the kids play so we can actually talk. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and it seems like a community meeting place. read more
