Our trip on the more scenic River Road was one hour and 40 minutes, and there was no delay at the Peace Bridge! It was not difficult to find TEAliSe, but it is not in the city center of Niagara on the Lake. It is in a relatively plain building; it's very small. There is a parking lot that holds 4 cars. There were not 4 occupied tables when we arrived so I am assuming at least two of the slots were filled by employees' cars! We tried to make a reservation, as mentioned both on their web site and on the Groupon. There were no reservations available via the Internet so we called and were told nothing before 3 p.m. today. When we arrived exactly at 3, there were two occupied tables out 8(and two were high-tops). The customers at both of these tables were nearly finished. The calendar on the web site apparently does not work. One pays at the register. When I approached it to tell the hostess/server that we were there, her first question was to ask for my coupon(if one makes the full price purchase on the web site for $29.99/each for high tea, a voucher is issued). I handed her my Groupon; her next statement was to tell me taxes were not included!!!! The Groupon was supposedly worth $85.00/Canadian for 2. This was confusing since the high tea is $29.99/each. The Groupon says one is entitled to "signature champagne teas for two". We were served a champagne flute of raspberry iced tea, each with two frozen raspberries in it. No alcohol in it! Hardly a "signature" drink for the extra $25.00/2. Next out were our carafes of hot tea. We picked our flavors from the many canisters along the wall of teas and rooibos available. Mine was a chocolate chai. It was nice, but I did add sugar. The carafe holds 700-800 ml of tea, so about 6 teacups per person. The three tiered tray arrived. 3 small finger sandwiches for each of us on the bottom; a mini scone with clotted cream and jam and a tiny fruit tart in the middle, and a mini lemon cheesecake, a cookie, a mini vanilla cupcake with chocolate frosting and a blueberry on top and a tiny ramekin with creme brûlée in it on the top tier. It was nice. No atmosphere, no tablecloths, no linen napkins, nothing to look at from our window seat and most of all, not a chance it was worth $85.00 for two. I never saw a receipt so I do not know on what number the tax was based or how much tip should have been left. It took us one hour and 40 minutes to get there and just under an hour to eat everything, even trying to eat slowly. I am glad this was a Groupon purchase as it cost less than the $51.00(C) for "$85.00" worth of tea and high tea foods with the exchange rate. One more thing, the "ad" on the Groupon site shows a beautifully set table with a white tablecloth. This is a major misrepresentation of the actual tables at TealiSe.

The room felt like it was from the Victorian era, with lovely decor such as couches, mirrors, pillows, and much more. The theme was spot-on, which was a wonderful touch, as it was reminiscent to having tea in the Victorian era. We had made a reservation beforehand therefore, we were brought to our table once we had entered the tearoom. The table had an excellent array of tea cups, saucers, and decorations such as a tea timer, candles, and a handbell. There were also heart chocolates, as it was Valentine's Day, which I thought was a nice touch. The loose leaf tea was brought to us on a cart, which gave us the opportunity to smell the tea selection before choosing it. We had chosen the high tea for two, which included a shareable pot of unlimited tea, four different types of tea sandwiches (one sandwich of each kind per person), five different kinds of desserts (one kind per person, with the exception of the sugar cookie and brownie), and two scones (one each) with jam. When we were given the large three-tiered dishes, we were surprised at how opulent each of the food items were! We began with the tea sandwiches, which were exceptional. Each one was made on a different type of bread; there was cucumber and cream cheese, egg salad, turkey salad, and cheese with berries. Each sandwich was crafted exceptionally, with careful attention paid to making the sandwiches look, and taste, delightful. After eating all four sandwiches, I was starting to get full however, I knew that I had to try the desserts and scone. The desserts included a mini cheesecake, butter tart, carrot cake, sugar cookie, and mini brownie. All of the dessert items were immaculate; they were well-made, tasting moist and decadent. During our stay, we had excellent service from Tim, Sabrina, and Vince; all three were very hospitable, friendly, and kind. Sabrina even told me that she wrote a book, which she proudly said was based on her life story, and how she came to open a tea room. I loved the little stories of the lives of Tim, Sabrina, and Vince posted on the walls of the tearoom; very inspiring! After dining, we then decided to tour the downstairs, which had a gothic theatre (for pictures), and a costume room, which allowed guests to try on different period costumes, then have their photos taken.
