The esthetician stated ahead of time that she is allergic to fragrances, so I took extra precautions: I showered immediately before my appointment, wore no perfume, no lotion, and no scented products of any kind. When I arrived, she accused me of not following her instructions and insisted I was wearing perfume. I was not. I even allowed her to smell my wrists to confirm. She then claimed my laundry detergent was "too strong," despite the fact that I use a single Tide pod and the clothing I was wearing had not been worn or washed in months. She went on to say she was "having an allergic reaction," felt dizzy, and had stomach pain--while standing behind the counter over six feet away from me the entire time. As a registered nurse of over 10 years, I have never witnessed someone have such a reaction simply from being near another person with no discernible scent. She ultimately refused to provide the service. I left feeling embarrassed, accused, and frankly discriminated against. This experience felt racially motivated and deeply inappropriate. If someone's allergies are truly this severe, they should reconsider working in a client-facing service industry. To make matters worse, after I left, she repeatedly texted my phone insisting that I smelled like laundry detergent. The messages continued to the point where I had to tell her to stop contacting me or I would pursue harassment charges. One brief message confirming my refund was processing would have been sufficient--anything beyond that was unnecessary and unprofessional, especially the text she sent saying I made her want to throw up. I had booked this appointment in preparation for my upcoming wedding and was left extremely disappointed and stressed. I then went to another aesthetician who did a great job and said she didn't smell ANY time of scent(even Tide). I had to rush to Urgent Care the next day, where I received a Decadron shot (Steroid), a prescription for a Medrol pack (Prednisone), Famotidine, and Claritin for two weeks. The doctor at the Urgent Care said I had suffered a chemical burn to my mouth due to the chemicals touching parts of my mouth that it should not have touched. It has been difficult for me to speak, eat, drink, smile, and even go to work. I could not go into work on Monday (5/5/25) due to the severe pain. My lips are burnt, the inside of my mouth is burnt and has blisters. I cannot eat or drink like normal, nor brush my teeth. I have missed work due to being in such horrendous pain. I contacted the provider at Cosmo Med Spa and she told me that "I will be okay" and "she will pray for me." I am in so much pain that I had to see another doctor, my PCP, and she also diagnosed it as burns to my mouth. She prescribed Lidocaine. I am now on five medications and I still in tremendous pain (today is 5/8/25). The owner of Cosmo Med Spa stated that she will once again, "Pray for me." I will attach pictures and doctor's reports.
