Rude and nasty is the only way I can describe our experience at this musty and depressing little room. First we called for a reservation. I was told by an unfriendly man's voice that there was no current availability. I asked if there might be availability later. He rudely snapped, "You have to be here to eat here." Seeing the high Yelp rating, we dismissed his disrespectful attitude, and still stopped by to see if we could be seated for dinner. Upon arrival we were ignored, as was a line of people waiting to eat. There was a boring guitarist playing for a group of neglected-looking senior citizens in this dark and dingy space. After 5 minutes of waiting to be acknowledged by a nonexistent hostess, we left. It's clear that the owners and staff of this establishment have no respect for their patrons. They have more than ample supply of tourists who are willing to subject themselves to such treatment, so do yourself a favor and avoid this awful place. read more

I went in before I played golf and the recommendation was the Irish Rubin versus the shepherds pie which ended up being lighter and perfect and a great recommendation!!! overall hands-down 100% the best I've ever had and I'm from New York. It was a dark and stormy night...a couple of my companions and I were stranded in the middle of a horrific snow storm. We were unable to make it to our chalet and after being verbally accosted by a man, we were beginning to lose faith in humanity. A few members of our party were feeling a bit peckish so, after buying a box of pasta at a gas station, we found the nearest establishment that would take us in. McGrath's Irish Pub welcomed us with open arms. They had a lovely band playing traditional Irish music, and with the snow falling outside, it was truly a surreal experience. The Food was also to die for. Each member of my party got multiple orders of the hummus, we simply could not stop eating it! In total we consumed almost 3 gallons of the chickpea-based dish. In fact, they told us they had never before seen someone consume that quantity of hummus before (I later went on to share this feat to my LinkedIn). After dinner we struggled to secure an Uber to our residence, but Mr. McGrath in his never-ending kindness called us a van to whisk us away. He even let us store our automobile in their parking lot under the condition that we did not block his wife's car. After some deliberation, we happily obliged. Interesting place for dinner while in Killington, VT. I had the small Caesar salad with McGrath's Guinness stew. The salad had fresh romaine and good quality dressing. Croutons were a little scarce. The stew had beef, potatoes, carrots, and peas. It was very good. I had the "half and half" to drink. It is half Guinness and half Harps lager and was quite good. Hands down our favorite part of the trip. My husband and I were hiking the Appalachian Trail and decided to stay a couple of nights at the Inn at Long Trail. This pub is located inside. Our first stay was after an exhausting 5 day hike. Owen greeted us with a smile and poured us the perfect Guinness. During this visit we met many locals and visitors like ourselves looking for the perfect drink and meal. It is not just food or drink or service that make this place unique...it is all of the above and so much more. The history of this place alone is worth a visit. We tried many new dishes during our stay in the area...our favorite was the Shepard's Pie hands down just awesome food. Other great dishes are: Guinness Stew, Irish Spuds (we had bacon and cheddar), Bacon Cheeseburger, and the Paddy Melt. If Murray is there make sure to get his advice on Irish Whiskey. We are whiskey fans but were blown away with his selection, details/info on each, and recommendations. Our favorites were the Tullamore Dew and Powers and of course RedBreast. The entertainment should not be missed and if you have a chance to see/hear Donal O'Shaughnessy play you are in for a treat. His paddy jokes are the best and he even found a way to throw in a little country for us (we are originally from TN). If you are in the area this is a must try...but you have been warned...you may not want to leave. read more

I really wanted this to be a terrific review with five stars. We stayed at the Killington Lodge while visiting the area and some guests we met told us about this Irish Pub. She was from Ireland and said that the Guinness stew was by far the closest she has had since being in Dublin, since I have also been to Dublin and loved that stew we decided to stop in McGrath's for lunch the next day. At first we found the atmosphere very true to the Irish pub culture, its dark and cozy and filled with trinkets and memories of past places and guests, the music was lovely and we were excited. Our bartender who was the ONLY person working was very rude and snappy. I couldn't understand why since no one else was seated at the bar. I ordered the Guinness stew and it was amazing!! That's all that saved this stop from being a total fail! The bartender was so rude to my friend that he never even poured her a beer, and when I said something to him about the beer he just said, "sorry I had a phone call", we ate our stew and left. It's too bad ....I've never met an Irish Pub server who didn't put effort into making guests feel at home. read more

My favorite place for a drink pretty much on earth. I was born and raised in Rutland, vt , and have been to many other places across the globe and now live outside NYC. But I hAve yet to find a pub/ restaurant with the "charm" and rustic feel of this place. It's built into the side of a mountain, has a few boulders for tables, rock ledge for several walls, has Gaelic bands on the weekends and Owen makes excellent drinks. He also puts the shamrock on your head of Guinness. The shepherds pie is great too. A great place to chill out with some brews forget about life for a while. read more

Really good meal and good music, and a huge dose of charm, and good service which was surprising considering how packed the place was on a Saturday night-- the waitress was running from table to table and still managing to smile. This past weekend was my first in Killington and I was there with my BF and 2 of our friends. On our first night there we were trying to decide what to eat and wanted something a bit low key. I turned to my trusty friend, yelp, and discovered McGrath's. No one had heard of it and they had all been to Killington previously. We decided to give it a shot and are glad we did! There is a pub portion with open seating (no reservations) and a more formal dining room. The pub is more casual and has live music so we waited about 10 minutes for a table to clear in this area. The menu has some irish classics (shepherd's pie, stew) and more American classics (patty melt, burgers) - something for everyone. I had read that each Guinness comes with a shamrock on the head so I went with this. It is small touches like this that I often remember. I decided to go with a rueben and my BF got the Irish Chili. We started with spuds topped with vermont cheddar and tomatoes. The spuds still had most of the potato inside (not just a crispy fried piece of skin). Everyone enjoyed their meal - no complaints. The food is very good - steps above your standard "bar fare". For dessert (which my BF can't skip) we shared a bailey's cheesecake with maple crust. It wasn't too heavy for a cheesecake and split between 4 gave each person a couple of sweet bites to end the meal. My BF and I were just in Ireland this past November and the service and vibe of this pub brought us back to Dublin. I definitely recommend checking out McGrath's! read more

While I'm sure this place probably doesn't need another 5-star review, I can't help myself! It's amazing! Not only is the food fantastic, but there the interior is like something out of the Hobbit (if it was filmed in Ireland!). One would think that the basics can't be improved upon, but I had a patty melt that was knock-your-socks-off incredible. The salads, soups, and stews as well. My wife had a in-house smoked turkey sandwich, that if she had given me a taste earlier on, I would have eaten it on her!. We were up in Killington for two days and ate here twice. Very comfortable - both decoration and people were nice and homey. Seems very popular with the multi day hiking crowd. We had veggie & dip (simple yet yum) and their version of potato skins. Good. This is a nice little pub in town. We kind of passed it by at first because it is inside of an Inn. Once we walk inside it's really old school irish pub very cozy and welcoming. We had two soups two sandwiches and a couple of beers. My lady had French onion soup which was really good and I had some type of Apple squash soup which was okay almost like apple sauce but it was different. I had an Irish Ruben which was great it was the perfect amount. They had live entertainment that was ok he would tell some jokes from time to time to keep the crowd engaged. We discovered this restaurant while in Killington in January of this year. They had a great Irish band and the food was excellent. The chicken pot pie is definitely work the trip and the Irish soda bread is the best I have ever had. Burgers were also excellent. We enjoyed it so much that we returned a few nights later and again during our most recent trip to Killington. Service is great. Only down side is the limited seating and the first come serve policy since it can be difficult to get a table. Overall this place is great. read more

We had the Guinness stew, Shepard pie, and turkey apple cheese melt. All were superb. The stew and Shepard pie had amazing flavor and the apple cheese melt was an interesting (and delicious) concoction. The soda bread was also delicious. Soda bread and delicious are typically never placed in the same sentence but they have tweaked the recipe and have something special. They also had some of the bust Guinness I have ever had outside of Dublin. If you drink a lot of the stuff you know that some places taste better then others. Came to killington for the weekend to meet up with old friends. Needed to kill some time until they got here and stumbled upon this place. Everything was awesome: the environment, the live music, the food, but what really made this place awesome was the bartender Owen. He welcomes you with a handshake and introduces himself. Stopped in here on friend recommendations, the day of the Dirty Girl run here in Killington- the pub was open, design inside is well done, - just 1 other table of a couple older folk, and our party of 8 with 2 children (5 & 8)- Waiter bob completely skipped me on the drink order, no biggie, so I went to Bar to get a drink, - was very rude and confrontational, kept at me about he was the only one there and was "getting to it"- looking at me saying " What? What?" -- rudest incompetence I've experienced in any Pub, anywhere, ever. I didn't eat, paid my $14 for a double rum (serious?) and left, and will never go back. This pub is a definite stop any time we are in the Killington area. Consistently great food, friendly staff and amazing ambiance. The inn is built right into the side of the mountain and cushions on a protruding rock make for a comfy sofa. Other boulders provide more ambiance and functionality throughout. Furniture is all wood. Casual, with live Irish music on weekends, fun decorations, comfortable for families (except on St. Patrick's night when it gets very crowded and noisy). I went here with my 12 yr old son for dinner after skiing on a thursday night. I had a burger and a beer and a cesear salad. Only two guys were working and it was busy but not packed and we had a fair wait to get our drinks and food orders. Burger was average but nothing special and salad was sub par with wilted lettuce. Interior is interesting cozy pub decorated and the game room next door in the Inn is great. Food was "meh" atmosphere was better. Might go back for a drink but not for food. read more
