Well, here we are in Lake George, 1/3 of the way from Montreal to NYC. Where should we stop first lunch? Oh, here's a place. Ye Olde Log Inn. Or no, wait, THE Log Inn. This isn't Twin peaks. We do things that American way here. Anyhow, a couple Caesar salads either grilled chicken later, we exit, satisfied not only by our food but by the atmosphere. For this is, indeed, a log structure, or one created to make you think it's one. The salads are serviceable, chopped into 4" strips and piled high with cheese, croutons, and dressing. The game heads on the wall stare down at us forlornly. The blackboard touts a special that reads, "Blu balls. Saw this place on Yelp and thought it'd be a nice spot for a late lunch. We were seated right away. Drinks were quick and ordering was easy. Ordered the NY strip steak. This includes the salad bar. The salad bar is pretty big and has an excellent assortment of delicious stuff to pile on to your plate. Also has fresh baked breads! After another morning of fishing for lake trout on beautiful Lake George, three of us drove here from Hague. Worth the trip. Fairly crowded for a Tuesday lunch in early October, but we were able to snag the last three stools at the bar. Our buddy, Downrigger Dan is a regular. He is a legend of the lake. Barmaid Randy knew Dan's order (garlic parmesan wings) b4 he did.. My best friend, Locomotive Breath (formerly known as Zagbolt) had a grilled chicken sandwich. I had my usual WD CB w fries. Burgers here have a nice charbroiled flavor. Perfectly cooked. Locomotive Breath's sandwich looked and smelled really look. DD inhaled his wings. No crumbs, and nary a chicken bone was left. Ice cold Buds (and a lot of them). Great service, clean bathrooms, nice scenery. What more do you need? Solid 4 stars. read more

Came in and were overwhelmed by the loudness of the place. Not horrible but just people having a good time with there drink which makes everyone become hard of hearing. but, Honestly, if we were not so hungry and in Lake George where they have nearly no parking lots we probably would have left. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who was able to direct us to a high top so we could sit and look at a menu. As we sat I noticed people at the bar staring a little too much at us like and the message it conveyed was, why are you in my bar it was a little uncomfortable to say the least. We ordered our drinks but have to wait almost 20 minutes before they took our order. The place although loud is very cute and has a lot going on as far a visual stimulation. Sometimes less is more. I ended up ordering a hamburger because they told me that the Ruben was not a good size sandwich but just an average sandwich. Now I understand I am not asking for the world but this is an Irish Pub and the cannot put a Ruben together that is meant to satisfy a hungry appetite. Well i guess not. The waitress and bar tender were pretty much on the ball with the drinks but that is probably because it takes so long to get the food. We have now been here over an hour and still have not received our food but I am on my fourth fountain soda. I will update this and tell you how it goes and also give some pictures. I had the French dip sandwich with chips & Mac salad. All Delicious! Boyfriend had the cold platter daily special - there was tuna salad, Mac salad, eggs, grape tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers, onion. It is a busier weekend so we called ahead. Hostess was great, we were able to walk in and sit. Server seemed a bit distracted, but very polite. Please note pizzas are not allowed in dining after 5pm, we were there around 6pm. The prime rib was adequate, kids stole most of my meal. Was disappointed as I had hoped to try their old fashioned but server either forgot to place order, or bartender did not get it made. I canceled the drink after it not arriving and our meals were 1/2 done. It was a nice spot, and my vibe check is that it is combining a great local feel, yet close enough to lake George that it can draw in tourists. I would recommend as it was a nice meal. read more

As I've mentioned before, my family and I really enjoy this place. It has a local, down-to-earth vibe rather than the touristy fanfare. After a full day at Saratoga Race Course, we came here for dinner, and I had made the reservation days in advance. With a party of ten, I anticipated that accommodating us might be a challenge, as large groups aren't common here. We had one waitress, and she was excellent. Although there was a bit of a wait for our orders and the food, it was understandable, and we spent the time chatting about the restaurant's ambiance, which everyone loved, and our day at the track. Have been here at least 50 times, sadly no more. The service was terrible, the waitress was curt with us. The table the hostess sat us at was dirty. The food was the worst we have ever had there. Two fish and chip dinners were horrible, a frozen fish patty? I've had this dish here before, and it was always a fresh batter dipped piece of fish. Fries were undercooked and heavily peppered. Lastly, the burger my friend had was over cooked (requested med) and served in a hoagie role because they ran out of burger rolls (?). Sadly won't be returning. read more

Finally a place in this area with great food and great service. My mushroom Swiss burger was cooked perfectly and they even have gluten free buns! They are knowledgeable about gluten and any other allergies. Everything our family ordered was amazing. Some of the items were the Irish nachos, steaks, corned beef, and wings. I will make it a point to come here every year that I'm in Lake George. read more

Turns out not very many places are open for lunch in April so we were happy to find this place. Someone left a review about flies - if you dine inside there are no flies. And we hung out a bit on the deck to test the fly situation and no flies so I think they took care of it. Our server was friendly. The one thing I a tad bit disappointed about is that we ordered 2 sides and wanted to cancel the fries and the server said we couldn't even though we asked less than 5 mins after ordering. The fries were burnt too so we ended up not eating them. The prices were reasonable so no issues The oriental Asian salad wasn't an oriental salad. Team, let me tell you how I did the Olde Log Inn wrong. This place is a damn log cabin off the highway and I had super low expectations of a place that could seat 11 people immediately. Boy was I wrong! Super friendly bar atmosphere and with an exceptional menu of sandwiches to boot. My buddies had Michael's Masterpiece and chicken parm and they both looked divine. I myself had the Bavarian pretzel bites appetizer (no pic, we flew through these and they were amazing!) and a beet and goat cheese salad with a light and fragrant lemon vinaigrette. Strange place but decent. Hubs and I sat at the bar. We both ordered their seafood chowder - surprised to find noodles in it. Cobb salad was enormous - chicken breast tasted like it was purchased pre cooked. Bartender didn't seem to be too interested in who was at the bar. read more

Had a late lunch w/ the wife yesterday at Shaughnessy's Olde Log Inn. For appetizers, my wife ordered a cup of the broccoli cheddar soup, I went with six of the garlic parmesan wings. LONG wait for our appetizers to come out, as a matter of fact, I was still finishing my wings when our meals came to the table. But back to the appetizers. My wife enjoyed her soup, no complaints there. My wings, however, had a very strong smell of garlic. True, I did order garlic parmesan wings, but the smell was over-powering. The wings were meaty, and had a crispy skin, but they were also extremely oily (perhaps to help the parmesan cling to the wings ?). I'd recommend to anyone thinking about getting them to select a different style, because the wings were decent before they made them into the garlic parmesan flavor. For our meals, my wife went with an Oriental chicken salad, I had the Mile High Fresh Hot Corned Beef Sandwich. Both dishes hit the spot, they really filled us up. I made the mistake of not ordering fries with my corned beef, the chips that came with the dish were a bit stale. My wife also ordered a slice of chocolate cake to go. She told me later that night that it had been very good (I was still stuffed from my meal anyway). We didn't get her name, but our server was very friendly. I do have one major complaint about our experience yesterday afternoon though, and that is, the amount of flies in the restaurant. We were seated near the windows facing the covered outdoor patio. At first, there was a fly or two about, landing on the windows (trying to get out, it seemed), while occasionally landing on my leg or flying near our faces. The flies never landed on our food, but it was very annoying, at times there might have been up to half-a-dozen about. I know we were in the Adirondacks, and insects can be a major nuisance in wooded & mountainous environments, but some attention to dispatching these creatures should have been done before opening (or doing a better job of not allowing them inside). It was a bit difficult for me to give a rating for this review. The food, for the most part, was very good. But the inattentiveness of management to the comfort of their diners knocked tonight's rating down a notch. I honestly think the Shaughnessy's Olde Log Inn is better than this, and we would certainly come back in the future if we were in he area. Will write an update when that happens. read more

Every time I take a trip to Lake Placid I make sure to stop at The Olde Log Inn. They have great beer options. I love their wraps and they also have really good specials. And the service is always top tier. The staff is friendly and attentive. For sure worth making a stop on your travels. read more

We spend the weekend in North River and after doing our adventures we were hungry so a quick search and Shaughnessy's it was!! easy to find and plenty of parking, we opted to eat inside and were promptly seated by the fire place. Lot's of locals here, cuz, no one recognized us or said our names so ya know, LOL. I believe our server was Jill, I'll need to look at our receipt, later and update if I am wrong. Anyway she is quick on the whit and funny as hell!! I ordered a Guinness and guess what- they ran out. So I went with a Sam Adams, not the same but it's okay. I ordered the beef dip it was was really good steak was sliced thin, hoagie was nicely toasted and topped with sautéed onions and lots of melted Swiss cheese the side of au jus was plenty. I ate the whole thing and hubby really enjoyed his meal, again, I'll need to update my review on what he ordered- (having a brain fart right now after pulling a double shift today). I am sorry some patrons had unhappy meals here, but I cannot say the same for us. Ours was very delicious, locals were friendly and our waitress was great! Ya we will be back. read more

This place is unassuming and very laid back, in a local hangout sort of way. It blows me away that someone would complain about how "dark" the place is and blast it for that, when it is not that dark and the food is good enough to overcome any lighting issues. We started with beer, mozzarella sticks and the side salads that come with the meals. The beer choices were solid and the salad hit the spot. The mozzarella sticks were not my favorite as I think the cheese to breading ratio was a bit off, but it's a personal preference thing more than a knock. I will say I had a bit of disappointment as I was hoping for the prime rib and due to a supply issue, they didn't get it this week. As a fall back, I ordered the steak and others at my table had a chicken dish, a Rueben and the kids all got grilled cheeses. The steak was good. Some of the ends were a bit too charred for me at my medium rare request. They added onions and mushrooms even though I didn't request (and I got charged for them) which was a bit of an issue we had to address. The spiced corn was amazing reminding me of Mexican street corn minus the crema. The others in my group all ate their food saying how tasty their meals were and even the kids scarfed down their sandwiches with no delay or argument. All in all, a great little find. A few small dings holds back from a 5 star rating but well within reach of getting there in my opinion and the food is already there. read more

En route home from a visit to Oscar's Smokehouse with my friend and neighbor, Kim, I suggested we stop for a drink at the Olde Log Inn on Route 9. I had been there once before, with my husband, on a return trip from Lake Placid last year. I knew Kim - who managed one of Saratoga Spring's most popular downtown restaurants for almost 30 years - would enjoy the fun Adirondack decor and laid back atmosphere. It was the perfect choice! It was mid-afternoon so we ordered drinks and appetizers. As luck would have it, our server, Jill, knew Kim and rapid conversation ensued. We loved Jill's sparkly mask that was also worn by other employees in the restaurant. Nothing remarkable about the drinks but the appetizers ... ! Wow!! Kim and I are huge chicken wings aficionados. We know good ones and let me tell you, the Garlic Parmesan Wings were the best we'd ever eaten. A nice size, crisp without being over-cooked, juicy and flavorful, they are nothing short of amazing. Kim even ordered another flavor of wings to take home to her son who is also a fan of good ones. Our other appetizer choice was the enormous Nachos (regular, not Irish which are also offered). Megaplate that we hardly put a dent in and I wound up taking home (along with most of the wings). I've driven past, on Route 9, and scrolled past, on Yelp, the Olde Log Inn many times, always wondering when I'd stop for dinner. Today, after discovering a different place my family wanted to visit hadn't updated their hours and was closed, we stopped here. Sometimes, when one door closes, another one opens. Dinner here was redemption for the evening and satisfaction for the meal. It's very homey, cozy, and friendly here. We felt like regulars here even as the door was held open for us to enter. I hope you don't mind Bambi's extended family watching you from above. The menu offers items I'd call comfort food, with lots of burger and sandwich options as well. My mom's turkey sandwich contained about an inch of thick freshly baked turkey. The steak in my steak and bleu cheese salad was grilled to order and nicely - subtly - spiced with cajun seasoning without being overpowering. My sister's burger was also cooked to perfection and served with hand-cut fries. These were lukewarm, probably made before the burger was completely cooked, but they were again nicely seasoned and still delicious at a less-than-ideal temperature. The portions for the fries and the sweet potato fries (also well made, and they were hot) are large enough for 2. It's about a half-hour drive for my family to get here, but we're prepared to make that drive on a regular basis to dine here. read more

Great family friendly restaurant. The management has their patrons in mind with the two team efforts on tables. The salad bar is a nice touch, to have right before dinner. Everything was fresh and well maintained. We opted for the prime rib! A little of a delay to get the main course but it was delicious. If you enjoy a nice slab a meat, definitely go for this. As a suggestion, bread and butter can be offered and brought to the table. The only thing I would change would be the lighting. I find it to be way too dark to eat dinner in. Excellent place to stop on your way traveling north or south on I-87. Food was delicious and a very homey ambience. Loved it.

My sister recommended this place, saying the food is really good. I found it to be okay. Salad was fresh. My veal parmigiana special was okay, not great. My other half had the full rack of ribs. Huge, but the meat didn't fall off the bone, you had to bite it off and get your hands messy with sauce. Tasty though. Our daughter in laws Linguine with white clam sauce (which the waitress said was on the creamy side when the order was placed) tasted like New England Clam Chowder, according to her. We had a fantastic lunch here after walking around Lake George all morning. It's a few minutes outside of Lake George in a stand alone location with plenty of parking and seating. We arrived around 11:30 and had such a friendly waitress - she was so fun and I loved her sparkly mask. We decided to sit on the deck instead of inside and it was a nice day to eat outside. Only complaint were the flies. Not much the restaurant can do about that but several times they were into our food and we had to keep shooing them away which was a nuisance. The menu is great. They have a huge selection of burgers and sandwiches. They also had a board with unique specials. Everything looked so good that it was hard to pick! We shared a bowl of the Kick 'N Crab chowder. Loved the little kick at the end. Very nice. For meals, I got a French roast beef dip. It was huge. I was in awe when it arrived. Just tons of food. The meat was great and the dip was just so delicious. And the fries were amazing. My dining partner got the mile high reuben with the sweet potato fries. He loved the sandwich. I tried the sweet potato fries and they were off the charts good. I usually don't like sweet potato fries but wow, and the strawberry yogurt dip for them was bold and absolutely perfect. Yum. We had so much food that we filled up a to go box to the brim. And we enjoyed it later that night - still tasted just as good. Prices were great for the amount of food and our waitress really made it a nice dining experience.
