McGuire's is a Yakima institution. It's fairly intimate, low ceilings, lots of TVs, a sit-down Ms Pac Man table game, and a couple dart boards. Quirky Irish themed decor, strong drinks, and a surprisingly killer menu. Have been popping in here periodically for 30+ years (in the 90s it was our go-to for cocktails when the now-defunct dance club was next door). Last weekend we were looking for somewhere to wind down on a Sunday night to watch the Seahawks game, have a couple drinks and some dinner. The super friendly bartender seemed to be masterfully running the whole front of house alone. Never disappointed by the food here: Hubs had the corned beef & cabbage and I had the Blarney Burger (double patty with a fried egg) side of delicious potato salad. The portions were big so we took enough home to have for lunch the next day. Local favorite! read more

As yous know, I struggle to give reviews for places without going three times at least! However, I must review in hopes that maybe they would care and change some things! First, I walked in the door, and wasn't sure what to do, as it looked as though the dining room was not in use. I walked to the bar and it had quite a few people in so I asked the bar tender should I sit anywhere. She told me sure, she'd be right with me. She seemed busy and very distracted (having bar tended I know what it can be like) however, when she finally came up wait on me she seemed annoyed! She didn't have any clue what to recommend for cider (come on, its an Irish pub), again I heard the table next to me ask for Irish beer, again she seemed annoyed and told them they won't get anything like that here (really, at an Irish pub)! Not impressed! However, the reason I gave 2 stars is because of the decor, and Frank, the server who took over after the first waitress left! He was great! He was attentive, very friendly, and an excellent waiter. Now, to the food! Gross! I pulled my fish ssnebich apart cause it was so greasy I almost couldn't eat it! The halibut was way over cooked, it was tough and the outside with soaked with grease! For me, this is the nail in the coffin! As a chef, and food critique, I know I'm picky, but I would never have allowed the sandwich I was served to leave my kitchen! The decor, and the quaint wee dining room was a great place to eat lunch! However, the music was too loud, and it was classic rock, which in other atmospheres would not be an issues, but again, this is supposed to be an Irish pub! What this actually is, is an American bar that maybe at one time was run like an Irish pub, but it's not anymore! Makes me sad cause I thought maybe I found a place to go when we are in Yakima! Not so much! I hope they make some changes, but it seems there are lots of locals who are not there for the good and instead are there for American beer! read more

Zero stars is probably more like it! The worker there he said his name was Duke he said he was the manager, but gave me the WORST SERVICE EVER DO NOT GO HERE. I ordered Budweiser and he didn't tell me he was out just brought me out Michelob. I said I didn't want Michelob what else do you have and he cussed at me and said the list was on the f-ing wall and asked me whats the matter could I not f-ing read. He told me he was running the bar so he could talk to me however he wanted. I just want the owners and people going there to be aware of how people are being treated here. Extremely unprofessional. I ordered to-go so I can't really speak on ambiance or waiting service, but to-go service was great. I ordered a chicken strip basket which came with 4 huge strips and fries! It was typical price I think $10-$12 dollars. I will say the ranch dipping sauce was so good!! Plus, the strips tasted like they were actually deep fried versus like the came out of frozen bag and popped in the oven. There was a large amount of fries. Until restaurant week this year, 2019, I didn't know that they actually serve food here. I figured the periodic dinners around St. Patrick's Day for a special occasion, but to my delight, I now know they serve some delightful Irish favorites along with Standard bar food. The place effectively functions as two separate establishments. After walking in to the right, there is an area with tables, that's much more set up for dining in larger groups. To the left, is the bar area, with plenty of seating, but not a place where you have the family in for dinner. The drink menu is pretty standard, but there menu is rather expansive! They have standard bar food with burgers, salads and fried goods, as well as a whole section devoted to Irish food! We came in for restaurant week and had beef and Guinness stew... Amazing! They also had plenty of other Irish favorites like bubbles and squeak, Irish stew and shepherds pie. I've also got a pretty creative chef here, who will serve up things like dill crusted salmon, some really solid fettuccine Alfredo and other non-Irish type foods, that all look to be really good. Our meal also started with Dublin coddle soup and reuben fritters. The Reuben fritters may be the best appetizer we've had this year! It was a totally unexpected fine, and something that we will absolutely be ordering again in the future. For dessert we had gingerbread with ice cream as well as bread pudding. Again, an unexpected find was the bread pudding. I am not normally a fan of the texture, but the stuff was absolutely delicious. The whole meal was a story of good and great - everything was good, but some items were out phenomenally done. This was a great surprise and is a spot we're excited to try again! read more

My friend and I went here Friday March 23 and Mr. Andrew the bouncer made this a horrible experience. My friend showed her California ID and said she could not get in. She provided her WA ID but said he was not gonna let her in because "she was too lazy" to take that WA one out in the first place. And once I took out the WA id he said "what do you want me to do, throw it over the fence?" He had the audacity to smile and smirk. Meatloaf dinner with asparagus & potatoes was the special tonight + soup. I was in the mood for vegetables or salad. They had 5 or 6 pretty standard salads which they were willing to modify to avoid some food allergies. The end result was a good salad, bacon cooked perfectly, beets, ham, cherry tomatoes, cold hard-boiled eggs, pickles! Etc. Table staff was friendly, accommodating & refreshingly, showed no attitude about my requests. The customers in another area of the restaurant were loud, foul-mouthed, & went on & on demonstrating their ultra political attitudes. I would have lingered over a nice Irish Stout, but the loud crowd made it unpleasant. (That's not the responsibility of McGuire's.) I'd come back once in the future & hope there's a different crowd of patrons. These guys looked pretty comfortable, so this might be their corner pub. read more

I read about this place on Yakima.com for a Friday night things to see and do. WOW! The 10 oz prime rib was outstanding. The meat melts in your mouth with just a slight amount of salt around the prime's edge. Your order comes with salad or clam chowder. I had the clam chowder that tasted homemade with plenty of clams. The vegetables were firm and not watery. With so much food, I couldn't eat or taste my baked potato. Too bad I don't live here in Yakima because I would become a regular customer. read more

Great Irish Pub, in Yakima no less. Pretty small place and tends to get crowded, usually they are understaffed but the bartenders are great. Never had any of the food, so I don't know about that but the drinks are stiff! One of the few bars that I still frequent, last time I was there- a jukebox singalong brokeout and the whole bar was singin the chorus to the Proclaimers song, " I would walk 500 miles" read more

Best dive bar in Yakima, hands down. Possibly the best bar in Yakima! The bartenders are friendly, they make strong drinks and if you go a few times, they'll know what to make when you walk in the door. The crowd there is always friendly, too. Whether you sit at the bar, a table, by the dart boards or on the (somewhat hidden) patio, you'll have a good time. Love the jukebox, too. Came here from out of town with my boyfriend who is a native. Nice place with strong drinks and a horrible barstaff. Right when we walked up the bartender was cd and rude. Her attitude never improved even when she was getting tips from myself and other customers. I've never had a waitress be so rude and yell at customers to ask them if they want anything when there wasn't even loud music on. I will not be returning. read more

Wow, you never know what you're going to get with local pubs. McGuire's doesn't look like much but the food was great. We only had two appetizers, the nachos and hot wings, but they were awesome. The nachos were served on a large oval plate, heaping with cheddar cheese, beef, tomatoes, olives and onions. The wings were a little greasy but came out hot and were extremely tender. We were expecting a small snack and got all we could eat. This seemed to be a neighborhood watering hole. Most of the patrons knew each other and one of the guys engaged us in conversation right away. This is a neat place for a drink and appetizers. read more
