I made a pit stop here during a road trip just in time for happy hour on a Sunday. I got the coal burner burger that has jalapeños on it because I wanted something a little spicy. We decided to stop in here after an attempt to go to a neighboring restaurant was unsuccessful. My better half of the kids had been here once before, I'm very glad that they decided to return with me in tow! It's a pretty basic set up... like really basic! I upon entering, you are greeted with tables on the left side of the dining room, and a bar on the right side. It's probably seating for 40, and there are a large number of TVs for the size of the space. We stopped in on an evening when the Seahawks were playing, so it worked out very well! The bar is about two steps up from a dive, and had a nice array of nonalcoholic options in addition to the standard, small town, alcohol fare. The food was quite good, and pretty straightforward. It's pretty standard bar type food, with a couple of nice burger options, a couple salads, and a couple other fried options. We ended up with a number of different burgers, and a couple of salads. Everything was made when we ordered it, and was really good size for the price. Our waitress took really good care of us, and everybody left full and very happy with the decision to stop in! They're honestly was nothing we didn't enjoy it. The food, the service, the overall vibe and the price. We're all exactly what we were looking for. This is definitely a spot. The food was great, the place is nice and clean, and the service was great! Love coming here. All the staff are wonderful and friendly, fast service even when it's just one person and the place is busy. Food is good.

Amazing food, amazing drinks (Runaway Mule is the bomb) and amazing atmosphere. We had the tater kegs and sliced brats. The cheese sauce was out of this world and the horseradish dip went very well with the tater kegs. Our server, Adam, was spot on and extremely friendly. We were treated like family or old friends. Rare and greatly appreciated. I grew up spending 2-3 weekends a month in the Cle Elum area from the late 70's - 90's. Excellent new sports bar gastropub in the old Caboose spot. New owners opened the new Coal Mountain Caboose with a complete furniture and menu upgrade! The wood tables were a cool addition here and many t.vs are there if you need to catch a game score. We just were about the pub grub after a long weekend of skiing! There is a full service dining with a full bar and many great draft beers on tap. My hubby and I loved our lunch. His burger was done perfectly, he had to try the tater kegs and they are worth the hype, def better than normal tots. Totally tasty esp if you order the fry sauce! I had the fish and very good house cut fries, my fav style of fry. I really loved the crispy breading on the cod and the fact they did not skimp, it was a good portion! Also, I can't speak highly enough of the house made condiments. (I am a condiment freak) The tarter sauce was really creamy and tiny pickles of love, pretty sure it was the dill ones, so a way better flavor than when some over sweet relishes are in the sauce, whatever it was it was tasty! Also, the fry sauce was on point, you can just tell its house made, something extra, no sauces left behind! I did not mind the old reg caboose, fun dive bar and all but times call for a refresh and now it is like the new owners have a fun bar which is still there but the food is much better and over all refreshed reimagined space. We had great service and will make this stop again when driving on the I-90 to and from adventures. Whoo Whoo don't miss this trains caboose! Cheers! read more

Don't do it. Just don't. Go somewhere else. We waited for 1.5 hrs for the worst food I've had in a long time. Elementary school cafeteria food is much better than this slop. They forgot part of our order then were extremely rude when we asked for food. After an hour and a half!!!!!They need to sling cocktails and stop trying to pretend they're a kitchen. It was a 200$ dinner that made my daughter cry and tasted like dogshit. Enough said? Prob not going to that town ever again cause of that terrible experience. You suck. Awful experience! Came in with my family for what we hoped would be a nice meal after a camping trip. The restaurant wasn't very crowded, yet we waited over an hour for our food. The only explanation was that they only had one cook there (why I'm not sure especially considering it was a Saturday night). One waitress brought over the wrong food at first and ended up going back and forth to multiple tables before delivering to the right one. I saw food sitting in the window for such a long time and getting cold. We got all our plates at different times, and each one was a terrible letdown. The house salad was supposed to come with bread and the waiter argued about it when he brought the check after we had to request it, and never checked in about the quality of the food or came back after bringing the food. I ordered a mushroom burger with an impossible patty. There were literally two slices of raw mushrooms on it, and it was obviously microwaved. My nephew and brother ordered burgers, which were so dry. My sister ordered a Philly cheese steak and it resembled dry hamburger meat. All in all, sadly horrible food and service. Dropped in for lunch while in town for work & checked out new sports bar in Cle Elum. They have an awesome selection of beers on tap & TV's to watch the games. I ordered the basic bacon cheeseburger ketchup only with fries. The burger was great. Would defiantly order again. Really enjoyed the hand cut fries. They also have a huge selection on IPA's on tap & I couldn't leave without a fresh J-Box or 2. Had dinner at the coal mountain caboose tonight. It's always a good experience. Tonight we had the pretzel, which was a home run. Not your normal straight from frozen gross twist. It was perfectly baked, buttered and salted. The cheese sauce was great too. For dinner we had a Asian chicken wrap and the Philly cheesesteak. Both were great. I had the soup as a side. It was steak, bacon and potatoes. It was clearly from scratch and well made with veggies and real meat. It was a slow night but Selene who handles the bar and tables is always positive and helpful. My family has been here several times and we love it. I really appreciate that it is kid-friendly and the patio out back is really cute. New cool dining tables, and a nice feel.. Great new menu, we chose a burger and fries it was great juicy burger and hand cut fries yummm along with great service! We have had dinner here twice recently, both times during mid-week. Service was excellent both times. We also had dinner here quite some time ago being told to try their Tater Kegs which were really good. So we went back and they were out of Tater Kegs which sort of started the evening off on a sour note. It turned out that we didn't need them. I had the French Dip with onion rings (so much better than the Tater Kegs) and my wife had a Cobb salad. Both were huge. Second recent dinner was on a Wednesday. They had just introduced a steak special on Wednesday's. It's a small steak, 4 ounces, but boy was it good! There were also salad specials which mostly kept my wife out of my fries. Everything about this estate as great! We walked in with a party of 6 and the first thing they asked was if we wanted them to push 2 tables together so we had room everyone could watch the football game! Talk about anticipating customers needs! Our waitress was new however she did awesome and was very attentive. We had a mix of food options and the fried pickles were a very pleasant and delicious surprise. The cheesesteak was so flavorful and filling. Excellent boneless wings with just the right kick. Handcut fries were amazing, especially dipped in their in-house horseradish sour cream (dipped the fried pickles in it to and WOW!). My BIL had an old-fashion and said it was excellent. We were looking forward to a great burger since that's what we got last summer. This time... what a disappointment. We got two classic burgers with no special instructions. Both came at the same time but one was medium or better and the other was very rare. The buns were overly grilled to the point of being crispy like toast. And the fries... cold. They replaced the fries with a hot batch but they were pretty greasy. Time to replace the fryer oil? The cook? or perhaps both? It seemed like a completely different experience compared to last year. Stopped in to take a break from riding over the pass. Been here with the previous owners and was surprised with how the new owners opened it up and made the atmosphere more bright and inviting, plus kids are welcomed! Had the buffalo wing bites which were cooked perfectly and crispy then had the Philly cheese steak which was also very good with great flavors. My wife ordered the saggy burger and you could definitely notice the use of higher end products in the flavor of the ingredients. Excellent choice of local beers and full cocktail menu.
