A Cautionary Tale: Avoid McHale's Plumbing Summary: McHale's Plumbing engages in questionable billing practices, gross overcharging, and performs substandard work that often causes more problems than it fixes. Their glowing Google reviews starkly contrast with the overwhelmingly negative feedback on Yelp, raising serious concerns about the authenticity of their ratings. My mother, an elderly retiree, contacted McHale's to address a minor leak in her bathroom--a simple water drip from the second floor to the first. The "repairman" they sent removed the toilet which was nowhere near the location of the leak, claimed the wax seal was the issue, replaced it, reinstalled the toilet, and charged my mother $400 for what should have been a straightforward and thorough inspection to identify problems. Anyone familiar with basic bathroom repairs knows that removing a toilet requires replacing the wax seal, regardless of whether it is broken. It's highly suspicious that the "repairman" charged for this routine inspection procedure as if it were an unexpected discovery and logical fix. It was not. Unaware of the subpar service she had already received, my mother decided to proceed with a planned bathroom upgrade and unfortunately chose McHale's for the job. After selecting all the necessary materials, she was charged and then informed, on the scheduled day of installation, that the ivory tub she had ordered was unavailable. Instead, she was given a white tub with no option for a price adjustment, forcing her to either accept the incorrect product or face significant delays. Despite the staggering $12,000 cost for a tub, tile, and hardware installation, the work was shoddy at best. In the pictures attached, you can see the poor grouting job, and please note that they installed the wrong color shelves. The day after the installation, a major leak developed in the copper piping beneath the bathtub. McHale's sent another "repairman," who inexplicably replaced seven feet of copper pipe with PVC, despite the original leak being a minor issue as you can see in the picture below. The new, surprise leak, which spontaneously appeared after the bathtub installation, was a small hole. This excessive work raises serious questions about their practices. To add insult to injury, my mother was charged an additional $1,600 for a leak that likely would have remained a minor issue if not for McHale's involvement. I strongly suspect that the pipe was sweating regularly causing a perceived leak, until the bathroom upgrade was done. The hole in the pipe appears to have been pushed inward as opposed to exploded outward, as you can see in the pictures below, but this is just my opinion. Once the pipe was replaced, the "repairman" offered $800 to replace the ceiling beneath the pipe that they had just "repaired." For over a month, I have attempted to obtain itemized invoices and a copy of the estimate from McHale's, to no avail. Their refusal to provide basic documentation only reinforces the suspicion that something is seriously wrong with their operations. So far, what I know is that the bathroom tub replacement cost $12,000, a wax ring for a toilet was $400, and replacing a small section of ceiling is approx. $800, according to McHale's Plumbing. In conclusion, McHale's Plumbing is a company that appears to exploit its customers, especially those who are vulnerable or uninformed. The stark contrast between their Google and Yelp ratings is alarming and suggests potential manipulation. I strongly urge anyone considering their services to think twice and cross-check reviews on multiple platforms before making a decision. EDIT: I would also like to thank you for being a predatory business that coerces elderly customers, like my mother who is on a fixed budget, into signing contracts for services before the materials for the job are even chosen, inflating your net profits. You are not looking out for your customers and are a dishonest company. For those who don't know, as a business, you must enroll for accreditation with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). This business has been around for 75 years and is not a member. They received an A+ rating from the BBB only after fixing the two complaints filed against them in the last three years. There are over 2,500 reviews on Google, yet I could not find a single one posted by a certified Google reviewer. The Google reviews are run through AI to detect whether they were created using AI, but there is no way to determine if 1) the review was written by a person who actually received the service, or 2) if there was compensation for the review, which would be a clear violation of ethics. If you go back seven months from today, August 19, 2024, you will see reviews with stars but no actual written feedback. These reviews have suspiciously boosted the business's score on Google. These same reviews are not present on Yelp or Facebook. Yelp is not a paid site for reviews. Period. It's a flat-out lie

The air temperature from the vents during defrost.

McHales came into my life on January 16, 2023, and turned it upside down. The salesman was a con artist and lied about his personal life to get my wife and I to trust him and lied about the quality of the product being sold. He did not do the proper load calculations on my house and ductwork and ripped me off for $12,367 and sold me a defective heat pump. During installation, they cut my outside sensor thermostat wire and could not even put the air filter in correctly. Pics are attached. The defective heat pump blasted my home with 45-degree air-conditioned air during defrost, and none of their "technicians" could figure out the issue. During their six visits over a three week period, they struggled to even replicate my issue, let alone resolve it. However, they did do things such as disable my emergency heat, set my defrost cycle to occur more often, hence making the issue occur more often, and also replaced the defrost control board on the outside unit because they had no idea what they were doing and just started replacing parts to look like they were doing something. One time, the dispatcher suggested that I attempt to resolve my issue on my own. After their sixth visit, it became clear that they were not competent enough to figure out the issue and I had to have a real technician from another company figure out the problem. Their services manager is rude and did nothing but gaslight me and insult me during this entire ordeal. He kept telling me that there was nothing wrong with the unit and made rude comments about how I was complaining about the issue too much and was extremely passive-aggressive at every turn. He refused to replace the defective unit and not once did he ever produce a plan for a resolution, as his main goal was clearly to get me out of his hair as soon as possible. My wife and I spent the entire winter of 2023 in the cold with constant fluctuating indoor temperatures, while McHales continuously told us that there was nothing wrong with the heat pump. Stay far away from this untrustworthy, incompetent, con-man-filled company!

Had main drain replaced and hot water heater installed. Will water lines installed also. done in a orderly fashion and workers were very polite. Done in a week

Two days after McHales tighten leaky on off valve, on upstairs toilet this appeared below it. McHale's. Had a very odd response to it all.

Placed larger unit that we did not pick so close to powder room door you can only open door half way to get it, he did not care. If we got the unit that we agreed on it wouldn't be so giant in the space. Thermostat has been wacky since February. He told us needs to be replaced. Texted Anthony every week for over a month no response. We've been ghosted. Horrible experience basically our warranty is void bc we can't even get an answer from them.... Anthony you know who this is...if you'd like I can add screen shot of all the messages we've sent to you. We've been texting since February about our thermostat replacement. Don't reply with we can't verify this. And to call your office. You never answer or reply!! Check your texts or I can add pics to this review. Total BS.
