I can't say enough good things about this company. We've had a heck of a year; our heater broke in early spring - right during a cold snap, and they got a new one installed as quickly as possible. And now, in the middle of a heat wave, our air conditioner died, and they are bending over backwards to make sure we get a new one ASAP, even if it means them installing the thing in the middle of the summer. Our rep, Scott Fischer, even said he'd loan us a portable air conditioner so we don't melt before they can get the new air conditioner installed. $150 waste of money for diagnostic. When we called this morning to make an appointment we specifically asked if they work on the oil heaters in levittown knowing that its a niche thing. The woman on the phone assured us that they do. The first thing the hvac gentlemen said is "we don't really work on these oil heaters". When i said to him that we specifically asked the woman about it he told us "she's just dispatch". We were told that the soot needed to be cleaned(over $2700), they may need to remove the wall to do it which would cost more, and they don't replace the wall if they take it down. Then after all of that, they would be able to diagnose what is actually wrong with the heater, if its something more than a cleaning. If you live in Levittown, don't walk...run! You might as well throw your $150 in a hole and call someone else. Benjamin Franklin came out and hour later and fixed it for $417. read more

My A/C started acting weird Sunday. I called Dowd on Monday. I was scheduled for Tuesday. Dennis arrived promptly. I explained what was happening. We turned in the unit. He identified the issue immediately. Took pictures to show me what was wrong. He was able to fix my unit and test it and I am ready for the summer! read more

So I got a contract here a year ago. This will be my second year. In my opinion, contracts are not worth it. Just deal with the issue when it happens. Now you can say that my issues "happened" because of the age of the system or whatever BUT I had no issues prior to moving into this home. You could also look at the reviews for this facility and think Wow! Great place but remember a review is just a piece of the Pie. Had issues with my air conditioner leaking within 2 months of the gentleman coming here and MAINTAINING my air conditioning system. Then a slow leak occurred, which my daughter's ceiling literally in her closet fell in from water damage. Then about 6 weeks ago he came out to perform routine maintenance on my heating system. Was here about an hour. And used a cup to check the system for air. I remember it vividly. Because when I lived in the city we would bleed out radiators and that's what my husband used. Now I have no heat last night. So I call them. Leave a detailed message with the phone service, who messes up my # . No if I'm a ROUTINE CUSTOMER my # is in the system right? So I call back 2-3 hours later as I'm still waiting for the call back and he says to me I gave the service the wrong #. I did or they misconstrued it? Again who says that? He proceeds to tell me it's 10:00 and too late for a call even though I have no heat, he will come in the morning. So I have the service manager # call him ( who originally did the bleeding of my system a few weeks ago) and he says yes my man needs to get sleep, roads are iffy and they will come tomorrow. Well, that's ok for me I'm in my 50's but don't do that to a contracted elderly customer? Isn't that why your on call? Do you know how easy it is to get sick? Fine. Waited for 7am. Said I was first call at few minutes after 8. Doesn't introduce himself but I assume from the text that it's him. Fine. So he gets started and can't figure what is wrong. Calls the Mgr. Which is ok. So he comes up and I ask how's it going...."well your system doesn't work", like a smart...ok. Fine. If you need anything let me know. I try to keep an eye on them. See what they are doing. He empties a bucket of water into my sump pump -I don't have a sump pump! Moral of story , oh then I call Manager to tell him what happened and why he didn't run a hose to empty my line when he was here in September? (Says he did) In a cup , not with a hose or buckets. I have no basement windows that I'm open. So he did not properly bleed the system out for air conditioner as he only used a cup not a bucket a few months ago. So basically if the Manager would have done his job correctly I wouldn't be out 669.00 which I'm going to see as this again is going on with my Aunt and someone else I spoke too and why am I paying for your mistake? Back to me calling back the Manager so he says to me I'm in the car with my daughter, so don't you know? No actually I didn't don't what I say? Like really I'm going to say something inappropriate or curse? That's not my style. Absolutely just uneducated tradesman. Glad they all call each other. It's not like it used to be where everyone knows what they are doing. That is not the world in which we live in. I have been using Dowd for years and find their service to always remain top notch. I recently had the fall check up of my system ( yes I procrastinate) . Dimitri is the tech that came out, he answered my questions in a very professional manner. I was provided with a 3 page description of the work done - the various items that were checked. I especially like when you purchase their spring/ fall checkup, you receive 10% off all repairs, 24 hr emergency service, where you go to the head of the line and no overtime charges. This past year we had our heating unit, central air and hot water heater replaced with Dowd. They offer a credit card which has 0% interest, mine was 5 years! They were extremely careful removing our old units and installing our new units. The installer was so helpful and moved the location of the filter so we didn't have to build out our current wall since the area is small in our utility room. They come out and complete a free inspection the first year and offer a reasonable maintenance plan. The maintenance report was very thorough (even listing air quality report) and they provided me with a print out. I recommend them to my mother in law. She replaced her heater and was also very happy with the service they provided. Great location company! read more

Where to start...let's start with the 3 hour maintenance visit I endured last week. Well, the last thing you want to do is clean your carpet after an air conditioning check up appointment, but that is exactly what we had to do after the kid they sent tracked mud through the house after spraying out the two outdoor units forever (something that has never had to be done in the prior 8 years I've been dealing with this firm). Let's see, what else - oh, well clearly he can't even roll a hose back the way he found it, moved our storage box onto our shrubbery and left it there, and then didn't even put the AC disconnect back in operational mode...forget off or on, he just yanked it and left it sitting atop the box. Fast forward a week...this morning I get an email from the owner Joe Dowd that he doesn't want to do business with me because I questioned an 88.7% increase to the labor cost on replacing an under warranty evaporator coil. I was emailing with someone (no signatures given) in the Dowd office yesterday to confirm an appointment for the repair and simply asked if "an increase in labor cost" was the extent of the explanation on the increase from 2016 when I did this last time with Dowd...on a unit they recommended and sold me 8 years ago, by the way. I went on to say that I haven't seen those kinds of increases in my salary in the past 5 years and that Dowd must be good to their employees if labor is up that much. That simple. Joe (and whoever else is behind the emails from the office) takes offense to it and he writes me to tell me to find another firm to do the work as I was not being collaborative so he didn't want to work with me. So I called, cuz ya know things can be taken out of context in emails. He went on to tell me how everything has gone up in price and he was tired of customers questioning him...and then started to quote the increases in lumber and chicken wings...I didn't ask him to build me anything, or to go to lunch...just to replace the coils on units he sold me, and to explain how it had gone up that much in such a short period of time. Inflation be damned, I think anyone seeing those kinds of increases is going to ask about it if they are an informed consumer. But he called my email questions the equivalent of "throwing rocks at his front door". So if you are a Dowd customer, don't question price - he'll just send you packing. And don't expect him to stand behind the systems he sells you, "call the manufacturer, I don't make them" he said. So he WILL take his profit on selling you a system, and he WILL make money replacing under warranty parts, but don't ask for reasonable explanations on price or sharing in the cost pain of fixing AC units that he sold you (talk about collaboration). Beware existing and potential Dowd customers, Joe's on the warpath!!! So the next time someone asks me for an AC recommendation, or I see one of those Dowd banners at the little league fields, I'll just chuckle and say, "have I got a story for you..." I reached out to this company for an estimate for duct work repair on a rental property of mine and instead was told that he is choosing not to do the work because the rental property was in Kensington and there are quote "too many junkies". Very unprofessional. If your company claims to service the Philadelphia area then the company should stand by that. Bad for business and bad attitude. Would not recommend! read more

Dowd came out promptly during a very cold and, what I'm sure was a busy, winter storm. My 25 yr old heater died and they had a new one installed within days. I have used them for various services in the past and have always been more than satisfied. The guys were fast, personable, efficient, and very knowledgeable. Replacing your HVAC system can be a pretty painful process. I am so glad I was referred to DOWD! They make the whole process a breeze. They are very thorough, very responsive, they answer all the questions you have. When Scott came out for an estimate he was very professional, explained everything in detail, he even had a printer in his van to print out estimates. He showed us a few units to choose from. Rachid and Ismail were the ones installing the unit and they were great! Scott came out two days after to check if everything was working fine. Dianna and Amanda from the office called a few times throughout the whole process to follow up and see if I had any questions. They take checks, credit cards and they also offer financing. Had a problem with my heat pump. The guy came right on time- first pleasant surprise. He listened to my explanation without interrupting and eye-rolling. He discovered what is wrong quite quickly without taking breaks to chat with god know who in his car - another pleasant surprise given my previous experience. He did not have the part (breaker). I said to myself- here we go. Sometimes contractors do this trick so they can come the next day and charge you double. I understand they cannot have everything with themselves, but sometimes it is way too suspicious.... Instead he installed a resettable breaker so he did not have to come again. Third surprise. It was not exactly cheap, but was very reasonable. This was again Scott- the person referred in the other review. I highly recommend Dowd (especially Scott). read more

I purchased a Trane Air Conditioner 2 years ago from Dowd Heating and Air Conditioning. I had priced many companies, visited many websites and read many reviews. They were very competitive, and explained the difference in the plans and units and energy efficiency much more than the other companies. I purchased the unit from them and was/am extremely satisfied. The unit has saved us a lot of money on our Electric Bill and this really helps the budget. They are professional and courteous and their service is EXCELLENT. My air conditioner stopped working last night (due to my not placing my heater door on properly when I changed the filter). I realized this at 1:30pm last night. I called their answering service and this morning I heard from Joe Dowd himself and he came over as soon as I got home today. What incredible service! Dowd provided the worst experience we have ever had with a heating and air conditioning company. We have two air conditioner units. One was working fine and the other one was not. Dowd came and replaced the one that was working and left the broken one in place. When I notified Joe Dowd, the owner, of his mistake, he immediately blamed me. I was only asking him to come out to the house and see what had happened. He then said he would come and he never did after repeated requests. Now we are back where we started with one broken A/C and one working A/C unit, but he had the nerve to insist on keeping our payment. We have many properties and work with many HVAC companies. They did a good job installing the Trane unit about 3 years ago. recently when I called them with problem with AC, Scott came out and diagnosed the motherboard and switch defect quickly and efficiently and fixed at reasonable cost and explained the whole situation thoroughly.. Recently my pilot light mechanism went bad. Scott came out and immediately identified it. Although he didn't have the replacement part with him he took the initiative to double check the availability and then go back to the office and get the part, instead of scheduling another service call, which is what many other repairman would do. He was courteous and pleasant and very thorough. i recommend Dowd's because of employee like Scott. read more

Dowd HVAC is the most reputable contractor my wife and I have ever hired. In 2007 we hired Dowd HVAC to install a tankless hot water heater because we wanted to enjoy the peace of mind of knowing we would never be left in the cold because of all of the showers in the morning. What a relief it has been over the years to have that peace of mind but what we never imagined was the costs savings attached to this install. Immediately our energy bills decreased and the unit has already paid for itself in just a few short years. Just recently, in 2011 we asked Dowd HVAC to install a new heater and air conditioner. Dowd HVAC recommended we also spring for a humidifier and an air purifier and boy are we glad we did. Our kids have allergies and this new system has eliminated their suffering and we are so grateful for that advice. Since we have contracted Dowd I have referred him to 4 of our neighbors and they received the same level of professionlism as I did.
