Had a recent wonderful experience with Universal heating and air. We found them after almost being taken by a ride for the cost of entirely new air conditioning unit by Len the Plumber Heating and Air. Instead of being conned we called Tom at Universal. He was absolutely wonderful. Came out the next day after our air conditioner stopped running. He easily diagnosed the problem as a bad motor and tried to call his supplier on the spot because if he could get the motor same day he would install it. He wasn't able to get it that day but went on to order it for us. Didn't even charge for the initial visit. He quoted us $1600 for the motor and the install. I put the price here because the first HVAC company we called tried to tell us the motor would cost $3000 and wouldn't guarantee a fix and tried to tell us it was not cost effective to even put one in. When the motor came in Tom quickly called us and returned to install it. He charged the exact $1600 he quoted. Not a penny more. He was pleasant to work with and knowledge. As of now the air conditioner is running great and the blower motor comes with a one year warranty. I will be using his services in the future and hope others will too. read more

Tom and I chatted over Yelp, and he told me that he was unavailable for the 3 days I had selected. I asked him if he could do another day, and he gave me a call. Over the phone, he ran me through a couple of troubleshooting questions - Model of the unit, if there was ice on the line, if it was blowing hot air up top, temperature readings indoor over time compared to the weather. We talked for a good 5-10 mins, and he determined that he'd have to come out to take a look. He arrived on time, diagnosed the issue within 10 minutes, fixed it within 3 minutes, and gave us some yearly maintenance tips to keep things running smooth in the future. Namely power washing your unit on a yearly basis to keep things inside clean and air flow optimal. Tom is fantastic, and so is Scott. Tom came out rather late one night after I called about our air conditioner which died on us in mid-July. Did an initial assessment, then came back the next day to reassess it before giving me a final estimate and contract to sign. Took a week to get the parts in to replace the 20 y/o stuff, and get the job done, but in the end, it's working like a charm, is much quieter than the old system, and does not work as hard as the old one did to rake the humidity out of the air. My very old heating system went kaput a week before Christmas and with temps about to plummet to single digits. I called Universal to repair my air conditioner and to my surprise he said he would be here later this afternoon. Tom called later on in the day and said he would be here in 35 to 40 minutes. He arrived promptly. Tom replaced the capacitor, and the unit runs just fine. The cost was very, very reasonable, since I believed it would be much higher than $199.00. Before leaving, Tom gave me a company sticker if I wanted to put it on the unit, which I did immediately. I will definitely call Tom again if I have any problems with my heat or air. I called another company on 10/6/22 and made an appointment for 10/11/22. He said to expect him between 9:00 am & 12:00 pm. He did not show up and did not call. My AC unit was broken and within an hour of reaching out for a quote, Tom responded.
