The good: Reasonable prices, friendly technicians, were able to be booked on short notice…read more The bad: I caught a mistake myself that would have caused some drywall damage if I didn't convince/ show them before the left. In summary, my laundry room was recently painted and the dryer vent ducting came out of the back of the machine. I tried to fix it myself but when I pushed the machine back against the wall the duct kept coming off. Unfortunately I found this out by leaking a whole dryer load worth of hot air into my house (fortunately we have an electric dryer so it wasn't bad fumes). Anyways, I yelped around to find a good local company, and strawberry appliance was able to make it out within a few hours. The guys were friendly, replaced the duct from the wall to the machine with a more pliable one so that would stop coming undone, and all this went well. The issue was the connection on the opposite side of the wall had come undone from the work they did, so essentially all the hot air wouldn't have ducted directly outside. I'm sure this would have caused some moisture issues, and I would have expected them to check that before they wrapped up, but they appreciated me catching it and were able to quickly and easily fix it. Overall I would use them again, but would keep an eye out as they haven't fully gotten my trust yet due to the one mistake on the one time they came out.

He even told me the trick to getting it mounted correctly again since it's magnetic and must be a specific distance from the flywheel. We were about to replace the blower motor, which would have been very costly, but instead, the service tech (Sammy), removed and cleaned it. When the motor was reinstalled it was no longer the noisy beast that it had previously been. A big win for us! Our issue was resolved, and we didn't have to buy a new motor. This is an unbiased review of my recent experiences at Alvin Small Engine Repair- Please read…read morethoroughly if you are considering using their services! (Read the conclusion if you just want the summary). -WHAT I BROUGHT THEM - An Echo Blower & Stihl Weedeater - both of which needed a carb clean but otherwise worked fine. -WHAT I LEFT WITH - An Echo Blower that no longer works. IT CAUGHT ON FIRE in my garage after their second attempt to fix (on a cold start). Note* I brought it to them a total of FOUR TIMES to fix (all still under their warranty). A Stihl Weedeater that is in worse condition than when it was dropped off. -THEIR RESOLUTION- (Echo Blower) offered to keep my old blower and wanted to give me some off brand used blower in the back.. they then offered me a refund of $62 and some change and still wanted to keep my blower. I left with the $62 refund and my original blower that no longer works. (Stihl Weed-eater)- offered to refund me $62 (cost of weed-eater repairs) and keep my weed-eater.. umm.. no thanks, it cost over $200 new and it just needs a carb clean.. why would I give it to you?! CONCLUSION.. it cost me 5 trips to Alvin Small Engine Repair, $62 to repair a weed-eater that is now in worse condition than when I originally dropped it off, and the cost of a new blower..Use your best judgement before letting these guys work on your equipment.
