Realizing we would need onsite support, Jorge asked for my address and was onsite within 30 minutes. I didn't realize he brought his family along who patiently waited in his service truck. Aside from his responsiveness, I appreciated Jorge's honesty regarding next steps. Within an hour he installed refrigerant and replaced a circuit. In addition, he peeked into the attic and suggested that we address missing insulation in certain spots. And if the home continued to warm up, he recommended increasing the AC unit tonnage as a last resort. This went on for a long time, I really wanted my microwave fixed, so I was very patience. Until finally I ask for my refund, he gave me some story about the manufacturer not refunding him the funds that originally zelled him. He told it would take 14 business days to refund him and he would refund me. Long story short, he refunded me 400.00 dollars, the rest he said would refund me in 2 weeks, I guess if I don't reach out to him he will never refund me. I just said to him don't bother just keep the rest of the money. People be careful doing business with this guy.

Akai inspected the entire unit and indicated the issue was the defroster in the freezer wasn't working and needed to be replaced. He quoted me what I thought was a very fair price but before I could say "Shut up and take my money!" he added that when he had unplugged the unit & plugged it back in, when starting up again the compressor sounded a bit suspicious. Thus he indicated I could go ahead and pay him to install a new defroster in the freezer, but it is only a matter of time before the compressor craps out and then replacing it would be over $1,000 and not worth it. So get this....he proposes that I defrost it the old school way by unplugging it, opening both the freezer & fridge doors, placing towels in front of the unit, and allowing all of the ice to melt and then just mop up all the water with towels and my wet vac and that would solve the problem for now. And in a few months when the issue occurs again I can just repeat the old school defrosting method until the compressor finally goes kaput, and then get a brand new refrigerator. Sure enough, I proceeded to do exactly what he recommended and lo and behold the fridge & freezer started working properly again. And I am all too happy to repeat every few months to squeeze every last bit of life from this old fridge until I have to get a new one. Akai could have very easily kept quiet about the compressor sounding sketchy and that it could fail in 3 weeks, 3 months, or 3 years and gotten a nice service order for replacing the defroster since he had already devoted the valuable time & effort to come to my house. However, he instead chose to be completely honest and forthcoming which is not as common as it should be and is very appreciated. I have saved his contact info and the next time I have any issues with any appliances he will be the technician I call. Knowledge and experience is great and there are a lot of qualified & knowledgeable appliance repair companies out there. However, also possessing honesty and integrity is why I strongly recommend Akai for any appliance repair issues.

I did a little research, and found out the part he used, (a $19 part I payed $60 for) is a band aid at best, and it's used to get some more life out of the fridge. I'm fine with that, except I was not notified of this by the mechanic at all, and the full ticket was $170 ($60 for the part, 69 for the call out fee, and 30 bucks for the labor plus taxes). When I called them, I was told they would come back out, but they would charge me another call out fee if it wasn't the part that failed. The owner was rude and condescending, and essentially said there was nothing she could do to help me. I will never call them out again.

Shoppers that have done their price comparisons on appliances of interest can make a good deal at Appliance Outlet. Just know their low overhead doesn't automatically translate to the lowest price. While the sales department is capable customer service after the sale is deplorable. Customer requests or needs are met with stalls, delays, dodging responsibility to resolve the issue, finally assigning blame, and all the above tactics are laced together with a myriad of excuses. Only through a great deal of perseverance on a customer's part will a resolution be met.
