I read the reviews and then called the shop. John was straight up and to the point after explaining what my mower was doing. I knew getting the warranty work done probably was a stretch since the mower wasn't stored for the winter correctly. John said he could have it done by the end of the day I said that would be great I came from Texas City and just give me enough time to get here before you close. We chatted a little bit more and John asked if I had time to wait he would get it done for me. I waited even got to watch as he worked on the mower! I drove by two other shops in Dickinson that were closer but I will return here for any of my small equipment if John can do the work! read more

I went to The Mower Shop for a new ignition switch for my lawnmower. It's a part only carried by specialty shops and not available at the big box stores. After John saw the part, he told me exactly how to fix it and not buy a new one. He even told me the trick to getting it mounted correctly again since it's magnetic and must be a specific distance from the flywheel. I told him thanks so much and told him I'd be back to buy the new one if I couldn't fix my current one. Well, I fixed it so I didn't need to go back. John provided EXCELLENT customer service even though I didn't spend a dime. I can promise him this...when I do need to buy something, I'll come back to his shop and buy it. Thanks, John. I want to send a shout out to John, the owner of this business. I brought in a lawnmower that wouldn't start. He was very quick in being able to diagnose the problem and was very knowledgeable about these items in general.Unfortunately for me, the lawn mower was dead and no longer worth the repair cost. However, he was able to sell me another lawn more that was refurbished and was at less cost than the one I had brought in. It also includes a warranty. I appreciated his efficiency, knowledge and candor. I wouldn't hesitate to bring any other equipment to him to repair. Also, I know that there have been other negative reviews. However, I can honestly say that that was NOT my experience. I am recommending that you judge for yourself and give him an opportunity to earn your business. He definitely has earned mine. read more

I was hesitant to stop in given the previous reviews. I'm glad I did as I had a very good experience here. It's a good old fashioned honest mom and pop shop. I brought in a weed eater that wasn't running. I paid my deposit and waited for the diagnosis. He called when he said he would and was honest and upfront. Basically I messed up and put the wrong gas in it so it was beyond repair. He was very pleasant and easy to talk to. He never tried to sell me anything or pressure me into anything. We had a good laugh about my mistake when I went to pick jt up. I'll definitely be back for any future needs. read more

If you are looking for someone to tell you they can fix it when they can't or who will try to sell you something that you don't want, then don't go here. John will tell you his honest assessment, not necessarily what you want to hear. Today he told me that it would cost me more to get the weedwacker fixed then it would take to buy a new one. And since they did not sell exactly what I was looking for, he went online to another store and help me find what I needed there. John, the owner and chief mechanic is a little bit of a curmudgeon. BUT I have been taking my stuff to be repaired since the early 90's. He knows his stuff and when he says something is not reparable I believe him. I read the other reviews and have never had the problems they describe. The products he sells, the TORO's, Echo's etc are quality units. RYOBI and a number of the big box store brands don't seem to last more that a couple of seasons. I have bought rebuilt TORO's from him and used them for YEARS. Maybe not a 5 star guy but if you need the work done and your feelings are not too sensitive then go see him. read more

DO NOT USE THIS SHOP! John was rough around the edges but seemed okay at first. Took our weed whacker to diagnose the ENGINE problem. Was told it was not covered by warranty. Fine, we'll take it up with Ryobi. Then he gave us our weed whacker back with an older head and when my husband told him he accused us of lying and acted like we were trying to pull one on him. When my husband would not back down he called the guy from the back. My husband went to the back and came back with our orginal, newer, head. This man tried to steal from us and from what I have seen from the other reviews, this is not the first time. read more

I would recommend finding another shop even if you have to drive across town. Paid $80 for a repair only to have it doing to same thing two days later. Then someone wants to get upset with me and tell me how to fix the issue. If I knew how to fix or even wanted to fix it myself, I would not of paid you $80 and have to drive the broken equipment full of gas in my $65k car. Bad work horrible attitude! read more

Do NOT use these people. John is a creep that yells at customers..hands down the WORST customer service I've ever experienced. Dropped off a weedeater to have warranty work done only to get a call when they were done to say we owed them $51 since the repair wasn't covered...no call to confirm we wanted to repair or get approval to repair. When I went to pick it up, I told John I felt like that was poor customer service.. that I most likely would have been okay with the repair if they'd just asked. Long story short he said he already was treated poorly for no reason (doubtful..if he treats all customers how he treated me) then REFUSED to get my property unless I was nice to him. Finally went to get it when I threatened to get police involved for theft. Then when he returned, he told the other employee to not bother being nice to me. At that point I threatened to start recording him if he wanted to keep it up and not walk away. He then yelled just no charge. Judy ended up giving me the weedeater at no cost. I won't EVER return and I'd recommend anyone else not to if they don't want to deal with John trying to rip you off, then get in a yelling match just to get your property back. Gotta wonder if John would have been that abusive to a man... Save yourself the trouble. Stay away from this business. read more

I would give this guy less then one star if I could. Brought my mower in and he had it about 2 and a half months just for the simple job of repairing the self propelled drive. Was extremely rude on the phone with me to the point where we were both basically yelling at each other. When I finally got the mower back the charge was reasonable a bit over 100 bucks, but I get it home and it wouldn't start. He had left the old fuel in the mower and it had gunked up the carb. I went and bought a sparkplug and some mechanic in a bottle and my wife and I finally got it going again without having to bring it back to another shop....If we hadn't that could have cost us even more money due to his incompetence. When I picked the mower up he wouldn't even get up to help us at first he was eating a steak lunch at like 3pm. I don't know how he can afford steak, being as he's so rude and incompetent with all his customers. When you go into the shop it's like a ghost town....Never anybody in there and now I know why. DO NOT USE THIS SHOP!....If we hadn't had another lawnmower as a backup, I'd have had to just go buy another one due to the amount of time he had mine in his shop collecting dust. read more

These people are crooks. Took my trimmer in for easy repair and 5 weeks later came in to pick it up...but it was not the one I dropped off but some old, trashed unit. Mine was less than 1 year old with a different head. They said I loaned it to someone who changed the head and there was no way for them to make the mistake. I took the other unit anyway since it was a losing battle, after spending $90 for that repair-figured it better to have something, and could never get it to start. A few months prior took them a chainsaw to repair which worked about 10 minutes after I got it home and in use. BEWARE. SCREW ME ONCE, SHAME ON YOU, TWICE, SHAME ON ME. These people are the worst and I have no idea how they stay in business. read more
