For anyone reading this review, I would urge you to take a look at all the 1 one star reviews. The response to each one by McKinney is identical and there is obviously no intention to try and correct the situation by McKinney.
I have recently purchased a home in North Georgia. The home has a 10yr old unit that is still working that is servicing the main floor, but nothing servicing the finished basement. The duct work in the home was originally ran for a central heating system - one that was removed and a traditional HVAC was put in its place. Very little of the duct work is insulated, so ideally it would need to be insulated or just replaced entirely.
After getting several quotes from HVAC companies in the area, I decided to give McKinney my business. Their quote was the cheapest especially when looking at the net cost which would include the rebates offered by the TVA and EnergyStar.
I had some questions on the quote, so I tried to make contact with Gary Miller, the president and owner of McKinney. First of all, he is extremely hard to get on the phone. He also made me feel a bit like I was bothering him trying to understand the options provided. None of the units he spec'd out had gas furnaces, which I wanted so I requested that he put together a 2nd quote just so I could see what the dual fuel systems would run me. These would have been more expensive than what was originally quoted and made McKinney more money. Unfortunately, Gary never sent these over. I also noticed that some of the options on his original quote had doubled the TVA tax credit, which was not accurate. I asked him to correct that as well. He promised he would do it, but never did. Weeks went by. I tried calling and emailing SEVERAL times but at this point he wasn't calling or emailing me back. So much time passed that the contractor (and his subs) I hired to do renovations are now having to stop their work - since the HVAC duct work that McKinney would do in their quote was not completed. I am now having to scramble to find an alternate company to use so that the guys I hired to do other work can complete things like drywall and tile in areas where duct work and registers needed to be changed.
Long story short, I never write negative reviews and I am very frustrated to be put in this position. Basically Gary does not keep his word. He promised he would get me an updated quote I HAVE THIS IN WRITING on email but he just ghosted me for several weeks. I am a man of my word, and told Gary I would be using his company. All I wanted to see was what the cost differences were if we went with some different configurations. Instead of being honest and telling me he didn't plan to provide those quotes, he left me hanging and now I'm in a bad spot.
For anyone reading this review at McKinney, my contractor who is a custom home builder watched me go through this ordeal and so did his subs. You're only as good as your word.
Perhaps I should have just agreed to 1 of the 4 system configurations I was provided and not tried to explore what some different configurations would have cost? I am not sure. But what I will say is the customer experience (particularly communication) is so terrible with this company I see this outcome as a blessing in disguise, because if I had any problems with the units after install I would be extremely frustrated having to deal with this company the way that they operate. Which is basically a joke in terms of communicativeness and also KEEPING YOUR WORD. When you say you're going do something, do it. And if you don't plan to do it, SAY THAT so the customer can find an alternative and not be left out in the cold wondering if they are ever going to hear back after weeks of waiting. read more
