Nice people and a great option to having to drive to total wine or Specs if you live in east McKinney. I stopped by there today not realizing that they close at 7:00 pm. I got there at 7:07 pm and the doors were locked and they had customers inside. The employees saw me outside but ignored me which is expected I guess. My point is most liquor stores are open until 9:00 pm so make sure you are aware that they close at 7:00 pm. I have loved having this option but I'll never go back. read more

This is a very nice wine shop with fair prices and a good selection of wines. The owner is very knowledgeable, friendly, and willing to talk about wine and help you make your selections. Another great thing about the McKinney Wine Merchant is the 'Cab and Slab,' a three or six month subscription that gets you a good bottle of wine and a good cut of meat from Local Yokel butcher shop every month. Yelp led me here as this was closest to where I was staying during my first trip to Texas and at first I felt panicked - what do u mean there's no vodka in McKinney?!? Yes, it's a "dry" town. But my shock and panic quickly subsided as I have a great love for wine too. There were some great choices at a wide array of prices. Even if you don't know wine, you'll get something good out of coming here. The staff was super helpful, kind and knowledgable. I will definitely come back my next trip out there just to support the shop. It's adorable. read more

As a resident of San Francisco I can tell you the competition among wine merchants is pretty intense. I was visiting family in McKinney and needed some special wine to give as a gift. I was told by some friends that I must stop here. Well, I must say. McKinney Wine Merchant competes with any place I've frequented in SF. Why? The selection and knowledgable staff. Top rate. Great small shop with great wines! I loved getting to swing in here and grab a bottle of wine before heading to Local Yocal for dinner. Andy, the owner, was helpful and courteous as he showed us the various wines he had available. Good prices too for this little shop right off the square. Andy, the owner, used to represent California wines all over the country. Lucky for us, he's decided to set up shop in downtown McKinney. He can take your favorite flavors, and match you up with a good bottle, no matter your price point. He runs the gamet from 8 dollar bottles up to some very, very fine reds. He's got a great 'Top 10' shelf, that highlights what his biggest seller have been over the last week, and its a great way to find something new to try. I love that he also has a small selection of sake and port. And it helps save the evening if you forgot to bring a bottle of wine to the French, BYOB restaurant across the street, Gregory's Bistro. read more

My favorite destination is the Northern California wine country, however, I only get to go every year or two. One of the best things is discovering great wineries based upon the advice of other wineries. The McKinney Wine Merchant has become my local source for finding great wineries. The firs time I went in, the owner Andy asked what I liked and when I gave him a description, he was immediately able to recommend several brands in different price points. Everything I have bought from him is a winner. Probably the most impressive thing about the store is that the only sell quality wine. Andy has told me on more than one occasion he had to stop carrying a brand because the new release didn't measure up. In a world where wine stores show a wine review for a 2009 release and then have a 2011 release on the shelves, that makes me trust the McKinney Wine Merchant with my wine dollars. read more

After placing my online order (the website is great btw - made it easy to browse through selections) I called the shop, wanting to add a name to pick-up the purchase. Not only was Andy friendly, but was great in explaining when the bottle would be available and the store hours for pick-up. For a friendly wine tasting from a knowledgable insider, make a point to get to McKinney Wine Merchant. The owner introduced me to a pinot grigio to rival Santa Margherita for less than half the price (it's made by Cavit, pinot fans, go ask him for it!) and gave me plenty of other options. It's a fantastic fine wine and boutique wine store, and thrilled we just happened in on it after lunch at Sugar Bacon.
