Rocky was kind, patient, and professional in every way to provide the best surfing experience for my nephew. Tyler is unable to speak, and can only minimally process words with his hearing. Rocky was fantastic to work with from start to finish. My family and I vacationed at Huntington Beach and my kids were set on learning to surf. We were so fortunate to be directed to Rocky and his surfing school. He was very professional on the phone and really demonstrated his passion for helping my kids and I learn to surf with a very reasonable fee. We arrived for our lessons and Rocky greeted us and was very friendly and excited to get us out on the waves. He had wetsuits ready for us and we headed down to the beach for our initial lessons about paddling, getting up on the board, safety and how to read the surf. He was clearly very knowledgeable and very concerned about our safety in the water. Once we had spent some time learning the ropes, Rocky took my kids and I out one at a time one on one. He was great at helping us all find the right waves, get into the correct position and catch the wave. We had such a great time and I am happy to say that in just an hour and a half lesson, all three kids and myself were successful in getting up on the board and riding some waves! My kids all agreed that this lesson was by far the highlight of our weeklong vacation at Huntington Beach (this include trips to Disney). If you are in town and are looking to learn how to surf, I cannot recommend Rocky enough. When we return next summer for our vacation we will definitely be surfing with Rocky again. Rocky is an awesome surf instructor! Although there were less than ideal surf conditions on the day I wanted to go out, he was able to find a location that suited my skill, and even offered to pick me up if I needed a ride. He took the time to understand my experience and capabilities as a surfer, as well as my goals and ambitions. His personal surf lesson was catered perfectly to not only my current ability so that I was able to have fun and catch some waves, but also positioned me to continue growing and learning on my own. He spent generous time and effort to explain how to read waves so that I would be able to understand the conditions and different breaks on my own in the future. His lesson was encompassing, and enjoyable. He taught purely for the sake of passing on his thorough knowledge on to me, in hopes I would be able to use it to continue teaching others. During the lesson, he ensured my safety was paramount, and that I would be able to use what he taught me to continue advancing as a surfer. Above all, in the short time I got to know him I learned he was a cool guy and a great person. Rocky even offered to remain in touch, and I look forward to the next opportunity I have to get another epic lesson from him. Beyond his prowess as an instructor and surfer, he has extensive knowledge as a board shaper and designer, and I look forward to consulting him when I am ready to purchase a new surfboard. Rocky is the man and a good friend to all. I cannot put high enough praise for him into this review; you will have to get a lesson for yourself to truly understand how amazing of an experience it is. read more
