The name says it all! It is a blessing to have Off the Hook Kiteboarding (OTH) available in SoCal. Jesse and his team are VERY professional, patient, knowledgeable and their concentration on safety is unmatched. I have experimented with a couple of other kiteboarding schools and OTH made me feel comfortable, safe, and part of their team. I highly recommend OTH if you are researching places to learn to kitesurf or if you want to excel in your skill levels. Bonus: OTH offers kiteboarding trip packages during Belmont Shores' offseason (Nov-March). Best kiteboarding instructors, hands down! Each and every instructor knows exactly what they're doing. If you truly want to learn to kite, hit these guys up! I am very satisfied with taking 7-8 lessons with the off the hook instructors to learn all the basics and safety procedures. They are all seasoned instructors who keep you calm when you're out on the water using the radio head set and are excellent coaches. Carter, Jessie, Dane and Al are amazing! Please keep in mind, especially for those just looking to getting into the sport as I have this past year, that lessons are dependent on wind conditions. Did a ton of research on here reading reviews before getting private lessons for my boyfriend and me, and Jesse and crew did not disappoint! We did a two day private - Jesse was super friendly, gentle, positive, and knowledgeable the entire time. He emphasized safety and gave us the tools to navigate different scenarios once we got in the water, and the whole thing was an incredible time. They also followed COVID guidelines which ensures we can all keep having fun. I've been kiteboarding for 16 years and decided that I want to learn how to ride the hydrofoil board. After talking with Jesse at OTH, I decided to take a lesson. From the start, the guys at OTH are super easy to talk to and are obviously very passionate about kiteboarding. If done incorrectly, kiteboarding can be dangerous. It was nice to see that my safety and the safety of others is a priority for them. My instructor was Jesse. We started right on time. Having Jesse talk to me via a helmet radio, made all the difference! He was able to talk me through the lesson while I was on the water and give me immediate feedback! I never felt alone, and whenever I came back to shore, he was right there to help grab the equipment. Jesse was just as excited as I was whenever I made progress on the hydrofoil. I was up and riding the hydrofoil within the hour! I was in the market to buy a new kiteboard, and Rob and Jesse at OTH were very accommodating. I had a chance to demo different boards and kites, and when I finally decided on one, they gave me a competitive price. I highly recommend Off The Hook for any of your kiteboarding needs. I had been meaning to learn how to kiteboard for more than a year, and I finally did some research and decided to give OTH a chance. I got the 2-lesson package, 2hrs each ($350) with 1 on 1 instruction. By the end of it I was up on the board in the water. I had some stunt-kiting knowledge before getting there, but my instructor, Jesse, was the reason I was successful. I'm really happy I went with personal instruction rather than group instruction because you get immediate feedback on what you're doing (right or wrong). I wish more people had rated Off the Hook on Yelp because I would've taken the class sooner... I cannot overstate the quality of the instruction. Jesse was professional and receptive. He was focused on practical learning while keeping safety at the forefront of what we were doing. I will probably go back to him for more lessons once I have done some more practicing on my own. Jesse took my lesson same day and worked with me on scheduling the second lesson around my schedule. He has also been helping me find my own equipment, which is massively helpful as the equipment is a bit daunting when you're starting out. Honestly, the worst part of the experience was paying for it. These lessons weren't cheap, but I felt that I got exactly what I paid for, and a little more than I expected. If you view it as an investment in yourself to learn something new, its easy to justify. You need someone who knows how to teach just as much as you need someone who knows what they're doing. Off the Hook delivered on both, in my case. If you want to get into this sport, this is a great way to do it. For me, the money was well spent. read more

this review is a little overdue... I was referred to Off the Hook by a friend of mine and I must say I couldn't imagine learning kiteboarding without professional instructions. As an avid wakeboarder and snowboarder who is pretty much self taught Im not used to paying for lessons. Jessie and Al worked with me as well as a third instructor who's name I can't remember at the moment (forgive me) and all of them were great instructors. They knew what they were doing, were very knowledgable and above all love the sport of kiteboarding. I no longer am paying for lessons but I see them weekly down at Belmont and they still go out of there way to say hi, give me pointers and overall encouragement. This is the one sport I that I couldn't stress enough requires lessons! Don't be that person that makes other kiteboarders look bad by not knowing at all what you are doing.. Go talk to the guys at Off the Hook. I highly recommend them. read more

I chose OTH Kiteboarding because of their immediate professional customer service and I was only further impressed from there. Jesse is a superb instructor with an emphasis on teaching you correctly, efficiently, and safely. Rob got me hooked up with some quality gear at a fair price, what I wanted and needed, never felt pushed into anything. Everyone is extremely knowledgeable about riding, gear, and weather conditions and happy to share tips. The vibe under the OTH tent is a positive one.
