I first wrote a review for this practice ten years ago--and here I am a decade later, still a patient. That alone says a lot. There are plenty of dentists out there, but it's incredibly hard to find one who truly treats you--and your kids--like family. This practice does exactly that. Both of our kids feel comfortable coming here, which speaks volumes. The hygienists we see regularly are top-notch--professional, friendly, and consistently thorough. The office itself is immaculate, and the little touches (like free drinks in the waiting room) make every visit that much easier. It is with great sadness that I have learned I 'do not fit their profile.'.. Despite having a great insurance, despite being flexible with them changing my appointment very last minute, they refused to change my fillings because I think it was not lucrative enough.. Great hygienist, terrible admin and I never got to know the famous dentists.. Super disrespectful, not professional. Asked to change the appointment time, I could not make it earlier and then cancelled it saying there was an emergency the very last minute. Then re-sheduled only to completely drop the whole thing... You got to respect your patients' time before asking any... And also refusing treatment is not a type of behavoiur which Hypocrates would be proud of... Anyhow, I am not interested to come back again. Once again, thanks for the hygienist. Other than that not a professional service at all... Admin taking vengeance because I would not change the time of my appointment... Shame on you as an organisation and good luck to all your patients... read more

The owner of this "practice" did not tell the truth about many things that occurred during my appointment: 1. She stated that I gave the receptionist my card. I am retired. I have no card. 2. I made the appointment in October to be seen in March & the office still hadn't taken the time to verify my insurance. 3. The "probing depth" did not include sticking the upper portion of my gums on five occasions. This was obviously due to a lack of dexterity on the part of the hygienist. This has never happened to me in all of my years of going to the dentist. I was never offered any kind of topical solution before this procedure. 4. It is interesting how after the hygienist asked, "Can I you do me a favor?" at exactly 12 noon. I walked past her assigned spot a few minutes later after meeting with the business manager and there was no patient there. Obviously, she wanted to go on break. She cleaned exactly four teeth before doing so. 5. After you smeared the fluoride on my teeth, you gave me zero instructions concerning whether I could swallow the concoction or if I had wait before eating. For you to say you did is an outrageous lie. 6. It appears that you are emotionally immature and severely lacking in integrity. Again, it is my hope to save other individuals from the gross lack of professionalism that I experienced at your office. Due to these deficits in your character, I am certain that you will once again tell numerous falsehoods to cover yourself and preserve the business you have tried to create. Do better. read more

This "practice" has gone downhill. I strongly recommend that you seek a dentist from another practice. The dental hygienists and drs here will try to force procedures on you that you do not need. They do not follow HIPPA regulations and exhibit a lack of integrity in a myriad of ways. If they are able to refute what I write here, do not believe them. It is so unfortunate that I have to give this place a bad review, because I really, really wanted to give it a good one. However, after having a couple of teeth filled, I have to say that I strongly, STRONGLY recommend you find another dentist. I have had many cavities filled (groovy teeth!) but have never had as traumatizing an experience as this, and I really do mean traumatizing. I didn't want to return to a dentist for months after my experience. First, Dr. Arbabi used a Dryshield, which is this contraption that is kind of a cross between a rubber dam and a saliva ejector. Ostensibly, its a good idea, b/c it keeps the tooth area dry. But in reality, they used one that was far too big for my mouth, and caused me severe pain that lasted for weeks, no exaggeration. I asked her to remove it. She would, and then she'd put it back in, and there was no option for a filling without it, despite the severe pain and discomfort it caused. It was wildly unprofessional, and I still have jaw pain I never had before because of that Dryshield. Secondly, I take a medication that can thin the blood. It's a very common medicine. This is a medication that my doctor doesn't wish to replace because it helps me with a daily health issue with minimal side effects. I have been on this medication for about 4 years, and have had dental procedures, including fillings, during that time with other dentists. I've never had a dentist freak out as much as Dr. Arbabi. She was panicking so much at what she called "excessive bleeding" that the tech panicked too, and then I began to panic. I felt like I couldn't breathe. I know this sounds a bit silly--even writing it is kind of embarassing! But truly, she was acting like something horrible was happening. But at my old dentist just a year earlier when filling a cavity, he'd very calmly noted to the guy assisting him that I was "a bit of a bleeder" and then they did whatever they needed to do to make sure my filling didn't get contaminated. I didn't even pay much attention to it, and he's never brought it up since. Dr. Arbabi afterward told me to get my doctor to switch my medications--which, knowing nothing about my medical history, felt very unprofessional. I initially changed dentists b/c a family member knows one of the dentists here, but you can bet that after this I ran back to my old dentist, tail between my legs. Never switching again. Avoid this place at all costs! read more

Why -- the quality and level of service my family receives from her and her team. The care my family receives is top notch. They invest in the latest technology, the staff participates in ongoing training to stay on top of developments in their field, everyone is professional and friendly and they are always on time for my appointments. I have had 2 dental emergencies in the past 6 months. Dr. Chand took care of me right away and was able to get me in to see specialists within hours. Her professional expertise and her relationships with other professionals saved the day - both times. Full disclosure: we only visited once pre-pandemic as we had just switched providers. We'd been through a host of dentists that were unprofessional or harmful but at McLean Family Dentistry, Dr. Chand and her team were helpful and kind. The cleanings we got were non-eventful and easy. The office was clean, brightly lit, and high tech. Five stars, we planned on returning. However: during the pandemic with high risk folks in the household, we verified vaccination status and covid measures being taken in the office as we have a low risk tolerance about all this. Staff not only would not verify the office was vaccinated but also misquoted HIPAA to me. I had zero confidence in our returning, told the doctor as much and they were cordial about our leaving. We've found an office elsewhere more vocal about their team being fully vaccinated. Zero stars, will not return. I feel like I'm these pandemic times, people have to do better. read more

My almost 3yo son had his first dental visit here and it was a perfect experience! He felt so comfortable with the staff that he didn't even need me at all. He got a full tub of brown play dough from the treasure box and picked the tiger toothpaste. The only negative is having to tell him daily that we have to wait six months before coming back. He can't wait to brush his teeth and floss like they taught him. From the front desk staff to dentists And everyone in between I've never had a less than stellar experience with the people who work here. This dentistry office is NOT recommended. Avoid. They refused to do a regular annual check and cleaning and asked the patient for a deep cleaning over several consultations and limb the gums. When I mentioned I never need to limb the gum for cleaning only, the dentist said it was necessary but later on when she saw my hesitation, she said it was not needed as that would not hurt much. What kind of dental practice is that? But it then needed some pre-service cleaning before they could clean the teeth?!!! Essentially charging the patients more even with insurance ( consultation+ pre cleaning + subsequent VISITS (plural) for actual cleaning) . The same service can be done in other dentist offices in one goal with much less. I just felt very uncomfortable with this kind of practice. read more

Five stars should mean Excellent, because that is exactly what McLean Family Dentistry is. My friend suggested I try her dentist, Dr. Chand, because my previous dentist's recommendations for (what I think were) excessive amounts of dental work were a red flag to me. Joy, the dental hygienist was friendly, kind, and incredibly knowledgeable. She explained what she was doing during each step, which I appreciate very much. I did originally expect to see Dr. Chand but I think the schedule changed or I was scheduled on a day that she was in their other office. So at first, I was a bit nervous to see someone my friend did not go to. However, Dr. Arbabi did a beautiful job. She was incredibly thorough and patient. She took the time to explain her process and to address my many concerns. My previous dentist said I had a cavity and drilled until he hit my nerve, which has caused me not to be able to bite down when eating. Based on Dr. Arbabi's assessment, it is inflammation of the nerve (which I felt the former dentist hit when filling the cavity), so she explained what she will do and check for when refilling the cavity. She was quite thorough and careful with her assessment and how to move forward. I am definitely glad I came to McLean Family Dentistry. They do such a great job! read more

The staff at MFD is so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I started coming here about one month ago, after switching jobs and insurance providers. I was bummed because I had a treatment plan with my previous office and was on track to complete within one year. Nonetheless, I was very excited to find a new dentist close to my house. When I called, they were able to get me an appointment the next day! (score!) Went in for a cleaning on Halloween and the staff was dressed for the occasion! Even the doctor! Cleaning went well, and the added bonus is the TVs on the ceiling, (you know, for when your mouth is agape and head up in the air). I'm glad to have found a new dentist! I went to McLean Family Dentistry today for a biannual cleaning. Upon entering the office I was greeted by a friendly receptionist. Within two minutes I was taken to an exam room and introduced to Joy, the hygienist who would be picking at my plaque for the next half hour. Joy was very friendly and pleasant from the start. She was gentle on my gums and teeth. She was very knowledgeable along the way. She informed me of a 5-day whitening cycle they offered for $25. Something I would consider as coffee is my vice. She also told me about a laser treatment for cold sores. Useful for those unsightly sores. After my 20 minute cleaning, Dr. Assar came in to exam my mouth. She was also very kind and pleasant. I highly recommend McLean Family Dentistry. They are a team of professionals who treat their patients like "family." read more

I recently had a crown replaced on my front tooth by Dr. Arbabi. The original crown (done 20 years ago in another state) had become unsightly. Although it needed to be redone, I was extremely nervous about the process and I was skeptical that it could be replaced and matched to my other teeth. Dr. Arbabi and her team did a phenomenal job. She was an absolute perfectionist and was not satisfied until the color/shading and appearance was as close as possible to my other teeth. At the beginning of the process, I just asked her to make it look 75% better and I would be satisfied. She made it look 100% better. I can't say enough about Dr. Arbabi. I had my first visit to see Dr. Chand today, and I was incredibly impressed with the new technology she uses in her practice. It helps streamline the entire dental experience for busy professionals. I was able to complete all of my patient paperwork online before I arrived so I did not have to spend an extra 20 minutes doing that when I got there. Then in the back it was neat to be able to watch Sports Center (or whatever you want) on the tv on ceiling while getting my teeth clean. It certainly beats awkwardly laying there for 15-20 minutes with your mouth open, especially if you're someone that has anxiety visiting the dentist. I also appreciated how she was able to then pull up my x-rays and the pictures she took of my teeth on the other TV and actually point out areas I need to keep an eye on. This place is the dentist office 2.0 and the overall customer experience is awesome! I found Dr. Chand when I first moved to McLean. I was desperate to see any dentist at all due to a spontaneous toothache, and she fit me into her schedule after hearing how much pain I was in. Dr. Chand correctly suspected I needed a root canal, and referred me two extremely professional specialists to whom I would also give five stars. The thing that strikes me the most about this office (beyond how clean/spa-like it is) is that everyone there is cheerful and upbeat. I never feel like a burden, or like another appointment that they have to get through to finish their day. I carefully chose this practice after seeing the reviews but was very disappointed by the service. We recently moved to McLean and I took my five year old for a routine checkup. Once we arrived at the clinic, my son was being fussy as he associates dentists with pain... I guess somewhat understandable for a five year old who recently had a tooth extraction. Dr. Chand seemed very understanding, and suggested that we take him to a pediatric dentist that she recommended. The whole visit took approximately five minutes. She didn't even examine his teeth because she thought that he'll be better off with the pediatric dentist she recommended. All this was fine and pleasant... but I was surprised to see that the practice sent me a full bill for this visit. I called to complain, but was told that this is considered a full consultation. I paid $60 out of pocket after my insurance took care of the rest. Disappointed to run into a practice that appeared inconsiderate and unreasonable. read more

My crown popped out suddenly a few months ago at work on a Fri afternoon (when no dentist office is open). I googled MFD and when I dialed their off-hours number, I was expecting to get one of the staff. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised that Dr. Chand herself answered and helped me with some good advice. Although I went to my previous dentist to get the crown fixed, I was very impressed that Dr. Chand was available late on a Fri summer afternoon. So, I went for my first appt this morning for a checkup and the experience was excellent! The office is clean and modern. The staff are all very welcoming. The exam/checkup was efficient and smooth. Most importantly, Dr. Chand was very thorough and detailed in discussing my current dental issues and offered (in a no-pressure kind of way) possible solutions moving forward. You seriously could not go to a better dentist office. All-women run (from what I can tell), I will genuinely miss going there almost every week which I have done most of the last two months for serious dental work. I used to hate the dentist. I've always been very sensitive to pain (and scared to speak up), had very soft teeth, and a pretty small mouth. So it sucked. But at McLean Family Dentistry, you are actually part of their family. Everyone is so nice, patient, helpful, kind, understanding...I could go on. When I was trying to get all of my dental work scheduled in a short period of time and had a difficult work schedule, they were so accommodating.
