This is an overdue review. I had a pterygium removed (had it for years!) and Dr. McMann was great. His staff at Queen's West were awesome and always helpful. Jeannie, in particular, was great. Their ofice has a texting system as well so that's a great help. Dr. McMann is very patient and I never felt rushed. He explained things clearly and made sure that I understood! Terrible correspondence, lack of customer service and overall knowledge about their clinic.. I called to schedule a consult, then get a call they need to reschedule which is fine, but I had a really hard time trying to get a hold of someone when I called back to reschedule. The coordinator doesn't ever answer her phone. Then the day of my consult I got lost and couldn't find the place. I tried to call the office, but nobody answered, the scheduler I got ahold of didn't even know how to explain to get there. Finally got there and they quoted me 5k for both eyes (4K with Groupon) but there's $1,300 in after care fees! So I went somewhere else and saved $1k UPDATE: as far as your rude and unprofessional response, you quoted me $5,300 for total cost, the lady told me the extra $1,300 is for follow up appointments and aftercare eyedrops. I have worn glasses since I was 12 years old and started wearing contacts at 15 years old for nearsightedness. I am now 45. At around 42 years old or so I noticed it was uncomfortable to see things close up. From the consult visit- to the surgery day- to post op. I had the best experience. The whole staff is very friendly. Dr. McMann did an amazing job. The lasik procedure was very fast. I had no pain. Just a little discomfort once I got home. I took a 3 hr nap- when I woke up I was amazed at how great I felt. Definitely sleep right after the procedure and you will be just fine. I had mini mono vision lasik done. My right eye is to see far away and my left eye is to see close up. I feel like a whole new person with my new eyes. I even have a boost of confidence now! Bye bye to glasses and to contacts that would dry my eyes out. Now I wake up with perfect sight and I literally feel like I'm living in a dream. I got PRK surgery from there and everything was great from start to finish. I would definitely recommend them to others.

I had PRK and revision PRK performed by this office. One of my eyes still has horrible sight. I had to sit in the waiting room for over an hour past my appointment time for 90% of my visits over the last 3 years. One time I waited for 2.5 hours. I would have found another doctor much sooner but since the revision PRK was included in the cost of my initial procedure I stuck it out. I wish I hadn't now that the revision didn't work and my eyesight is a little worse than before I had it. I noticed towards the end of my time going to this office that there is a sign at the front desk explaining that there were sometimes wait times because the Dr is on call to help with emergencies. I find it strange that emergencies happened during 90% of my appointments. Even if that were the case (ha) why didn't the office notify me so I could arrive late and not sit there for hours? The office of my OBGYN, who sometimes had emergency deliveries, called me whenever something would be delayed. In actuality, it comes across that this office is just poorly run and schedules too many patients in a day. On 2-3 of my visits the doctors assistant who did my initial intake/screening would ask me the same question at least 3 times and would talk to me like I gave different answers than I did. I'm not sure if she wasn't paying attention because she didn't care or had a medical issue with attention. I'm not trying to be rude but it was very confusing, happened more than once, and made me feel like she wasn't listening / didn't care. I would not recommend this place. read more

It's now been over a year since I had lasik surgery. It's still a decision I regret. Had Dr. McMann actually asked questions, educated me, and properly advised me - instead of scheduling for surgery to make a quick dollar. I suggest doing all your research. Get referred by your primary eye doctor & their recommendation. Not the ophthalmologist you googled or was told by a friend who gave you a coupon. Look up the positives and negatives. When all your looking for information about lasiks, you rarely find the downfalls until it's too late. Ask about dry eyes. Light sensitivity, halos, night vision. This was the last text to Dr. Mann which I never got a response. Aloha Dr. McMann It's been almost 12 weeks since my surgery. Looking back, it's something that probably never should've been done. I've spoken to several different optometrist & ophthalmologist and they were all surprised you never trialed me in contacts. Especially since I've never experienced mono-vision. As a professional & a lasik specialist, this was your job to educate me. Even your optometrist and several of your employees told me they usually test patients in contacts before performing surgery. It's easier to trial clients to find out if they can function, adjust, or even like it. Unfortunately I learned this too late. What I'm also learning is what I wanted wasn't really attainable through lasiks. I was never going to be able to see perfectly near & far. When I asked you, if I would be able to shoot & edit before the surgery. This is when expectations & reality should've been presented to me. You told me I would be able to do everything I normally did. But that was not true. I had know idea what mono-vision was until you brought it up. Considering I'd never done it or heard of it. This should've been an indicator that maybe a trial in contacts would've been a better course of action. I trusted your judgement since you were the professional & the specialist. I am a photographer - this surgery has made my job infinitely harder. This surgery never made sense for me. I would've had to compromise my near vision to have perfect far vision. Which, if I'd been given the chance to trial mono vision, I could've avoided all this heartache. My eyes are a constant struggle. They don't like contacts. I wish everyday I never had this surgery. I went from one pair of glasses & no eye issues to 3 different prescription lenses & 4 different pair of glasses. One pair just so I can see without contacts. A pair to drive at night when wearing contacts, bifocals since my eyes have gotten worse since this surgery, and glasses so I can edit. My quality of life is much worse. All I do is complain about my eyes. I have constant issues with my eyes due to wearing contacts. My vision is off. It's a crap shoot when I wake up, if they will work correctly. I know I will eventually have to have surgery again to get myself somewhat back to normal and most likely need glasses in the end. But right I am beyond frustrated. I need you to be aware where I stand. I'm still figuring it out the best course of action for me. read more

I've been wearing glasses and contacts since the second grade so I can't remember what it's like waking up in the morning with clear vision. But now I can. I waited a week post op to write an honest review. I have had stable -6.50 vision for the past 8 years or so and have always wanted to do LASIK. I used part of my FSA from work to help pay for it so it's almost like a discount. I'm glad that I waited until after I hit 40 because Dr McMann offers mini mono vision lasik that will DEFER my need to wear bifocals for about 15-20 years! I can see perfectly for reading with my non dominant left eye and perfectly for distance with my dominant right eye. It's only been a week and I can see pretty good during the day and have been avoiding driving at night for a while. My eyes have been dry but that is a normal side effect that is supposed to go away in a month or so. The procedure itself was very easy. I got tons of numbing drops. The doctor placed a ring around my eye so that it wouldn't move during surgery. I was so nervous that my eye would move, but that ring does hold it down in place and the laser machine detects eye movement before you can and will shut down if you move your eye. I was only under the laser for a few seconds for each eye, but setting up is what takes the longest (and I was in the room 15 minutes tops) My sight is very important to me since my job depends on it. I would highly recommend this office and if you need a referral discount don't hesitate to pm me. read more

Had my laser eye surgery, LASIK, done here in April/May 2020 as a celebration for completing my bachelor's degree. I love the results and I am happy about my decision to have it done here. The front desk staff, Karen, and Dr. McCann are wonderful. They were able to answer all the questions I possibly had during my screening before my operation. During the operation, Dr. McCann and his assistants took their time to really make sure that the parameters were set to ensure a successful surgery. They even allowed my husband to watch the operation from which he watched through a TV screen mounted to the wall. The operation itself was very quick, painless, and I was able to see much more clearly by that night. I just got my lasik 3/4/2022. The office is super clean. The Dr. Mcmann was so kind. He has great communication. He will make you feel very comfortable. Staff is wonderful too, I can see why they are always busy. My vision has improved alot. Wearing glasses was a distant memory. They is some waiting but time flies by so fast. We live far away too. Takes about an hour to get there but it's worth it. My recommendations for anyone getting lasik. Take a week and half off. From pre surgery to post surgery. Time to heal and prep your eyes. Being a customer for many years, I can say that the optometrist is very good. The front desk people are usually very nice. However, it is almost impossible to reach them on their phone, and they don't call back after you leave a message. I originally went to the McMann eye institute for lasik eye surgery in September 2020. Overall I would say my experience has been pretty underwhelming. Upon first entry, you have some lovely ladies behind the front desk. They are very helpful and kind. The office itself tends to be cold - so bring a jacket, and the chairs in the waiting room are probably older than I am, and surprisingly uncomfortable and springy. So I would recommend sitting in the hallway. Dr. McMann himself tends to run about 45-90 minutes behind schedule unless it is a procedure day - which he was on time for my procedures. On non procedure days, I have never waited less than 40 minutes to see this man, and at maximum I have waited 2.5 hours despite being early to all of my appointments. Bring a phone charger, a book, leave the kids at home. They will be bored. Do not schedule any appointments for after, because you will be late to them. I had 2 rounds of lasik with Dr. McMann because the first time I was under corrected. They did warn me of this, and I am not upset about it. However, when I went back in for my first recheck and couldn't see well, he said it was just my eyes adjusting and I should put more eyedrops in. I did as he instructed, and returned a month and a half later for my recheck. Upon my recheck I was still complaining that I could not read street signs when i'm driving, squinting to read at grocery stores, and cant even read license plate signs in front of me. I was truly struggling to see and I was scared to drive- which I avoided as much as one adult could. He insisted that it was still my eyes adjusting and I STILL just need to put more eyedrops in and he wanted to see me in another 3 months. I became irritated with him because I was struggling to see and he seemed to not really believe me or care. I insisted that I couldn't see and I wanted to come back at the 3 month post-op mark(3 months is the earliest you can have an enhancement after lasik) I am happy I insisted on seeing him sooner because I was in fact under corrected. Which ultimately lead to my second lasik round, and my more than perfect vision. I am very happy with how my eyes have turned out, but dissatisfied with my overall experience here. -1 star because the chairs are so bad that its hard to sit with my back injury (this includes the ones in the lobby and the small ones you sit on in the exam room when his assistants do measurements on your eyes) -1 star for the chronic untimeliness and having to wait so long when I am on time to my appointments. -1 star for feeling like I had to really advocate because the Doctor didn't seem receptive to what I was saying read more

I'm 3 days out of Lasik surgery with Dr McMann and things have been amazing! I've needed glasses for over 30 years. Waking up and being able to see clearly is mind blowing. I had bad vision and astigmatism so I didn't really know what to hope for. I can also now see small things that I was beginning to have a hard time seeing with contact lenses. I work as an Emergency doctor and really need my vision. What had me go to Dr McMann was the success stories that I heard from other doctors about how good he was for them. I live on the other side of the island and the drive to his office was worth it. From doing the survey on the website, calling the office, getting a return call and the initial consultation on a Friday (especially with everyone being so busy with COVID), to scheduling the surgery in the office, it was all very predictable. I'd been thinking about Lasik for a few years but didn't want to go through the hassle of an evaluation and worried about what could go wrong. The consultation and the explanations from Dr McMann were very informative. Everything was clean and information was prepared. Since I'm not an eye specialist, he explained it to me very clearly and he answered my questions in a way that I could understand and feel at ease. I felt very comfortable after Dr McMann's examination and clearance, so I said "Let's do it!". I had to wait two weeks, then it was one more evaluation on the Monday before surgery to recheck my eyes and the plan. Then pick up some medications to get my eyes prepared for the Friday surgery. I saw someone else walk out after their Lasik before it was my turn and then I was prepped and in the room. The surgery was pretty quick and Dr McMann described everything as he was doing it so nothing was surprising. Then I got a well prepared kit with sunglasses and an eye protector to sleep with and instructions. I don't know if I was supposed to, but I could read those instructions with my "new eyes" and type emails by that evening. I could drive the next day without any problems. Dr McMann looked at my eyes and the flap on each eye looked good. Dr McMann cleared me to work and I was able to work in the hospital on Sunday. I'm listening to the instructions and putting in the eye drops to keep the flaps lubricated every hour and the antibiotic and anti-inflammatory. I would recommend Dr McMann to anyone who wants Lasik. For me and my eyes, it has been awesome. read more

I've been wanting to get LASIK eye surgery for awhile now after hearing about really great results from people who have gotten it done. I mean, who doesn't want to not have to wear glasses or contacts? Who wouldn't want to wake up and be able to see or not have to worry about taking out your contacts before going to bed? I saw a groupon for LASIK by another office and asked some people I know in the eye care industry about it because I was skeptical. A groupon for lasering off my eye balls??? Scary, right? The people I talked to had never heard of the eye care facility, so I didn't buy it. A couple months later I saw another groupon for McMann Eye Institute. After researching and asking the doctors and nurses that I know, I bought the groupon for $1,500 off the procedure and follow up appointments. Dr. McMann came with very good recommendations from people I trust, so I was a lot more confident with my groupon purchase. I spoke with Linda, the surgery coordinator, more than a few times. She was so patient with me and all my questions. I ended up having a couple bumps due to my flex spending account, but Linda was so accommodating. I had my surgery a week ago and my vision went from 20/400 or whatever to 20/20. The procedure itself took only 15 minutes for both eyes and I was able to see right after. The appointments do take a long time, however. For example, my follow up appointment today was scheduled for 10:00 and at 11:45, I still haven't seen Dr. McMann. :/ oh well, I'm kind of used to waiting around at the doctors offices. I found out about this institute because I was interested in getting LASIK surgery performed. From the very first call you make, you are instantly greeted and helped by the knowledgeable and friendly staff. I was walked through each step of the process, starting with scheduling an appointment for a free consultation to see if I was a candidate for LASIK. Landed an appointment as early as that week or the next week, if I remember correctly. Either way, the scheduling was very prompt for LASIK. After it was confirmed that I was an excellent candidate for LASIK surgery, we scheduled a pre-op appointment within the next week and then the day of surgery a few weeks later. The day of the pre-op appointment, I was briefed in detail of the procedure of surgery, prescribed with my medications and payment was collected. The day of surgery they made me feel as comfortable as possible and boy did they succeed! I walked in and out with confidence because of the professionalism and consideration they radiated. I did my 1 week post op a few days ago and my next will be a month from then. The entire time that I've ever visited this institute, I am always informed either by the assistant or the doctor himself. They answered all of my questions if I had any and I never felt uncomfortable. Got LASIK for my -9 eyeballs. So glad I got it. Had procedure done a couple months ago. Super easy. Could see basically after the surgery as long as I put my drops in. 20/20 vision next day after a good night sleep. The papers they make you sign with all the warnings and possible side effects are scary. I have no regrets. My vision is great and I can wake up every morning without needing to feel for my glasses. The staff is great and helpful. I did have to wait for my follow up appointments. An hour about. But that's minor in my opinion. The employees were hospitable and the exam was very informative. I have only two concerns. Our friend recommended the McMann Eye Institute. First, I wasn't impressed that I had to wait 5-6 months for open appointment for regular eye exam. I should have learned and scheduled with another doctor. There are plenty out their...lots of competition. Secondly, at time of appointment I provided two insurance provider cards. Time to pay the bill, they only submitted claim to one provider and asked me to pay the balance while waiting for their billing folks to submit claim to 2nd insurance provider. Didn't want to cause waves with employees so I agreed. I don't like this process of paying first while the claim is being processed and hope the medical office contacts me to provide a refund. I was referred by a friend to Dr. McMann for LASIK. I first spoke to Karen who is the coordinator for the surgery. We scheduled an appointment and things got rolling off to a start. I love how Karen and Dr. McMann are so experienced that they were able to give detailed answers to all my questions. Of course, there are risks but my mind was set at ease and there was no pressure to rush and have it done. I must say that the procedure itself is uncomfortable but I LOVED that Dr. McMann spoke throughout the entire procedure, giving a play-by-play of exactly what he was doing and what I should be feeling. After the procedure, my eyes took a day to recover. It's now been just over a week and I'm so glad to say I can see perfectly. If there was something I regret about this entire experience, it's that I didn't get it done sooner. There was really nothing to worry about. I love sharing my experience with family and friends. Not worth your time and money. They make you wait. For example appointment was 3:15pm yet they didn't see patient until close to 4:45pm. Other patients arrive and leave and you are waiting the staff keeps telling we are waiting for rooms 1 and 2 to open up. This is the first eye clinic that makes patients wait. I started wearing contacts and glasses since intermediate and it has always been an inconvenience being that I played sports. Glasses didn't work for me because they've always hurt my head, so I decided to use contacts. Contact lenses were nice but inconvenient at times, especially when I was tired and wanted to sleep. I also noticed contacts made my vision worse because I was not able to take it off like glasses. I decided to do the Lasik surgery so I wouldn't have to worry about glasses or contacts again. I had my surgery on 6/1/23 and it has been a little over a month now. It was the best decision I made! I love the fact that I can wake up without worrying about putting on my contacts. I would definitely recommend Lasik to anyone interested. At first, I was nervous about the procedure, but it was not bad at all. I still have a hard time seeing tiny words far away, however, I did notice an improvement from when I first did the surgery until now. read more

I had a checkup a month ago. When I checked in for my appointment, there were a lot of folks in the waiting room. I was seen 2 hours after my scheduled appointment. (The receptionist said there had been an emergency.) I had to return yesterday. Once again, I checked in for my 9:30 appointment (early). I said there seems to be a lot of folks in the waiting room, will I be seen shortly, I don't want a repeat of last time? The receptionist said both doctors were here - indicating no problem. After waiting 1 hour and 15 minutes, I asked when I would be seen. One woman said 45 minutes, the other said they could see me sooner if I went in front of the other people waiting. I said, I won't do that. I asked to see the office manager while they printed out my records (so I can go to another clinic.) They said he would come and talk with me but he didn't. I love the doctors, but if they can't respect my time, I can't go there. read more

The recurring issue with this place is that they are always overbooking their appointments resulting in extensive waiting times. Not 10, 15,20 30 minute waits but 45, hour and today,more than an hour and 15 minutes and still waiting. Woohoo! I finally got my Lasik surgery done last week with Dr.McMann and I am just so glad with my decision. If you are interested in getting Lasik at the McMann Eye institute, I would highly recommend it! It was a little bit of a drive for me going from town to ewa, but I just made sure to schedule my appointments during nonpeak traffic hours. I am now from -4.0 on both eyes to 20/20 vision! So I initially purchased the groupon of $149 for $1500 worth of lasik eye correction. I read some of the other reviews on yelp and was pretty convinced. I immediately called the reception to schedule an appointment to see if I was compatible (make sure you call in at least several weeks in advance! Its a small clinic with lots of patients so scheduling the right time can be difficult.) I had several occasions where I needed to reschedule, but the staff was very patient and professional. Linda is the rescheduling coordinator, and she is so wonderful! Came in early morning for my first appointment, and I was brought from room to room to get several tests on my eyes. Some down time is expected as they take care of other patients and look at my results. Talked with Linda and she made sure that all my questions were answered and how much the operation would cost. Total came out to around ~$3600 with groupon (still a bit high even with the groupon), but you can split your payments into two just as long as you pay before the surgery day. Your eyes are so important, and you want to make sure you have a doctor that has a good record and has been doing it for many years. Got to meet with Dr. Mcmann, shook hands, and we had a discussion about my eye shape and health. He explained that everything looked great and I was the perfect candidate for my age. After that I scheduled a preop appointment(just to triple check your eyes, dilate, measure), and then the actual surgery day. They had me taking two vials both 4x a day, two days before surgery. Surgery day came by fast and quick and it was done within a matter of minutes. They made me take a valium pill to make me feel relaxed...but I think it made me feel a bit drowsy. I felt a bit of pain right after surgery, and they gave me more numbing drops. After that I had a talk with the doctor again to answer any remaining questions, and then I was off home to rest. After my nap, there was no pain at all, vision was frosty, but not that bad where you cant see where you are going. By the end of the day, my eyes were back to normal, just a small uncomfortable feeling of wearing contacts. It is also expected to have some blood spots on the eye but mine went away by the end of the week. Its been over a week now and I love it! I always hated the inconvenience of putting on contacts and as an active person, glasses just had to go! Thanks so much Dr. McMann for the safe operation and better eyesight! read more

I used to see Dr. McMann, but one day he was overbooked and I ended up seeing Dr. Masaki. I actually like her even better, but it may be a bias because I prefer female doctors. Anyway, I've been seeing her now for my annual appointments and I'm very happy with her. They're both very polite and knowledgeable. Every one of their staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Appointments usually have to be made way in advance, even for established patients, which kind of sucks. The waiting area is very cramped and always full. Every time I've gone there it's also pretty warm. Wait time is always very long. While I do arrive early, they still don't take me until about 10-20 minutes after my actual appointment time (but I was raised to always arrive early, so that won't change). Because my annual appointments involve dilation, I'm usually at their office for about 1.5-2 hours every visit (including the time I'm waiting before my appointment). I've gotten used to it now, so I make sure to bring a book. The last time I was there, they had added seats just outside the office, but I hesitate to wait out there in case I won't hear them call me. Oh, because of the small waiting area, I recommend not bringing your children (especially baby in a stroller); don't bring your entire family (seriously, there's always someone in there with an entire entourage, come on!). There's literally like maybe 6-8 chairs and not much walking room. They have at least 2 doctors seeing patients all day so the chairs are needed for actual patients. read more

Dr. McMann and his staff at the McMann Eye institute are top notch. They are courteous, prompt and genuinely care. They did a great job letting me know what to expect before, during and after my LASIK surgery. Dr. McMann is talented, has a very calming demeanor and excellent bedside manner. He talked me through every step of the surgery as it was happening which made me more relaxed. I recommend him without hesitation! I had amazing results from the surgery and now my vision is the best it has been in my entire life! read more

Love the staff, love the office but we am sitting here at 9:30 and my wife's appt was at 9am. Not happy at the moment. The Dr. does amazing work but plan you day according because from our experience you will be seen after your appt time. If he is late for his first appt for the day, you know all the appts will be late. A LITTLE UPSET! UPDATE: within 2 hours Dr.McMann sent an email apologizing for being late. I just got LASIK done a couple weeks ago, and I LOVE BEING ABLE TO SEE!! Dr. McMann is awesome, and I really felt comfortable talking with Karen - who I was emailing a lot prior to my procedure, thank you Karen! I actually have a YouTube video explaining my whole experience, down to how I felt during the actual procedure (message me if you want to see it!) Might be helpful for those who have questions and really want to move forward with LASIK. The receptionists are also really friendly. Everyone has been great! The ONLY thing the one star is missing for is the wait time. Dr. McMann (and there's another doctor in the office, but I didn't catch her name but she was also really nice) are really popular due to LASIK and the fact they do regular eye appointments as well. But the wait time can get kind of long. My consultation for example: I was in the room with doctor for about maybe 10 minutes, but I waited about 50 minutes before hand. I found out about McMann Eye Institute by searching reviews for eye doctors specializing in LASIK & Dr. McMann's reviews were by far the best I saw. So I decided to take the leap to get LASIK. Never in a million years did I think I would get LASIK, I have always been terrified of the idea of LASIK. Dr. McMann explained that people experience vision loss and other serious eye issues more frequently from contact lens infections whereas such incidents with LASIK are almost never heard of. The logical side of me was sold. Now to the surgery itself. Dr. McMann met me twice before and needed to make sure I would be a good candidate. I appreciated his thoroughness. Operation day: Dr. McMann and his assistants were there, bless Diane for holding my hand the entire time! They were all talking to me, keeping me distracted, and Dr. McMann walked through every step and explained what would happen and that made all the difference. The process was painless and quick. It's amazing to see without decades of glasses, I couldn't be happier with my decision! Dr. McMann and his team are the best! Do not let the haters on Yelp tarnish this institution's reputation by complaining about long wait times. It happens. I care more about the actual work he does than these small, inconveniences. read more
