Been a year since my eye doctor recommended Hawaiian Eye Center for cataract surgery on my right eye. Everything went great. You do have to go to the Wahiawa clinic for the actual surgery, but I am 100% satisfied with the results. I can actually see without my glasses.. it's like magic! I was referred to this place since my ophthalmologist retired. The overall place is nice. Expect a long wait. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Unorganized staff. Lost records[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. I had gone twice. The first time was a good experience we covered all concerns. Maybe because there was an intern observing I transferred all my records. The second visit was horrible. I had a long wait and nobody could find my lab, x-rays and other pertinent records which the doctor ordered during my first visit. I had to email them what I had after waiting an hour on the exam chair while they looked for them. The doctor didn't seem very concerned about the results and just recommended to get new glasses with the new prescription and didn't spend time on my other concerns. He kept leaving the exam room while the nurse looked for my files. If all you need is a new prescription, it serves its purpose. But if you have other concerns, you will have to advocate for yourself. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I also asked for my file and never got it. The girls at the front desk made me wait for an answer on when I can get it while they talked about lunch[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Overall experience? Very unprofessional practice. They need to train their staff better. Otherwise my new eyeglass prescription is very good but I still had to go to a specialist to assess my other concerns which I thought they were going to help me with. read more

He asks if she can call him right back and leave a msg with the appt info.. he's a senior and things get mixed up. This is really close to where I live and figured I go here. Appt was not when it was supposed to be. After eye dilation they put me in a room where I'm sitting for an additional 15 min. Because there a difficult situation the doctor is dealing with. Ended up just waiting and took him all of 5 min. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The assistant for Dr wood had no personality nor customer service skills. I give Hawaii Eye Center the highest rating and regard for delivering eye health care in reasonable amount of time... Which is in stark contrast to other healthcare providers that can't really give you a date when such services can be delivered. And of course, if you ever had cataract surgery performed on you at their Wahiawa clinic, you will experience the notion of being a widget in their production line. At first, everything went as planned... Checked in, pay your copayment ($1,200 - Wow-wee!) and sit in the end chair of the production line. But what happens when something goes wrong? A patient has a complication? Or becomes a non-compliant widget - asking too many questions?! We'll I saw Doctor Terry Wood and he was fantastic! He explained to me that my complication was due to normal aging processes - who knew? And that my condition was probably triggered by the surgery and might be temporary in nature... I scheduled another follow-up appointment with him the following week and my eye was beginning to heal giving me much hope on the outcome of my surgery. I still had my follow-up visit with Dr. Rhee, so that appointment was scheduled the week after... So, right before the doctor saw me, their assistant was assessing my eyes with standard eye charts. My right eye, also having an implant provided by Kaiser, was reading out perfectly. However, my left eyes was still in the process of healing from my recent complication. Note to Hawaiian Eye: Most people are not stupid; people can generally tell, when their eye is still progressing to a better state - especially, if they've gone through the process before! At any rate, then the assistant proceeds to take measurements for a new prescription. This totally blew me away! I asked him why? He didn't have a good foundation to base the prescription on as I was still healing. He then, told me that he has to because that what they do.... Anyway, 10 minutes later, Dr Rhee comes in and spends all of 6 to 8 minutes with and tells me that I'm healed and I can stop taking my drops! Horray! I can now get my glasses! But hold-on Doc! Did you read about the episode I had 2 weeks ago? Apparently, no review of my record was made; not even the complaint the assistant entered into my record during that visit. And then I ask him, well, what good would the prescription be if my vision got better? It would be a complete waste of time and money - especially, if I didn't need them any for distance? Which, historically, was the case with me. "Well, sometimes the eye needs a little help," he said. Translation: Stupid widget, get back in line and be compliant, we know what's best! Long story short, I went out the reception area to reschedule another visit and the folks in the "Glasses Section" were shocked that I didn't want glasses. They must have been thinking. "Stupid Widget... Get with the program!" Anyway, I'm happy to report that my left eye has healed and my vision has significantly gotten better than it was 2 weeks ago. My next visit will no less, prove out this fact. But here's the icing on the cake... Fast forward to this afternoon, I receive a bill from Hawaiian Eye Center. My co-payment was a whopping $538... The detail in the bill was for "Other Commercial." Wonder what that is? Was it for developing a prescription that I clearly didn't want? Will find out from my medical insurance on their end.... totally hates this place although its just couple steps away from my place, the wait is tooooooo long and yet they you have an apppintment in the first place! I dont see the reason what's the wait for? and when after they called you and seat you inside a room, you already dozed off and never seen, you'lll spemd all day for the appointment! then when you waiting to be called after you checked in, of course wil stay where the chair was set up? (they will tell you, "excuse me , please move away from the counter!") they shouldn't put a chair in that area if they don't want anybody to be seated there or standing there, they should clear that area and remove that empty table and replace it with chairs, it's so crowded and they should know the days they are busy since they can see their appointments in the first place! Will talk to my patient if I can have her see different eye doctor instead... this place is horrible, last time I ordered my glassess, I have to return it because its not worth it having expensive because it doesn't help me for my vision at all! I can't see using the prescribed glasses! and then the reimbursement took me 6 months! HORRiBlE!!!!!!! Review update. After receiving terrible customer service from this business, I received a letter today stating their servers had been hacked and that my first/last name, ssn, address, email and phone number had all been compromised. So the cherry on top is I can know look forward to monitoring my credit reports and hope I am not a victim of identity theft. As an IT professional this makes me sick. I will never go to this place again and recommend you stay away for your own personal safety. What a joke. I am considering talking to legal counsel about liability should my identity in fact be stolen. You should be ashamed. read more

Dr. Wood was amazing and so were the assistants helping us with the check up. Unfortunately my experience was tainted by the receptionist. She was very rude and unprofessional when she was checking us in from the get-go. When I asked her to repeat what she was saying she yelled at us in a very demeaning way, without understanding that it was noisy due to their background music as well as the other receptionist answering phone calls - not to mention the glass divider in between us. What's even more jarring is that the 2 others afterwards that she was checking in, her tone totally changed and was no longer rude. I have never had an experience like this anywhere so I don't know if I'll be returning even if the other staff members were wonderful. I'd rather just avoid the feeling of being discriminated and interacting with such a negative individual. I had a horrible experience with this company. To me it feels like they took advantage of the situation to charge me more money where in fact they know that my eyeglasses are not covered by my insurance at that time but never said or advised me anything. No one wants to talk to me about my concern. They just want money (payment) for the mistake they made. read more

This eye center is awesome! It's a easy to find location right off of Farrington Highway in Waipahu. Everyone I came into contact with was very courteous and polite, and yet professional. I usually feel a little uncomfortable going in for an eye exam, but not here at all. From the receptionists to the eye doctor, everyone makes you feel super comfortable. Time is very valuable to me. I arrived to the clinic at 1350 and had an appointment scheduled at 1410. I was not seen by the doctor until 1550. It took 2 hours to be seen by the MD. That's way too long given I had a scheduled appointment and I arrived early to check in. read more

I was kinda apprehensive about my very first appointment because of a prior bad experience. However as soon as I walked in the door, everyone was all smiles and welcoming. They even called my name right on time! Audrey examined me and she was so very personable. And Dr Rhee was warm as well. So was the person at the eyeglass site. My whole family go to Hawaiian Eye Center even after Dr. Zobian left, we never had problems at all. Last July, I scheduled an appointment but I want all of us (my husband, me and our 2 kids) to come one-time, the appointment they gave me is Nov. 11 (saturday) that is 4 months away but since they will accomodate us, I accepted the appointment. Today, Nov 6 (monday) I called to double check our schedule and they said they are trying to reach me because they need to re-schedule our appointment because the doctor will have a seminar that day!!!! I am very disappointed and I ask if I did not call will you even call me? They said the manager called and leff a message for me, I swear I did not received any call or any message.. Ok, can you re-schedule I ask? Lady ask me, like saturday again? I said no, me n my husband requested that dayoff specially for that appointment, can you do monday after 2:30 coz my kuds finish school at 2, lady said no, last appt is 2 pm, I ask for wednesday, (short day in school) she said Nov 29, 1:10 & 1:30 for my kids ok done deal. I ask for me n husband nothing is available, I ask, can they just accomodate my husband together with my kids? The answer is NO!!! Reason???? They only take 2 family members at a time!!!! Wait What???? My original schedule is 4 people same day, now no can????? What happen I ask, she said she DONT KNOW!!! As of this time my husband dont have any schedule, Helen (the lady who is helping me with the schedule said she will call me as soon as she find a schedule for my husband, that was 230 pm we last talked.. What a great customer service they have, what a great coordination they have. Are we going back there??? NO WAY!! I ended up getting something suck in my eye. I called Hawaiian eye around 2pm and spoke to Ashley who squeezed me in for an appointment. Mind you, I was coming all the way from Ala Moana. Great place. Waipahu is a convenient location for me. I had a contact lens fitting with Dr. Mack and he was very informative. I found contacts that are comfortable to wear even with my extremely dry eyes. The clinic staff were super awesome and made me comfortable. The front office made ordering contacts easy.
