Went on Christmas Eve (mornjng) to pick up pies for Christmas and doughnuts for Christmas morning. Waited in line about 50 mins. The staff was wonderful. The cream doughnuts were phenomenal and we tried cream with granulated sugar on the outside, which I thought were awesome. The apple pie was delicious. The lemon meringue pie was one of the best I've ever tasted. We were not fans of the cherry pie. The cherries were too tart. I recently got my birthday cake here. We ordered a half sheet cake with one day's notice, and it was done the next day. They also were able to customize it to how I wanted it. As always, the cake was amazing. The cake was nice and fluffy, and the icing was to die for. I would recommend this to anyone that is looking for an exceptional bakery. Yep... This is a 5 star bakery. If you only ate one item, and that would be the cream donut, you'd still give it 5 stars. The donuts are sliced and filled with this cream that will make you forget that you were supposed to be at work shortly. My advice would be to to get the donuts with granulated sugar... The powdered sugar will wind up all over your clothes, no matter how careful you are. Seriously good cakes that are reasonably priced. A large variety of Danishes and cookies. There's a bread pudding on the display that looks pretty good. This place is a dieters nightmare. But a necessary stop in the morning. Also, do yourself a favor and park on the street. To the review: I live two blocks down the road from this bakery and had somehow managed to never visit since moving to the area last June. That changed with Saturday's gorgeous weather. I had read that the vanilla cream donuts were the best -- and thus got two of them. They are in the abyss of my stomach now along with a pumpkin donut. My mother's 89th birthday, so she deserves the best. I asked her what kind of birthday cake she wanted and she didn't care, so I took that to mean GET WHATEVER YOU WANT, ALLIE! To be honest, I've avoided this place because it has the world's worst parking lot. Tiny, only four or five spaces, and you have to back up into oncoming traffic on Haddon Ave. in order to exit. On a busy day, this could be insane. Anyway, back to the bakery itself. I chose a small two layered red velvet cake with a white cream cheese frosting. Not too long ago, I had a $60 version of a similar cake and other than size (this was smaller), this was just as good for 1/3 the price. Respect your elders - in case, my 89 year old mama and a bakery that's been around since 1939! This donut is like an open faced creme cannoli with just the right amount of ingredients and topped with powdered sugar. Mmmmmmm yes! I did a 12 assortment for the office. Each one of the donuts were a hit but the mammoth sized 'WHITE DONUT' was talked about 48 hours later. Legendary? A firm yes at my office and definitely the route to go if your looking to bribe your way into a raise or maybe just bring in at a meeting. Even some of my gym addict co-workers were saying thank you. McMillan's was on a list of the best doughnut shops in nj so we went to check it out. There was a line out the door.... good sign!!!! It's a full bakery with everything you'd expect to find..... we tried 6 doughnuts and a scone. Haven't tried the scone yet but we tried all the doughnuts. Three creme filled, two different kinds of apple cider and a cruller style. I was very excited about the creme filled ...... although they are good the creme was a very sweet creme. I'm not sure if it's maybe more like royal icing maybe. It's good and it's very light and fluffy, just very sweet. The apple cider doughnuts were good also..... not my favorite but good. The doughnut base is different from like delicious orchards style apple cider. The chocolate frosted cruller was our favorite. It reminded us of the Dunkin doughnuts cruller before they were mass produced. Very lite and delicate and a little doughy inside. Very very good. I'm excited to try other things here. I stopped here over the weekend when I was crazing something sweet. They had cookie trays on the counter for sampling and they were so good I had eaten three of them without even noticing. They had a variety of cakes pies, cookies and donuts available for purchase. After getting to sample the cookies I opted for a few donuts. I choose a glazed, pumpkin crueler and cream donut. The glaze was hands down one of the best (if not the best) I've ever had. The cream donut was overflowing with cream and was also very good. The pumpkin crueler was dense and had very little pumpkin flavor. I absolutely will visit again to try some of their other offerings. read more

McMillan's has long been our go-to bakery, even though it's out of the way and we have 2 bakeries which are considerably closer. This most recent experience was unfortunately sub-par on 2 of 3 counts. 1. We have always loved the boxed cookies that are available from the shelf by the window. They are quite pricey but have always been worth the splurge. Not this time. The whole assortment had a heavy oily flavor which overtook the cookies. Several that were little lightweight triangles covered with powdered sugar were so bad, we had to throw those right out. It will be a long while before we buy those again. 2. We also love the pineapple upside-down cake here. This was the saving grace of our visit. It was absolutely delicious, just perfect in every way. 3. A young man waited on us. He was not friendly to the point of being actually unfriendly and abrupt, and not at all a personality typically seen at a counter-service bakery. Lighten up, man; it's a bakery where people come to find delight in the form of sweet treats, not a barge hauling job for the Volga Boatmen. read more

I can't believe that McMillan's has less than 5 stars (even though it has some flaws). The baked goods are old-world incredible. Service is fast, efficient and nice. It's exactly what you want in a bakery you swing by! I stop in on occasion when I find myself in NJ and I'm never disappointed! Pros: Donuts - apparently something they're famous for? The infamous cream filled donuts are a sugar overload, but lovingly filled and can be a bit of a mess. However, they are delicious and fresh and don't have even a hint of factory-made flavor to them. Truly a delicious, authentic treat! The apple cider donut and the bismarks are also our favs. Breads - occasionally we like to snag a sour dough to take home. They're a dense and enjoyable and they'll pre-slice them for you (and any other bread) on site before you go! Cupcakes - exactly what you want and easily cheaper than some fancier bakeries (especially in Philly). Nothing unique, but nothing wrong either. Service is fast, efficient and friendly and I love the old school boxing and string. Cons: Some prices, like Christmas cookies are a bit out of whack. I don't get it. And I wish they were a bit more transparent/labeling of some prices as well. The parking lot is a hellscape. I know that the Wawa parking lot is prone to being awful, especially during rush hours, but chance it and park there versus this miserable lot which is too narrow and populated by some older folks who...shockingly still have licenses. Conclusion: We stop many times when we come over from Philly. Mostly for a breakfast treat like the donuts, but also we like to share McMillan's cakes and cookies with friends when we travel. My customers and my office coworkers love they place, so I come here quite a bit, especially with the holidays. Some of the favorites: They have phenomenal doughnuts, all shapes and sizes,$1.40, I think what they do best is they slice the doughnuts down the middle and fill them with their delicious rich cream. Their danishes are also on point, very fresh and very fruity, $1.40. McMillians also always has pineapple upside down cake, which is very moist, $10. Delicious cheesecake, but their are tiny, they are sold by the pound and they ain't cheap. When I got the cake it only had Happy Birthday on it and nothing else like decorations. Also the chocolate was dark and not good and the vanilla was more orange than yellow and had a bitter taste. All in all it was not a good cake and I will not order from them again. I am sorry that Classic Cake has not reopened and that DiBartolo and excellent bakery closed its doors. McMillan's advertises that they ship. However, we sent cream donuts to our mother for mother's day. They said that the donuts would go out to UPS overnight. Very disappointing. The donuts were shipped in a box that was too big and the donuts arrived at our mother's smashed up and the cream was all over the box. I'm sure they will taste good but definitely not packaged correctly. McMillan's should not ship until they learn how to package the goods. read more

From what I can tell, this place has baked goods that will please everyone. I came here and picked up a variety of items (doughnuts, danishes, etc.) for people. Everyone liked what they ate. I think I was a little bit disappointed with the cream filled doughnut. Everyone has raved about it so much, I think I expected it to be better. I think what disappointed me was the fact that I thought it would be a fresh (whipped) cream, but it was more of a sugary pastry cream. It wasn't bad, just not what I expected. I liked the fact that they had apple cider doughnuts without glaze, with glaze, and with powdered sugar. The one without glaze was just the right amount of sweetness for me, but I thought it was lacking in apple cider flavor. Overall, I think most people would like coming here or getting the pastries from here. The service was very good. I was surprised that they didn't have the most extensive cookie collection, but they more than made up for it in their pastries and other treats. I would definitely go back there to pick up breakfast items if I have guests over. read more

Hands down the best bakery and the best donuts in town. I brought these to a client last year, and now I'm virtually required to bring them every time I go back to that client. My co-workers flock down to them when they arrive in our office. From the super-delicious creme-filled donuts (powdered, sugared and chocolate varieties) to the simpler but no less delectable apple cider donuts, I've yet to find one that wasn't fantastic. Well, maybe the jelly donuts but that's a personal thing, so I'll give them a pass. The donuts are the more traditional styles - no Fruit Loop-coated Maple Bacon donuts - but hold there own against those novelties. Once you've had them, you'll never look at Dunkin' Donuts or Krispy Kreme without a hint of disdain. And their cakes are just as good. Sadly, our favorite - the triple-chocolate mousse cake with real raspberry filling - is no longer on the menu, but their mousse cakes and other cakes and cookies are all delicious. When we're having an event, this is usually the first place we go to get our baked goods. The only downside is that the on-site parking lot is a nightmare to navigate. You're better off using street parking just before the bakery and walking. But that's a small price to pay for their heavenly baked goods. read more

I've been getting cream donuts from here since 1980 and they are an annual tradition in my family to have them on Easter because everyone loves them so much. We got some yesterday for our holiday today and no way are they the same donuts I've been getting all these years. The donuts were just thrown in the box in a heap so some of the iced donuts were stuck to the paper, causing a sticky mess, the donuts tasted old and stale and the cream did not taste like the good buttery cream that I remember. Everyone could taste the shortening in these donuts and no one ate them. Now I'm stuck with 1.5 dozen donuts and I feel like our annual tradition just ended. If this is a cost cutting method from the bakery they missed the mark. Very, very disappointed in the quality of the donuts I received this year. Everyone knows McMillan's for their powdered cream doughnuts. These are so good they could sell themselves. Unfortunately, counter help is an obstacle sometimes, as customer friendliness is not something you can buy here. I went in asking specifically for a carrot cake and found that they had two sizes so I selected the larger one. I was charged only $25. I asked the young lady why it was the same price for both sizes, to be sure I was getting the right price for the product to which she said "at this point in the day, I DON'T CARE" (a little less than 1/2 hr before closing). The two girls behind the counter also cursed and growled obnoxiously about the phone every time it rang as if they couldn't be bothered with questions from anyone. I'd like to think it was just somebody having a bad day, but this kind of attitude in front of a manager indicates that it is acceptable practice here all the time. The quality of the carrot cake was average, not extraordinary. Their choice of an overabundance of ingredients is not my taste as I do prefer simpler carrot cake recipes from elsewhere. Occasionally, I do also buy bread here, and it has been better than supermarket bakeries, boh in quality and price. Yes, Credit cards are accepted for orders with minimum of $10. All others must pay cash. The parking lot is difficult to maneuver multiple cars in because it is not much wider than a driveway. However, 15 minute parking on the street can be had for free by pressing the short term button on the parking meter. read more

First of all their baked goods are just better quality, my colleagues were raving about how good the baked goods were, but lastly found out that they're PEANUT FREE at this bakery. So I can bring the leftovers to my daughter who has an allergy to peanuts. It's win-win, cannot wait to tell her that we can now buy donuts (delicious ones) for her. I'm with another reviewer in that, it was an overwhelming amount of cream...but the donut in its own right, was good. I loved the tender pastry with the doughy center. I have to admit, I ended up not eating half the cream, but I appreciated that it wasn't overly sweet. The bakery is old school charming, bright with mostly warm wood interior.
