On my way home made a side stop here. Best decision ever!! Phenomenal bar b que! I had to pull over as not to waste this experience of eating the best chopped brisket sandwich ever! Tasted my husband's MAC plate and he's going to be thrilled. I will definitely come back. MAC was so kind and amazing, clean inside and out. Great place for a bike ride or family day trip. You gotta go.

I made a special trip to McMillan's BBQ after having read about it in Texas Monthly's list of recommended BBQ places. Perhaps it was just an off-day when I visited, but I was quite disappointed in the food. I stopped by around 2pm on a Saturday and ordered the sliced sausage plate with a side of barbecue beans and potato salad. The sliced sausage was cold -- not just room temperature, but cold like it had been taken out of the refrigerator and allowed to sit on a counter for 20 minutes. Being that the sausage was cold it wasn't very moist or flavorful, even when dipped in sauce. My partner's meal suffered from the same cold-meat issue. The potato salad was unlike anything me or my dining partner had encountered before. It was very sweet, as if it was made with miracle whip and sugar. The barbecue beans were, however, hot and very flavorful. In fact, the beans are probably better than beans I've had at most other barbecue establishments. The eclectic interior makes for an interesting dining atmosphere, especially with the walls covered in dollar bills signed previous customers. Service was friendly, although it felt like the lady working the counter was doing double duty as she kept going into the back and disappearing for periods of time. Another young man kept walking out to the counter but he too was busy doing something in the back. Several other patrons came in while we were there and ordered meals, which was surprising given that the restaurant is literally the only thing for miles around. Nothing about this establishment really stood out, aside from the good beans. I might or might not give them a second chance if I happen to be on the road to Goliad, however I wouldn't make a special trip.

They have plates to eat your food there but we opted for the to go box to bring back to our RV. Shown is the ribs and chicken.

--- During our Winter Texan stop to the Historic Goliad area, we could not resist stopping by this cute looking BBQ place just down the road from the Historic Fannin Battleground site. Had heard about this place from the Lady at the visitor center in Victoria as being a must stop place at which to eat. WOW !!! Louis McMillan has proven to us that he is the master of the low and slow BBQ method of which we have never had the privilege to have been blessed with before in our lives. Tastes SO much better than the average BBQ style around the country. Just can not give enough praise. The smoke flavor has deliciously embedded itself in the meats. My wife Sheila knows that I NEVER give praise where it is not deserved. Nice going Louis... you and your great assistants have put a happy notch in our traveling moments.

THIS IS THE BEST BBQ YOU WILL EVER HAVE. PERIOD. I first tried McMillan's about 13 years ago, on a family trip to Victoria (Goliad/Fannin). My mother already knew of McMillan's and made sure we got a fill before we left town. I have yet to try any BBQ as delicious, and I have eaten plenty of BBQ in my lifetime. Trust me. I know that inside certain city limits, there are restrictions on how long you can smoke the meats - due to fire hazards. Luckily for McMillan's, they don't have that problem. Tender meat that falls off the bone doesn't need barbeque sauce. I tell people this all the time, but you would have to have had good BBQ to know that. Seasoned, flavorful & plenty are the words I would use to describe the food at McMillan's. I can't wait to go back to visit - I might even stay longer than a day. It really is worth a trip.......

Review: Butter's BBQ - Deserving of the Top 50 Title…read more Stepping into Butters BBQ, a true brick-and-mortar establishment, the atmosphere immediately confirmed its reputation. With plenty of indoor seating and a genuine, welcoming BBQ joint vibe, the setting is as comfortable as the staff is enthusiastic. This is clearly a location where the team is passionate about their craft, and their helpfulness in guiding us through the menu was much appreciated. Having secured a coveted spot on the "Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ" awards list, the question was: did the food live up to the hype? The answer is a resounding yes. The Smoked Meats: A Masterclass in Fire and Smoke The menu offers a tight selection of Texas staples, all executed with precision: * Brisket: The star of the show delivered on nearly every front. It boasted a good tenderness and a beautifully defined smoke ring. While a few outer edges were slightly dry, the overall flavor profile was rich, deep, and satisfying, proving why the brisket is the cornerstone of any great Texas joint. * Pork Ribs: These were exceptionally tender, falling away from the bone without being mushy. The flavor balance was perfect--rich and meaty, thankfully avoiding the overly "hammy" note that can sometimes plague smoked ribs. A solid rib glaze complemented the excellent dry rub flavor, resulting in a perfectly balanced bite. * Jalapeño Cheese Sausage: A standout item. This double-grind sausage had a fantastic consistency and was heavily infused with a nice peppery flavor and well-integrated spices. While a minor note, a bit more cheese would have elevated it further, but the quality of the sausage itself was undeniable. * The Texas Twinkie: A true piece of barbecue artistry. This treat--a large jalapeño stuffed with tender brisket and cream cheese, then wrapped in thick-cut bacon--was executed flawlessly. The preparation was exactly as a Texas Twinkie should be, finished with a beautiful, savory glaze on the bacon that sealed the deal. Elevated Sides The sides were not an afterthought, featuring one truly memorable dish: * Mexican Elote: This was an excellent side dish and a clear elevation of the classic street corn. The careful mixture of flavors, topped with a solid amount of Cotija cheese and a generous squeeze of lime, made this a bright, tangy, and creamy complement to the heavy meats. * Brisket Charro Beans: A comforting and hearty offering. This was a pretty standard preparation of pinto beans, mixed expertly with brisket and onion--a reliable, staple side dish that did its job well. Final Verdict Butter's is very deserving of its "Texas Monthly Top 50" position. The meat quality, especially the ribs and the perfect Texas Twinkie, combined with the elevated Elote, solidifies its position as a very solid BBQ joint. We left feeling impressed not only by the food but by the genuinely passionate staff who run the operation. This is a must-visit for any serious Bbq enthusiast.

Drove out to Sinton Tx today to start my journey on the Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ spots…read more Very disappointed at Butter's BBQ today. Got the brisket it was a bit on the dry side. The sausage was just ok nothing special but the turkey was dry and tasted OLD. We did get a Beef rib which was pricey but it was the only item that was delicious and made the drive worth it. They did have FREE lone Star beer. But the employees looked tried and nobody was smile. I was there a bit before 11am which is when they open. Gone are the days of recommending this place. Not sure how they made the Top 50 list. There were 3 of eating and we all agreed that the beef rib and the sides were the best.
