Love, love , love this aquatic center. On the hottest days of summer there is nothing better than jumping into this pool and swimming some laps. Even on the coldest days, they keep the temperature just right. You need to check the hours because this is a popular pool. There are swim meets, scuba classes, kayaking classes and the ever popular free swim times (when you can ride the water slides), but what I come for is the lap swimming. The pool is shallow on one end which makes it great for novice swimmers to get their confidence up, and deep enough at the other end to have some diving boards. The price went up a while ago to $4 per session, but that is still a deal. The facilities are in great condition. There is plenty of locker space and showers. Remember to bring your rubber sandals, goggles and a lock. This is one of the best places in Bakersfield to get some exercise. read more

The good: nice pool! Great to be outdoors swimming laps. Friendly staff The bad: hours have been severely cut back in last two years. Also, they blast commercial radio which means stupid loud commercials which definitely kills the chill vibe. Good Lord, almost any other pool either plays nothing (peaceful), or commercial free streaming. Winter maintenance is annual and rather excessively long. Traveling through Bakersfield and wanted to swim this is a great place to do laps wonderful facility!!

Took the family here on a Friday and we had a great time! Lots of folks, but it didn't feel crowded. The young employees there were very responsible and fun-loving to all the guests. It was very reasonably priced at $13 for 2 adults and 2 kids. We arrived at 1:00p, stayed until 4:00p closing. My kids went down each slide 3 times a piece, and each time waited approx 15 min in line to go down. There are several wading pools, a deeper pool for swimming, and a spray zone for the little ones. Several lifeguards, and the facility accepts credit/debit cards, including the snack bar! Everyone in Bako should at least go once each summer. Great job McMurtrey! read more

My husband and I took the kids here on a hot summer day. It was our first time and it was a very reasonable price to get in. I love how they have a water-slide because my kids were on that thing the whole day. They have a small area with tables and chairs where you can put your belongings (bags, towels, etc.) I just wish they had the area bigger and brought out more tables and chairs. There were people who were standing waiting for others to leave so they can use that table. Overall, my kids had so much fun. We'll be coming back this summer! read more

So glad this community swimming pool exists in Bake. :) Great place to come for lap swimming during any day of the week. Prices are reasonable; they recently went up to $4 per lap swim. Facilities and locker rooms seem clean thus far, and people are generally friendly. Life guards are always on staff when the pool is open, so you can rest assured there are safety precautions in place. There are some annual kid-friendly / family-friendly events held at this pool as well, but have yet to attend any of those! read more

Great place to bring the family! Kid friendly, lifeguards always close by but not too annoying, clean, nice staff and fun! Our kids had so much fun and as a mom, I found this place to be really convenient as I went alone w/ my 3 kids (ages 3, 6 & 8). I was worried that I'd have a problem looking after all 3 in such a crowded environment but I didn't. If you're looking for summer fun, this would be a wonderful place! The pool was a bit salty but it was really good for 4$ it's open 1-4pm and I ordered a pizza slice for 3$ and an icee for 2.50$ the large soda was also 2.50$. For a whole pizza it was 14$. I have been to this place several times since it's opening, and I have no plans to ever return. My kids have always enjoyed swimming and playing on the toys but it's always short lived, because EVERY time we have went, they close the kiddie pool within an HOUR. The larger pool will stay open, but it's not fair for the smaller children. The least they could do was give you a refund or a pass to return another day. Thank you for always being a disappointment! I love coming to McMurtrey Aquatic Center do lap swim. The pool is usually kept quite clean and you never have to wait for a lane, you might just have to share. If you have to share a lane, please just remember the rules of sharing a lane: ***When you share a lane, ask or let the other person(s) know you're joining them. By this time you should have already identified whether the other swimmer(s) are faster or slower than yourself, so pick a lane close to your own pace. When you join, let the other swimmer decide whether you will split the lane (each of you swims on your own side of the lane) or swim in "circles" (each of you swims up on one side and back on the other). If you are the third (or more) swimmer, expect to swim in "circles". Just remember If someone joins your lane, you get to decide and under no circumstances is it acceptable to jump into a lane with a swimmer already in it before asking them!!!!! read more

This pool is as good as it gets. Wide Lanes, Temp Controlled, Clean, Outside, Excellent service. Having swam at many pools all around the world, the place is world class. A+ highly recommend. Excellent value. Perfect pool. Check their site for hours and if the long lanes are open. I like the long lanes as it kind on puts me in a meditative state. Wow! I like this place. BTW, to the person who preached pool etiquette on Yelp, lighten up! If I saw you in the pool all by yourself, I would just jump in your lane just to piss you off and get you to cry, like the spoiled ass I think you are, to the staff. read more

since i've been working in bakersfield for the past month, i had to make sure i knew of a pool in the area, to maintain the cardiovascular system and to keep the mind/body sound. i've been lap-swimming here regularly for the past 3 weeks. the pool is clean, so the $3.00 per visit for lap-swimmers is definitely worth it. they even have fins to use, including kick boards and pull buoys. various lanes are set up. each lane is categorized by speed. lap-swimmers must select lanes respective of their speed and swim in circles if there are 2 or more lap-swimmers in a lane. on weekends, lanes are set-up to swim length of pool (woohoo!). there's a children pool with a huge colorful twisty slide too (woohoo!). read more

Shhhh!!! Best kept secret in town!!! I have swam at McMurtrey for approximately 10 years and I have only good to report about the place. I attend the deep water intervals classes and they are awesome!!! Not only can you get a great workout, but you can make great friends too. They charge $40/ session which is approximately three days a week for three weeks. Everyone is friendly. The pool is so clean and inviting. There are lockers, plenty of showers, even ones with benches for the handicapped. Give them a try! You won't be sorry. read more

I truly enjoy being able to come with my boys to the water park..it is a rule that you can't wear cotton...everytime we go we take are special swim wear and are still questioned. It is pretty annoying especially when you see a whole group of people in regular street clothes..the only thing they were told was to properly wear there life vest. They really should stick to there policies towards everyone. read more

Great public pool area. They also have swim classes for various levels of ability, mommy and me classes, and other swim related events through out the summer. This place does not support Veterans. My family and I tried to come for a Veterans event for Wounded Heroes Fund. We were told vets would have priority to get in. My family along with some others got here around 12:20pm, 40 minutes before the facility opened. We waited in line until 1pm and then were told to get in a different line since the Wounded Heroes group would go on together. We waited another 10-15 minutes while the workers started to let the general public in. A gentleman went up and asked what was going on, since we were supposed to get priority. He was told we would have to wait until our entrances were paid for. Finally a young lady came out and told our group that we now needed to get back in the main line and wait our turn. All this while we could have just stayed in line where we were in the first place and just paid the $3 entrance fee ourselves. So all the vets had to get in the main line, which had gotten ridiculously long and wait in the heat even longer. At this point, we gave up and went home. I had never come to this place before this, but after the way the Wounded Heroes I will definitely avoid it. Way to treat your veterans Mcmurtrey Aquatics! read more
