My favorite gym location on Coffee. The staff is always friendly and welcoming when you walk in, and I constantly see them working hard to keep the gym and equipment clean. I would definitely give the staff members 5 stars. But if I was to rate gym members it would be 2-3 not all, of course, but some need to do a better job of putting equipment back after using it. And picking up their drenched plastic bags in the steam room. Overall, I really enjoy this gym and appreciate the staff. I just hope members can be more considerate so the gym stays clean and enjoyable for everyone. read more

So I had been off away from this gym for six weeks because I had back surgery and I come back and now they don't have any towels because the towel machine is broken. I come to work out on Saturday morning and then I go to work right after afterwards I need to take a shower. Whether it's there's no soap in the handicap shower or the shower is broken or there's no towels. This gym is just ridiculous. It's always so hard just to take a shower here for one reason or another and I pay for this. I will say this again the only reason why I come here is for one person's class and that is Airica's class. If she didn't teach her, I wouldn't come here at all. And instead of getting a towel service like I do at the hair salon when we have no towels, They're just gonna keep charging people for it and dwindling down their amenities. They already did that at all the other locations. It's just that I don't need to shower at the other locations when my work schedule is different. It would just be nice to get an email or a notification saying what is broken before we get here in the morning. Because of course, I have my own towels at home. I could've simply brought one. I had just opened up a membership and on day 1 someone stole my designer prescription glasses , they claimed that people are honest and they go by word-of-mouth with whatever situation goes on there, they claimed the cameras upstairs can't zoom in , the cameras upstairs don't work there's no cameras up there , and the only way you can file a report is by calling the police and going the extra mile . The supervisor just sits in her office talking to anybody that's willing to give her the time of day.. the front desk is unprofessional and looks clueless, apparently they hire anybody go ahead and apply. If you need a job..., I just moved out here from Long Beach, and honestly, I expected this type of behavior out in a Compton gym... first day in a conversation with another gym member she tells me that a lot of girls complain about outbreaks and they don't wear underwear when they use the equipment , it honestly sickens me. I was planning on switching to another inshape gym in town til they gave me the runaround about my glasses situation .. honestly I do not recommend this gym at all the supervisor Maria /Marie or whatever her name is , very unprofessional . Bad customer service. There is almost no way to get in contact with anyone who can help you. It all has to be done through the app. The equipment is never in the right location and machines are noisy and unmaintained with years of wear. That goes for the yoga mats and weights too. Inshape charges for a premium gym membership but they don't even maintain their equipment or make sure that anything goes back to their designated spaces. The gym is always at capacity and you can never find an open machine, space, or even parking spot. Not to mention when the steam room was down for like 6 months, and the sauna is always way too full with nowhere to sit or stand. read more

Parents Night Out feedback. This is such a great service that In-Shape offers when using reward points. I have used this service twice; however, the last time my husband and I signed up for this event, there was a lot of miscommunication. The gym location we frequent is not the gym location that offers the parents-night-out event; however, this event is open to any member of in shape even if your membership consists of only one location (points required). The first inconvenience, is that in order to sign up for the event, you have to do it in person at In shape Seven Oaks which is 6 miles away from where we live. In shape Riverlakes is only half a mile away from our house but this location doesn't offer the event. So in order for seven oaks to prepare for the event (because they need to make sure they order food and have activities for the kids) they have to know ahead of time, which makes complete sense. Now, not all employees at seven oaks know this or have any idea of how this event works. The second time we were signing up for the event we were told over the phone "oh don't worry you don't have to come out here to sign up, just come the day of and you'll be ok". Well we did this, and as we were checking in the kids they told us that they didn't know we were coming and that they didn't have food or were prepared for any kids since no one had signed up. They managed to still take the kids in but we had to get some fast food real quick to bring back to the kids so they can eat. When asked about Septembers event (they do this once a month) I was told over the phone, " it will be on X day and you have to sign up in person". Ok so today, I was running errands around the area so I figured to stop by and sign up for this months event ahead of time. The employee at front desk "oh you have to be a member at this location to participate" I told him, "this is not true as I've done this event before". He then said "oh just come the day of and you'll be ok". I told him "no, that's not the way it works because that didn't work for us last time, I was told that I need to do this ahead of time so you guys can prepare for it". He then reached out to someone on the phone and also to someone in their kids club to get some clarity. He then tells me that a manager would be in a couple of hours and to come back. This was Very inconvenient because I didn't have the time to come back since I don't live in the neighborhood. I'm not knocking on the employee at the front desk as he wasn't the only one with misleading information about this event it's been multiple. I overall see poor training from management. I've had customer service jobs myself and understand the importance of proper training to provide exceptional service to those spending money at your place of business. Whoever manages these Bakersfield locations, I suggest to dedicate more training to your employees. I also suggest to make it easier to sign up for this event on the IN SHAPE App. read more

The kid Zone states that they provide childcare from three months old ; however, the two ladies that work in the afternoon, obviously hate their job. They make no attempt to interact with the babies. They want to just place them in a jumper or a swing and pay absolutely no attention to them or engage with them whatsoever. It's disgusting to treat an infant in this manner. It must be stated, though that the ladies that work during the day are absolutely wonderful. They engaged with the babies and act as if they truly love what they're doing. All the times I have come here, my 10 year old will go to Kidzone and she seems to always have fun. Staff seems friendly, and this Inshape is very spacious and clean. I habe been attempting to cancel since January of 2025. I was told I couldn't cancel over the phone and twice I went in person to cancel amd they gave me different information. A manager was called on my third attempt (over the phone) amd FINALLY canceled my membership. I enrolled last year in thw fall when it was cold and thw heater was broke 3/5 times I used it. This was the only reason why I enrolled. The front staff doesn't seem to be well trained that it took a third attempt and a manager to cancel. Perhaps the system is set up this way so thwy can continue to charge you. So now, I am going to be charged again - they said next onto would be the last charge...the same thing they have been telling me since March when this was suppose to happen. In shape is the best gym in Bakersfield. I particularly like the coffee location. I use the sauna and the pool quite a bit. When I arrive in the morning Mia is at the front desk with a smile and saying "good morning, how are you?" almost like she knows me. It makes me feel comfortable and the gym is always clean. I believe David has a lot to do with it. I usually talk to him in the studio room as he keeps his head down constantly working. They both deserve a raise. This club is disgusting and needs some serious maintenance!! I was excited to join online but that quickly turned to extreme disappointment when I saw the ladies locker room. They really need to hire professional cleaners to maintain the area because it's absolutely disgusting! There's old dirt and grime and piles of hair on the floor. The steam room literally stinks from the years of grime not properly cleaned. I see them sweep but it needs a deep cleaning that the random 20 year olds they hire simply cannot accomplish with the tools they give them. The jacuzzi is extremely rough on the edges and seats because of deferred maintenance. Be careful maneuvering or the rough seats will scrape your knees, like the did to mine multiple times. It really needs to be resurfaced but this club is so cheap, I doubt they ever will. The towels they give you are the lowest quality , basically they are large cleaning rags, so thin and rough, they hardly dry you. If you dare enter the jacuzzi after reading this, make sure you bring flip flops to get through the disgusting floors and your own towels! I complained on their website immediately after joining and nothing has been done! They simply don't care, they just want to make as much as possible, while skimping on maintenance!! read more

Equipment: 5/10 The reason this is not getting 4 or 5 stars. NEEDS NEW TREADMILLS!!!!! Literally all but three of the treadmills are either broken or have extremely loose tread bands. I feel like I'm going to tear an ACL on the vast majority of the treadmills when running! There are about three or four treadmills I feel safe running on and when they're taking it's extremely upsetting. If they got new treadmills, then I would give them 5 stars easily!!!! Manager is a great reflection of the people she hires; incompetent. I was mislead by wrong information regarding my membership by a team member and Marisol response was "He doesnt work here anymore because he was misleading information" "its in the policy, dont believe anything he said". Well thats great; a member is fired and misleads me and you can't do anything to make up for the people YOU hire & TRAIN & SUPERVISE. Marisol didnt come from a place of understanding more of "ITS IN THE POLICY NOTHING I CAN DO SIR". I don't recommend this location, and definitely don't trust whatever they tell you when they have you sign up because Manager even herself said "no matter what the staffs says go by the Policy." I dont blame the team member I blame the person whos in charge of them. They can only be as good as they are lead to be. Marisol if you don't enjoy your job, simple soloution, dont do it. I became a member in November of this year. I joined at the Bakersfield Coffee location. Since then there has only been a short window of time when the pool and spa have been available and warm. The air temperature also is on the cool side. I am recovering from a back injury and this was my plan to get back on track to more activity. In the meantime I have visited the California and White Ln gyms. The water and room temperatures are kept warm and comfortable in these locations. However, Coffee Rd is the closest location to my home. The pool at Coffee is dirty. I stated my concerns with the manager and was given an unsatisfactory response of that the dirt came off the ceiling. Sorry that doesn't fly. The building is dirty and lights are off. read more

I switched to here after someone broke into my car at planet fitness. It is WONDERFUL. I've taken a few classes and Sarah is awesome! The machines are clean and there's tons of things to do in different areas. I especially love the unofficial women's area. I really love this gym, they have a lot of things to offer & the staff is so friendly/helpful. They're very informative and love to let you know what's going on. However, I mainly have a membership here just to use the pool. I'm a swimmer and I use the lap swim. I find the pool really in need of some maintenance. I'm not sure what chemicals In-Shape uses to keep the water at level, but when swimming the water is very cloudy & seems off. It makes me worry what my body is soaking in & especially when doing a lot of laps.. dirty water can be a concern to health. As well as there is now limited hours that the pool is available, and not very many lanes open. (The indoor pool only offers 3 lanes for laps) There is a large community of people who use lap swim & sometimes you can be waiting a long time just to use a lane. (The place most people wait is the jacuzzi and it also seems to have dirty/foaming water) I really wish they provided the outdoor pool with heat, as to open up the wait times & offer additional access. Though some people appreciate the aqua classes/kids swimming lessons, it can be inconvenient with a regular workout routine when a pool is not at all accessible for use because of a class. Maybe it would be better for swimmers to use McMurtry early morning lap swim, but then you have no indoor option & can only swim laps during set hours. If I could leave a 1 star I would. Its more fitting for this gym with some of the policies in place, lack of concern for upgrades and the general well being of the member. Omar was great addressing the filthy pool. His concern about the issue spoke volumes. The Gym Manager Marisol on the other hand needs to go! Her lack of understanding or concern about gym repairs, upgrades and the general welfare of the member is clear to anyone that has a conversation with her. Someone really needs to point out to Marisol who pays her salary! After discussing some safety issues with Marisol She tried to make excuses for some of the new policies, without ANY understanding or concerns of any accident that occurs from their policies. I would consider one of the other Inshape gyms before ever going to the Inshape on coffee road, Bakersfield until things change! read more

I had been going to this gym for a few years, and I would highly recommend it before. However, I recently had to cancel my membership because In-shape changed their policy and would no longer provide the special assistance I require to workout. I am quadriplegic. I swim because it is the best exercise for my disability. In-shape was great for that since it has an indoor pool, which allowed me to swim all year round.     I need to have my caregiver and fiance with me to assist me into the pool, and my fiance in the pool to make sure I don't drown while exercising. Before, they had no issue with this and only required a waiver to be signed. Well, when I went last, I was told I can no longer have them assist me. At most, they could help me into the pool and then must return to the lobby. As I said, I am quadriplegic and this would endanger my life. The other option they gave me was to add my fiancée to my membership. But this would have raised my monthly fee up an extra $60. After I said I would need to cancel, they still had me pay for the next month because their policy says there must be a 30-day notice. I paid like they said but I do believe they should have waived that since I had to stop going because of me not being able to use the facility opposed to simply no longer wanting a membership. I decided to just accept my losses. However, today I saw I had another charge from them, despite already paying what was required last month. In addition, I can't even remove my payment information from my profile to make sure I no longer get charged. This is what moved me to share my experience.    Those with disabilities shouldn't have to pay more to get the assistance they require in order to workout. It is very disappointing that In-shape has become this way. If you are a part of the disabled community, I recommend going elsewhere. And if you are not in the disabled community, I advise you to be wary of unnecessary charges. read more

For not having been in a gym for about 5 years InShape was a great recommendation a friend of mine had. This facility has everything you need in a gym. Inshape on Coffee Road is a super clean facility with any type of workout regiment you can think of. From classes to personal training sessions I am motivated every time I go. They have two pools (the inside pool is heated year round) they have two racket ball courts, spin classes, free weights, a millions machines to choose from, a womans ONLY spot to work out and a great motivating personal training staff. A great addition to this InShape facility is the smoothie bar which also include a lot of additional things they offer, before or after a work out. So if your in the Rosedale area or withing running/biking distance this facility is a great addition to your goals that you know need to be set. I have set some high goals and will be working on them as hard as I can. Keep on Yelping! read more

The staff are helpful and friendly despite the tough circumstances. But Bakersfield people are nuts. I'm going to freeze my membership if not cancel. The past 3 times I've tried to workout using the outdoor area I've witnessed multiple people use the equipment and walk away without wiping it down. You'd think that with 1,000 new cases a day people would have a little bit of common sense. But no. There's also some steroid freak who keeps taking off his shirt, and laying all over the benches and THEN refuses to clean up. I don't need to deal with that fool's sweat all over everything. And he was there again today 11-25-20. I've asked the staff to talk to the fool but they won't do it. I guess I could tell him to not be moron and then fight him when he gets mad, but I'm trying to avoid his sweat... not get it all over me. So. Its easier simply not to go anymore. I can workout in the park, and at home, for free. It's not the staff member's fault, they can't police these morons at all times. But it's just not worth getting sick over. read more

I've been a member here for about 5 years. When I signed up, it cost a few more dollars for towel service and the gym was nice...needed a little updating, but nice. Towel service has been subtracted from my membership because you can get your own towels now. A friend and I have been coming more often recently. We've noticed this is not a really clean place. The women's locker room is gross. Wet, dirty floors from pool and showers. Towelettes to clean machines run out and aren't replaced for days. A woman told me there's black mold in the showers, I didn't even want to take a peek. I thought all of the In Shape gyms were supposed to be a caliber above the other gyms in town...at least my monthly membership fees tell me it should me. I know the Ming Ave. gym really is higher caliber and we peons aren't allowed to go. That's fine, but why is this place starting to look so shabby? Is it true this place is moving down a notch to gold level? Whatever that means. Is it true that free towels are being taken away, too? Is it time to cut ties? I'm really sad to have to think about it, but we'll have to see what happens. read more

So the gym is fine. My issue is getting an Email telling me my membership is going up by 25 dollars a month the first of June. I've been a member for 15 years and evidently being a loyal member means nothing to corporate. I talked to the manager who was understanding but was unable to do anything about it. It used to be you take care of your core members, but now they use inflation and and minimum wage as an excuse to gouge members that pay a lower rate. Total BS on their part. read more

Previously went to body xchange but kind of over how crowded it's getting. Decided to give in shape a shot because they opened earlier and I'm glad I did. Sure it's a lot more than I was paying but having a less crowded gym is totally worth it, in my opinion. Not to mention, the workers were very helpful and friendly to me and contributed in my decision to get a membership here. If you are considering joining a gym, don't choose inShape on Coffee Road, I have been a long time member (since before the building was actually built), this location has continued to go down in quality, for the price to join now ($44 month) you can find somewhere much better. Aaron the manager is horrible and worthless. Equipment is often broken and takes a long time to get repaired, the bathrooms are disgusting and often out of toilet paper & paper towels, part of the ceiling fell down several months ago and still hasn't been repaired, they don't offer guest passes and equipment is often missing (such as dumbbells, clips on equipment or even the bar for bench press). If you want a one day pass to try out the gym, it will cost you $20. Here are pictures from just my visit today: bench press bar missing and no where to be found, clips on the cable machines missing, making them useless, bugs throughout the gym and ceiling tiles missing, AND this is after there "re-opening." Find another gym, Body Exchange offers a 7-day free trial, avoid this inShape location. read more
