Went there for Breakfast with family, ordered simply and still the food came over cooked. Hash browns looked like they had scraped them off the bottom of the French fryer, they were like over cooked crunchy bits of French fry. The food wasn't particularly hot and the over easy eggs were barley over easy and closer to half hard. Nobody was there, which should have alerted us that something wasn't right, Only one waitress, and two cars in the parking lot. We tried to go tonight. The waitress told us to seat ourselves and someone will help us in a minute. 20 mins later she came to help a guy across us. Then walked away. The other server walked by us several times with no acknowledgement. After 30 mins we finally walked out and went somewhere else. Last time we went it took over an hour to get our food. I am disappointed how downhill it has gotten. We used to get great service. There is still one waitress that is great but the food still takes forever which is not her fault. read more

So I had the porker burger which my best guess is a frozen patty out of a box because that is what it looked and tasted like. Fries are extra, $2.09, the burger is already almost $9 by itself and it is not even the most expensive one. I guess my real issue is the fact the fries do not come with any of the sandwiches and the pic shows you how many fries you get. Update: My dad tried calling the owner 4 times today 3/31. This last time he called, the lady asked if this was (my dad) and was told that the owner would call my dad back in 3 minutes or so. Over 30 minutes later he's still waiting. He called first thing today when they opened. Went there to eat with family tonight 3/30. Had to wait to get helped. Took forever to get food. Husband asked for a refill on ice tea (manager took cup and never brought refill back). We we're gonna order dessert but after waiting over 10 minutes for the manager (waitress to come back) we said forget it. Husband got charged $2 for a little thing of sour cream that used to come with the actual meal. My mom got charged almost $6.50 for a cup of milk which was only a little over half filled up. Then to top it off they tried charging more than it said in the menu for items. When manager was confronted she had every excuse in the book from she was new to she didn't know the restaurants phone number. Used to like coming here when we come from out of town but after tonight we won't be back. It was horrendous! read more

Very slow service there was a party in the back and it seemed the focus of service was there. The reuben I ordered was like a croton on top and soggy on the bottom. My huband ordered a tenderloin which the bun was soggy. Both were cold only reason we ate was was served was because we were hungry and didnt want to wait for fresh food or go hunting for another place as everywhere else was packed on a Friday night. Carry out order. The lady that took my order over the phone was helpful and polite. Restaurant was not busy when I picked up the order, I asked for ketchup packets to go with my meal (fish sandwich and fries). I've never had to explain/argue about why I needed packets of ketchup to go with my carry out order but eventually I was given 4 packets. Fish sandwich came plain but didn't realize it until I opened it to eat it. My fault for not asking when I placed the order. Although McOttos is a former favorite restaurant in Anamosa now for there Famous Polish skins. Unfortunately I can't find anything positive things to say about the Service. The servers were unoccupied with only five table being used, but still were very in useful and seemed they didn't care much. They would sit around tables and the bar talking and chatting, and I saw one of them on there cell phones. A lot of the times people will appreciate the service more than the food so now I can see why there parking lot wasn't full and hasn't been. The food was also I disappointment. We ordered Polish skin, Brownie delight , and drinks (obviously). The polish skins were okay but not how they used to taste, and the brownie delight couldn't even be described as good, The brownie itself was cold. The only warm part about it was the hot fudge and the only good thing about the brownie delight was the ice cream. The only good thing about the meal were the drinks. Their food maybe complemented by their uncaring service. Would not recommend this restaurant, but do still respect it. read more

On 10 June 2021 my wife, son, grandson, and I went to McOttos for supper. It had been many years since we had dined there, and now we remember why. There was only one other customer in the restaurant when we entered at 1730. Our waitress, a young lady, probably high school age just learning how to work, was rather quick with taking our drink orders and giving us menus. My wife ordered the Mexican Bake, I the Taco Salad, my son the BBQ burger and my grandson the melt. Our waitress asked if we wanted the sour cream and salsa with our Mexican Bake and Taco Salad. Of course, they are staples of that dish. My grandson said the chocolate milk was good, but my tea was not as good as the milk. Despite the scarcity of customers in the diner, there was an extended wait for our order to arrive at the table. When our dinner arrived after an extended wait, the burgers were smaller than the bun, the lettuce in the taco salad was bagged, wet shredded versus torn, had no Jalapenos, and the Mexican bake plentiful. When the bill arrived it was $57.00 and change. The bill prices on our taco salad and Mexican Bake exceeded the menu prices, and the drinks were $2.79 each. When we inquired of our waitress why there was a three dollar plus discrepancy, she wasn't sure. She informed us the the sour cream and salsa was 60 cents each extra, she thought, bit wasn't sure. In fact they are 85 cents each, and there is no mention of it on the menu. There is a foot note that fries are extra with sandwiches. After this experience wee shall not return to Mc'Ottos, even though it is a local dining establishment. Their prices are obscene, the flavor of the food is lacking, the kitchen is very slow, and the menus hide important information from the reader. read more

They were open for breakfast and it was wonderful! We like to eat local when we travel, so this was perfect. Food was all good. My husband's made to order omelet was very flavorful. My bacon was crispy and cooked just right. The pancakes were homemade and a little crispy on the edges. And the coffee was mild and hot (and in a pot on the table with free refills). I had lunch there today and was very disappointed. All I ordered was a soup / salad / unlimited breadsticks combo. I got the cup of soup and minuscule salad. The waitress yelled "That's not very much salad" as she got my food from the kitchen... and it sure wasn't. After dropping off my food, I realized the waitress had not brought a soup spoon. By the time I could get a spoon and eat the soup, it was cold! The "salad" was a few iceberg lettuce leaves and two big chunks of tomato - pretty unappetizing. The small cup of dressing was way more than was needed for a few small lettuce leaves. The breadsticks never arrived until I said something and even then the waitress didn't think they came with the meal. Then she blamed the cook. I finally got two bland, crunchy breadsticks well after I'd eaten the meal. Then came the bill... What a shock! For a tiny salad (smaller than a McDonald's side salad), a small cup of soup, and a diet Coke, I was charged $16.55! I said it can't be right and the waitress made up various excuses -- obviously none of them being valid. A manager corrected my order and gave me a puny 10% discount for the crappiest meal and worst service I've had in years. Tiny food and an uncaring waitress? I gave them 1 star, no tip, and I won't be back. I should have listened to more of the locals. read more

My family and I went to McOtto's for dinner on a Sunday night. We have been there before and have had decent meals and service. Unfortunately or last experience was terrible. We waited over and hour for our food...which mostly consisted of salads and sandwiches....pretty simple things. When we finally did get our food it was brought out one plate at a time with 5-10 minutes in between. Our daughter was the last to get her meal...a simple chicken fingers and fries. What made the meal end was when we cut into our daughters chicken...it was raw. Had I not asked them to remove the undercooked food from our ticket we would have had to pay for that. Our waitress was trying to do a good job. Seemed like poor management to me. They serve happy joes pizza at the restaurant. Everyone who ordered pizza seemed to get their meal first....I guess that is what people should order. read more

Clean dining area, friendly staff, food was a little pricey for what it is. We were pleased the waitress suggested a larger pizza than we originally ordered. Warning short draft bud light comes in a slim glass. It held just over 6 oz and cost 3.95. It was more expensive than a bottle of bud light. Not sure if it was a bartender error on glass size but the excuse was shrugged shoulders and "the owner probably pays more for draft beer". We were returning to our hotel after a nice day of touring parts of IA and needed food. We pulled off the highway and just happened to notice this place. We like eating at local places and this fit the bill. Please note that it was 2 PM, so no where near lunch or dinner. The interior is comfortable. In fact, it's an exact copy of every Applebee's I've ever entered...with less stuff on the walls. I can only assume this used to be an Applebee's. Staff: there was only one waitress on duty, which wasn't an issue given the time of day. She kept our orders straight and was attentive. She just had very little personality. She kept straight to business with us and all the other customers...it was't rude, but it was friendly either. Food: my girlfriend ordered a salad with grilled chicken, which she loved. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with fries, which impressed me. The burger tasted as if it had come off my own grill and the bacon was perfectly cooked. The fries were great! We would be willing to go back again based on the food alone. read more

We had a Taco Pizza and a Cheese Pizza for takeout today. Mcotto's use to carry Happy Joes menu but now it appears they have decreased the quality of their pizza but still charge like they are providing a good product. The pizzas we had are the worst pizzas we have ever purchased, the sauce has no flavor, the toppings are sparse, the cheese pizza with supposed extra cheese applied barely covered the crust. If they are going to provided this poor of a product they should stop selling pizza. read more

I called and ordered 2 large pizzas, for supper. I started talking to one employee about a special and she got the price mixed up someone else got on the phone. I asked for a taco supreme (black olives, refried beans and sour cream) the good kind. I also ordered a large cheese. We got an order of cinnamon sticks and a 2 liter. The delivery was made in a decent amount of time, the delivery person was nice. Got the pizza inside and served the kids. They didnt like the taste of the sauce, cheese was moreless burnt the pizza was tough!!! The taxi was disgusting. I called and told them I ordered a Taco supreme the girl who answered put me on hold to talk to the manager. I was on hold almost 5 minutes( I get they were probably busy) then another person answered I started to tell her what the deal was she said oh sorry hold on and put me on hold the manager picked up. I started what my issue was he said I'm the one who took your order you ordered a regular taco I said no I said I wanted a taco supreme. Manager said he repeated the order (which he may have) I was not happy with the taco it had a funky taste to it ! MY kids will normally devour pizza, nope not tonight!! The hotel recommended I call for delivery this past weekend in Anamosa. I did and they took well over 1 hour 45 min, after I called again, to deliver the food and it was horrible. Soggy fries, no seasoning or catsup for onion rings and fries, and burger was soggy. Never order here. Awful! read more

The delivery person was nice. Got the pizza inside started feeding the kids. The cheese pizza looked almost burnt it was tough, the kids didnt like it. The taco was a regular taco that was nasty!! The worst 55 dollars I've spent. When I called to talk to them I was on hold the manager who took my order said I ordered a regular taco i said no I asked for supreme he said for the future the ones with sour cream and all are their taco plus!! Today we went to dinner at McOtto's and I ordered the Polish skins, combo basket, and a special burger that my partner concocted. The waitress was super friendly and flexible about the odd order. The food came out fairly quickly (within 20 minutes) and everything was correct. The only complaint I had about the night was that we didn't get our drinks refilled very often and the fries tasted off. It is why I am giving them a 4 out of 5 instead of a 5 out of 5. read more

It's your typical, Standard American restaurant. The service was very down to earth and friendly and the food overall tasty. The restaurant is very casual and laid back. The steak with mash potatoes was tasty, as well as the chicken cordon bleu. I didn't like the coleslaw as much and the bread was a bit hard. But other than that, the food was reasonable and great! We went last night and spent alot of money for little food. $42.00 We ordered tenderloins and had to pay $1.85 for a side of fries, drinks not included. I ordered a to go meal and the chicken breast were tiny and the rice pilaf that went with it was about 2 Tablespoons worth and we never did receive the side salad we paid for. Generic ketchup and a bun that doesn't cover a 1/3 of the tenderloin to make it look bigger. Staff is very friendly cheap owners. read more
