Not sure about this place. One time order of Lasagna was so over baked, it was too tough to eat. Called the restaurant and yes they gave me a $10 credit. Third time I spent $35 & ordered Lasagna & an order of 3 meatballs. I loved their sauce until now. Don't think I will be ordering anymore from there. Found a 6" gray hair in the meatballs & it wasn't mine because I have really short hair. Now I'm afraid to finish the Lasagna because I think the same sauce is used in both. read more

Let me start by saying we liked Via Sofia's in the past although we did not dine there every month, more like every 2 months. But this Valantine Family feast we ordered was not good. Something has changed because of inflation and the time's or it was just a bad day. The Spaghetti was not good and the meat sauce we normally love seemed watered down. The Gondola had the thinnest meat you could cut and the cheese the same and hardly no lettuce. I use to want seconds but this was all bread and no taste. Finally, the garlic bread.....lacked butter and garlic flavor. I don't write this review with bitterness; I really feel it's the sign of the time's but I could be wrong maybe they have changed hands or something else was going on. But needless to say it will be the last time we get "take out" there again. read more

We visited today and enjoyed the affordable lunch menu options. The gyro I had was spot on and reminded me of my visits to the county fair -- a nice reminder on a cold, bleak day. Though quite basic, my husband and son enjoyed the pizza sandwich they shared. The ambiance of the restaurant was heightened by the nice murals and painted tabletops. Overall, Via Sofia's reminded me of the Italian restaurants in my hometown in Northeast Ohio, which boasts a large Italian-American population. I was pleased to find a taste of home here in Iowa! After reading other reviews here on Yelp, I can't wait to visit again and order some garlic bread! read more

I think I just found my new favorite that's right! Even better then there cheese bread? Hmm that's up for debut yet but I just had a ham and cheese sub from here and wow it was so so good! The only bread they have is there Zio bread which is homemade and fresh! I don't know what it is about that bread but to me it is amazing! The bread was warm and there was a spread of butter on the bread and plenty of meat the ham was really good and the cheese was melting to perfection but the time I was finished! Ahhhh so good! And the cheese bread yeah it's still great I love getting one full order and sometimes get two full orders so I can warm it up later with another meal! The paintings on the wall our great the inside of the center point rd is not there biggest location but it has a nice feel to it, almost like your in a big city and found a great eatery! read more

I ordered a calzone for delivery, and a full gondola sub. Gondola is great. The calzone is crispy on the outside and raw dough on the inside. No marinara dipping sauce. Wheres the cheese? Skimpy on the meat ingredients. For 16$ for just the calzone.. I probably will never order again... huge dissapointment with the calzone. read more

My regular Zio Johno's used to be the one on 1st and 35th... sadly it is gone now =(. I haven't really explored the menu because to be honest, I am hooked on their spaghetti with meat sauce. There is something about their sauce... it is a little spicy, a little sweet, a little smoky... I think they put crack in it because I really cannot get enough. And on top of that... the Gondola. It goes against everything I know... cheese (you know the Kraft-out-of-a-plastic-wrapper kind), ham, salami, and lettuce. And for some reason it works. The bread is also awesome. Really their food is comfort food. Good for a stay-in-and-pig-out sort of night. read more

I was in town for business, and this place was on the list I got from the front desk of the hotels I was staying at of places that delivered there. I ordered a meatball sub and side salad with the Italian dressing. While very large, the meatball sub made me want to gag, and left me with an upset stomach. The meatballs were very dense and dry, and the meat itself was unappetizing. The melted cheese had hardened to a semi-translucent leathery layer. The only reason I finished eating this was out of hunger. The side salad was fresh enough, but essentially just lettuce. The Italian dressing might as well have been Kraft Wishbone dressing. I have been eating a raw food diet for several years and lately went back to eating gluten and occasional dairy because I have to taste foods for a class I am in. I went here on a Sunday in September 2013 and picked up a carry out of a half gallon of cheese ravioli in marinara sauce and garlic bread. When I ordered the kid did not know what some of the menu items were so he must have been new. He had to ask someone else. he forgot to ask what sauce I wanted and I had forgotten to tell him. He did call me back to ask after I placed my order. I thanked him for that. I was highly disappointed after ordering their food all the time when my kids were younger and not having eaten it in a few years, I find the quality has gone very far down hill. The garlic bread was burnt black with little if any garlic flavor. It looked yellow in spots like it had butter, but I could not even taste that or the taste of their wonderful bread, only burnt taste. yuk! The marinara sauce was super salty. I thought it was just me at first, but my daughter had some and she has eaten their food more recently and agreed that it was way over-salted. Not worth blowing your diet for, that is for sure. After missing their great food for years, I was so disappointed. I won't be ordering from this location for a long time if at all. I am sure some of their other locations still have good food, just not the one that delivers to my house. read more

Some times this place is really good and sometimes not. Tonight was a not night. I ordered a family feast for carry out. I asked that they put extra garlic butter on FRESH bread and not make it too browned. They must have thought I said to use the STALEST, DRIED OUT bread they could find and BURN it! This is never a problem when dining in. They must figure they can scam the people getting carry out by giving them the rejects because no one wants to drive back after they get home and discover the nasty bread. From now on we will be inspecting the bread BEFORE leaving the restaurant. read more

We placed an online order on October 3rd , minutes later Elizabeth called from the restaurant informing me that what I ordered was not available. I asked her to cancel the order and refund my credit card. She failed to do this. Days later the transaction went from pending to posted. I had to report this to my credit card company to dispute the charge! First, why have something on your menu that you are out of, why can't they make more? Secondly, have trained staff that know how to refund charges, when I asked for a manager, she stated she could take a message and have someone call me back at about 9 pm! Ridiculous! read more

We were very disappointed with the customer service and the food. The employee that took our order was very rude and short with us and offered no help as it was clear that we had never been there. The food was lukewarm and served on plates that were so small it was hard to keep the food on the plate. Very disappointing and will not be coming back. I've ordered the fried portobellos twice at here and have gotten plain fried buttons instead when I told the guy that brought them that it wasn't what I ordered I was told that that was the only mushrooms the serve even though the menu lists a completely different description which is is what I have gotten at a different location. read more

Dec. 2014 Update - prices have gone up sharply since this review was written. The spaghetti lunch is now $6.41. Still a nice lunch spot, but the price/value is not what it was. Old review- I eat out at lunch fairly often and try to keep costs low. Zio's is a great value at lunch -a fairly large plate of spaghetti, 8 small pieces of garlic bread, and a large soda for $4.91 after tax. The noodles have always been cooked well, and the sauce has been consistent. There have been a few times the bread has been stale which is why I'm deducting a star. The sauce is okay and will not leave anyone complaining. It's at least better than any sauce which could be bought in a jar at Hy-Vee. You can request the sauce without meat, which has a little more garlic and bigger tomato pieces. Both with and without meat are good. Amongst the other lunch menu items, the Ravioli isn't enough food and costs more than the spaghetti. The sandwich bread is slightly sweet and tasty, but the only sandwichs I tried (gondola and meatball) lacked the veggies & sauces to make it worth recommending. The Gyro is probably the second best item after spaghetti, but the sauce will make your hands messy while eating. Watch out for the parking lot, it's kind of a free for all without good striping. I've seen cars parked perpendicular and horizontal to the store on different days. If you can't tell where a row is supposed to start, just be brave! read more

How can you go wrong with Zio's? The food was fabulous! Don't miss the garlic bread, or garlic bread with cheese...either way it's the best bread you've ever tasted! The fountain pop is a bit odd tasting, so if your picky about that just get water. The main course sandwiches are terrific...hand made! I love this location the best out of all of them. The manger there is so sweet and makes me feel right at home everytime I go there. I love the garlic bread and chef salad. The meat sauce is also amazing. My mother moved to Washington state and talks about how much she misses their food. I must try for anyone who lives pasta and bread. read more
