This establishment does not catalog items or have any inventory systems in place. I dropped off two bags of beautiful cloths in good shape. It took them weeks to get back to me. I walked into the store and found many of my items on the floor so items were sold. An abomination of a business that basically steals from you. No records and no idea what was purchased. This is a frustrating experience. Their website offers drop off for consignment items. however, when I tried to drop off, they do not take on weekends. so I came back during the week and they then told me that they have a two week back log. it is not easy to work with this store. read more

The store is under NEW OWNERSHIP, although the name remains the same. The place is packed with TONS of merchandise with a HUGE selection of designer items as well as vintage furs. Some good values to be had on close out sale as low as $3! I recommended an email blast or new signage for the change because it really is a new vibe and has some killer stuff. I'm not a digger, a rooter, or a seeker so this place definitely tries my patience. If I find a label that fits me well I prefer the clothes come to me (read: buy online), rather than me to them. However, I've scored some great finds at both McShane's locations and consequently attempt to deal. There are two McShane's only a few blocks from each other, but I prefer this one, at least for non-clearance items. Both remind me a little bit of a hoarder's paradise; funky, odd-shaped spaces with clothes, shoes, and accessories crammed in every available crevice. Just when you think you've seen it all, you realize there's a stairwell or basket or shelf you completely overlooked. Despite the smaller overall space and smaller clearance section I prefer the Webster location, not just because it's closer to my house and I'm a lazy git, but because it is better organized. Most items are in the right area, on Armitage I feel like pulling an XXS from the Medium rack is just as likely as pulling a Medium. It makes searching for that great score that much harder. Service is hands off, both stores get a good amount of foot traffic so they more or less let your browse, or come to them if you need something. They color code the tags so pay attention, the price on the tag may be the price before discount. McShane's isn't the cheapest, but you will find a lot of higher-end, higher quality items and they don't smell like old ladies and mothballs either. I've got the pants, shoes, shirts and sweaters to prove it. Of course it can be hit or miss, but what store isn't. TIP: I noticed a sign about layaway options last time I was in, it could allow you to get that perfect something you otherwise couldn't swing. During my first visit to McShane's Exchange, I was very surprised and pleased with the selection they had to offer. I found quite a few high-end footwear item and left very satisfied with my purchase. Assisted by Emmy she was kind and super helpful. I stopped by this past weekend 10/15/2022 to find out this business has closed. No Call, No Notice. I dropped off several items to consign here later this past spring, (many designers) and found that they are gone. When I stopped by this summer the owner stated that none of my items sold. NO dollar$ either. Now it makes sense why...you closed shop with my stuff. I could have found another outlet for my used items which should be rightfully returned to the owner. I am a consignee. I have had nothing but negative interactions with the owner. I only want my merchandise back. And now i have to go through every item in the store as they have no systems at all. No system in which to pay you. No system to give you back your merchandise. And no help. If i could give them a negative number review i would do so. As an update to my initial review, the owner did reach out. She was very kind and apologized for the confusion. I received payment for the items sold. I recognized her initial difficulties as a new business owner during Covid including challenges in maintaining staff. I have to admit that her new staff was exceptionally nice at my last visit. A personal call from a business (that wishes to make things right) speaks volumes. I will return to consign with McShanes this Spring. read more

There's a lot going on here... but at the same time... not really a lot going on here. Racks and racks of clothes, but precious few I'd want to try on. One reason for my lack of desire to try things on were the prices. Um, this stuff is second-hand, no? Second-hand AND - from the looks of it - past its peak in terms of trendiness. Hmmm. I came in looking for a cocktail dress. There were some in the front, but mostly high-end names (Oscar de la Renta) and thus a little more than I'm willing to pay to play dress-up for a party. I asked the staff if there were more elsewhere, and was told there were some "in the back". Yeah, there weren't. Oh well. The purse selection, however, saved this trip from being a total waste. I got a nice new wallet (still had the tags on!) for a price more befitting a second-hand store. read more

I've been both a shopper and consignor for years -- since they had the second location on Webster. I would agree with all reviewers it's a quirky but good place to find decently price designer merchandise. I too have had the snobby treatment when dressed casually on a Saturday afternoon. But today takes the cake. I dropped off a couple bags of spring items -- good mid-range designers, excellent condition, many with tags still on and in season. I get a text from Sarah saying my clothes are unacceptable and please come pick them up. I did but the gentleman/owner was behind the counter so he couldn't answer my questions. So I texted Sarah back asking why the rejection when clothes met their criteria. She said I needed 8-10 high end items to start a contract. What?? I've been a client for years I asked. And I wanted some clarification. After several short and full of tone texts saying she was out of town, not in the store, they are overstocked and don't need my items anyway, she said this is her personal phone and don't contact her anymore. Yet SHE sent me the first text from this number! No acknowledgement that a miscommunication happened. No I will check tomorrow and get back to you long time client. No matter how much I love to find steals, McShane's has lost my trust, respect and business. Poor customer service, snarky responses and lack of common courtesy. read more

I dropped my items off at McShanes in springtime. They said it would be a week or so to look at the items and put a list together but took my email and contact info for a consignment agreement. Never received the agreement until after I had to call asking for it. I signed the same day and returned to them. Never confirmed. No list of my items. No sale. No money. All of my items taken for McShanes to sell without any communication, not paying for any merchandise nor returned or told if they could not sell. I consign with other establishments, always sell items and have been told my items are of excellent condition and quality. Disgusting a company business is built of taking goods without paying to sell for profit. I would have donated the items to charity had I been aware of unethical practices. I will never use them again but will continue to use Galore Consignment and North Shore Exchange both of where I have sold many items. Both professional and have easy procedures to work with. I head right upstairs to the bargain floor. I almost always find something there. Today I found a really cute, never worn, tags still on it, dressy Ann Taylor tank top for $7. I'm really grateful to the woman about my size who buys lots of Ann Taylor clothes and recycles them quickly. I feel like I'm following her around, benefitting from what she discards. I just don't understand how I could have gone this long without reviewing McShane's. An oversight I'm fixing now: McShane's is great for finding high end shoes, clothes, purses and accessories (with some not-so high end thrown in). You can find brands like Prada and Costume National, as well as Ann Taylor and Old Navy. Prices can be good, and you can always wait to see if they get better. But I wouldn't wait too long--I missed out on a pair of lovely suede Coach boots last winter. :( Only go if you've got the time to browse. You need patience to shop at McShane's. It's jam-packed. Also, if you're planning to sell your stuff here, check out their consignment policy--you have to have so many pieces before they will take your used goods. read more

Don't bother going in with your high end pieces to consign. I have never been so rudely treated. The clothes I brought in to consign were as good or better than most of what they had. But the worst part of my experience was how rude the woman was. I would never go there again and plan to tell everyone to bypass them. read more

When I was younger I visited the store many times with my mom but never truly appreciated the clothes that were there. Well, today, after not being in the store for a few years I know understand why my mom always dragged me along with her. While it is true about some reviews that the prices aren't that appealing they do have an entire second floor that has adorable clearance prices. The first floor is full of neat finds but of course you have to find them, although it is really organized and I had no problem walking through the store-I didn't knock one thing off a rack. I found a Ralph Lauren black label brown beaten slim fit leather jacket for 50 dollars! Many people complain about the prices because it's not the 5 dollar knock off but, come on, $50!! Currently in love with the store the woman who assisted me, unfortunately I didn't get her name but she was adorable. The store contains all women clothing, handbags, shoes, and accessories. I have been coming here from wisconsin for over 10 years. I have always appreciated the selection and pricing with great values. I was just there 2 weeks ago and was very sad to see the disarray and confusion in the shop. Chuck and his wife did an amazing job over the years and I was very disappointed. I am sincerely hoping the new owner improves the layout of the store and brings back some of the charm chuck had. It was also absolutely freezing in the place. Right off the bat the woman working there was snotty and rude. "Hello so you are not on file as a customer?" No. "Well we only accept contracts if you bring 8-10 pieces in". Well I have 6.
