This was the absolute coolest store we went to in Chicago. Helen was so kind and helpful. There were multiple customers in the store and she made us feel like we were the only ones there. This shop was recommended to us by our waiter during brunch. I just HAD to stop by since it was only a 5 minute walk. As soon as you enter the store you are welcomed with the best energy. The atmosphere is so peaceful & literally feels like you entered a whole other world. The shop is not huge but it is absolutely perfect when not too busy. So I came to Chicago on business and I've met some wonderful, deeply spiritual people along the way. As a gesture of affection I wanted to get them a little something, if at all to say thank you for making my stay lightweight and filled with sunshine. I was aware of Alchemy Arts as I have purchased from them for almost 15 years), but I was also looking for a store that like Namaste in New York sold mainly and only stones of all shapes and sizes. A Google search turned up Precious Possessions and on the Loop to boot! I thought, why not? I can literally walk to it from my hotel, look around, get what I need, and hopefully not get lost among the crystals as I tend to be when I go to Namaste (although in Namaste's defense, it offers a much wider variety of items, a hybrid of Alchemy Arts, Tibetan store, and basically anything and everything for the spiritually minded). Reader, the store is a small rectangle sandwiches between 20 and 30 Michigan Ave in front of Millenium Park. It is so unassuming you will walk right past it. Had it not been for a kind gentleman and lady I would have missed it as I thought it was located inside 20 Michigan, as a store inside a mall. So I walk in front of it and took a shot at their window: an enormous globe that cpuld only be of quartz greeted me, but I wasn't looking for it, so I focused on the smaller tumbled stones that once you walk in are on the left side near the entrance. Knowing my way around the types of stones for a pouch I collected a few (clear quartz, rose, amethyst, and two lovely hot pink agates that just said "Take meeeee and take my ultraviolet version!" Which I did.) A slight frown on the overall experience was the price label on these stones which I have found in the middle of the ultra pricey New York City or San Francisco for half if not a fifth of the price. Can we say overpriced? Tumbled stones normally cost in the vicinity of 2-4$ depending on type. A clear quartz usually goes for about $2-2.50; less if you go to a place like Rockstarr which is more like a stone outlet. Same price range goes for rose quartz, the fanciest of places will offer them maybe upwards of about 4$. Reader, the clears were a whopping 12$ as were the rose quartz; the tiny ones--merely pebbles and fragments, 4.50$. I can only imagine what the other larger crystals cost. But... I will assume you are paying for location more than stone. Go, but caveat emptor, the store is $$$. read more

When I was a young lass of a ripe 9 years; I learned about fossils from my third grade teacher. I went outside declaring, "I will find a fossil!". Guess what? I did. A small stone with a tiny shell imprint which almost three decades later... I still own. It was at that moment that I realized my soul connection to rocks, gems, mountains, and the earth. Precious Possessions is located on Michigan Avenue near the heart of The Loop across from Millennium Park. This means parking in the area can be a nightmare but I was visiting from Los Angeles and my boyfriend is a regular at this little shop. I arrived near closing time -- literally minutes before-- and yet was not made to feel like an inconvenience. In fact, I was welcomed by two staff members who smilingly said to let them know if I need help rather than mentioning that they are about to close. Excellent customer service! The shop itself, in terms of real estate, is a long rectangle that may not be big in square footage but packs a lot onto its shelves. From stones, gems, crystals, to vintage and rare jewelry, collectibles, decor, minerals, and fossils... Precious Possessions has a little bit of everything. If you are seeking something 'stand-out' that isn't a sheep-in-the-herd piece; then you will probably find it at Precious Possessions. Quality is clearly a priority at Precious Possessions. Not only are the pieces for sale beautiful... but the store doesn't skimp on the appearance and state of the goods. This place is a great option for gift-giving. My only complaint? Precious Possessions is a bit too pricey. I know equally-valued stores that are less expensive. This is coming from a gal who lives in the most expensive city in the nation (Los Angeles)! Overall, Precious Possessions is a solid spot to find rock-related products in an environment that thrives on customer service. I found this magical store earlier this month on one of my weekend trips to Chicago. Helen was so delightful & welcoming, she acknowledged and welcomed each patron and really made herself available. I browsed most of the store to get a feeling of what called to me. As I browsed the many tall shelving sections, one full of larger crystals & stones gave off a strong vibrational energy to me, so much do that I could see the energy. Magnificent feeling & I shared that with her. Helen assisted me in choosing a Kunzite crystal from her wonderful collection. My husband and I enjoy collecting minerals and fossils, and while we were in Chicago we decided to check this place out. The owners are extremely knowledgeable and attentive without being pushy. My husband purchased a mineral and I purchased a gemstone. They offer custom settings for their gems as well to be made into jewelry. We loved our visit to this shop. They had everything from small minerals to extremely rare specimens, all of which they happily showed us purely because they were proud of their shop. I came upon this "hidden gem" (pun intended) when I was working at an office in the same building a couple of years ago. I loved coming down to this shop on my lunch breaks to look at all the beautiful rocks and chat with the lovely owner. Fantastic store, even better staff! I came in looking for a few tumbled healing stones, they offer a buy one get TWO free deal which was awesome. When I got my stones the staff lady asked if I'd like to know more about the ones I choose (if I had the time of course) she told me more which was super helpful and after we chatted she said she liked me and gave me a free stone and a hug--I could not believe such kindness-- I shed a tear after I left. This is so rare in Chicago... I see all great reviews but I had a totally different experience. I shopped here back in 2014 and bought a pair of medium sized disk shaped earrings. The store associate was very pushy and kept showing things after things. Finally, I decided to go with the earrings because most other designs look very backdated. He charged me $92 for a pair of silver earrings with a tiny garnet on each. Not sure if I received a fair price. Recently, I have noticed the color of the silver getting dark. The associate was telling me the more I buy, the more discount percentage I would get. I wanted to return them but I am not from Chicago area and bought these awful earrings on a business trip so eventually ended up keeping them. read more
