Shayla, our host, texted us ahead of time to make sure we were all set for a smooth check-in. That small gesture alone made us feel genuinely cared for. Each day, Shayla prepared the most delicious homemade baked goods, which made us feel like we were at a home away from home. Since we planned to head to Glacier National Park early each day, she kindly packed to-go breakfasts for us--always thoughtful, fresh, and satisfying. On the mornings we stayed in, she served beautiful homemade breakfasts that were just as delicious. The extra touches throughout the lodge made our stay even more special--the self-serve charcuterie, fresh fruit, and beverages were such a nice bonus. The lodge itself was peaceful and quiet, which we really appreciated. We stayed for five nights and can confidently say this was one of our favorite places we've ever stayed. Every morning we were given an explanation on what we were eating. Game room and full kitchen for guest to cook if they wanted to. We traveled from Jackson hole, Yellowstone and onto to Glacier. For example, we arrived late one evening from Glacier Park, around 9:00 pm, and I was planning to make some spaghetti for a later dinner for my two kids. When I looked for a pot to boil the noodles, however, I couldn't find one, and then I saw the sign by the phone in the cabin that read "If you need anything," to call their service number. When I called the number, there was no answer, and since I had stayed at the Great Bear Inn before, I walked over to the main building, which was always open for guests, to find someone to help. When I found the place quiet and the manager's office closed, however, I went into the public kitchen area and took a pot, walked back to my cabin, and made the spaghetti. After my family ate the food, I washed and cleaned the pot and returned it to the kitchen. The following day I called the landlady, named "Bunny," and asked what I needed to do to check out the following day. When she asked me why I had called the previous night, I explained I needed to borrow a pot to cook spaghetti, but after I tried calling and then walked over to the office and found no one to help, I borrowed one from the public kitchen area, used it to boil the noodles, and after eating, I had cleaned the pot and promptly returned it to the kitchen. Bunny was irate and scolded me for doing this, insinuating that I had broken some sort of unpublished rule that the kitchen was off limits to guests. When I objected and said that I had both called and walked to the office for help, she was became rude to me, saying that she had an early bedtime schedule and could not be bothered after 9:00 pm. When I expressed my dissatisfaction at this blatant disregard of the customer's need, she became hostile, and when I told her that I had paid over $1500 to stay in the supposedly furnished cabin for three nights and therefore had a reasonable expectation to have the place furnished as was stated in the advertisement. When Bunny insisted that the pot I had needed was included in the kitchen area, I looked once again and finally found it -- but it was stored behind a wooden panel that was stuck due to poor maintenance of the property. When I explained this to her she was entirely unsympathetic and cold toward me... I have no ill-will toward Bunny and her husband Larry who manage the new version of the "Great Bear Inn." I had stayed at the resort twice before in previous years and under the former management my experience then was happy and the service was excellent. However I can no longer recommend the Great Bear Inn because the new management apparently has no idea of what decent customer service means. Let me close by saying that on the day of our departure, Larry, the husband of Bunny, aggressively came to the cabin and pounded on the door telling us to get out because it was almost 11:00 AM. At the time I was washing dishes we used there because there was a sign posted that said that all residents must wash the dishes before leaving, but Larry told me to just forget it and get out... He and Bunny then sat in their noisy ATV jeep in front of cabin until we finished packing the car and we drove off.... Disgraceful and childish behavior, to say the least, and I will NEVER stay at the Great Bear Inn again. For these and other reasons, not the least being the $500 per night price for staying there, I EMPHATICALLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THE GREAT BEAR INN.

The indoor pool was heated and the decking provided a beautiful view of the lake and surrounding acreage. Drew recently renovated a cabin right on the lake and we were not able to stay since the renovations were not complete. But we did tour the cabin and it is stunning. The deck is 15 feet off the lake and you will not be disappointed .

We took the extra, separate small alcove bedroom for one of the kids and had an air mattress brought in for the second one. The BB is set on a southwest bay of Flathead Lake. It is a gorgeous house with an indoor swimming pool, two large decks, and down the hill is a dock. They have kayaks and a paddleboat that is available to guests. We swam and boated and hung out on the dock amid the surrounding mountains. Heavenly. The breakfasts were all large, delicious, and varied. We enjoyed chatting with all the other guests around the shared table. I would definitely return to Flathead Lake and to Swan Hill BB.

Brian (part of the staff) greeted us on Day 1, and he was there just about all of the time. He was extremely, extremely helpful. And extremely, extremely nice. Service like this goes a long way. Some special notes which made this place way, way above your typical hotel stay (as compared to mainstream brands like Hilton or Marriot).. The room(s) were impeccable with detail. Everything from the chairs outside of the rooms, the towels, folding the beds/pillows etc... You could tell they put a custom touch on. The breakfast was nothing short of delicious staring with the coffee, which was excellent quality coffee. Not farmer bros or max house, this stuff was top tier. (I am a coffee snob and do strictly pour overs only at home). Breakfast burritos were delicious. And the huckleberry jam and bread was excellent. You get a REAL breakfast here. Great location, you can walk down the hill, there is a nice place to eat nearby (Belton chalet). It is very peaceful. The air is so clean you can smell it. 100% highest and strongest endorsement.

It is close to the West park entrance. Best of all is how Brian runs this lodge, from attention to detail of amenities, cleanliness, yummy breakfast burritos and yogurt bowls for breakfast. Our bag lunch we ordered and Brian made was so nice to have on our day drive the next day. This place is quaint, quiet and so nice to come back to after an adventurous day. We stayed in room #5 on the 1st floor. We loved it. Yet after all those years and all those travels, I can honestly say I have never stayed at an inn that made me feel quite as welcomed, cared for and completely spoiled as Garden Wall Inn in Whitefish, Montana. The inn itself is beautiful - elegant while remaining cozy and welcoming, intimate, impeccably appointed and filled with all the details that make a place feel truly special. But what sets Garden Wall Inn apart is something much harder to describe and even harder to find: the extraordinary care behind absolutely everything. Nothing feels routine. My glass of wine was beautifully presented on a silver tray. There is a wonderful selection of pillows, excellent lighting, lovely linens and chocolates waiting at bedtime. Beautiful china and silver turn breakfast into an occasion. And those breakfasts! Local fruits and yogurts, the owners incredible baking and one delicious surprise after another, all beautifully prepared and presented. I may have come home a pound or two heavier, but every single ounce was worth it! Even our departure was made special. We were given fabulous travel breakfasts in beautiful bags, complete with personal notes signed by our hosts. It was such a small and gracious gesture, yet it perfectly captured what makes Garden Wall Inn so extraordinary: they think of the things you would never think to ask for. The Old Wagon Wheel house is a magical vacation spot. Linda and Ted have created an environment…read morethat is peaceful, cozy and pristine. The level of thought that they've put into making their guests feel comfortable is exceptional. They provide everything from bear spray to hiking guide books to laundry service. The skin care products and candles provided in the room are all organic and of the highest quality and make the place smell divine. Linda called before my arrival date to learn about my dietary preferences. She surprises guests with different types of baked goods every day, which sweetens the experience of staying here both literally and figuratively. The room is very private with a separate entrance. Decorations are detailed, unique, and western, and the ambiance reminded me of my childhood, which was very heartwarming. Lastly, there are two riding horses on the property, and they are playful, gentle and totally enhance the experience. This vacation spot provides the ultimate experience of nature and tranquility. Highly, highly recommend it.

The bed is wonderful, everything you need is included and Linda makes sure you have a clean cabin to come home to each night. The service is unbelievable. They truly treat you like family. It's a bit of a drive from the town of Whitefish, but it's the perfect distance. It's also located very close to beautiful lakes and hiking trails. It's a short drive to Glacier, which is perfect because you are able to get away from the crowds. Love, love, love this home.
