Good neighborhood coffee place. You get the sense everyone knows each other. It's a little tricky to get to, in a strip mall and it has a bit of a hippie vibe, but that's not a bad thing. The cold brew is my favorite but the lattes are good too (they can be a little sweet, so I get mine with half the syrup). I hear good things about the food but I've only had pastries - which did not disappoint. Killer music on a regular basis. Friendly staff and patrons, from my experience. It's more a social gathering place than a good "get work/study done" place. They also feature local artists and musicians, which is cool and keeps the decor new. One small note - usually when coffee places have a punch-card loyalty program, you get a free drink when it's full. Meadowlark, you only get a punch for espresso drinks, not coffee, and when it's full, you only get $3 off instead of an actual free drink (even a small). After our ok food experience nearby, decided stop here for coffee drinks. Lady attending offered to cut about 12 honey packets for me, which was appreciated. Apparently not a lot of honey requests to justify a bottle out front. They have a bottle of the good stuff in kitchen but not supposed let customers use. I confess I've been ignoring Meadowlark for years, assuming that it's more loved for its vibe and ways of drawing community than for its great coffee. Stopped in this morning and I stand corrected. After being closed for a couple months this winter due to a tax issue, Meadowlark is open again under new ownership. According to the Lincoln Journal Star, the new owner was a former regular, so it appears that Meadowlark has retained its character and employees. With the exception of less paper in the front windows, walking in you can't tell that it had ever closed. They have a large selection of brewed coffees available every day, and a distinct selection of espresso drinks. There is frequently live music in the evenings, and a variety of seating options. It's great for solo trips, as well as small and large gatherings. I live several blocks from here, and definitely appreciate having them back open. When it was closed, there was no high quality coffee options in the Near South neighborhood. As someone who is passionate about my neighborhood, I am very excited that this community gathering place has reopened! read more

This place is great! I typically run to Starbucks but wanted to try a local cafe while in town for my daughter's volleyball tournament. This place is definitely worth going to! I got an iced mocha, which wasn't too sweet like some other places, and the banana bread which had a nice sugar crunch on the outside. But the best part was the cafe itself! The barista was from Chicago and very kind and helpful. This would be a great place to listen to local musicians or just meet up with friends. I'll definitely go back if I'm ever in town. read more

Fantastic coffee shop/cafe! The staff was over the moon nice and greeted us very personally! They saw me and my band mate on a poster and then again on their friends Instagram and said hey you guys are Gloom Balloon right? And we said yes, and next thing you know we were talking music, touring, and coffee with the barista! He was super nice and they make a great brew there too! I guess they have shows here as well, so totally supportive of music, and the arts, and they have great coffee, I think I mentioned that! You then realize that you are the only young urban professional in the joint, surrounded by nostalgic boomers eating Vegan Nut Crumble and high school students drinking Chai. The art on the wall? Photos of aging rock and roll bands, a close-up of a wrinkled hand fingering a fret board. On the bulletin board are posted ads for workshops on "true renunciation" and Cooking with Flax. There is an organic grocery next door, and this shop is obviously targeting their customers. You'd better go downtown. In fact, it entitles you to: - huff angrily when asked if perhaps the carafes are empty - tell paying customers that if they can WAIT six minutes, they can have some coffee - take almost twenty minutes to make the coffee, despite having no customers at the counter, with much eyerolling - pound on the swinging trash lid so that partially-empty cups, sugar packets, and scone bits are hurled at the customers who so rudely want to fill the cups they purchased - snarl "I'm sorry I threw TRASH at you guys." I frequent this coffee house for these main reasons: free off-street parking, eclectic atmosphere, diverse customers, open mic night, locally owned & operated, & I am comfortable here. Yes, depending on day, staff person, & which way the "force" is blowing at the time you are in there, you may or may not receive consistent service quality. But, this "customer service pendulum" swings both ways, & they will sometimes do very nice things for you. So, it averages out. Know this: a robot will never serve you here. Meadowlark is not a franchised chain. All the quirks of an eclectic coffee house, both appealing & unappealing, are here. This is also why the Meadowlark will be standing room only some nights. It is unavoidable to have cliques, but this is the only coffee house in town I have experienced random, pleasant conversations with strangers beside me. I only wish they had more electrical outlets. You will find some people on laptops, mp3 players, reading books/magazines/newspapers, playing games at their tables, and even some people engaged in good old fashioned conversation. Great coffee, great vibe. Drip coffee is self-serve, which I love because there's no awkwardness if the barista gives me room when I don't want it. Fully customizable. Coffee is strong and really puts a spring in your step, and at 2.75 for a cuppa with an extra shot of espresso? Unbeatable. Vibe is also hipster-ish but genuine and cozy. The furniture can be a little beat-up, but it feels lived-in and loved rather than run down. Board games and old books available for perusal. When you can get good coffee early in the morning it can make you smile. Meadowlark was open we were served promptly fact is who are the only ones in when we walked in. But it was early early and as we were leaving others were coming in. It's a little place in a strip mall and it's quite a ways from the street and is not on the main sign but if you're observant you will see it plenty of parking especially at the hour we were there I have no idea what it's like during the day. I love Meadowlark, for a lot of different reasons. Not only is the coffee great, along with being Fair Trade and Organic, their food is yum and bought locally, I like that a lot! The environment is relaxed and eclectic, students, friends, meetings, local artist hang from the walls, and from the posters there are nights filled with music, fund raisers, and political awareness. If you can get over it being in a strip mall, I think you'll be pleased. The staff is very friendly. I also like the rotating selection of local artists the cafe displays. I think that the Meadowlark focuses a lot on being a gathering place/music and art venue and that they do a good job. I've been here twice and each time I had very quick service and excellent tea. I really like the atmosphere of the place with the books and everything. They do need to fix up some of their booths though because they have awkward gaping tears in them but other than that it's a nice little place. Bathrooms were also very clean. It's also easy to find parking which makes it easier than downtown coffee shops. read more

I wanted to post an update... I am proud of Meadowlark. My last 2 experiences there have been quite pleasant. My coffee (while not quite perfect) was definitely drinkable, the service has been kind, and (to my greatest relief and HUGE acclaim) they have disposed of the couches with the stains of questionable origin (YAHOOO!). In their place now are comfy leatherette/vinyl sofas that are much easier to maintain and make me a much happier customer. Kudos to you Meadowlark for hearing your customers and taking action. :) read more

I love going there, because the owners as well as Barristas are all very accepting and friendly people. The furniture is comfortable and the people who hang there are all very diverse and interesting!! Most of all Nate and Adam support my artistic endeavors. I sell my crocheted hats, scarves, wrist cuffs, hacky sacs and bicycle travel bags there. I give to them and they give back to me. I LOVE THEM. The entertainment is also very good and I can get up to dance by myself to The Blues Messengers and no one judges me for doing so. So if anyone needs anything crocheted contact me.
