They came out and fixed some roof thingies which I can't recall names of, and they cleared off the moss and unclogged my gutters which were of my main concern (bones were dropped in the downspout by crows--animals belonging to vampires and demons--and water was spewing out everywhere in angles where it shouldn't during heavy rain season). Also, before they were called, I thought I was going to die falling off the ladder trying to scoop out a ton of asphalt pebbles collected in gutters over the years from the roof. Our old "30 year roof" decided to retire early (17 years) and announced it with a series of leaks. We considered 3 roofers and selected Mears after cross-testing their recommendations and pricing. The owner (Mr. Mears) came out quickly, did a diagnosis and helped us pick the right roofing surface and all the other roof system components. He also pointed out the likely causes of the leaks and gave good recommendations on solving some existing attic ventilation issues. We are very happy with our new roof. It's February, but they got out here, worked around/through the weather (keeping water outside as they did). Professional crew of four got it done, were always hard-working, polite and friendly. They were the "middle" $ estimate of three. We have a lot of roof area, many valleys, added about 20 soffit vents and replaced 20% of our roof plywood as well as skylights, fan vents, etc. Didn't damage any landscaping and cleaned up really well afterwards. They deserve 10 stars. Contractors in this area either don't answer, don't send estimates or are not competent. Means was on time, price was reasonable, kept us updated, corrected work, roof was done after two days, collected payment at final walk through. Our microwave turned off and made weird noises no even turned on by itself. At final walk through the tech took apart the vent, removed debris and voila, it worked. We called to schedule for inspection/estimate as our neighbor pointed out the damage on our roof (we live down the road from our neighbor) Ben came out earlier than scheduled before I got home from work. We had a leaky roof. They sent someone out quickly and offered a nice deal where if it could be fixed on the spot they'd do so for a fixed price, otherwise they'd leave you an estimate. Arthur came to our house and did quality work, did some extra seal on a vent up there for free, and didn't try to push a bunch of other stuff on us. Communication with Jackie Mear was quick throughout, something that is more rare than you'd expect in the service industry. We hired Mears to put a roof on our house when we were in the process of selling (the buyers asked us to replace the roof). Which means, we really needed them to work quickly. Which they definitely did! Our job was not without snafus (which ALL construction jobs have) but it's how they show up and remedy the situation that impressed me. They even came back out to fix something we forgot to add to the scope of work and they came out at a moments notice and didn't even charge us for the service call. Our torch-down tar roof had reached the end of its lifespan so we knew it was time to start "shopping" for a roofing contractor. I am very happy with Mears! I asked them to install a new roof on my house in two separate installations (a flat part and a sloped part), one part at a time, as I was strategizing over cost. They gave me a very competitive price and helped me not overspend on replacements I didn't need, making sure I understood the choices and agreed with the decisions all along the way. They never made me feel reluctant to ask a question (and I had many). They were absolutely terrific about follow-up. I'm doing some DIY remodeling and was not ready with plans for all my roof vents, so they came back and finished off the vent work separately, very handy for me. We had a leak in our rental house the week of Thanksgiving after a big storm. I called and emailed 10 roofers and Mears Roofing was the only company that was willing to come and take a look at my roof to help me! I was desperate because the tenants were complaining about possible mold and no roofing companies were available or willing to do a smaller repair job. The Mears company was so compassionate and went out of their way to try and help me with the situation, even though it was out of the way for them and they were also booked with jobs. They came out and determined the roof was not leaking at all, and that the water intrusion wasn't due to any faultiness of the roof, so even though they made the long trip to my house, they didn't even charge me the $350 they had quoted. Even though I would have been willing to pay a trip fee out of gratitude. Super nice and I wish I lived in Kent so I could use this company more often. 5 stars for integrity and communication! read more

Ben Mears is a great guy and he does great work. He's one of the honest guys out there running a business in a competitive industry. It's nice to know that you can still find someone that truly cares about people. He helped me out with some work at my coffee shop and he took the time to do it right. I wouldn't hesitate to contact him again or refer him out to friends and family. For anyone who reads the one star reviews given to Ben, please notice they are frustrated with communication issues. There are pros and cons to small business and typically one or two people play all the roles in order to keep costs down and maintain personalized customer relationships. Sometimes this means a slight delay in response times since they don't employ an entire customer service department. Giving a small business a one star review on Yelp is irresponsible, unless they have truly done you harm. Ben and his wife are good people and you can see by all of the rave reviews, that they will take good care of you and your repair issues. read more
