I almost never compose reviews of any sort, but the amazing service, quality of work, and value for the price of Mears Roofing was so positive I felt compelled to write and let other people know. I met Ben and Mears Roofing for the first time in March of 2011 when contracting to do a fairly good sized project on my home in Kenmore. I consider myself a fairly demanding customer with very specific expectations. I watched the work performed on my home over the course of two days, and found myself repeatedly thinking how perfectly it was being completed. That never happens to me when I'm watching people work on my home. :-) There were numerous occasions that the project could have been completed to the written contract while cutting corners, but they never did cut any corners and it was done as well as if I was doing the job to my own home. I am very pleased with their work and would recommend them to anyone, and have offered to be a future reference for them. I had a house I was remodeling roofed by Mears. They did a good job on the roof. They did not treat my property or landscaping nicely. They destroyed a hard to find Japanese maple, and broke the slab next to an outbuilding. I also found broken branches on a different tree stuffed underneath trying to hide the branches. I'm happy with the roof, not happy about destruction of landscaping. read more

We had our 23 year old roof replaced (yes that's right - our roof could legally vote, gamble, smoke AND drink!) by this company and are so pleased with the results. We did our due diligence and looked around, using Yelp as a baseline, and narrowed our results down to two companies (both with stellar reviews - I honestly do not believe we would have been disappointed with the other company, either). What drew us to Mears was all the five star reviews (obviously) with the few scattered one star reviews literally just complaining that nobody got back to them in a timely fashion/dropped the ball on communication (seems kind of harsh, but maybe that's just me). Anyway, Ben contacted us the next business day after we emailed him so we were clearly over that hump, and we set an appointment for him to come out and look at the roof. He showed up when he said he would, looked at our roof, answered our questions and left a sample sheet of shingles for us to peruse. Later that evening we received his bid, which was competitive with the other company. I exchanged a few e-mails with Jackie, asking questions about the process and options before deciding to use them for our re-roof. They were quick - work started on our roof the following week after speaking with Ben about which color shingles we had decided on. The workers showed up at the appointed time and were quick to get to work (judging from all the stomping around on my roof :)) It's also worth noting they were careful and considerate with the few pieces of lawn furniture I had outside, taking care to remove it out of the area so it couldn't be damaged by falling debris. Two days later (we don't have a very large roof) our project was completed and Ben came back one last time to check things over and make sure his crew cleaned up to his satisfaction (removing nails, debris, etc.) We had also discussed reattaching some of the attic ducts that had fallen and since his crew had forgotten (Ben says he forgot to tell them), Ben went right up there and did it while he was doing his final inspection. I personally came in contact with Ben, Jackie (his wife) and Emily (their office manager). I also had a brief interaction with one of his foremen (whose name is currently escaping me but I'm 90% sure it started with an "A"... Alejandro, maybe?). Everyone I interacted with from this company was professional, polite and pleasant (the three Ps!) Hopefully I won't need a roof for a long while (unless a hurricane carries it away or something) but I'm definitely recommending this company to all my friends and family, along with the good people of Yelp. We just had Mears put a new roof on our house. They did a great job! This is a good company to do business with. The crew came when they were scheduled to, and worked steadily through the day, only taking a break for lunch. The finished the roofing in one day! While they were here, they were quiet (except for the tearing off and hammering, of course), didn't play music, talked quietly if at all, and cleaned up thoroughly before they left. Ben Mears came a couple of days later for a walk-through, and checked to make sure that everything was up to standard. He explained about the warranty, and told us the formal paperwork would be coming soon. He was very pleasant to work with. These guys did an awsome job on my new rental income property. I got a great deal on the home but it needed a new roof. They should up before I put in my offer in and gave me a quote. I had two other company's give a quote and one of the company's never even sent it to me. These guys not only came in cheaper but the customer service was beyond my expectations. First of all.. Ben Mears Roofing.. Is a honest businessman and it is reflective in his business practices.. We just recently had our roof replaced...after 40 years..( needed one badly) We took 4 bids... 2 of the companies.... Allied being one was I felt were cheesy and I frankly didn't trust the sales reps could deliver what they promise... I felt like I was being sold by a use car sales man .. To much in your face pressure.. The Allied rep took several days to get back with a bid. The 3rd roofing company Seattle " something or other " contract was designed for cost overruns.. When read carefully the price quoted was not going to be the final cost... Hidden chargers in the contract... Then we have Ben Mears.. No pressure on the sales end.. He came in took measurement ... Emailed me the bid .... It was one of the lowest of the four.. Including gutters and 6 squares of plywood for repair work.. We emailed back and forth to clarify a few details and questions. Ben came out showed us some roofing tiles we discussed the process, set a date .. Shook hands and we had a deal...Ben was on site daily his crew was very professional and cleaned up very nicely... Ben finished the job...$100.00 under the quoted written bid... And told us to write the check for $100.00 less because he didn't use all the materials needed for the job... He could have kept the $100.00 I would have never know the difference ... ( Honesty) .. So I had no problem paying that bill.. Also no up front money to get the materials or anything..we paid when the job was completed to our satisfaction... In fact Ben sent his guy back around several days later because he thought they could have cleaned the deck off better... ( it looked ok to me) All in all it was a great experience dealing with Ben Mears ... I would recommend him to my mother, pastor or boss.. My only regret is that there aren't more stars here. Ben & Jackie Mears are the best. I just purchased my first home and it has just been a money pit leaving me dealing with two months of contractors & businesses that I guess believe I have idiot written across my forehead and running around chasing my tail trying to get everything figured out and with strains and drains on my financial resources. Mears Roofing is exactly why I like smaller, family owned businesses that care about high quality work, people & our community. Ben & Jackie went over and above to listen, come up with a plan and help me feel less stress. Ben even looked and offered suggestions on some of my other issues with this home and I couldn't be more pleased with the actual work they did. I live in a community with 304 other home owners and I hope that my glowing review in our HOA resource book brings them to my neighborhood more often. I realized I should have written this review earlier when we recommended Mears Roofing to my husband's customer. Better late than never! I called Ben Mears because of a leak in my parent's roof. I knew they needed a new roof several months earlier but my father was very ill and the roof project was put on hold. I did get 3 bids from other companies but just couldn't pull the trigger. Ben came out and patched the roof in the rain and was honest and said it probably wouldn't hold but he just wanted to stop the leak until the weather got better. It worked for a while but the rain would not let up so the roof started leaking again. Unfortunately, a new roof was needed. Luckily we got a break in the weather and Ben went into high gear, had a dumpster delivered to the house, the old roof removed and a new roof installed within 3 days. Ben and his crew showed up when they said they would (one time they showed up early!), did a great job and left the place clean as a whistle! I have owned and remodeled many homes and have had the experience of contractors showing up when they wanted or not at all. This is not the case with Mears Roofing. Very reliable, honest and genuinely good people. Ben's price was also lower than the 3 other roofing companies and the roof looks wonderful! He also took care of my parent's like they were family. Our roof started leaking around the kitchen hood, and we decided to go with Ben after all the great reviews here. He was able to squeeze us in the next day and even arrived earlier than planned. Ben immediately diagnosed the problem and had the fix done very quickly. I'm very happy with his professionalism, and we haven't had any leaking issues since. Mears did our TPO flat roof about two years ago. Showed up on time for estimate, showed up on time to do the work. While it did take a little longer than estimated to complete, Arthur and Ben showed up every day until it was done and in the end looked great. Fast forward two years. This spring we noticed water coming into the house in a closet when it rained. Called Ben immediately and said we must have a roof leak. Arthur was out the next day to inspect it and found that somehow our ridge vent metal, in spite of being installed correctly, had separated at a seam which allowed water to flow right in. It was a strange metal failure and I don't fault the installers for this. They designed a solution to double layer the vent cap so there is a back up and reinstalled the entire thing. They sprayed the beams and insulation in the attic to prevent mold growth and compensated us for some floor damage. Ben handled the situation as professionally as one could possibly expect and even offered to come do a free roof inspection in the fall just to make sure the revised vent cap is still looking good. TLDR; Everything went well initially, but two years later there was a vent failure and water leak. They corrected everything promptly and courteously. Great company. read more

My roof is relatively new but it was not installed by a professional, so there were several issues that would eventually cause it to fail earlier than it should. I needed my attic ventilation redone along with some other minor repairs, and where other big companies you'll find on yelp would not even come out for an estimate on my small job, Ben was more than happy to, and came within a couple days of contacting them. He showed me what needed to be fixed, what didn't, and was very up front about it all. A week later, Ben and Mario showed up and spent two days on the job. The work itself was very professional, and I'm now confident I can get the full life out of my roof. Just got an overlay on our 20 year old home last Friday and it's beautiful. The customer service from this roofing company is top notch. Extremely quick responses, follow up, very professional communication, clean work. Ericka and Ben who run the place have nailed it (no pun intended!). Mears Roofing is great! They were super easy to deal with and the structure of their repair pricing is very fair. I liked the piece of mind knowing they were going to either be able to fix it for the flat rate or provide an estimate. They were able to squeeze me in on a Friday afternoon because they were aware of the torrential downpour we were in store for that weekend. The repair worked and we were leak free. Their repair guy was very thoughtful, took all my tarps and wood anchoring them down off the roof for me, folded my tarps up and neatly stacked them and the wood in my garage. The office staff was wonderful too, after the initial return phone call they were fast on email and text and kept me informed of their schedule leading up to their arrival. Incredible Service! Ben and Jackie were fantastic through the entire process, from bid to cleanup. Given their high ratings, it was no surprise that they were well booked beyond the initial bid submission date, but we were able to find a work window that met both our schedules. With inclemental weather approaching, Ben communicated well, and set proper expectations with us. The final job was delivered on-time, and the results were even better than expected. Ben never tried to up-sell us on anything we didn't need, and was great at communicating all the options. Even with some unexpected dry-rot discovered under the old layers, the added cost to remove & replace structural wood was not unreasonable at all. I would highly recommend Mears Roofing to anyone who wants to have a great job done & wants it done right, without having to pay a high overhead for marketing & sales tactics. The shop gal, Emilee was great, answering all of my questions and following up. When we called to schedule, Emilee managed to get a short notice delivery that day for work to begin the next morning. Mears did a complete roof replacement. I was very satisfied with the service. They did everything they said they would and job was done on time. Cleanup was great. There were a couple of items to take care of after the job was done including some minor damage to house when the truck got a little too close. When Ben came out to do the walk-through, he acknowledged my concerns and arranged to resolve them. In fact, he suggested ways to make things even better than I had thought was doable. Ben came out to check on a leak that I recently discovered only because of some wet sheetrock in my garage. He quickly determined the problem and while he was up on the roof he gave the entire roof the once over and discovered a faulty vent pipe which he repaired as well-- all quickly efficiently and for a super competitive and fair price. I sincerely would like to give this company a five-star review, but I cannot. Mears came and did some patch work for us about 6 months ago and at the end of the work they were supposed to give us a bid on the entire roof replacement. Bid never came. I called and reminded them, bid never came. Recently, I called and left a message, 3 days or so later I received a call back and was told that they were too busy to take our work. After some back and forth, the owner agreed to give us a bid, but for some reason, couldn't take my info over the phone and would call me back. That was well over a month ago. I work for one of the largest online retailers in world, a company who deeply values customer service, and I will be personally sending out this review to my co-workers. I purchased a house with the foreknowledge that the garage has a bad roof. Unfortunately, it started to rain cats and dogs right after I took possession of the house, and water was dripping from the dry-wall ceiling in the garage. I discovered Mears Roofing thanks to Yelp! Jackie squeezed my job into their busy schedule in the fall season and Ben's workers (Arthur & Dave) got the job done on the first clear day after my go-ahead. After the garage was covered by the newly installed PVC, they also came back a couple of times (even on Saturday) to replace several vent boots on the metal roof which covers the main sections of the house. That is the best company ever! I have called three companies, all of them said different things and prices. I had to repair three skylights. One said I just need to fix them, another one replace them, and another one that I need to replace one and the other just fix them. I was going crazy, but when I called Mears I felt that they want to help me, and I told them the highest price doing all that this company said. I was really surprised once I arraigned a price for doing all the repairs, they came to my house as soon as they can and told me that I didn't need to replace everything and charge me less than we arraigned! I had roof leak and struggled with who I should call for help until I saw the reviews for Mears on Yelp. I was impressed, so I gave them call. Arthur showed up on time and went above and beyond to not only fix the problem but also to inspect my whole roof to make sure nothing else was wrong. Good thing he did because he found another leak. He let me go on top of the roof with him to show me exactly where the problem was. Their price was fair and when the second leak was found they did the work and stuck to the original agreed upon price. I will always recommend Mears roofing not only because they do great work but also because they have wonderful customer service. When I contacted Mears Roofing I desperately needed my roof and gutters cleaned, and I had only a week to do it before I started a new job and wouldn't be available during the day. Jackie managed to rearrange their schedule to have the work done that week, which in itself was terrific. They gave me an estimate very quickly, and when the bill arrived it proved to be right on the nose. Arthur arrived to do the work, and did an amazing job. He fixed the broken gutter in the back of the house in ten minutes, and pointed out a couple of spots where the shingles had come off. Then, because he had materials on hand and it was not a major job, he fixed them with no additional fuss whatsoever. Now my roof looks great, there's no waterfall onto my back porch, the gutters are running smoothly and quietly, and I'm not worried about roof leaks because of missing shingles. Charged me nearly $600 for a leak repair and did nothing. I had to call another roofer, who is now replacing the entire roof, and he showed me where Mears did exactly nothing other than stuff an 8 INCH X 12 piece of plastic in a small gulley. New roofer was disgusted at me being charged $600 for doing nothing. His first attempt, he apparently did nothing, second attempt, he apparently put in the small rectangle of plastic. Leak got worse and cost me hundreds in interior ceiling repair. I am having my roof replaced now, the new contractor pulled up the old one and showed me where Mears did exactly nothing other than put in that small piece of rubber/plastic in a gulley on the roof. Minimal effort to lift a few shingles clearly showed me, a non-roofer, exactly where the leak was. He didn't even do that. Unbelievable - avoid! He is probably looking to replace your whole roof, will just take your money for leaks or repairs and do nothing, like with me. read more

Just had Mears replace my 26 year old roof on my 108 year old home and detached garage. From the moment I contacted Mears I was treated respectfully and they communicated well. Ben (owner) came and provided an estimate and walked us through options, and patiently worked with us over the next 2 weeks as we explored options, changed our minds, and were typical, indecisive homeowners. Tearoff and install were great. 2 days total. Solid cleanup. The work crew was nice, respectful, presentable and hard working. I called in June, dilly dallyed for a couple of weeks and had a new roof by Aug 1. Gutters as well. Ben's a very nice guy, his office manager Ericka is great at communications, overall an A+ for the work. Happy to heartily recommend Mears to you. read more

Mears Roofing just completed a new roof on our home last week and it is absolutely gorgeous. The crew were at our home promptly each morning and were very courteous. They did a fantastic job of cleaning up the grounds before leaving for the day too. Every aspect of the project was top notch from the initial estimate, administration, installation to final walk-thru. We have a terrific warranty now with both GAF and Mears that we can also transfer to the next owners should we decide to sell our home. This roof is so pretty though...we're not moving! We worked with Gary Sparks, and Ericka from Mear's Roofing, and we had an excellent experience! Gary answered all of our concerns and questions; especially since we live in Hawaii, we wanted details, samples, and timeline, etc. Also weather was a huge factor as they wanted to do the roof shortly after we signed our agreement. At that time, we were looking at DECEMBER 2018, they rest assured us that everything would be covered-up with plastic but stated that work would commence providing "only" with slight showers. Needless to say we were fortunate, the good Lord had days of slight showers but mainly sunshine!!! The roofers work incredibly well with each other. We flew back in from Hawaii, to be sure everything had gone as expected. The workmanship was important to us and they did such an amazing job and the warranty is outstanding!! Other ROOFERS gave us a higher quotes with less substandard materials. So please checkout Mear's Roofing among your other quotes. We even gave a small tip to the workers. Mears roofing is as good as it gets. We wanted quality, and value, which we understand isn't always the lowest bid. We love our home, and knew it might present some challenges, being older. We were hoping to get a solid job done now, and make a relationship so a dozen years from now, we'd have someone to call if need be (which it inevitably will.) Last winter's strong winds and rains had left our roof looking tattered, and we knew the replacement was now overdue. Online research suggests there are a few major roof shingle makers, a couple of which will warranty certain installers' workmanship if they follow installation requirements and use certain products to keep it watertight. GAF is one such manufacturer, they make a product line that is a whole system, and require installers to use several of these components to ensure it can meet their warranty, rated for 130 MPH winds, and covering all costs arising from installation failure for 10 years. GAF warranties their manufacture of the shingle for 25 years, but the additional installation warranty seems to create a relationship where the installer wants to do it right so they can have any warranty work paid for by GAF. When we got bids from a couple of these Master Elite Installers, we learned Mears warranteed their workmanship for 25 years, which meant a lot to us. That is the relationship we were looking for going forward. It's fine for a manufacturer to have a warranty, but I have never successfully gotten a manufacturer to fix a defective item, have you? It is always the point of sales or service person I deal with, and that means it all comes down to whether a certain sales or service company does what they say they will. We are so glad we went with Mears. As far as quality, they didn't cut corners, they were grown men, not boys doing the work, they did not scrimp on materials, nor did they waste, they were timely, a self-contained crew of pleasant guys, no music, just hard working men putting in long days. I am shocked that over those few days there must have literally been 1,000,000 nails, staples, bits of tar paper etc. strewn across the land, but very little remains afterwards. They picked up anything fingernail size and up, which I find amazing from the same crew who did such hard and heavy work to make such a mess. When it was time to settle up, there were no hidden costs, the bid was LESS than the other Master Elite Installer who bid the job, done in half the time of the other bidder, and so we feel we got quality and value from Mears Roofing. The owner himself is stopping by next week to clean some mud splatter off my siding, which is unheard of, except it reminded me that the work crew Foreman, Irlin, was one of the guys I saw stooping his large frame over delicately picking tar paper out of my front flower beds. I respect a leader who will stand and work with his crew, and this company sets that example from the top down with the Boss himself out on a ladder for you. Thanks, Mears Roofing! As a first time homeowner, I was terrified of any sort of "home repair" company because of all the horror stories. Mears was AWESOME. They were straightforward and open about all the pricing, scheduling was prompt, and the crew left the place spotless. A year after all the work was done, we had a minor issue with a skylight (that wasn't even part of the original job!) and they came and fixed it within days. For free! I have never been so impressed with a company. I wish roofs weren't an every 30 year thing, I would hire these guys a million times over.
