One of my best friends invited me to this place for a Saturday lunch. The name of the restaurant was a bit comical but it didn't disappoint with the food. I arrived and was immediately seated. The waiter walked me through the experience and then started up the grill. My friend and I ate an all you can eat lunch that was awesome. Meats of all kinds including brisket, steak, chicken, lamb and pork belly. Lots of seafoods including shrimp. Lots of sides including steamed cheese and vegetables. My friend said that they typically time your stay (approx 45 min). It by the time watch you are full of all the food - which is also very delicious. I highly recommend this place and I plan to come again. Price of all you can eat is good. My only disappointment as they don't sell t-shirts with the restaurant's name on it. This was one of my best value kbbq experiences! Other kbbq spots don't allow refills on the soybean soup side but we got multiples for the table and it was a wonderful addition to our meal. The service was kind and attentive, even though it seemed like the waiters had a lot of tables to look out for. I used the yelp waitlist feature and it was very helpful because our name was called promptly after arrival. I think the entryway could be better designed because it can get crowded and it is hard to navigate in and out the doors. Meat quality was on point. My favorite being the dry age steak and kalbi, which are unique to this place. The side dishes are on par with other kbbq within this price range. You can try a lot of different proteins for only $30, including galbi which is a steal imo. I can't even remember all the other ones we tried but the standouts for us are definitely the galbi, beef brisket, miso pork belly, pork jowl and honey butter squid. The sides (soybean soup, steamed egg, salad and corn cheese) were alright and the servings are small compared to other places. The meat burned due to uneven grill temperature and the waiter did not cook our meat on time and eventually we took over every time because they had to leave. Sides felt like an afterthought but there were quite a selection. The vibe was fun for a casual night but don't expect high quality KBBQ. The highlight was the butter calamari but the rest was a little disappointing. We also enjoyed some of the bulgogi, brisket, pork, and galbi. We finally made it! Have been wanting to try for so long after so many great reviews from friends. On a Saturday night, this place fills up FAST but they also move fast. I really like that they utilize the online waitlist option. More places should. It's so convenient being able to see where you are in line & I can tell they're very on top of their 1.5? hour limit for guests because they gave our table of four the heads up that "last call" was happening exactly one hour after we first arrived. I was happy to see the mashed potato salad but was incredibly displeased with the sauces. The standard ones you can find at all the other kbbq restaurants seem to work fine so why try to fix it? All of the sauces here were spicy to me (and my spice tolerance isn't that bad), and as a result, I ate all my bbq with no sauce. Thankfully, however, I did end up liking the quality of the meat though, especially the galbi, so for the price point all in all, we were pretty pleased. To be honest, the side quality was pretty meh (the cheesy corn was OK), but I could see why people like the quality of the meat, which obviously should be the star. Dishonest pricing. Shameful practices. BEWARE. In the past, they had very clear guidelines on pricing for adults vs kids (ages 0-whatever is free, whatever to whatever is $X, and adults $35). Brought my three kids here ( ages 6, 4, 1) and we were charged for 2 adults, 2 kids (each kid was $20 apparently). When I asked how the pricing was set since there was no clearly stated age guidelines, they elderly lady manager first said that kids under 3 feet were free. Then, when I told them that our second kid was under three feet, they said oh, but he ate some food so he can be $10...literally making the pricing up on the spot. To make matters more shady, when they went to go adjust the pricing, suddenly there was a system issue and they couldn't make changes. They said oh, well just give you $10 back (obviously not accounting for tip and tax). When we got the final bill, gratuity of 20% was already included. They said because we sat at a bigger table, we had to pay 20%. We never requested to sit at a bigger table, our party of 5 included an infant, and we were only charged for 4....then they made up on spot about how the server helped us cook so he should get 20% when in actuality we did the cooking half the time. AND THEN THEY HAD THE GALL TO SAY WE CAN CHECK THE CAMERAS. You know what you guys? Korean bbq places are a dime a dozen in centreville. I'd rather take my money elsewhere than to be cheated by made up rules and dishonest pricing. You guys lost a customer. Would NEVER recommend this place again. ...the meat is alright. Wait times can be very long during peak hours, so make a reservation through Yelp ahead of time. Your whole party has to be there for seating. Even when the restaurant is packed, the servers are attentive and bring the meat out FAST. I'm a big fan of the galbi, ribeye, and garlic pork belly, but really you can't go wrong with their menu. We spend a majority of the meal eating those two items. Would also recommend the garlic pork belly. Nice garlic flavor and is not chewy at all. This place also has some of the best corn cheese in the game and it also comes with the AYCE. I couldn't ask for anything more. Service here is quick and attentive. The price is $30 per person for dinner which is a little cheaper than the others I've been too, for the quality and quantity it's an AMAZING deal. Worth every penny. Honestly, I wouldn't even be mad if it was a little more expensive. They had steamed egg, corn cheese, salad and soybean soup that's also unlimited. (And the steamed egg wasn't cooked in tin foil lol #noshadebutshade). They take three meat orders and three side dish orders at a time, which helped us not to have leftovers and not be worried about over ordering. The service is amazing and very attentive. You can definitely find other K-BBQ spots that serve better quality meat a la carte, but the meat quality here is on par with other AYCE BBQ places. What makes Meat Project much better than other AYCE BBQ places is the meat options and sides, the price point, and the closing time. The meat options easily outnumbers the meat options you'll find at most other AYCEs in NoVa. You'll find intestines and pork jowel here which are hard to come by at other AYCE places. There are also a variety of pork belly from red wine pork belly to miso pork belly. One unique menu item you should definitely try out is the honey butter octopus! My other go-tos include: brisket, aged rib eye steak, and galbi - all of which are well seasoned and tender. As for the sides, they offer a variety of salads, soybean soup, steamed eggs, and corn cheese. All of which are also AYCE and does not come at any additional cost. Banchan is also served with a variety of pickled vegetables, kimchi, and japchae. There are also an array of sauces for you to dip your meats in. For $30 a person, this place is a steal! Not only is the price point amazing, it is also open rather late - typically closing at 11pm on weeknights and midnight on weekends. I've been twice now and it's been consistent with the taste and service each time. I like that there is no A or B options, like at most AYCE kbbq. It's all one price of $30 and there are plenty of meat selections. They also have many sides for you. The first time we went, they asked if we wanted the cheese corn, soup and eggs and we of course said yes. The second time, they only asked if we wanted the corn and eggs, we said yes thinking they also would bring soup, but they didn't. We had to ask which is fine, so just ask for all the sides if you want it, because they have it. I probably won't ask for cheese corn next time because I don't like the taste of theirs. Meat selections: each one we got was fantastic. Just take a look at the meat selections before you go. Meat Project offers so many meats on their menu that would be on the higher price option at any other kbbq spot. You get aged ribeye, galbi, shrimp all on one menu price. The meats we ordered were seasoned perfectly. Meats came out in a good amount of time after we ordered and our cook was so helpful, attentive and kind. It made our experience very enjoyable. The first time we went, we were the only family with a baby and they had one high chair with a broken seat belt and said they had no other ones, so they need to get more because that's not ok. Came with a group of 6 friday night for a reservation. I'll start off by saying that I wanted to love this place despite seeing some of the past negative reviews (upon arrival..). It was busy, but our server was just too rude. I was tired and came here off a long shift after work, I was prepared to leave a great tip. I work in a restaurant myself so I understand what it's like to get overwhelmed. However, ignoring your customers to their faces or leaving them unattended for long periods is just not acceptable. Our server would run away and ignore us if we asked for something. This one time he brought us some meat we never asked for, put it on the grill, and then left without letting any of us speak. He ignored my friends begging him to give them their food (in his hands) for him to just ignore them and set it down somewhere else or leave. I don't have his name. The music was playing very loudly and the playlist/selection was unpleasant. It gives you the impression that they are trying to rush you out the door. When it comes to the food itself: I love brisket, but the second I got a taste of the brisket here I had to spit it out. It tasted rotten. I've been eating brisket at kbbq places in the DMV for 10+ years and never had this happen before. It tastes really good at other places! I noticed no one in our group ate any of theirs. The sauces were not really good, and they give you about 1 teaspoon of each as well. Corn cheese sauce didn't taste like a cheese I have tried before. The spicy pork belly was the best thing I tried. Because of the bad food quality and service it is true that you may leave this place starving/hungry (I saw a lot of other reviews saying this.) I definitely did. I only weigh 130lbs, so it's not like I can eat much anyways and yet I still left starving. Usually when I go to kbbq places I try to only eat a couple bites of rice here and there and mostly fill up on meat to get my moneys worth. I leave get extremely full. Equipment (5/5): We had 1 burner for 3 people which was PLENTY since the cooking surface was way bigger than Iron Age's and SŌ Korean BBQ's. We never had an issue of something not cooking. Food Safety (2/5): 1 pair of tongs was used for both raw and cooked meat. Our waiter would pour the meat on the burner from the bowl it came in, and then grab the only pair of tongs on the table and move the raw meat around. Since we haven't, they explained to us about their all you can eat and it was very thorough. They came to check up on us every 5-10 mins to make sure the food wasn't burning, was cooking properly, and accommodate us overall. They were quick to refill anything that we needed and they provided our orders very quick. Overall, the service here was on point. Lastly, the food. Oh my, do I have to explain? Everything we ordered was a delight! From the spicy bulgogi to the garlic pork belly, it was wonderful. Evenly seasoned and marinated. Great quality of meat. It was fantastic! The sauces and the complimentary side dishes were refillable and they were all amazing! The steamed egg was nicely portioned and so was the corn cheese! We have gone to many KBBQ joints in northern Virginia! We love KBBQ like a fat boy loves cake lol. I would have to say that this place is exceptional in all areas....meat quality and selection, choice of sides, service, and cleanliness. They have a great selection of meats from marinated bulgogi, galbi, aged ribeye, octopus, intestines just to name a few. They also have the standard cuts of pork belly, brisket, chicken etc. if you are not one to venture out. You come to your table with side dishes already there, Kim her, potato salad, pickled jalapeños, and a few more. Your covered bowl of rice is also waiting for you. You can order steamed egg and cheese corn which is like melted cheese with corn kernels. Sounds simple yet weird but It's pretty tasty! You can order up to three types of meat at a time and our server was very attentive and nice! Some will kinda leave it to you to cook the meat but here they come around often. The whole place looks clean and welcoming. All the staff were friendly and best of all, the AYCE price has stayed at a reasonable price where other places have raised theirs.
