The newest food truck to hit the Chicago scene, chef Phillip Foss has left the kitchens of Lockwood to join the latest craze in the restaurant world. Chef Foss was there to talk with us and was very laid back. We talked a bit about social networking and such before taking off. No line, but it was the first official day, so hopefully word of mouth spreads. My co-workers and I each got the meatball sub, which he said was his favorite. Lots of cheese, very aromatic, and the bread was perfect. The inside was softened up from the sauce (but not too saucy), while the outside remained chewy. The meatballs were filling and juicy. While $8 feels like a lot for a sandwich (and it is, honestly), it was pretty darn good quality. I'll be back if he's ever in the Loop again...and if they can get their Foursquare working. I'm a big fan of the food truck. So the day before I left for Chicago this week I made sure to check out some of the food trucks driving around town. Meatyballs was my first food truck in Chicago and boy is it a tasty one. I opted to try (3) different balls (grenades) as opposed to one hero (which they call a torpedo). For about $9 they filled me up for the next few hours and tasted great. First up was the BBQ Ball...pork shoulder with red cabbage, apples and a smoky bbq sauce. Hit the spot for sure. Next I tried the MeatyBall...pork/beef combo with a cheese truffle sauce. Totally delish. Loved the sauce. Third but certainly not least was the Buff Ball. I think this one was my favorite... buffalo chicken, celery, hot sauce and crumbled blue cheese. The chicken was so soft and moist it fell apart. And the fact that they put on actual crumbly blue was a big plus (I realllly don't like creamy blue cheese dressing. Yuck) My only complaint for the MeatyBall Mobile truck is that the grenades and torpedoes aren't made right there in front of you. It looks as though they make a few dozen of each in the morning... wrap them up, label them and put them in the back of their truck (which doubles as warm oven). When I first read about the truck I was visualizing a guy with 6 pots of meatballs... all heated by water underneath ... and each sandwich made on the spot when you walk up. I know this could be time consuming... but I think it would really kick the balls up a notch. While my grenades were delish... they were messy and the bread a little soggy. I love the model of an inventive kind of food truck that uses Twitter to announce its location for the day. Okay, so Meatyballs isn't all that "secret" about it, and they do update their website as well if you don't give a hoot about Tweets! A casual lunch visit with the lovely Kate M. was slated, and Meatyballs was the perfect grab-n-go choice. Plenty of sandwiches to choose from on the menu, I even saw "Schweddy Balls" (SNL) just as I hoped. Wait, that came out wrong. The joke is not lost on the owner, who couldn't have been nicer. We got two sandwiches: Thai'd Balls- texture kind of mushy, but the turkey with coconut and green peppers was really tasty. BBQ Balls- Pulled Pork with red cabbage and a cola-bourbon sauce. Excellent! The chocolate salty balls were a bit of a disappointment, and reminded me of a Butterfinger candy bar, but made with soggy cake. They weren't the belle of the balls, oh well. Social media is delicious! I received a tweet meatyballs was in my area so I hopped on my bike.. My first impression rolling up to Lawrence and Ravenswood was a bit sketchtacular as there was an unmarked food truck with no signs or meatyball branding like the truck on their website. I did a quick ride by and it was meatyballs but they only had a small white board sign. I had already decided upon the BBQ balls and some chocolate salty balls The BBQ Balls I would give 3.5 stars - My first initial meatball was sorta dry and the whole time I was eating it I was thinking I would do some sort of slaw or onion compote because I know from experience pork can dry out quick. When I made it to the middle meatball I hit some delicious onions and more sauce! That brought the awesome and the rest was a delight. Chocolate Salty Balls 0 stars - Only because I didn't get them! When I opened the bag there were no Chocolate salty balls ( how many jokes can you make with that sentence!). I was pretty bummed but alas there were amazing truffle chips instead. The meatyballs mobile came by the AON today and I tried the "sweddy balls" sandwich. outside of the cool name for a sandwich which obviously made it attractive to try, it tasted very good. one of the best sandwiches i've had in a long time. really meaty, great mix of Indian and american flavors into one. made up ground up lamb, chicken, and potato meatballs in a steawy sauce that included eggplant, onions, tomatoes, and other vegetables. bread wasn't too thick or thin, it was just right. and for a sandwich that came from a food truck, it was really good. Put em in my mouth!!!!!! So happy that they have a stop down the street from where I work. I've passed by a number of times and there is always a line. So I actually decided to stop and read the awesomely hilarious menu and did the deed---got me some meaty balls! They have a good variety of meatball sandwiched, seafood, vegetarian, and just a lot of different combos of topppings. The Meaty ball sandwich had a four cheese sauce, mushrooms, shallots, and truffle---doesn't that sound heavenly!!! At first I thought the sandwich was a little on the pricey side---but for fresh yummy gigantic balls--not so much. Loved it. QUICK ONE-LINE SUMMARY: Gourmet meatballs galore with variety - they're better when you get there early and yes, I dig the chips! First - Meatyballs Mobile popped my Chicago Street Truck cherry. I went to their Dearborn / Monroe (MB1) location which is placed in a nice spot if a line forms, cause then you're not blocking passing pedestrians. The truck server was cool and how can you not chuckle a bit when all he does is yell out puns on "gettin' balls." I've been here a couple of times and have gotten the BBQ Balls & the Thai'd Balls. Warning - the BBQ Balls can get a bit sloppy with the sauce, which is soaked up in the bread. The mix of red cabbage and apples brings the flavor of the sauce out and really does a number for the pork. Meatballs were soft and since I've had this a couple of times, definitely better when the truck first arrives. Next - the thai'd balls were actually less on the true Thai food stylings of heat. I was expecting a bit more spiciness, but that fell short. The turkey balls were a little dry and for this particular sub, there was probably more bread than meat. We need more "balls to the walls" action! Lastly - each time I've gone, I've gotten their chips and always enjoyed them. Crunchy crunchy crunchy. A bag of these with a meatball torpedo, is more than enough food at the usual Chicago downtown lunch pricing ($7 - $10). MBM, as I used to have to called it, was a risque, naughty name I couldn't say, let alone visit. I wanted to, oh how I wanted to. But how was I supposed to visit this elusive food truck if I couldn't even utter the name of the sandwich I so desired? I blushed at the thought of whispering the dirty play on coq au vin, nestled into a submarine roll, that I so desperately craved. I even felt dirty following them on Twitter. The sexual inneundos made me feel devious just reading them. So many scenarios played through my mind, "What if I wrote it down on a Post-It and just handed it to the driver? If I actually say the name... I can't possibly still wear my pearls anymore, right? My grandmother would die... oh but the sandwich looks so incredible... maybe I'll just say 'red wine chicken, please!'... no that's just asking for ridicule... I'm not a prude, I'm just... okay I'm a prude. But I really want that stupid sandwich..." In the end, a hectic Friday morning coupled with horrendous hunger pains and a FourSquare check-in coupon led me to that sordid vehicle of phallic implications, where to my astonishment, I ordered the infamous poultry. After two sandwiches from the Meatyballs Mobile, I'm ready to declare my fandom. So here it goes: Yay! I'm a fan! Meatyballs Mobile is one (actually two, there's a Meatyballs1 & a Meatyballs2) of the growing number of food trucks around Chicago. From my perspective, this is a most welcome trend! More options for lunch and snacks/desserts can only be a good thing. And the best part is that putting it in a truck drastically lowers the barriers to entering certain markets (like the Loop). It also allows them to serve multiple areas without needing to maintain a costly physical presence in each. What I'm getting at is I'm a fan of the basic concept of mobile food! Speaking of concepts, MM's food concept is pretty simple. They serve balls of various types of food on bread and a couple basic sides. That's it. Their menu is available online. So far I've tried the BBQ Balls and Meatyballs. Both are very good, but I liked the Meatyballs a bit more. Perhaps it was the cheese sauce & truffle oil adorning those delectable balls of beef & pork! They do have a vegetarian (Ricotta Balls) and a fish (Honey & Mustard Glazed Salmon Balls) option for those who aren't big on meat. Oh, and they have Not Yo' Daddy's Ball, which assumes you're not a cow I guess, as they're bull testicles! That's one I'll probably leave to those more adventurous than I. The sandwiches are a hearty size, and cost $7-9 a piece. The side options are truffle dusted potato chips ("homemade", $2) which are excellent and chocolate salty balls ($3) which I've yet to try. The reason for 4 stars? Well it's not entirely fair I suppose, but I can't bring myself to love premade sandwiches. The bread gets soggy, there are temperature issues, etc. Of course, it's not MM's fault that they have to premake their sammies...all the food trucks in Chicago premake their food. Nevertheless, the fact is the sandwiches would be better served up fresh, and suffer a little by being made and wrapped up in advance. But that won't stop me from coming back for more! I'm lucky enough to have the Meatyballs Mobile parked pretty close to my office on a regular basis. I've tried a few more meatyballs in the past month or so. The menu changes slightly, which is good because I like to try new things. I'll try anything twice. So far, my fav meatyballs sammich is the Thai'd balls. Yum. The Booya balls are pretty good too. The chocolate salty balls weren't as good as I'd hoped. The truffle chips are pretty addictive though. I'm not one for chasing after food trucks, but last week I stumbled upon the Meatyballs truck on my way back to the office. I was hungry and the truck was loaded with hot balls. How could I pass that up? The truck itself is of the industrial-park/roach coach variety and is a bit sketchy to be perfectly honest. However, just walking up to it made filled me with an odd sense of patriotism that relived any initial hesitation I might have had. Maybe it has something to do with the roll up your sleeves/mom and pop aspect to this venture, but I felt connected to something greater. I felt a connection that you don't feel when you pop into a Jimmy Johns or a Potbelly. Who knows, maybe I was just really hungry, cold and wanted to sink my teeth into some of those balls (sorry, the 12 year old in me keeps coming out when writing about balls...). On this visit I had the BBQ Balls ($8) and bag of the Truffle Potato Chips ($2). The BBQ balls are made of pulled pork accompanied by apples, braised cabbage, topped with a house made bourbon cola BBQ sauce and served on a French roll. The smoky meat, sweetness from apples and the slightly vinegary sauce really elevates this sandwich from traditional pulled pork to a finer dining experience. I'd put this sandwich right up there with some of the best pulled pork in Chicago! Hands down the best balls I have ever had. I could only imagine what this sandwich would have tasted like if it was made on the spot. The chips are not to be missed either. Truffle oil and truffle salt, need I say more? Not to mention for $2 they are practically free. I was slightly disappointed that the truck did not carry any beverages, but I guess I understand with it being -20 and all. The owner took the time to explain the concept, the menu and offer his suggestions. I didn't expect great customer service from a truck, but that's what I got. He had pictures on the truck of two young girls who I would assume are his daughters. It was a nice touch and prompted me to throw a few extra bucks into the tip jar. You have to admire a man who is willing to put his balls on the line to provide for his family. I will most certainly be returning to try all of the balls that this truck has to offer. read more

No fucking clue what I ate. Someone was kind enough to bring us several of these sandwiches as a gift, but they weren't really labeled, so we just started eating them. Everything was in meatball form, with the only apparent difference being the toppings. One tasted like bbq pork with carmelized onions. One tasted like Thai curry. One had mushroom and onions and tasted like truffle mayo. One tasted like duck or rabbit or something gamey. One tasted exactly like cheesecake with a graham cracker crust and a drizzle of raspberry sauce. Just kidding on the last one. I have enjoyed Meatyballs selections on two occassions. The first time I ate the Schweddy Balls (fortunately the wacky nicknames are topped by the excellent taste!). Schweddy Balls are made with Tunisian-style lamb and chicken with zesty tomato sauce, so the sandwich tasted like an amped-up Subway meatball sub (this is actually a compliment!). BBQ Balls are made with pulled pork shoulder, topped with red cabbage, a smidge of apple and cola-bourbon BBQ sauce, yum. Amazingly, the sandwiches never seem extremely messy to eat - the ingredients somehow hold up well. I also sampled my friend's coq au vin-style balls, good but not as good as Schweddy or BBQ. I also sampled his chocolate salty balls dessert item, again good but not great. This entire review probably sounds bizarre and sketchy at face value, but it is actually all good news so look for the Meatyballs Mobile! Just do it! read more

After reading Michael S's review, my interest was piqued. So interested that on one "Payday Friday", I stalked the Meatyballs Truck on Twitter and ended up taking a bus on my lunch to their Monroe and Dearborn location just to have my meatball fix...Hey, a girl's gotta factor in the time to sit and savor her meal at her desk! So, the deets are the Original Meatyball sandwich, some of their truffle oiled chips, and "the no arm twisted needed" white chocolate oreo salted dessert balls all for $13. I'm ending this review on a good note, so let's talk about the non-pleasantries first. The truffle chips were neither here nor there...They were just ok...They needed a little more salt, a lot more flavor or truffle. They could've gotten some of the salt from the overly salted oreo balls. Those weren't bad tasting, but teetered more on the savory side than the sweet side. That recipe can be tweaked, so it's a no brainer. Ok, now onto the GOODNESS. That meatball torpedo was outstanding! Factoring the Chicago law that food can't be made on the truck and all of the sandwiches are pre-made, you're thinking maybe the sauce would soak up the sandwich and make it soggy right? Nope! Maybe it was the genius idea of the chef, or maybe it was just coincidence because I had gotten my sandwich before the lunch rush of noon and probably freshly made from the "Ball Cave" not too long ago....But the 4 cheese sauce made that French bread the right consistency, not too crunchy, not too soggy. Layered with the sauce were cooked mushrooms and then stuffed with fabulously seasoned meatballs. Food coma ensued....work productivity declined. The fact that the sandwich was pre-made somewhere, sat on a truck for 30 mins to 2 hrs before consumption is probably the biggest flaw of this truck. The sandwich is just a little too soggy for me. Maybe it's because I had the Shweddy Balls (Spicy Tunisian Style Lamb & Chicken Balls, Eggplant, Zucchini, & Tomato) and it's just a saucier sandwich? And I barely tasted any chicken, eggplant or zucchini, just a lot of lamb and carrots (which I don't even see as an ingredient). Torpedo Thai Balls for lunch today, the turkey balls, coconut sauce, and sweet pepper went really well together. I hated the bread. It was too much bread and the insides soaked up all the sauce becoming extremely soggy, then the sauce became overly thick. You know how that Outkast song, "Spottieottiedopalicious" starts off? "Damn, damn, damn, damn," then the horns kick in...that's what happened after I ate my first Meatyballs sandwhich for lunch today. I muttered damn, damn, damn to myself and heard the horns kick in as I devoured the monstrosity of a sandwich. Call it what you want, a tasty torpedo or globular goodness (words used by Philip Foss), the stomach ache after deciding to go to the gym and run 30 mins after eating was worth it. Next time, I'll go to the gym first, or save half the sammy until later. After following the website schedule and Facebook for a few weeks the truck made it's way back to Streeterville and I hope Huron and Fairbanks stays a regular stop. I guess you probably want to know what I ate; the Meatyballs which consisted of a ridiculously soft hoagie bun with beef/pork meatballs, tuffle oil, farmstead cheese, shallots (yessir!), and mushrooms. Fresh, tasty and like crack, I started twitching cuz I want another one already. Next time, I'm gonna try the buffalo chicken or Thai'd Balls. Amazingly these sandwiches are not soggy and are just like they were prepared that very second (rather than in the early AM). I almost forgot...I had the truffle potato chips too? Not sure I've ever had better chips before. Just lovely crispy truffly potato crisps. For those who complain about the price of a $7 or $8 sandwich, I say, sir or madam, shut thee mouth and stop complainin'! You are the same person who will spend $6 on a subway sandwich meal or $5-6 on a Potbelly sandwich, thinking you got a such a great deal with your bag of chips. Well, you just inhaled a bunch of processed crap and chemicals in that sandwhich. With Meatyballs your sandwich is freshly cooked that AM and the meat and veggies doesn't come in a plastic bag. For good fresh ingrediants, for a big sammy with BIG BALLS, that is 100X better than the regular shit sandwich you got at your local deli or you brought from home, the price is well worth it. You're paying for the goodness and the hard work of an independent small business man. It's about time we start getting some real street food in the city. I am fortunate to work at an intersection where several food trucks tend to congregate. I have enjoyed subs from here several times over the past many months since they began. The first (before I turned veg) was the booya balls made of crab and I found them delicious, as I did the truffle chips. Since then I have also had the risotto balls and the Beaty Balls (both vegetarian, and not sure if i am totally right about the name of the second one), both also very good. Yes, they are a little pricey but I think they are good quality and in this economy I like to support smaller entrepreneurs. Uh, not that their balls are small. I just like to avoid big boxes. I want all the balls. Haven't had a bad sandwich that chef Phillip Foss made. The only one I have get to try are the 'Not Yo Daddy's Balls'....not that adventurous yet. My biggest peeve with meatball sandwiches is the unproportional bread to ball ratio. Not so with these, it's the perfect size of both bread and balls and wetness. Favorites are the Boo-Ya balls and Meatyballs. Whatever you get make sure to get the truffle chips every time and the chocolate balls sometimes. Goooood stuff. Chef Foss is a cool dude too. Much like watching the movie Homeward Bound my Meatyballs Mobile experience was an emotional roller coaster, though thankfully I did not cry public. I am a food truck stalker, I just came across the Droid AP truXmap which puts all the twitter feeds from Chicago's food trucks in one spot, there is a God! Meatyballs Mobile was one of my last food truck conquest and my excitement has been building over the past few months to get my hands on some of Foss's balls... okay, I have met my quota for balls jokes, I'm done. There were about 15 people in line for these delicious Meatyballs and the line moved oh so slow in those frigid winter temps, though I can't complain because Foss himself is such a nice guy and took time to converse with his customers. They do take credit cards but bring cash unless you want everyone behind you in line to HATE you, learned this one the hard way! 2 Girls 1 Meatyballs - Mushrooms, Shallots, Farmstead Cheese Sauce, Truffle Oil - ($8) AMAZING !!!! Great texture and great flavor thanks to the rich cheese sauce! 1 Lobster Balls- ($9) just okay flavor and the texture was too soft, pass on this one 1 Truffle Dusted Potato Chips - ($2) very large portion though slightly inconsistent with their garlicky deliciousness. 1 Chocolate Salty Balls - ($3) They look like delicious little truffles and I do love the added flavor of the sea salt sprinkled on top though would pass on these next time, not sure how to explain them, not worth the calories. $22 total so $11 each and I think its safe to say a food coma was had by all. UPDATE: Got three Grenades today and they are definitely the way to go since you get to sample multiples. The Meatyballs seemed less saucy than the Torpedo version, the Club on special was good but my favorite was the BBQ balls !! I would definitely hit up Meatyballs mobile again as its a great value and the original Meatyballs sub was amazing, though next time I will be skipping the sides, its just too much food!! read more

I'm terrible with twitter. I really am. As a result, it took me FAR longer to track down this wandering food vendor than it probably should have. We're talking days here. Luckily, I'm willing to learn to not suck at Twitter to have more Meatyballs in the future. I had the Meatyballs sandwich and it was phenominal. On first glance, I thought to myself "hrm, this looks kinda small for $8". It's not. These things are freaking massive. Each bite was delicious, flavorful, and invited a new "I have balls in my mouth" quote that I felt necessary to share with my coworkers. There are infinite possibilities here, and you get pretty creative. My favorite may have been "Oh GOD I want to handle all three of these balls at once!". Another coworker had the Buffalo Balls and, thankfully, they were NOT Rocky Mountain Oysters(though I think they have those as well). This sandwich was an absolute knockout - particularly if you like anything in the vein of buffalo wings. Meatballs slathered in buffalo sauce, bleu cheese and bits of raw celery that add an unexpected yet extremely satisfying crunch. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. In addition to my usual cadre of lunch buddies, we dragged along a vegetarian with us today and she RAVED about her Ricotta Balls sandwich. If a Meatball joint can satisfy a vegetarian, it wins at life if you ask me. My ONLY gripe would be that it's a touch too expensive to have often for lunch. This truck is seemingly always parked in front of my office by the mart, but I always thought it looked like the sketchiest out of all the food trucks, especially with the name so I never went before. I am SO mad now that I missed out all of those times. On a whim, I decided to finally try it because I couldn't stand another day of Potbellys (sidenote: potbellys is my homeboy, but after only going there for weeks, it gets a little tiring). Of course my instant reaction of excitement to the menu listing for Buff Balls (chicken meatballs with hot sauce, celery, and crumbled blue cheese) made it an obvious choice. I can now say I just ate Buff Balls in under 3 seconds flat, and I will definitely be going back for more balls.... Did not expect to ever say that on a Friday afternoon. read more

Got the Club ball, the Thai'd ball, and the Shweddy ball, + truffle chips for $2 more. The truffle chips are good and fresh for chips, but too light on the truffle. The Thai'd ball could use more coconut and spiciness, maybe some cilantro or asian pickled veggies/sriracha. The Club ball, a special, was deliciously soft and moist white meat chicken that tasted as creamy like a good ricotta cheese, it had me gobbling it without pause. And I hate white meat chicken. Warm spring day in downtown Chicago, working from the ITA TechNexus space at 200 S Wacker, prowling around for something interesting to eat, staying away from the default SubwayPotbellyCornerBakery thing....I've got the good energy thing going and what do I spy but a food truck and a long line of patient customers waiting to be served. Not being one for lines, I stroll around the block to check my options but come back to the truck and the now even longer line of customers waiting even more patiently to be served. I figure something's up and take my place in line....not historic but definitely worth mentioning based on my self-acknowledged impatience with being served when I want to be served. (Must be the obnoxious ceo in me.) The wait was worth it.....I had Shweddy Balls (it is a warm, humid day, after all).....spicy Tunisian lamb and chicken, zucchini, carrots, tomato, spices and herbs. Great value, the sandwich was so big I ate some and saved the rest for when my mouth goes into ball withdrawal. read more

I've been meaning to track down the Meatyballs truck and get some tasty balls in my mouth. Finally I just ran into the truck by accident on Wells & Monroe on a recent lunchbreak. There were a few people in line. Everything on the menu (about 8 different balls - from BBQ pork to crab & shrimp) looked excellent. I chose the Meatyballs - beef, mushrooms, shallots, farmstead cheese sauce, truffle oil...and the truffle chips. The Meatyballs were awesome - the cheese sauce was almost like a melted ricotta - not very heavy or rich, but it went well with the other toppings. The truffle chips are very good too. All in all, it was $10 and I tipped $1. Highly recommend getting your hands and your mouth on some of these balls. By the look of it, the girls love Philip's balls too - there were about 5 attractive ladies behind me in line waiting to get some meatyballs in their mouths. UPDATE: Tried the Coq in Balls today...my favorite meatyballs so far- chicken, mushrooms, bacon, onions, and an incredible red wine sauce. read more

With options like "choke 'n chicken," "chocolate salty balls," and "sweady balls," it's fun just to place an order at the Meatyball Mobile. Luckily, it's just as enjoyable to eat there as well. My colleague's valiant efforts to track the Meatyball Mobile on twitter resulted in the discovery that they happened to be parked a block away from our office yesterday afternoon. So, off we went, in search of inappropriately named meat balls. They have an array of options (even a veggie, for the non-carniverous bunch out there), and the truffle chips are a MUST get side. I opted for the choke 'n chicken, a delicious mix of chicken, artichokes, mushrooms, shallots, lemon and truffle oil. My two colleagues went with the Thai option, and I heard rave reviews from both. The prices were standard for the loop, but the quality was definitely above average. It's well worth the effort of tracking this truck down if it's in your hood. read more

Meatyballs Mobile was also at the corner of Dearborn and Monroe today. So I got to try a few trucks while there. I tried the schweddy (Super Spicy), the original (marinara), the four cheese and the bbq pork. All of these were decent and pretty tasty. The single meatball serving was the way to go. Meatyballs took my lunch truck virginity today! I'm new to the city, and Dallas isn't the booming metropolis of lunch trucks yet...so I was already excited. The guy was super nice, I didn't have any cash, so he swiped my card--- I had the BBQ balls which are pulled pork with a cola bourbon sauce and it was fantastic! It wasn't super duper hot temperature wise (like some of the other reviews said)--but I don't want to sit in my office letting my food cool before I eat it. I'm in a hurry and I want to eat right away! So it was actually the perfect temp. It was super tasty, half filled me up and I'll eat the other half as an afternoon snack. Everyone in the office was asking what smelled so good--it's the only great sandwich like that I would trust to eat during lunch so my work clothes can stay clean! read more

Honest to say, I've been very reluctant to try the sandwiches from Meatyballs Mobile. When I see a food truck...I think of those that sit outside construction sites with just okay food. I was totally wrong here! The meatball sandwich from Meatyballs was excellent! I wanted to try the Meatyballs sandwich, which they were out of, so I chose instead the Shweddy Balls. Yeah, yeah, I know, I'm saying I like balls, but when it comes to yummy food like this, I think all guys get a pass using this lingo! As for the sandwich, the Shweddy Balls were good, lamb meat wasn't overpowering, nice taste & flavor, sandwich was still warm, with tasty vegetables. I also tried the truffle dusted potato chips, good as well, not too oily. Overall good food, good service, slightly above average prices for a sandwich. Will definitely try them again! read more

This meatball sandwich mobile truck restaurant is pretty hit or miss. Not by day, but by sandwich. The Schweddy balls are pretty good, but not amazing. The Artichokin' chicken is good, and the meatyballs sandwich is the best. Beef meatballs I believe, with several cheeses. I heard the buff balls were good also, but the coq'n balls were absolutely horrible. And I'm sure I didn't spell any of those right, but just be careful what you get there.. The truffle oil fries are also decent, but they can be hit or miss. The first time they were a bit off, the second time much better. By far the best thing here though are the chocolate salty balls. They're amazing. The white chocolate balls are also very good, but the dark chocolate are pretty amazing. I'd go here just for them. read more

Two and a half stars so I'll round up to three. Ehh...so I've been to the Meatyballs truck now more than five times and I feel like it has progressively gotten worse each time. One day my sandwich is piping hot, the very next day, it was lukewarm at best. I feel like depending on which truck you go to, MB1, MB2, or MB3, the temperature of the sandwiches vary. Truffle chips: Am I eating plain chips? Because I ain't getting any of the truffle flavor. The only plus is that you get a ton of chips. The chicken & choke...I get it. You use fresh baby artichokes. However, any cook knows that the tops of artichoke leaves are often tough and chewy. Why would you include entire leaves in the sandwich? A sandwich becomes significantly less tasty when I have to pick the artichoke out of my sandwich every other bite. Was this a fluke? The schweddy. I like spicy...no, I LOVE spicy. However, I don't like it when it completely overpowers the entire sandwich and I don't get any other flavors at all. Meh...I'd be willing to give Meatyballs several more chances before I transfer my food truck loyalties elsewhere. read more

Well slap my face, and call me Susie.... am alternating between typing and shoving the BBQ balls sandwich in my mouth as quickly as possible while still trying to look like a lady... I like BBQ. A. Lot. I was scared/nervous/excited to try to Meatball rendition of my fave pulled pork sandwich. These puppies are just delicious!!! I'd still like to see some of the ingredients incorporated into the balls to make them more meatball-y, but that's just me. These guys know good balls, and they make a decent sandwich too! Ok, bad joke, I know. Sorry. I've been to the truck twice and both times liked what I had. The first time I went around 12:30 and they were out of most things. I tried the crabby balls which were like giant crab cakes in a sandwich. It was good, but I had really wanted some meatballs. A few days later I returned, early this time, to sample the original Meatyballs. It was really tasty. I would get both again, I was a fan. The only issues I have is that the bread gets kind of soggy if you go late since due to a stupid Chicago law everything needs to be pre-made. Also, despite using great ingredients they're still kind of pricey. This is more of a splurge lunch than a regular stop for me. They take cash and credit though, and it really is a tasty sandwich is you're looking for something to change up your lunch routine. read more
