Very Disappointed - Do Not Recommend for Special Events I ordered a quinceañera cake from M.E.B. Cakes through Houston's Ballroom for an April 2025 event. We had a detailed design consultation, provided a specific color sample, and paid extra for custom floral decorations the bakery agreed to provide. On the event day, the cake was completely wrong--the color was a deep green that clashed with the event theme and dress, and it arrived undecorated. The bakery claimed they couldn't find the right flowers and added mismatched artificial ones at the last minute per my request. When I asked for compensation, the owner offered only another cake for a future event--not a refund. I even consulted another bakery who confirmed the extreme color difference wasn't a reasonable "weather issue" excuse. Neither M.E.B. Cakes nor Houston's Ballroom took responsibility for the disappointment. Be cautious if you're considering either vendor for a once-in-a-lifetime celebration. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing from start to finish. The cake tasting began with the owner showing up 30 minutes late. Once we sat down, we were interrupted several times, and when I asked a basic question, it was dismissed as "cheap," which made both of us uncomfortable continuing to ask anything. My fiancé's last name was also mocked for "not pronouncing it Hispanic enough," which was inappropriate and offensive. He rushed the entire cake tasting process. At the end after paying, he got up no congratulations or anything. Immediately pressured us into posing for social media content, even after clearly stating multiple times that we are not comfortable being posted online. We were handed a form to sign, which we thought was just for selecting flavors and confirming our contact info. At no point were we verbally told that 40% of the payment would be non-refundable. That clause was buried in fine print, and we were not walked through any of the terms. We paid in good faith. I called five days later to cancel due to such an uncomfortable experience we had and change in plans. I wasn't mentioned about losing the 40% until I asked the girl at the end of the call "Perfect and when should I be expecting the refund" all she said was I will put the girl in the cancelation pille. I asked her if she could specify the steps so that we could know what to expect, that is when she finally stated that we'd lose half of what we paid for our order all the way out in November, 8 months in advance. I explained how our situation went and she told me she would have the owner call me, I told her I appreciated her help and that I understand that she is just doing her job. The owner texted me saying due to "fairness to all clients" they do not do full refunds, but where was the fairness in how we were treated. We were treated completely unfairly and not how other customers get treated. They eventually said they'd give us a partial refund, charging us for the cake tasting and not refunding the tip which we understood. We sent our Zelle info as requested, but the refund was never sent. We followed up by both text and several phone calls, and were completely ignored for over a week now. It's unfortunate that what should have been an exciting part of our wedding turned into such a negative experience. The lack of professionalism, poor communication, and disrespect made this situation unnecessarily stressful. My family and friends won't be back after this and other recent reviews we've read. read more

I went to pick up my order during the posted hours of operation and the establishment was closed and no note on the door. I called the number posted on the door and the owner stated they were about 2 minutes away. I do understand things happen beyond our control. They arrive, I go in and was told the cake was not ready (order was placed 6 days prior) and pickup date was stated). The wait for arrival to waiting on my order was approximately 35 minutes. I was very pleased with the cookies, but the cake was a total disappointment. The cake lacked moistness and the decorating on the sides lacked professional quality. What an amazing experience. M.E.B. Cakes catered to all my needs and relieved one of the bigger concerns I had while starting the wedding planning process. We had a couple of meetings to discuss design and they brought our vision to life. First meeting was for brainstorming and the second was to look at some sketches. We decided on some flavors and then didn't worry about it again. Day of the wedding was worry free. They delivered the cakes and set them up and we were oh so happy with the presentation. Where should I start first...MEB Cakes is a privately owned business that has been around for 11 years...6 years at this current location...I was on the hunt of finding a birthday cake for my wife...and the place I liked was closed...due to Covid 19...and the other surrounding places near my home were price gouging (just my opinion)...so I turned to Yelp...great idea right...I started looking for bakeries outside of my area...and low and behold...I came across MEB Cakes...I called the guy and ask if he had birthday cakes and he said sure...but they close at 4pm...I made it there a little after 3pm...and noticed all the beautiful cakes they had on display...the gentleman described each cake to me...and I choose a beauty...he was able to put happy birthday and my wife's name on a banner...and it looked amazing...when we got home and cut it...the flavors were perfect...the cake was moist...and the icing was smooth and lite...all for $25.00...man you can't beat that at all...MEB Cakes has a new permanent customer...and you should be one too read more

I needed a cake last minute for my wife's birthday, so I jumped on the yelp search and found this bakery. I called them upon business opening hours and spoke to a friendly guy named Miguel. I requested for a cake I can possibly pick up within an hour of placing my order. I asked if he could fix me up a cake which can serve at least 5 people, has vanilla and chocolate marbling, whipped cream frosting, some strawberry cream in the center, and pink flower designs. Miguel had an ideal right off the bat. I went to the bakery an hour after placing the order and was greeted by Miguel in person. This man understands that in order to proliferate a business, one must have good customer service. He emphasized that you may have the best baked things in your shop, but if not sold with the best attitude they will never leave the shelf. Miguel shared his experience of baking since he was a child and he seemed like a genuine stand up guy. Ultimately, my wife loved the cake. I ordered my husband's 65th year surprise birthday celebration from MEB. The flavors of the cakes are delicious. During tasting I settled on two flavors. I paid for the cake PLUS delivery fee for the cake to be delivered to the restaurant the celebration would be held. The owner reassured me he looked up the address and knew exactly where it was. Mind you, I had been in verbal communication with them over about a four month period, as I would go in each month to pay down my balance for the cake. Each time I went in, I was reassured the cake would arrive between 1130a-1230p. I even had a couple of friends there by 1130a to receive the cake and I gave the contact info for MEB (just in case). Good thing I did that...the bakery had to be called regarding delivery. Guests arrived at 1230p, event started at around 1:15p. Tell me why the cake did not arrive until after the honoree arrived???!!!. Mind you...I paid, in advance A DELIVERY FEE!!! My friend said the owner was professional when speaking to her over the phone regarding the cake not arriving as of 12:30p and offered a discount on my next order....REALLY??? I will be going in to demand at least half of my delivery fee back, as, although it was delivered, but not as requested or promised. I think that is the FAIR thing to offer me as there may not be another opportunity for a next order. read more

I may have had a one off experience, and hoping that's exactly what my experience was because this cake company does seem amazing. The cake looked and tasted great, the pricing was reasonable, and the staff seemed great in person. However, there is a major disconnect between the person handing the emails and the person taking the order over the phone. I discussed wording and flavor in detail with the person over the phone that took my order and my deposit but received emails saying I didn't inform what the cake should say or the flavor. Which was obviously incorrect - but no biggie. Then there was a small delay when picking up the cake because the wording still wasn't written on the cake, but again - no biggie, this was no problem at all. The problem was when I surprised my father with the cake and we cut it expecting one of his favorites: chocolate with chocolate frosting but it turned out to be vanilla with vanilla frosting. Which is not at all what was discussed. This issue made me rethink the initial "no biggies" as just complete mismanagement of their ordering process when it relates to phone/email communication. I don't write reviews and I didn't intend on writing this one, but only am because how disappointing it was to provide feedback like the above to the company in an active email string but to never receive acknowledgement. I really wanted to make MEB my go to cake shop, and not that my business may matter to them, but they lost a future customer (and others that asked about the cake) mainly because of their customer service, or lack thereof. read more

Me and my friend were looking for some light sweets, nothing too heavy and saw this. The outside is very misleading and when we walked in, i was unsure but NONE OF THAT MATTERS. THE CAKES ARE SO GOOD. If they were located somewhere with lots of traffic, they would be packed or even sell out. The cakes were exactly what we were looking for. The cakes and cupcakes are light, fluffy, not heavy, very good sizes and SUPER CHEAP. It was 2$ for a BIG slice of cake AND a cupcake. The staff was friendly and they even do personalized cakes.
