I ordered two miso ramen with a load of add-ons to go following the epic snowstorm... it was positively delicious. Broth was balanced, savory and had the perfect aspect of heat... pork belly was cooked to perfection and I love how they prepare the perfect tamago (egg). A special treat is the saki flight-- Hayro is very well versed in his tasting note knowledge and origins of the featured sakis and was ultra kind, consistent with his execution of dynamic cocktails behind the bar. Love the ambiance, music is always on point and the bar set-up is ultra inviting... I prefer that over sitting in a booth. Rafael, the manager, was ultra attentive and very gracious towards me as a waiting patron... he even surprised me with a little KFC Bao which was absolutely magical with the sauces provided! Professionalism 10.0 and so endearing! * Takeout! Traveling for work, staying at the Marriot down the road.. I saw this place come up on a Yelp search as a highly rated spot nearby. I threw an order in for delivery through Uber Eats while I jumped in the shower. Took 30 minutes to arrive, the food was piping hot and presented beautifully, despite the foil and plastic containers. Overall delicious. The Saigon egg rolls are served with a Vietnamese dipping sauce fresh mint and lettuce wraps, and they were light and crispy and all the flavors together incredible. The KFC bao bun was a little on the dry side, but had a satisfying gochujang glaze with crunchy pickled veggies nestled in a soft pillowy bun. Kimchi fried rice was bursting with flavors and the creamy yolk from the fried egg added a velvety richness. There was a nice presence of bacon, fried shallots and scallion. Overall perfect. This was the only place packed on the street. Little did we know it was happy hour so half price on their munchie section plus half off sake. Mon-Fri 3-6pm. The ambiance is nice clean and lots of old, young, all kinds of people. The staff are super nice and the food is tasty! We got the egg rolls, sweet and sour ribs, the chili oil dumplings. Kale salad - this was a little too much dressing. Get the dressing on the side is better. We also got side of avocado for the salad which was great they gave us such big portions! It is very dangerous to have Mecha Noodle bar so close to me, as previously I would had to plan a trip to Fairfield, but now being so close to home, I might find myself signing up for their Frequent Pho Plan, Pho Sure. The menu is small but very appropriate and more importantly the food is consistently good. Their mushroom dumplings with the marvelous sauce is the best appetizer, and you can't go wrong with any of the pho's. Washington Street, the small strip in SoNo where restaurants are not known to survive, Mecha is not only standing the test of time, but thriving as one of the most, if not THE most popular restaurant downtown...and it's very apparent to see why. I started the meal off with two pork belly bao buns and it set the tone of the night because the pork was perfectly cooked. The ramen has been reliable since the day they opened so I usually get the Tonkotsu, but wanted something different so the waiter recommended I swapping the pork for the beef. 10/10 suggestion. The drinks here are delicious and pack a decent punch as well. Love this place overall, but my experience at this location was disappointing. I recently moved from Stamford to Norwalk and noticed a big difference in customer service. I came with some friends on a rainy Saturday. We were a party for four adults and two kids (one tot, one infant). We were seated at the communal table but it was a little awkward to navigate to with our strollers and high chairs. I ordered the vegetable ramen and the fried chicken baos for our little one. Others at the table ordered the tonkotsu ramen, and pho. My friends who ordered the pho said it was fantastic. Just like having a bowl of Pho in Queens. My kinoki vegetable ramen was probably the smallest bowl of noodles compared to the other three but it was full of heartiness and mushroom umami flavors. I'd definitely come back but probably best without children or kids because of the tight seating situation and the noise level was quite loud for even the adults. The spicy miso ramen swapped brisket for the chashu, the first 20 bites were fantastic and spicy, the last 4th of my soup just tasted salty and sad, super weird. My friend also reported her vegetarian ramen was good but then got salty as she reached the last 3rd. She enjoyed her boba tea special (reminded me of a horchata). We parked in the rear of the building, paid parking. The place is unassuming from the outside but totally transformative on the inside. It's longer than it is wide, more of a galley style. The decor, tables, bar etc are all themed and are pretty vibey. I ordered the chicken ramen and it was one of the best I've had. The broth was super flavourful, you for many pieces of well cooked chicken and all of the standard ramen toppings. Upon request, they brought me hot sauce which seemed house made to me. Drink was good, small and expensive. Red oil dumpling and egg roll apps were excellent. BF enjoyed his paitan ramen and as for my spicy miso ramen, it wasn't the best. Rich broth, very salty and lack the flavor of red miso, just wasn't for me. Got home and had 2 bottles of water!! Now, that's salty! Although, I have to say, noodles were fresh, bouncy, silky and delicious but I had better broth somewhere else. And chashu was flavorful and melt in your mouth tender. I love the Fairfield location. It always has the best vibes. From music to service and food, it never misses. The Norwalk location is the opposite. I went with a party of three. We got sat right away but our server. This short, high pitched voice, bushy hair man came and told us straight away how he doesn't want to be working, would rather be home or rather not, but how he rather not be there at work. Right away I knew this little man was going to ruin the experience. Which wasn't even more than ten minutes too. So he comes back, we asked for a recommendation from an old dish, the fool just kept on giving us more attitude. My friend and I decided to order while my other friend didn't due to losing their appetite from his attitude. After we sent him our order, I decided that I wasn't welcomed and I felt that he was going to do something to my plate. So my table and I got up, I walked over to him behind the bar, told him to cancel the order to which he had the audacity to act surprised. Which he then responded with "the whole order" like duh? And we walked out. This place needs better servers cause after reading some of the other reviews, I can see there's a constant problem. And to that short, bushy haired, high pitched voice man with a shit attitude, don't ask surprise when people meet you with the same attitude. Lower that attitude to your level of height. What a nice friendly small restaurant. Found this place on Yelp after looking for a lunch spot. The menu isn't big but it's perfect for a nice selection of ramen and pho. I ended up ordering the Pho Ga with chicken. Each table had little bottles of soy sauce, sriracha, and plum sauce. I of course spiced mine up quite a bit but the pho was definitely one of the better ones I've had. The service was top notch and checked on us frequently. This was our first time at Mecha. Nice open layout inside the restaurant but was a bit surprised that there weren't many chairs with back support? They have short little steel stools for customers to sit. Ouch ! Come on now. No regular chairs? Don't cheap it out and help customers feel a bit more comfortable? They do have a couple of back supported regular chairs near the side bar which we sat. The waitress Jasmine was friendly and provided superb service and recommendations as she placed our order. We tried the mushroom dumplings and wow (OMG) those were delicious. My wife and I both had the Pho beef/meatball soup which was also amazing. I wish they had chicken or beef dumplings. We went for Mother's Day brunch and found the place near empty. Food still great but one small service Flaw brought concern: Ready to take half of my Roman home for later enjoyment. I was handed a plastic container and an aluminum tray with lid. It used to be that when you made such a to go request, they took your lunch away, separated the noodles from the broth, and packaged each separately. Cocktails are very creative, menu has lots of range but isn't overwhelming. Also cool that they give money to charity for every bowl of ramen served! My only complaint, the service! Everyone is usually always kind, but they are never in any hurt to help, and you will sit at your table for 15 minutes before anyone comes to take your drink order. Mecha is one of my very favorite restaurants!! I've been so many times over the years across multiple locations and I've never been disappointed. My go-to location is Fairfield but I had an equally excellent experience at Mecha Norwalk. There's usually a wait for a table because it's so popular, however food comes out quickly and is fresh and piping hot! Service is always great. I order the same thing every time because it's just too good: Limeade, KFC baos, and Shoyu Paitan ramen. But everything is so delicious you cannot go wrong! Sometimes we've switched it up and ordered the mushroom dumplings or firecracker wings too. Their Shoyu Paitan (chicken ramen) is so flavorful and comforting. I added the charred corn this time and that added a perfect sweetness to the ramen. The must order item, in my opinion, are the KFC baos. The chicken is soooo crispy and it's topped with a sweet and slightly spicy sauce and cooling shredded carrots and cucumber. Amazing!!! Food is ok. Disappointed with the service. After years at eating at Mecha, I can confidently say we were the least satisfied ever. Normally I go to the Fairfield location and always have great service and food. As for this location, we had a bad experience with service from the start. We have a small child and he was sleeping in the car so I ran in to put our name on the wait while the baby slept. The hostess said there's no wait but we cannot be sat until the whole party arrives so I explained I know what everyone will be ordered and we'd like to avoid a cranky/screaming kid disturbing everyone. She still didn't want to seat me until I finally called my husband and told him we can go to our usual location. After this she finally sat us. Keep in mind, we came so we can beat the dinner rush and got there at 6pm. Once sat (without menus but that's fine since we have been getting the same meal for years) the server proceeded to ignore me. Since I realized he was not going to take my order, I asked my husband to wake up our son and come in. As soon as he walked in the server immediately came up to us without any introduction and said "just so you know our policy is you can't sit without the whole party here" and I once again repeated what I had already told the hostess and asked if it's ok for us to order now. More attitude continued then he never checked in on us again after that. The highchair we were given was broken to which his response was "yea they are all like that." We had to keep flagging him down after this , never asked if we needed anything, which we would've liked more noodles and ended up just getting it to go. Once we paid the server just placed his card reader in front of me then walked away with not even a thanks. The manager was busy so we did not want to be a bother as that's what it felt like we were from the moment we entered. read more
