Let me tell you, I've have my fair share of PCP visits to compare and so far the been 5 stars, can't relate at all to the negative reviews I've read. MedFirst offers Primary Care and Immediate Care services. MedFirst does NOT offer "Urgent Care" services. When you view the exterior signage, they specify their services as Immediate Care. Once you enter the office, there is a sign stating they do not bill their services as Urgent Care and it is on the patient/client to contact their insurance to see if the visit will be covered. Please be aware of this before taking your urgent medical and health concerns to this facility. In addition, as a primary care facility, Immediate Care Walk-In appointments are not the priority and treated less professionally. Upon entering the waiting room, the receptionist was on the telephone. The receptionist does not greet guests with any sort of gesture, physical motion, or verbal acknowledgement. After waiting 15+ minutes for the phone call to conclude, I asked if they were still accepting Immediate Care Walk-Ins (as the waiting room was empty). She said no and suggested a different Urgent Care in Surf City that was closing in less than 45 minutes. Entirely unhelpful, I gathered my sick child and drove up to JCMC Jacksonville Urgent Care where we were seen and released in under an hour for Strep Throat and Conjunctivitis with prescriptions in hand. If you or a family member require Urgent Care without the fear of insurance difficulties, please select one of the other Urgent Care facilities available in the surrounding areas. I had an appointment 6/19 at 12:30. I received minimally 5 texts/emails regarding date and time. I arrived 15 minutes early as requested. No one told me who I would be seeing. I was taken to a room and was told "the provider" would be in shortly. I sat there for 32 minutes. Mind you, the only other person there was a gentleman working on the lights. After 32 minutes, I went back out to reception and said that I could not wait any longer. I was asked if I wanted to reschedule! I requested my copay back (I had payed cash). The receptionist said she didn't know how to do that. She told me to have a seat and she would try to contact her supervisor. I told her again that I could not wait any longer. She said that she would contact the supervisor and find out how to do the refund. I said that I would be checking on that and left. Two minutes down the road, I got a phone call from the receptionist. If I wanted a refund, either I would have to go back to the office for cash or they would issue a check. I know that this is long but.... The reason that I could not wait is because my husband is currently in the hospital and I am on a very tight visitation schedule. I rearranged my schedule because I thought it might be important to take care of myself. I don't know who "the provider" was, but they clearly do not feel that my time is valuable. read more

If you're elderly don't go here I brought my mother here several times she has had to wait very long wait times with an appointment; your time means nothing to these people. She said it would be 195.00 for him today! 40 for covid test and a 150.00 for office visit. I said what about the 105.00 for returning patients..she said OH he hasn't been since 2018. He is considered a new patient. I said how convenient! Bare in mind there was no where on that paper attached to window ... where hateful woman sat , a cut off date that made you a new patient! But get this They said he owed $8.00 from 2018 that he must pay. Guess he was still a patient or he would not have had to pay ...right? So we came back at 1:45 , I have paid this God for saking place $195.00 it's 3:22 and my son has still not been seen. First of all I have to say how pleased I am with the doctors , nurses and front desk personal. They are capable of doing X-rays and some lab. Jessica Holmes is fabulous and we couldn't be happier with her!! The ladies at the front desk are par on and always professional and friendly upon arriving. This facility is not only a Family Practice for regular patients but also an Urgent Care as well. Walk in's are welcomed but please remember if you are a walk in to be patient there may be others ahead of you hence those who have made appointments. They are also able to do some X-rays here (limited), but I personally feel that's a huge thumbs up especially being an Urgent Care.. In house lab testing is also which results in getting faster results back when it's in house. They are open Monday thru Friday 8am to 6pm and on Saturday 8am to 5 pm... Keep them in mind if you are vacationing on the beach etc as this is closer for you to go instead of a near 40 mile drive to Onslow Memorial in Jacksonville. I had a problem, called my regular Dr at 8am didn't get a return call until 2:45 and was told nothing could be done today. I didn't think it was something that could wait overnight so I went to Med First Primary & Urgent Care. Wow!! I checked in and walked out the door 48min later with my meds. I am in tears. this place does not care about patients at all. I have a large mass in my breast and one in my abdomen. I have been trying to get medical care since 09/05/23 to no avail. I have not heard back from the PA as to the surgical referral. to really top it off, the front desk person in colder than a dead fish and is the rudest non-professional that I have ever encountered in a so called medical practice. I have written them in the patient portal online about each event (no medications called in, no call back from provider, no referral to surgeon, appointment desk scheduled me for urgent care visit in September for October ( ummm it was suppose to be for a established patient appointment ), rude to my husband and myself. if you have anything serious DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE. I am terrified that I have breast cancer with a mass the size of a golf ball but apparently, that is not a big deal to this practice. Do not waste your time! I've given this office too many chances to count. They've repeatedly left me without prescription refills after stating they had sent the prescription into my pharmacy. I've been left off my necessary medications for weeks at a time because they can't get it together. When I came in I was excited because the parking lot was empty - took off work to get checked due to an illness. Looked at the posted hours (Monday thru Friday 0800 to 1800). Neon OPEN sign turned on. Go inside and the receptionist said we are at lunch until 1400. Really? I was rather curt with her as "normal" companies take lunch between 1100 and 1300. Pizza just arrived at 1328 when they are supposed to start seeing patients again at 1400. We will see about that. read more

This doctors office primary "doctor" is PA Jessica. Jessica is a very sweet PA, she is always very nice, as is most of the staff. But after going here for awhile I realized she doesn't really know what she's talking about and doesn't fully examine people throughly. She's so nice but I'd say if you have any other options, maybe try them first! She sent me and other patients to specialty clinics only to find out insurance didn't cover them because the tests she ran weren't done correctly. I hate saying this because she's so nice but the specialist she sent me too knew exactly which clinic I came from when I called because I was the third person who called that day with a test not originally done correctly. read more

Bedside manners are excellent... however they need to get their shit together, I had an appointment on May 7th where I was told they were going to send a referral for an exam I urgently need, I never received a call until May 20th, I was told (by med first) to call the place and make an appointment ASAP, I called the place for my exam and they didn't have any paperwork on me, I called MedFirst back to find out what's going on, I'm told the referral has been submitted but we are still Waiting on approval, a week goes by and I call again, this time I was told the referral wasn't submitted until May 20th, the day they called me... I'm very disappointed, this is an exam I URGENTLY need and every time I call they make me feel like the impatient one when is their fault. I imagine the only reason anyone goes to them is purely because they are the only medical provider in town. Husband and I live on Topsail Island and thought this would be convenient as our primary care. However this office doesn't EVER answer their phone or return patient phone calls. I gave up trying to set an appointment for my annual checkup after multiple attempts with no return call. My husband has been calling for weeks trying to get his blood pressure medicine refilled before he ran out. He is practically begging in his messages, day after day, only to be completely ignored. They are also refusing to return the calls of the pharmacist who is also kindly trying to get this important prescription filled. He is now completely out of this necessary medicine and working to get in as a new patient somewhere else just to get his medicine. This place should not be able to advertise as a primary care doctor. The bare minimum standards of taking care of people is severely lacking at this location. read more

I called to make an appointment, and was told to just come in as a walk in. When I arrived, I was greeted but the receptionist who was very friendly. I signed in and waited about 30 minutes before being called back by the nurse. The nurse was not very friendly. She was very short and when she would ask me a question, she would not turn around to look at me. I waited in the exam room for about 20 minutes before the doctor came in (Jessica). The doctor was much more friendly then the nurse was. Within 5 minutes she told had given me a prescription and I was on my way. The facility is not the nicest, and like I have said the nurse was not very friendly, but overall my experience was good. read more

Needed an urgent care today for my mother-in-law, who fell and hit her head and nose. Drove her to Med First in Sneads Ferry, the closest urgent care supposedly open on Saturday (thanks a lot, Surf City). But no! It was not open even though the phone message, website and Yelp stated hours 8-5 on Saturday and we got there before 3. Lesson learned: go immediately to Wilmington and do not bother with Sneads Ferry. Based on other reviews of this business on Yelp, staying open for patients seems to be just too much trouble. This is a doctors office. As long as you get sick during office hours and have an appointment then you might get seen. This is not an immediate care or clinic. They say they take walk-ins, but again as long as it works with their schedule. We called, they said come in, we did and we're then told they weren't accepting any more walk-ins. read more

After many years of being a patient at Med First Snead's Ferry I have been referred out to internal medicine in Jacksonville. After a suggestion by the attending PA that I seek a new provider for my diabetes, I was referred out with out my knowledge, when I understood it was a suggestion and my choice to go elsewhere. This did not happen. I never acted upon seeking a new provider and scheduled an appointment for a physical at Med First. After confirmation on line more than a week ago that I would be there, I got a phone call 1 hour before my scheduled appointment to be informed I had been referred out and the PA would not do my physical. The receptionist said I no longer fit within the scope of the PA's care. Since when is a physical examination out of the scope of medical care when it has already been done several times before? There was plenty of time after the appointment was made to inform me they would not do the physical. One hour prior is just not right. This should not happen to anyone. read more

I attempted to utilize this urgent care facility today January 23. As I entered the urgent cares waiting room the receptionist did not greet me with the hello or did not say how can I help you. She immediately said do you have an appointment. I answered and said no I am new to the area and feeling under the weather. She didn't express any empathy and her immediate response was what kind of insurance do you have. I gave her the name of my insurance company and she indicated they do not allow my insurance at their facility and said we can't help you. I asked if she knew of a closer urgent care that except my insurance she said no but they are other facilities to the left or the right of Highway nine. Being from Chicago and not used to this type of unprofessional experience and I would not recommend this facility to anyone. Horrible horrible horrible experience especially for someone diagnosed with the flu by a doctor who I had to see virtually. I could not attempt another experience like that today so I went home and crawled in bed and saw a virtual doctor. Thank you receptionist at this facility. read more

If you decide to have this as your primary care, consider that you might have an appointment for 1 pm and will have to wait several hours if the urgent care line is long. You would be better off to walk from Sneads Ferry to the emergency room in Porters Neck. There will be a hundred excuses from the nurses or receptionists that forget that the glass is not soundproof but there will never be an assigned doc for urgent care and you will wait. I am headed to a primary care office where the urgent care money makers are not a priority over and over again. read more
