Dr. Peters has awesome bedside manner. I have been a patient of his for over 20 years. His expertise has been the reason why I also sent my daughter as a patient. Side note: I must agree with Ashley. Dr. Peters is a great listener and I had been having issues with irritation inside of my ears years ago and no one could help me. They just told me it would eventually go away. I contacted Dr. Peters and once I explained the situation to him, he took a look and explained what the problem was. I have been seeing Dr. Peters for going on 10 years; we first met in my early 20s. Prior to Dr. Peters, I saw many doctors who could not help explain or definatively identify what was going on with my body - I was loosing hair, loosing eyebrows, often covered in different sorts of rashes and/or hives, but according to an allergist I wasn't allergic to anything. It seems that a multitude of doctors could have easily biopsied my rashes or hives, but it was never even mentioned by anyone until Dr Peters examined me. Dr. Peters is a good listener. Dr Peters is very thoughtful in his approach. He didn't argue my symptoms. He took small biopsies of skin, which aided in helping identify an auto-immune disease that otherwise wasn't on my radar. I've read reviews that suggest he, or his office, often run behind schedule. That is true, I've seen him now at two different practice locations throughout the past decade and he often runs behind - I think largely because he takes him time to listen and address each patient uniquely. At times, I've waited over an hour to see him. BUT, I will wait as long as it takes to see Dr. Peters. That is how valuable I find my time with him to be. He is incredibly thoughtful and detailed. He never intimidates with medical knowledge, and takes the time to talk to you. I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Peters, his approach, and his ability to advocate for me over the past decade. I truly am in better health because of his care. read more

My experience with Dr. Peters was par for the course when taking a look at these other reviews. I arrived on time for my appointment and waited over an hour to be moved into a patient room, at which point it was probably another half hour before seeing Peters. He was perfectly friendly with good bedside manner, but I don't think his advice was terribly useful. He only spent about 5 minutes with me, and during that time gave me "quick fixes" to fairly serious issues I had seen other doctors about to no avail. He then sent me out to an expensive compound pharmacy for a drug that I used for 10 weeks, worsening, not improving, my symptoms. I can't recommend this office. The wait time and lack of personal care put into each patient experience doesn't make it worth it when there are so many other options in the city. (On the bright side, my final bill wasn't outrageous. But it didn't fix my issue; it made it worse.) read more

When Dr. Peters walks into the room, he brings with him a sense of care, calmness, and expertise. I would argue he is one of the best Doctors in his field. I came to Dr. Peters as recommended by my doctor. My family has fair skin, so she recommended an all over skin check. My appointment was for 3pm, and the wait was about 30 minutes but that's what I get for a late afternoon appointment. I usually schedule all appointments for 8am , or whenever offices open. His Physician's Assistant Leah Toppel is SO friendly, nice, congenial, and really makes the experience pleasant. She took down all my history and asked lots of questions, discussed long tern skin care with me, took some questions, and then Dr. Peters came in. He was great too. I could tell he was swamped, just by the amount of patients around, but you'd never know it. He took his time, was talkative and engaging, and spoke very clearly to me. Did a good job. Dr Peters is wonderful. He has a great way about him. He was very conservative in my care...testing less aggressive treatments first. My son and husband also see him and are very impressed at the amount of concern that he has showed toward them. The medical assistants/nurses and office manager have been great as well. My first impression on the phone with the practice was less than favorable. A staff person named Derrick is routinely rude, short and unhelpful. First off, Dr. Peters' new office is awesome. It's in this beautiful, modern building that doesn't feel medical at all. Plus, my fave Chicago coffee shop Asado is in the building. It's hard to believe, but there's even plenty of street parking. Anyway, on to the doctor! Dr. Peters has a perfect bedside manner. He's very knowledgeable and never rushes through an appointment. I have found my Chicago dermatologist! Dr. Peters is fantastic! To start with, I was able to get an appointment. My previous dermatologist, although nice (I think, I don't remember much about her), couldn't get me in for a few months. Don't bother re-reading that - you got it right the first time. But I'll repeat for drama alone "a few months". And I was already an established patient. Um, yeah. Also, his office is definitely run like a well-oiled machine - although that may have more to do with the office management than him, I appreciate it greatly and will elaborate... when you check-in, you give all your information and even your preferred pharmacy. And then you never have to utter that information again. Like you know how when you go to most Dr. offices, you have to tell every single person why you're there. It's almost like every person has their own medical "elevator speech". Well, that didn't happen here at all. Each person that comes into the exam room brings their laptop with them. They all type everything you tell them into the system. Very impressive! Technology that people aren't afraid to use! And then everyone reads that information before entering the room for the first time. WHAT A CONCEPT! I think I may have been visibly shocked by this. Then I actually spent a significant amount of time with Dr. Peters. He listened carefully to all of my concerns and we even had a significant dialogue about a controversial treatment in which he proved himself to be very knowledgeable. He was also very clear in his other explanations and took the time to really answer all of my questions. He wrote scripts in the laptop that were waiting for me when I checked out (pssst... well-oiled machine). Perhaps a bit more buttoned up than I was expecting (Dr. Peters, that is. Although Dr. Neill Peters is a great guy himself, the wait times to see him are challenging. I had an appointment scheduled 2 months ago and waited an hour and a half to see him after my designated time. On July 22nd, 2014 I go in for an annual body check , and once again waited 45 minutes before I just couldn't wait any longer and had to leave. Since he's the only certified Dermatologist at this location, make sure you've got a few hours of your day to cut coupons in the waiting room. read more

I have only had one appointment so far, but doc seems great. I was a little worried because the person who answered the phone and made the appointment was pretty rude. However, the other office staff is friendly. I had an early morning appointment and waited about 10 min to see him. His assistant was nice, asked thorough questions. He was very competent and spent time discussing my situation which I really liked...I hate when doctors rush and don't listen to anything you say. He was also cost conscious and knowledgeable about my insurance and what they would and would not cover. I will definitively be back. read more

I'm still going to Dr Peters, he's still terrific, he gives you exhaustive explanations for every issue that needs to be addressed, but now I have noticed over the past couple of years that he has appeared, to me anyway, to have become less short and has acquired a more congenial bedside manner. Not that he was unfriendly before--he wasn't that at all--but I've noticed he now seems less perfunctory even as he articulates with obvious great care the nuanced and actionable points he puts across to you. The worst Dr possible and the staff is horrible. Here's my story. I had to make an appointment 2 and a half months in advance. The day arrived and I arrived on time to my appointment. I had to wait 1hr and 20min for them to call my name with non status update in between. Finally my name gets called and I go to a room. Nurse Tina tells me that Dr. Peters is no going to be able to do a complete checkup because he doesn't have the time and that he can only check 3 things out of the 5 concerns that I had. What?! How is that possible. In addition, she told me to wait for the doctor to come in. I waited thinking the Doctor would understand the situation and of course attend to my concerns. 45 minutes in the room and no one shows up. I go to the nurses and ask for an update and get told "this is how things work here". After 2+ hours, the "eminence" Dr. Neill Peters never showed up and I clearly left. Staff is rude and unprofessional. As is Doctor. DO NOT GO THERE TO WAIST YOUR MONEY AND TIME!!! Plenty of dermatologists in the city read more

I had an appointment with this doctor at his old office and it still makes me angry when I think about the experience. My wait time however was not very long in the waiting room, but I waited 3 months for the appointment and they scheduled me at lunch break so the appointment took forever and Dr. Peters seemed irritated and hangry. Plus I was there for a yearly skin check and have a mark on my face I've been desperately trying to get looked at for 6 years now and he told me to make another appointment for my face?? To me that's super greedy. I've had a very hard time finding a good dermatologist in Chicago and I certainly will not be returning or recommending this one. Here's my experience today with Neill Peters and his office. I scheduled an appointment to see him well over a month ago and today was the day. I had a 10:30 appointment and got to his office around 10:15 to fill out new patient paperwork. After sitting in the lobby for a solid 35 minutes I watched the gentleman next to me get up and ask if they would be calling him soon because his appointment was at 10:00 and it was now around 10:50. The front desk proceeded to tell him his appointment was at 10:30, not 10:00. He seemed confused and sat back down. Shortly after this I asked if the doctor was running late because I had a 10:30 and had been sitting for 45 minutes. I was then told the very same thing; that my appointment wasn't the time I thought...it was now a 10:40 appt. Of course, I'm confused and begin to suspect they pad their appointments to make sure people are on time. I'm annoyed. Another 10 minutes go by and they finally call my name. They escort me to a closed door doctors office where I proceed to sit for another 20 minutes. After a total wait time of an hour and 10 minutes I decide I've had enough and walk out of the room, down the hall to the desk and tell them that I'm leaving. Of course, they just can't believe why I would want to leave. This guy may be a decent doctor, but I'll never know. What I do know is that he has no idea how to run an office or a business. This keep people waiting thing is commonplace in the medical industry because we tolerate it. As long as we sit there and put up with this behavior it will continue to happen. Why should my time be less valuable than his, or any other doctor? If he was running a restaurant or any other business, he'd be out of it. Enough. Good luck. read more

After arriving half an hour early for my 10:30 a.m. appointment, and then waiting until 11:35 without ever being seen, I had to leave to make an important business meeting. I won't be coming back. I recently went back for a follow up visit. I made my appointment early thinking that the office wouldn't be too far behind schedule. I showed up 5 minutes before my scheduled time of 9:50am. I waited in the waiting room for 10 minutes before being called back to the exam room. In the exam room I wanted another 25 minutes before Dr Peters saw me. He was in and out in less than 7 minutes. If you're trying to get in for a quick appointment, as I stated in my previous review, GOOD LUCK! It ain't happening here. Oh and to top it all off the old lady at the check-out desk didn't even have the manners to look me in the eye once. Sorry your life sucks, but don't ruin some one else's day. read more

I should have checked the reviews before going to this dermatologist. A two month wait for an appointment seemed long, but I justified that by thinking he is a good doctor and is in demand. They got me in on time, but the scheduler did not schedule me for a full body check as I had requested on the phone two months ago. The staff flippantly said, "you will have to schedule a longer appointment and he is currently scheduling two months out." So they mess up the scheduling and tell me I have to wait ANOTHER two months. I saw Dr. Peters and he seemed very knowledgeable, very nice. He prescribed some ointment and said that they will send it to my pharmacy. I thought that I could deal with incompetent support staff to see what appeared to be a good dermatologist. Work got busy and when I went to Walgreens around 7pm -- Dr. Peters' office never called in the prescription. So now it's a long weekend, their office is closed and I don't have the prescription. I waited two months already, I guess I can wait another three days... read more

We have seen Dr. Peters a few times now and eveytime we have to wait over an hour to see him , and we've noticed something, many people who arrive after us see the doctor before we do. What is going on here? If you're delayed why are people who arrive after us going in first? Just because they're caucasian? I've been going to Dr. Peters for approximately ten years. I trust him and have always been very happy with his care. Unfortuantely, wait times and appointment availability have become ridiculous. At each of my last few appointments, I've waited approximentely one hour (or more!) to be seen. Available appoinments for standard mole checks are more than THREE months away! Three months! That's ridiculous. I've recommended Dr. Peters to numerous people (all have been happy with him on a personal level, but upset with the wait time/appt availability), but will no longer do so. I've been to see Dr. Peters several times over the past few years, both for general skin checks and for advice on specific skin problems. He is great -- extremely knowledgable, very professional. I'd highly recommend him, except.... every appointment I have begins 45-75 minutes late. I've tried early morning appointments, and even then there is a significant delay. It's kind of bizarre, and really frustrating. Everyone seems nice enough, not sure where the malfunction is. What an amazing office and Doctor. I have seen Dr. Peters 3 times over the past 5 years. Yes, there is normally a wait of 15 to 30 minutes, but that is reasonable for any doctor. The office has gone completely computerized (though you can talk to people and are signed in and met by people). You are given access to your record and can send questions, or request refills via the Internet and avoid those long waits on calls. When you check out they have already received information on when to schedule your next appointment, if needed, or other follow ups. Also, he will not do surgery for the sake of surgery, as another dermatologist I visited had wanted to do (ends up it would have been dangerous, costly and in the end not needed). Dr. Peters is amazing! I have been to numerous dermatologists in my time and none is as personable and caring as Dr. Peters. He never makes me feel rushed and takes the time to thoroughly explain any medical concerns and procedures. He is not at all out to sell extra services that the patient might not need and, in fact, does what he can to help the patient save money on prescriptions and other medical costs. Recommended by my internist from Northwestern I saw Dr. Peters for a number of years seeking help for what I later found out was very serious condition. One of my other doctors Told me what they thought the diagnosis was... I asked repeatedly if Dr. Peters thought that this was my diagnosis. He told me it really did not matter what we called it as long as we just treated the lesions as it came up. He told me to " take a deep breath". What a sexist and disrespectful thing to say. I was getting nowhere and only getting worse facing surgery after surgery. I finally decided to look for a expert for my condition. At this point I had already progressed into stage 2 of the disease. I did call Peter's office and found out that he had in fact documented in my chart the diagnosis that I questioned. He failed to inform me and confirm my suspicion. The sad truth of the matter is that Dr. Peters was so uninformed and not capable of managing this dermatological condition. The years that I saw him with unsuccessful treatment only caused my condition to worsen. I have never been so disappointed and a physicians care and blatant disregard for A condition of such severity. He was not up to date on treating this condition. read more

I love Dr. Peters and his new office makes the whole experience as great as you could hope for! Like other reviewers, I was not a fan of the loop location. The office, the staff and the waiting times left a lot to be desired! Yesterday, (for a scare and same day appointment thank you so much!)I visited the new Erie location and wow! The office is new and clean and beautifully modem and there is a water station, wifi and play area. I didn't even have time to investigate, as I only waited for a few minutes after filling out my paperwork! What??? I had planned to camp out with my iPad. As usual Dr . I will never come back to this doctor ever again. I have been waiting for 45 minutes to see Neill Peters and I have yet to be seen. I just asked them what the hold up was and they said they were running "a little behind" and that there were still TWO patients in front of me. Over an hour behind is NOT a LITTLE behind. I left in the middle of work to make this appointment. The fact that they would plan SO poorly is infuriating. Doctors are not the only people in the world who are busy. We all have things to do. Regardless of the care this guy is able to provide me with today, I will never return. I have never written a bad review before, but I am so infuriated with the poor customer service here that I had to. Save yourself the time and DO NOT COME HERE. Find a different dermatologist. I have been going to Dr. Peters on and off for the past several years. I have a relatively severe condition that requires the collaboration between several other physicians. Whenever I go see a specialist in another area, they only seem to repeat what Dr. Peters has already indicated. Furthermore, I have seen dozens of dermatologists, and Dr. Peters is significantly more knowledgeable and thoughful than any of them. Simply put: It is extremely rare to have someone with the big University Hospital knowledge and understanding of cutting edge research, coupled with a private practice mentality and bedside manner which is rare in these days of fast paced medical settings. read more

After some very disappointing visits with other doctors, I visited with Dr. Peters. He is, like many of the best, hard to get an appointment with. He wasn't with me long (which was ok in this instance). He gave me the verdict. After some time and change of weather, my condition got worse. Instead of seeing the good doctor, I had a chance to see Leah his PA. She is super. She realized that my condition had changed (the diagnosis to be more precise) immediately. She gave me a long list of options and is patient and kind the entire time. I now just go to see her. I have absolute faith her talent and has really helped.
