A very different and interesting night out! But fair warning, I think you have to have that history buff knack to last the whole tour. You can download the museum's app before arrival and go from exhibit to exhibit at your own leisure. I would highly recommend bringing headphones. If the room gets crowded, it is hard to hear over everyones' phones. I would also recommend wireless earbuds, so you can share if you are with someone and can hear the commentary at the same time. Tickets were reasonable and they do validate parking for $8.00 which is fantastic for the location. I would give yourself a solid 2 hours to listen to all of the exhibits- you won't need much more time than that! Enjoy this odd but interesting experience! read more

I was able to take advantage of the Groupon that helped me save about $10. I'd totally say this experience was worth the $35 spent! This museum is very easy to find, centrally located off a Main Street. I would say this place is very fun and a great way to spend an hour! It's fun enough to walk through for the shock value but could also be an extremely educational opportunity. Each exhibit had small sign with a very informative description of how and when it was used. I opted for the audio guide which definitely added to my experience. Some of the exhibits are even interactive!! There's even some photo opps! Despite its gruesome nature, I'd recommend this museum to anyone passing by! read more

This has to be the worst museum I've ever been to. It has the potential to display incredible insight into humanity's troubled past, but instead offers redundant explanations of torture devices, and an audio narration performed not in an informative way, but instead like a counselor telling a ghost story to a group of Boy Scouts. If you know Spanish, another disappointed couple (also out $33 each) told me that the Spanish narration is not nearly as insufferable. If you'd like to actually learn about medieval torture, pick up a book or watch a documentary, because there is nothing to learn at this "museum." read more

They put a ton of effort and care into this museum. We figured it would be some gimmicky money grab. Far from it! We spent over an hour here listening to the audio for each section. There were over 50 sections! A lot of them are interactive. It helped me understand medieval punishments better... to a point. Humans are the worst. It was all truly shocking. Personally, I don't think it's for kids. It's all very graphic. We saw 2 little kids when we were there - one was around 8 and another around 5. The kids were having a great time. You know your kids best. Personally, I wouldn't take a kid under 12. The audio was through an app, so bring headphones. read more

Interesting spot for a tour for those looking for something a bit outside the norm. There are over 50 scenes set up with some pretty realistic mannequins and brief audio recaps of each when you use their app. It would be nice to have a video component to some of these as well, maybe scenes from movies where these implements were used, to add another level of detail. The museum is also a good stop to get out of the hot summer heat and I would imagine good in the winter as well. read more

This museum was better, and far bigger, than I was expecting. We moved at a good pace and it took an hour and fifteen minutes to complete. The breadth and quality of exhibits was good. I recommend visiting for sure! read more

Well this is the first time going to this torture museum since it's fairly new and interesting that it's open right next to the popular Chicago theater in the heart of downtown. A old college friend went with me since he was also into it too and I was intrigued. They've been open for about few months now and I only discovered this from Facebook. I finally made it a bucket list. The owner of this museum has two other locations. The original one in St Augustine, Florida and another one that they're opening in the near future in Los Angeles, California. It was a pretty macabre and interesting museum in regards to the history of torture. The reason why this museum was created is because the owner who is Ukrainian went to travel around the world to see such places but they won't allow tourists to touch the items. Reason why he created this museum is so you could interact with the objects such as the Iron Maiden, Sit in the electric chair, Pull the cord for the guillotine, and submerge a witchy woman in a barrel of water if they were accused of witchcraft. Other than that ,an interesting museum but NOT for the faint of heart. Do come here if you also intrigued fantasies of the macabre or thrills. I gave three stars because I was expecting a lot more in the exhibit but it was good. I haven't seen such museum displays since "Ripley's Believe it or not" Wax Museum and they had one in Chicago but they close that long ago in the 1980's and I never got a chance to go in and explore since I was a child then. read more

I'd give this place 10 stars if I could! We thought it was just a place to walk around and see medieval torture info but it was soooooo much more! Most everything in there can be touched, the mannequins displayed looked so real, and there was an app to be used so we could walk around and see different displays while listening to a brief explanation of what we were looking at...very cool! They also have a ghost hunting app so we were able to walk around the the museum and hunt for ghosts, detecting them on the app, then learning about their deaths via our EarPods. We had so much fun! Suggestion: go early in the day when they aren't busy. We got there right as they opened so we were almost the only people there and it was creepy as hell!!! Kudos to whoever put this museum together - they did a fantastic job! The staff was super informative and helpful (buy a t-shirt, they're so comfy!). Well worth a visit when in Chicago...if you aren't too squeamish! read more

It's hard to believe that these practices were once practiced and considered acceptable. It's makes it easier to appreciate the time we live in now.
