Ruggero is always hospitable and never forgets his club members as we appreciate his excellent vintner skills. I highly recommend visiting the winery and enjoy the various specialty wines alongside Ruggerio's pizza and pastas if scheduled accordingly. The winery is a little over an hour's drive from the Sacramento metro area but well worth the time.

The pastrami sliders were packed with flavor and perfect with their reds. The burrata peach flatbread was even better than it sounded. Creamy, sweet, and a great match for the whites and rosé. Chef Brian's seasonal tapas are worth planning around. Both the whites and reds were outstanding. The sparkling passion fruit and lighter wines had great aroma and freshness; the reds and blends were rich without being heavy. We left with some bottles. Do the vineyard tour to the top of the mountain if it's available. You get a ride from the lower vineyard through the forest and past the ponds up to the upper vineyard at about 2,400 feet. The views at the top are worth the time. Tasting fee is reasonable and waived with a bottle or better yet, become a member and get access to the special events and the vineyard tour. Reserve the tour and weekend tapas if you can. We'll be back soon!

We checked in at the front wine area and then went into the tasting room (which is in a wine cave). We were served by Elizabeth (hope I have the name correct) who took great care of us. There are so many wines to try (mostly reds) to try. We had been previous wine club members (didn't stop because of the winery) and knew all of the great wines to taste as well as try some of their current ports. Needless to say ended up with a case and really enjoyed ourselves. The staff are so friendly and the tasting in a cave makes it a unique experience.

Flavor-wise, the gorgonzola fig was everyone's favorite, by far. The fig, cheese and spicy arugula was just perfect. We held the walnuts. Tracy took care of us and we loved our tasting. Our designated driver was treated to an Arnold Palmer, much better than just his usual bottle of water. I thought their wines were pretty reasonably priced, even for non-members. You need to buy at least $60 worth of wine to waive the $15 tasting price - I appreciate that they put that right at the top of the menu so there's no guessing. The tasting was really generous with good pours so even if we hadn't bought wine I would have felt it was worth it. Tracy took great care of us, answering all our questions and keeping our water and wine glasses filled. It was a wonderful, relaxing day on the beautiful property.

But when we went into this charming little place, we were greeted by the friendliest mutt and a flying-dutchman named Robert :) Robert entertains his guests as he introduces you to a style of wine, very unique to the region. Don't forget to try some of his 10+ year old wines and ask him about the (S.H.S.Y.O.W). When you sign up for his "futures" and ask him when it will be ready. He will tell you "It depends on the wine". If he doesn't think it's ready he will let it age even longer to ensure you get an amazing bottle of wine every time.
