One wet and wild Sunday afternoon I was craving adventure and wine. So I texted my friend who is a member here and she arranged for a tasting and cheese platter. I have been here on sunnier days, most notably for one of those 5k runs through the vineyards, Dionysus Dash. Great venue for it! The grounds are beautiful and the setting which worked for a 5k, but is most appropriate for a wedding. Tastings here are by reservation only. I don't know the exact price, but the service is intimate and relaxed. The cheese platter was tasty with olives, cheeses and nuts. The hit for me was the 2016 Grenache. Nicely balanced and $34 a bottle out the door with a membership (now I see that wine.com is selling for $24 which is a bargain! Go order some!). The drive up can be a bit scary if it's not a sunny clear day, so take your time and enjoy the scenery! read more

I, myself am not a member here at David Girard Vineyards, however one of our friends is! He took us down here so that we could enjoy some of their wine paired with some cheese and hors d'oeuvres that we've brought with us. We've been to a couple of vineyards before, but we were all in awe when we arrived to David Girard. I just need to point out something: I don't think you need wine to enjoy this venue; it's beautiful and breathtaking. We walked up a path where there was a cute waterfall. But the view that overlooked the whole vineyard was simply gorgeous. The pictures I'll post won't do it justice. To be quite honest, it makes me want to have a membership at David Girard Vineyards. As for their wine, I'm no expert, but I felt it paired well with the food we've brought. That's pretty much all I can really say about that. If you ever get a chance to visit David Girard Vineyards, you'll absolutely be stunned with the views it has to offer. As for their wine tastings and other privileges, it may be worth becoming a member. Regardless, it was an unforgettable experience and a venue that I'd want to definitely return to. read more

We were invited to the winery for an intimate concert with Tom Rigney. It was so nice and well planned. We were well taken care of with umbrellas and comfy padded chairs. Enjoyed a red blend wine that was delightful. David, the owner, was gracious and personable as was the staff. They served ice cold water all evening and simple food to purchase. And, Tom Rigney and his Flambeau band was fun, personable, and offered some favorites and a few new songs. Excellent venue for a concert! read more

Parking is easy to find in their mostly unpaved lot. We came here for our friends Erika and Jacob's wedding on 11/3. Their wedding was outdoors and the reception was inside. While I cannot speak as to their interactions with the staff, we had an delightful time. Everyone from the bartenders to the bussers to the serving staff were engaging and friendly. It was an beautiful venue and the sunset views are spectacular from there. The outdoor part of the venue was well manicured and gorgeous. The only hiccup was the audio was an bit poor. The reception room was simple but elegant. Large wood trusses and large billowing drapes made for an lovely sight. The food was great for wedding fare. They didn't skimp on anything. If you're looking for an venue for a smaller venue this is definitely one to consider! The roads to and fro are rather windy so beware. read more

We set up a private tour, tasting and cheese pairing. We had never been and fell in love upon arrival. The grounds are massive with a quaint pond and beautiful architecture. We were greeted with a glass of wine and they had a large table set up for us, including a sign with our name on it, it was very welcoming. We watched a short video on the history of the winery then we started the wine and cheese tasting. Everything was absolutely delicious, worth doing again. The golf cart was broken so we didn't get to tour the grounds but we did sit on the patio and enjoyed some wine. We had the whole place to ourselves. They turned on the waterfall for us, so we got to stroll to the top of the grounds and enjoy the view. We purchased several bottles of wine, the GSR and a dessert wine. If you're a planner, this is a great place to visit and wine taste. read more

This was my first experience visiting a vineyard, and wow! was I blown away! I visited this venue for my cousin's wedding and you honestly couldn't ask for a more picture perfect setting. We arrived early and took advantage of this time to take lots of pictures with the beautiful vineyard in the background. I was not a fan of walking down the big hill to to reach where the ceremony was going to be held. The ceremony area was very pretty and intimate. The reception space was very classy, and all of the windows allowed us to continue to be able to enjoy the view. I had a chance to try both a red and white version of their wine and I was very pleased with both. If you are looking to plan an event in this area I would highly recommend this venue! read more

The exclusive gated entrance where one has to pull up and say their name through an intercom makes me feel so posh! Love it!! The best wines in all of apple hill are actually just a hop, skip, and jump over to D&G. I highly recommend becoming a member because you'll love their reds and whites (rare in Amador and Apple Hill) As you may know our region specializes in barbera and zins they also hold regular spectacular events. Who knew that in El Dorado County we would find this hidden gem of a place. The grounds are beautiful first and foremost, looks like it belongs in Napa. Make sure you book a reservation. The service was awesome, Rod is super friendly, very knowledgeable and a great conversationalist. He's so welcoming and we really enjoyed his company. The wine was really good, I wouldn't say we are super wine connoisseurs, but we can tell the difference between good and bad. All these things combined made it an easy choice to join their wine club. Wine club members get free tastings anytime you visit. They are also family friendly and encouraged us to bring our family next time. What a lovely winery. We didn't anticipate being able to squeeze in another stop on our wine tour, but I was so glad that we did. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I'm still learning about wine and all the different varieties. When the pourer said Coda, I had to ask what it was. The Coda Blanc was very refreshing. I envision sipping it out on the patio with a bowl full of fruit. The Coda Rouge is a very balanced wine. I believe it could accompany and bring out the best of a great number of dishes. Just attended Jacob and Erika's wedding this past weekend at David Girard Vineyards. The scenery is absolutely stunning, and the staff had everything set up nicely. There was a golf cart that took guests to and from the reception area to the area in which the ceremony was held, and everyone was super friendly. My girlfriend and I attended the Stargazing in the Vineyard. It was so lovely and romantic! The reason I didnt give this place 5 stars is because of the lack of service. There were about 5 women pouring around 8:30pm. All of them were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. After waiting 25 minutes I was finally approuched by the staff asking if I want 2 for 1 glass of win...huh? I had no clue what she was asking. Being this was the first time I heard of the wine I wanted to sample their selection. Which seem to be a problem because she made it clear to me that you have to buy a bottle or glass. Yet, I saw about 10 other people sampling the wine. Needless to say we got to sample 2 wines which took them about a hour to pour. Someone needs to let David. read more

I visited David Girard Vineyards this past weekend with some girlfriends. My family owns a vineyard in Murphy's and I love to see what other tasting rooms have to offer. This experience was far from excellent. We were ushered to a separate bar and ignored while others who arrived after us were served. Not only was the male server with the long hair, slicked back into a bun, exceptionally rude but my card was charged twice. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this winery. read more

I want to have my wedding here. My mom doesn't want to have port o pottys. So herein lies the dilemma. Oh well, shes the one with the control of the cash. GORGEOUS wedding site....200 capacity, minimum wine purchase (and I'm not in love with their wine...and its pricey). But as far as wedding sites go, this one is gorgeous. Roman style ceremony site with really clean lines, and large tent reception high on a hill overlooking rolling vineyards. Just gorgeous. You have to bring EVERYTHING in except tables and chairs and tent. So plan on having a wedding planner, or a big headache. read more

First of all, this winery is breathtakingly gorgeous! I had never been wine tasting in this area and having been to Napa MANY times.. I had pretty low expectations.... but honestly, the overall experience from this winery was one of the best I've ever had! Staff members Katie and Josh are wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable, and patient. We came in with a really large group and they handled us like pros. Josh took us on a tour of the winery and we enjoyed it very much. His passion for the wine making process and knowledge of the wines made for an enjoyable experience. Katie poured wine tastings for the other half of our group and she was very kind of pleasant, unlike the folks on our previous stop at Gold Hill. Overall, their wines were pretty good but what made for an outstanding wine tasting experience was the great staff and beautiful grounds. I would definitely come back! read more

Great venue. This seems to be the most expansive grounds of the wineries in El Dorado County. The event center here is a local favorite to host wedding receptions... The grounds are perfect for an actual wedding. Rhone varietals are offered here. They do a very good job with their blending (similar to French wines). The Rive L'Or is amazing! We bought several bottles. It can be drank now, but also should be good to lay down for another 5 years or so. The tasting fee is $5/ea. and is waived for each bottle purchased. The lake and rolling hills make this a great stop for a long picnic. read more

I can't say I shared the same negative experience the other reviewers did; sounds like the winery was overwhelmed and doing the best they could. I had a phenomenal experience. I am a huge fan of Rhone wines, and their's are excellent. Rhone varietals means not in your face big Zins and cabs, sorry, but more complex, softer wines like grenache, mourvedre. And complex whites like viognier, roussane. And they specialize in whats best in Rhone wines - blends. The winemaker/GM was one of the most hospitable and personable I met in a long time, David was very friendly and informative, and the hospitality staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and enthusiastic. A must stop in El Dorado, if you are a Rhone fan, or if you want to venture into newer territory and expand your palate. read more

What a stunning spot! Known for their Rhone varieties, it is here I first tasted a Viognier (and learned how to say it properly!! like vee-ohn yay.) They love having weddings here apparently, and you can see why, it is just gorgeous. Really friendly staff and fantastic views, this is a must if you are in the area. The winery was able to accommodate our large party with a private tour and tasting at the winery. We started with a tour of the barrel room, and then moved to a private area, complete with a waterfall and views of the vineyard. We tasted several wines. Many were a little too light for my tastes, but the Syrah was very decent. This is a new winery, so I expect the wines to continue to build and mature. The tasting fee was $5, but could be applied towards any wine purchase. White wines range from $15-22, and reds from $24-38. The wines were a little pricy for the quality, but in-line with any small-batch winery. This was a great experience, and I think over the next few years the wines will mature and I will be able to give a 5 star review. read more

WHAT KIND OF WINERY DOES TASTINGS BY APPT ONLY? guess you don't want visitor business!! If I could give this place zero stars I would. I am only writing this review to WARN OTHER BRIDES TO NOT EVEN CONSIDER THIS PLACE. I made an appointment at 12:45pm this last Friday and was told to wait at the gate and that someone from Wedgwood would meet my mother, fiancé and I and the gate to let us in the property. We arrived at around 12:30(we drove all the way from Roseville). NO ONE CAME UNTIL PAST 1!!! The gal, Darci I believe her name was, was extremely unorganized and unprofessional. So we began our tour of the property, which is very pretty. But after the ceremony they expect all of your guests to walk up this extremely steep hill to get to the reception!!! But she said "well if you are old or disabled we can take you in a golf cart but everyone else has to walk. So that was red flag number one. We then get to the reception site, which Darci had no brochures or pictures to show us about how it looks when it is all decorated. It was so clear that she truly had no idea what she was talking about. There is no bridal suite, there is just a room that is a size of a closet that can be used as (her words exactly) "just to put your dress on most brides come here ready to go". So that was red flag number 2. Also there is no hotel near this venue. Unless you want to drive 20-25 minutes and be at a mom and pop bed and breakfast that has 10 rooms. The drive to there from Roseville is extremely windy it made all of us carsick!!!!! For how much they include in their package I wouldn't trust these people with my money or my wedding ever!!!!!! So just don't even bother scheduling a consultation and save yourself the headache!!! I mean, unless having a extremely unprofessional and disorganized wedding staff is your thing. read more

We decided to visit the local wineries for our anniversary, I was very disappointed when we visited this winery. The tastings were not free and there was pressure to buy wine even though they knew we were locals and should have focused on our repeat business. Although their wines are decent, and the place is pretty enough, I'm only giving them 2 stars because of my experience and how poorly the atmosphere compares to so many other great wineries in the area. And they are seriously dog UNfriendly. I debated between 2 and 3 stars, but since the description for 2 stars is "Meh. I've experienced better." and that summed up my feelings, 2 stars it is. I'd been meaning to stop by this place for a while, since I'd heard nice things about them, so I stopped by spur-of-the-moment for a quick tasting one Saturday late in the afternoon after I'd been hiking at the river with my dogs. The grounds are pretty, although a bit over-manicured and sterile for my personal taste. They were setting up for a wedding and reception, but I drove on down to the tasting room. Inside the tasting room, there were about 4-6 other people there, plus a couple on the patio, and two women serving. Not real busy. I walked up to the tasting bar and looked eager. I waited. One of the women looked at me, up and down (--I was not dressed as nicely as the other people there and still had river sand on my shoes and looked like I'd been hiking, which I had), and didn't even smile. I politely got the attention of the other one, and began the tasting. I was essentially ignored -- she poured efficiently, but there was no friendly banter, or information about the wine other than what was printed on their tasting menu, and her responses to my questions/comments were terse, at best. The wines were good enough, although the only one that grabbed me was the Coeur Rouge, and I bought a bottle. I asked the woman if it would be possible for me to let my dogs out of the car, on-leash, anywhere in the vicinity, just so they could stretch their legs before we drove home. I respect that they don't want their nice grounds sullied, and I made it clear I didn't mind going to an out-of-the way or rocky spot, or whatever, and that I would keep my dogs on leash, pick up after them if necessary, and be gone within a few minutes. She said no. Now, is it fair to penalize a non dog-related business for not being dog friendly? Maybe not. But they just weren't all that friendly in general, at least by local standards. I have had such great experiences at other local wineries, where they actually talk to you, engage you, talk about their wines, etc. And many have asked *me* if I wanted to let my dogs out, once they saw them in my car. So while I'm sure many people will enjoy this place, and their wines, I doubt I will be going back anytime soon. read more

Nice looking winery in terms of aesthetics. They have several buildings and it does look ideally suited for a wedding and/or wedding reception. Wines were good, but not great. It is ideally close to where we camp every year. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about their wines. read more
