My daughter needed to hem a chorus dress in time for a concert this week. I reached out via Yelp for options and discovered the kind ladies of Medlock Alterations. I got a fast response via message from them so I decided to give them a try. They told me to bring the right shoes so they could measure accurately. I wouldn't have thought of that! The location is easy to find right off 141 and parking is a breeze in front. They have good hours, open til 630 and even open on weekend. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and her mom- by name since I'd made a arranged time they were expecting us! There was a really nice arrangement of masks while we waited to browse. Some of these were made with beautiful fabrics for formal events and in all the colors you could dream of. My daughter put on the gown for measuring and she was made to feel comfortable (this was her very first experience at a tailor service.) she was complimented on her look as well. The dress was ready in a quick timeframe and absolutely on time for our event. My daughter was pleased with the result- and attention to detail. The hem looks extremely professional. Went here because of the positive glowing reviews. Had a simple job, just getting a pair of pants hemmed. Not sure which lady helped me but she was very friendly. In the week or so between dropping off the pants and picking them up, I lost my receipt, so I went back prepared to explain the what the pants looked like. But there was no need, bc as soon as I walked in, the same lady who measured my pants greeted me BY NAME and had the pants packaged and ready to hand to me. They've been in business here for over twenty years and may be one of the first, if not the first, to start doing original hem alterations in the area. He bought suits Wednesday and needed to get altered the same day. The owner was very understanding and was very nice to take the order even though she had a lot orders due before Thanksgiving. Had some patio furniture cushions that needed to be recovered. First went to another local place where it was going to cost $900 to reupholster the cushions. Emily gave me a price that was about the same for the labor, but suggested going to Joanne Fabrics to look at material there. Way cheaper and found exactly what I was looking for. Brought the job down to about $650. Now the important part - they did an amazing job! Cushions look ten times better than they did originally! Couldn't be happier! Emily and her daughter, Jenny, were a pleasure to work with, also. Alterations are ON point... prices were WAY too much. Do yourself a favor and ask about pricing BEFORE she stitches you up. Secondly, NEGOTIATE. Jenny is AWESOME. She is very sweet, patient, and helpful. I came in with a bridesmaids dress expecting I'd need the straps taken in and the length shortened. She went ahead and marked for the straps the first visit, but since I didn't have shoes yet, she assured me it wasn't a good idea to measure for the length yet. I bought shoes and a week later returned. She already had the straps adjusted and once I tried it on, it not only fit perfectly up top, but it actually fixed part of the length just by that alteration! With the shoes I bought, the length was PERFECT!! I'm so glad she had me wait because it saved me a second alteration, time, money, & stress. They're also very reasonably priced. I had 5 dress shirts altered here, and they all were done very well and in a timely manner

Not a good idea for menswear alterations. Had a tuxedo altered here and, after trying it on a number of times and being shaky about the results, I realized that the midseam in the back had not been touched. Took it to a different tailor, who turned it inside out and showed me how much it had been shredded. Needless to say, I will have to pay for two different alterations. I do not know if it is simply because I took a tuxedo to a place that seems to mainly deal with dresses, but the workmanship was, as the other tailor put, "unprofessional". I think I'm the first bride in history that tried on her wedding dress for the first time with just two weeks until the big day. I had it custom made by Anomalie (another amazing company)... but got sick and couldn't try it on until I walked in to Medlock exactly one week before I had to leave for the wedding. Which gave Emily a very short amount of time to put in a bustle and do some other work on the shoulders and sleeves. She did an absolutely incredible job and was a delight to work with. She and her daughter seemed genuinely excited to help with my dress and had no problem working with my time constraints. Emily's work was flawless. The bustle is unique and gorgeous and she did detail work she didn't even have to do, such as repositioning pieces of lace to hide the buttons on the bustle and taking some flowers out of the off the shoulder neckline to tighten it without creating a seam.
