Kelsey unkindly noted that because she "specializes in color," she doesn't have time for the appointment unless I do a color service. What a freaking JOKE!! One of the nicest salons I have ever been to. I loved the interior design and the wide selection of refreshments. The pricing was very fair got what I received. This is the best haircut I have had in a very long time. If also helps that is walking distance from my apartment, and the were also hosting a blanket drive, and I love when businesses are involved in the local community. There are two reasons this isn't a five star review: first, the online system on which you book appointments is clunky and often doesn't load correctly. I was attending a wedding in St. Louis and wanted to have my makeup done as the wedding festivities were set to last over 12 hours. I found Amber while searching for a makeup artist, and once I saw pictures of some of her models, I knew I had to have her do my makeup. I contacted her because her schedule online didn't match with mine, and she quickly responded and was super helpful in setting me up with a time that worked better for me. Amber asked if I wanted airbrush, and I was nervous because I've never had it done before and pictures I've seen of girls with airbrush look super scary. I didn't want to look terrible, but she told me that she had the same hesitation when learning how to airbrush because of how she has seen it done before. She talked me into it, and she did a phenomenal job with it. She also asked what colors I typically use and am used to wearing, and I told her I'm a more neutral person and want to look natural. She said she can do that and do something "timeless" which made me a little nervous thinking that I would still have my normal look. She absolutely blew me away. You can see from the pictures that I look natural, but I still look so done up and classic. My eyes were done so beautifully that I wish I could do it myself! I even loved the lips so much that I emailed Amber a couple days later for the colors, and she emailed me back quickly with links to where I can purchase the product and the color she used. I received a lot of compliments on my makeup throughout the day. The bride and many girls attending the wedding had their hair and makeup done by a group of stylists that came to the hotel. Many of them (including the bride!) said that my makeup looked so good and that they wish they had done some research to find someone else that day. My only small complaint is that I ended up paying ~$125 before tip. The website said $85, and I knew I would pay more for airbrush and lashes, however I felt like that was quite a big jump in price. I looked so good that I happily handed over my credit card, but it would have been nice for Amber to let me know the costs up front so I knew what additional costs were being added. read more

Having called for a same day appointment and getting a recording, I none-the-less ventured over to the salon to see if I could get an appointment for an up-do, as I was in town for a wedding that night. No receptionist on hand, but I was warmly greeted by a stylist who directed me to another just-as-friendly colorist who explained they worked "by appointment" but she'd check to see if anyone could fit me in. Lucky for me that SeSe was available and led me to her chair. She asked me all the right questions and I knew immediately that I was in good hands. When I told her I didn't have any pre conceived ideas but wanted her to create what she thought was best, she took charge with confidence and seemed delighted to have complete creative control. I could not have been more pleased by the outcome. The up-do looked modern and chic and I received many compliments on my hair. Plus, not a single piece of hair escaped the meticulous pinning despite the heat, the humidity and the dancing at the reception. SeSe is a lovely person with a creative and visionary sense and shows a passion for being a stylist. I loved her energy and her approach. I had gone back to doing my own hair, so this visit was a splurge gift. We were introduced to Nina Lanasa who listened to what my young friend wanted. She gave some advice of what she thought she would like along the lines of what she was requesting. The results...were incredible! She brought her to a beautiful red color with highlights that added dimension and depth. The cut was also perfect. I have never seen a teenager so happy! Weeks later she is still squee-ing about how much she loves her hair. So naturally, I had super hair envy and had to book myself an appointment for my bottle black, thin, sparse, lifeless hair. I went in and explained to Nina that I understood she couldn't do much with my sad hair other than dealing with my roots and a simple cut. Nina, being the pro she is, knew better. After over 15 years of not expecting much of my hair she introduced me to a whole new world of stye, color, and hair health. She added some texture with layering to give my hair more body. She added low-lights to the black that gave dimension and a more healthy natural look without damaging my sensitive strands. I put my trust in her and she surpassed any expectations I thought I could ever have of my difficult hair. She also gave me great advice for hair care to improve the health of my hair. Jeni Wolff is a lovely #ladybarber with a bold personality at this upscale salon. Recommended for the old-fashioned straight razor face shave. She will even do the warm lather around your ears and neck if you ask. I went to Jeni for my summer buzz cut and she enthusiastically took care of me. She seemed to really enjoy working with the clippers. Kristen, the owner of the salon, does a good job with the whole place. Each chair in the salon is a separate business unto itself with it's own specialty. The atmosphere of the salon is nice and clean - lots of positive vibes. Such a cute, Anthropologie-esque vibe in a loft apartment, each stylist has a unique vanity for their work station which was really cute. They have suede ottomans to put your feet up while you're getting your hair washed. Nina cut and styled my hair, and she was the absolute best. She knew exactly what to do so it wouldn't lay funny or flip out. You tell her what you want, she'll envision it for you/explain what she's going to do, then she executes that vision perfectly. I also had her do my makeup for my birthday. I decided to pamper myself, and I'll never go to anyone else now. I told her I wanted a natural/nude look and that's exactly what she did. As she was doing my makeup she even showed me the products and explained what she was doing and a learned a few tips and tricks along the way! The story goes I was looking for a new place to get my haircut as I've gone to the same person for 15 years. I had some friends recommend 13th and it had fantastic Yelp reviews. While looking online I saw I could book my stylist from there! I'm a proponent of not talking to people on the phone so this was a huge + in my books. I made the appointment 2 days in advanced and showed up with no problem. Monique was awesome and took her time on my hair. She asked me what I was looking for and walked me through each step stating her opinion and asking for mine. She's clearly a pro and I pretty much let her do her thang. I've gone to both Kristen and Amber here, and I always leave extremely happy with my hair cuts. They are very attentive and take the time to give you exactly what you would like! The salon itself is extremely beautiful and I always feel pampered. I almost always have to wait at least 10-15 minutes for my appointment to begin, but this is to be expected in a salon. I walked in here on a whim and had a great experience. I was attending Yelp's Old Hollywood event last Friday and was looking for something a little bit fancier than my typical french braid. Luckily, I was able to walk in without an appointment and was seated in the styling chair within 15 minutes of walking through the doors of this cute, very hip salon. (Before I talk about my pampered experience, I feel like I need to precursor by saying that I have A LOT of hair! Many jokes have been made about my having 2 heads-worth of hair and occasionally in the commonplace humidity of STL, it has been known to double in size! I knew that, thickness alone, it would be a challenge for anyone ready to take it on.) The stylist was friendly and was able to create an Old Hollywood style for my mid-back length hair using a few pictures off my iPhone and some of her creative flair. With a quick wash of my hair, a blow-dry, and some extensive curling, bobby-pinning, and hair-spraying, I was all ready to hit the red carpet at Union Station (with a few tips for styling my hair in tow!) I would definitely come back to Thirteenth & Washington for a big event in the future, but I'd recommend making an appointment to anyone interested. read more

I visited Kristen for a consultation appointment. Her professional yet approachable demeanor made the appointment very comfortable. She had great advice and ideas for a new haircut with a low maintenance color treatment. After my first color treatment and hair cut, I received so MANY compliments on my new hair! I can't wait for her to style my hair again. The only thing I will call out is the location. You have to be mindful of the time you make your appointment. Sometimes it is difficult to find parking on Washington and you definitely want to make sure to park close, especially when you plan to be there after dark. Unfortunately, I have to leave work early to get there early enough and not worry about the parking situation. I wish she had Saturday hours available, but I believe they are set aside for special event appointments only. read more

I went to their website and found it easy to get an appointment. Jeni Wolfe was available for the time I had. I was greeted by a very pleasant receptionist who offered something to drink as I was 15 minutes early. Jeni came in and greeted me and sat me in her barber chair. She was great from the get go asking me what kind of cut I wanted. All I had to tell her that my last haircut was 1 month ago and away she went cutting. I was amazed on how well my haircut came out. This is one of the best haircuts I ever had. The bad news about this...I leave in 2 weeks and don't know if and when I would ever be back visiting St. Louis. read more

Kristen did my hair for my wedding and I cannot say enough good things about it. I got compliments all day and the fishbone braid turned into an updo was amazing and very chic. My hair is stick straight, fine and damaged (to say the least) and won't hold a curl to save it's life. She did my hair at 7:30AM in JULY (85 degrees and humid) and it was still gorgeous at 11pm.
