Check your heating oil bills you might be surprised, I was. If you use Budd Oil, Region Oil or any of the other Meehan owned companies and have automatic deliver set up you will find you are paying close to a one dollar more per gallon, then the Cash On Delivery (COD) cost. If like most you probably also have a service plan like me which I pay and additional $350.00 per year for to address furnace issues. I assumed that being a customer of Budd Oil for 6 years that I would be treated as a valued customer, instead I'm being gauged on every gallon they deliver. I figured that I'm being charged up to $1200 a year above what I pay for the service plan. The larger issue is they are being deceptive to customers with auto delivery by increasing the price per gallon arbitrarily, knowing most customers won't research what the real price of oil is on that day of delivery... Look into Budd oil, Region oil, Christy Halsey, and others they are now all owned by Meenan. Meenan and Petro are both owned by the publicly traded company Star GasPartners LLP. I'm not sure how regulators allowed Star Gas to make these acquisitions which has created a near monopoly in New Jersey and other states. Star Gas had a $6.00 stock price a year ago and is now at $3.85 which may be the reason for them pressuring their businesses to extract every last dollar from their customers..... All the companies have different telephone numbers but are all answered by same people (call center). I had my tank filled up twice and called Bud oil after each fill up pretending to be a new customer wanting the COD (don't use the phone number on the account as they have caller Id that links it directly to your account). They offered me their affiliated company ( I think the name was Suffolk oil) and the price quoted was 3.54 per gallon, they had just charged me 4.59 a day earlier. Both my recent fill-ups were at least one dollar more than the COD price! Over 25% premium. Keep in mind other oil companies are making money on COD prices, can you imagine how much Meenan (Star Gas ) is making by charging its loyal customers a 25% premium... I told them charging a dollar per gallon was taken advantage of customers and boarder lined fraud. They told me the extra cost is for them to run the program that tells them when you need to be filled up again. Really, how hard is it to figure that out - there is an App for that and they have 6 years of my data. They said the increase also covers people and staff for the 24hr response etc...I said I'm already paying for a $350.00 for a service plan and if I calculate my last two deliveries I paid an additional $500.00 over the cash price....which means based on a year of deliveries I could be paying close to an extra $1200.00 a year (100.00 a month) more for what ..somebody to figure out when to fill up my tank and come out when I have a problem. She then asks me what I think is a fair cost for those services. I said I don't know you tell me what it costs to run those services for all your customers as I would be willing to pay a flat rate upfront for both a service contract and automatic delivery - but then I want the COD price for oil ... just tell me what it costs so I can make a decision. They won't give you a price because that eliminates their ability to charge whatever they want per gallon without the customer knowing. They offered me a credit on my next fill up of 25.00! I overpaid by 500.00 and they offered me 25.00... Budd oil used to be a good responsible company with great local people and service until Meenan / Star Gas changed their business model. Obviously, the overarching leadership of StarGas-Meehan doesn't understand customer loyalty and the impact it can have when you violate and disregard that trust. In my opinion, Meenan is criminal in their practices. I purchased a furnace for around $9000 10 years ago. Due to shoddy inspections and maintenance being done, the furnace exploded and wound up melting to molten heap and put 3 inches of water in my basement. Not to mention endangering my family and dog. Meenan claimed no responsibility for the issue and gave me the number of the furnace manufacturer and suggested I should call them because Meenan (even though they recommended and installed this furnace) had no responsibility. Their solution was to buy another furnace for $9000 from the same vendor. After the incident happened, I did not hear from them for 2 1/2 months. For all they knew, my family was with no heat, no water, hot or cold for that long. When they did send someone to my house to inspect the damage, he was rude and insulting after rescheduling three times and being three hours late when he finally did show up, while looking for sympathy for a bad hot water heater at his house. Saying this to me while my shoes are wet from the three inches of water Meenan's heater poured in to my basement. I went out and had the heater replaced myself for $2500 and Meenan now wants to collect $250 for the annual maintenance fee for a heater that does not even exist due to their incompetence and this came from the General Manager of the company. If you are thinking about going with Meenan, please beware. There are plenty of other oil companies out there that are not going out of business and have an idea about customer service and decency. read more

Have had Meenan based in Tullytown. PA for 20+ yrs and have always been, at the least, satisfied and often quite happy with their service. We have a oil heater that is also about 20 yrs old and yes we have had problems but Meenan always fixed the problems. Without in almost every case incurring extra charges. We do have the Platinum contract but feel a little extra cost is worth peace of mind. We also had them install a new central air system and are quite satisfied. This last cold snap is difficult on the systems that most people have and Meenan gets overwhelmed with service calls and people get unhappy having to wait but Meenan DOES triage and in my experience will get out to us or give ideas as to how to protect yourself and property. However they need to add recordings to explain to customers what is happening during emergency type situations so customers don't think they have just skipped town. This is only the second time phone service was continuously busy or unavailable. The first time was after Hurricane Katrina I consider that an excellent track record! read more

My mother has used Meenan for over 5 years. Last year she passed away, but I kept the service. I have over $1000.00 in credit. I have cancelled the oil service because I let them install a gas furnace. I am now trying to get a refund of the credit that I have on file. When I called the woman told me to send a copy of the power of attorney. I sent that to them. Then someone else called and told me I have to send in a short cert from the register of wills. I did not have that much trouble when I filed my mother's income tax return and got a refund. This is my money that I have paid in advance. Now I have to jump through hoops to get it back. I also have been trying to have them send someone out to get a temporary oil drum off of my property that has now been used for the past 4 days. I am none too please with Meenan. read more

I have been with Meenan for 8 years since moving to a house with oil heat. I know oil heat can be expensive, especially during the winter months. Meenan though prices are not as low as on demand prices their customer service is top notch. I have had the pleasure to deal with some wonderful women in that office. My husband and I fell on some hard times recently and Diane from contract renewals and Ened from sales are amazing. They have help me and my family immensely. Though a bigger business these people still understand what it is like to be a family just trying to make ends meet and help they're loyal customers. This company does not stand up to agreements. I call yesterday in the morning and told them I am about to run out. I am on automatic deliveries. I was told that an email would be sent to the delivery area to see if they could deliver yesterday. 10 hours later no delivery soo I called them again. After waiting over an hour for someone to pickup I was told that they did not see any answer to the email and that another one would be sent to get a delivery today. Needless to say it is 4:40pm and no oil. DO Not Use this company. Lousy service. read more

I have had Meenan for the last 4 years and have been extremely happy with them. Today out of no where my heat and hot water stopped working and I looked at the clock it was already 7pm. I called Meenan and they had someone at my house by 930. John replaced the control panel on my boiler which had short circuited with ease. Even with everything happening with Covid 19 there was no hesitation. John showed up with a mask and gloves completed the task with minimal contact. I really appreciate the support! read more

They have given us the lowest price on home heating oil and also on propane and tanks for our new home generator. Called for service on Sunday early evening due to no heat after arriving home from a weekend away. Person who took the call was very pleasant and said a tech would be out between 7:00 - 10:00 pm. Tech (John V. #32) arrived right around 7:00 pm. He reviewed the situation and explained what needed to be done to get heat up and running. John V., Meenan Technician #32, inspected our oil burner and oil tank. He did a tune-up on the burner. He was available to work earlier than our appointment time, which was very helpful to us. He let me watch while he worked, and he answered all of my questions. He was very polite, and he was very thorough with his work. Got my heater tune up done today by JohnV37, in the process oil leaked onto my basement floor due to the aging of the oil line from the tank to the heater. My tech John who serviced my burner on 11/5/19 between 9:00-10:00 AM arrived as scheduled. He was very courteous & informative while tuning up our heater. Saw a tiny bit of debris in one of the "filters" & less than a quarter inch of water in our (550 gal. ?) tank which should not be any concern at this point. See I told you he was informative. We've been customers of Meenan since we bought our home in the early 80's. We've always received excellent service from phone call (answered by a live human!) to service technician attention to our heating needs. Although their oil prices might tip a bit higher, the attention and service responses more than justify an added expense. read more

Karl came out today to do the yearly check on our heating system and oil tank to get us ready for winter. Great guy, very professional and polite and explained everything thoroughly. Knows his job very well. Noted a couple of things to take care of but good service call. Meenan is a good company, we have not had any issues. read more
