I spent almost $14,000 with this company to purchase a new hot water heater ( around $3,500) and $10,000 for a hot water furnace. I purchased the both items from them brand new two years prio. I called the company to do maintenance on my furnace last year, the ma people either didn't show up or they called and said that they had other customers who needed their heating system fixed. After postponing , canceling, or not showing up at all, finally they scheduled a maintenance person to come out to do maintenance on the furnace and after the se person left the my furnace was pouring out water at a rate a full five gallon Home Depot bucket of water. I called the company and they said that's not the way the furnace was supposed to be functioning. They sent a second person out and he said m furnace is not functioning properly then he says " let me figure out how much we're going to invoice you ". I explained the furnace was practically new no one has touched the furnace that their people installed other than the person who allegedly performed maintenance on the furnace and the furnace was leaking water dramatically after he left and before he arrived and then after he allegedly performed " maintenance " the furnace was releasing water at a level of five gallons of water every ten hours. now second guy what's more money saying that the two year furnace that came from this company which was installed by their company was malfunctioning and they wanted money. I think this company are bunch of scam artist. they called multiple times a day soliciting maintenance work, demanding that they're paid upfront in advance. they don't show up for the appointment, reschedule , and then when they did show up the furnace is functioning worse than it was before they did the alleged " maintenance ", then they wanted to invoice me for showing up to fix what they screwed up. These were their prices: $3800 for a 50 gallon tank install and $6200 for an 80 gallon tank. But then they told me that I had to get the 80 gallon bc the wiring was not long enough for the 50. And I almost said yes bc I was desperate and didn't know any better. Yesterday I had a plumber install a 50 gallon hot water heater for $2100. There was no problem with the wiring. Adam Mechanical was just trying to take advantage of me and have me pay 3 times more than I should have! And so please be warned about what kind of company this is. read more

Zach himself (owner), came out to my house along with his service director They had installed a new HVAC system for me, but we had issues with adequate distribution to the master suite. They went above and beyond to meet expectations. Every service person in the past three years who has entered my home has been knowledgeable, thorough and respectful. I'm going to sign up for their plumbing plan as well as my existing service plan. This is my fifth home and I have had 3 different HVAC providers, due to differing systems ,( gas vs oil, heat pump, radiant electric) . Wilson Oil was excellent at my prior home, but switched to Adam Mechanical at this house with gas and a different set-up. Adam Mechanical stands behind their service people and their product. I called Adam Plumbing Mechanical, because we had a leak through my kitchen ceiling, from our toilet. They charged me $199 to come out, and said that it probably needed a new wax seal and a camera down the toilet, since they had no camera with them, they did nothing (except charge me $199) and came back a few days later with the camera, put a new wax seal on, and put the camera down the toilet charging me another $833, I asked if they could deduct the $199 from the $833, they said they could not, not giving me a reason; except "not how it works with their company". They told us it was badly piped and that is what caused the leak, then gave me another quote for $8506. We got a second opinion and the first thing they asked was if they had used an electric snake, as that would be the first step, (No) then they asked for a copy of the video from that camera. I called them immediately, and after giving me excuses, they then said they didn't send it because they didn't know which video I wanted, when I said send them both, I received nothing, finally I was able to speak to a manager and he said sorry there is NO video we deleted it, which sounds a bit suspect, since they never said that after repeated calls. I told them from the beginning, that I needed the video for the insurance claim. Needless to say, I lost trust in them, the other company came and did the electric snake for a total bill of $385, and it has been over two weeks now, and the problem is fixed. Basically, we feel like we got ripped off for $1033, thank goodness we didn't pay the $8.506, even though they told us we could arrange credit. If you have problems steer clear of this company, unless you don't mind paying exorbitant prices, which one of their employees substantiated, I won't mention their names, because I don't want them to get in trouble. read more

After waiting weeks with no response, I called for an update. Days later, the original tech calls back to inform me, flatly, that his supervisor simply said "No." No explanation, no follow-up, no courtesy email--just a dead-end rejection without justification. The technician who came out today to inspect my 11 year old heat pump was as patient as clear when he explained my options. Not pushy at all- unlike most other technicians who would sell you anything- especially when they are talking to a a " foreign" woman living on her own! DO NOT USE. Wanted me to spend $25,000 based on lies. After about 10 minutes with my boiler, this company fully tried to take advantage of me by showing me photos of what they claimed to be the inside of my Weil McLain boiler (spoiler alert: the photos were NOT of my unit at all). They showed me how "charred and burned" the inside of my boiler supposedly was, and insisted -- without even consulting the codes on the screen -- it had shut down because it was emitting carbon monoxide which they claimed could have harmed myself or my family, etc... Again, this was all based on photos that were NOT my unit, which they in no way could have taken in the time they had been there, and some of the photos had the wrong CP number. They said the entire system needed replacing. They also told me the water storage tank was leaking beyond repair and needed replacing (spoiler: it was absolutely fine and just the valve on top needed replacing). With all of this "information" which I will GENEROUSLY call "incorrect" (instead of, say, FRAUDULENT), they tried to rush me into this UNNECESSARY job...for $25,000!! The Adam Mechanical salesman who came out to give me the price tried VERY hard to talk me out of getting another bid, and tried very hard to rush me to commit to replacing this system. Also, don't believe for one second that they are a "small, local, family business." They are owned by SILAS, a huge corporation. Luckily, I got that second opinion, and that second company (actually small, local, family owned) did a thorough, honest assessment and REPAIRED my system for under $2,000. That was 6 weeks ago, and it's working like a dream. I am outraged and disgusted that Adam Mechanical tried to scam me like this. They should not do this to people. There is at least one other review of this same company with a very similar story of trying to charge thousands upon thousands for work that is NOT NECESSARY. This was our first time trying Adam Mechanical, and we couldn't be more pleased. Our water heater failed, and even following the snow storm yesterday, they sent a technician out almost right away. Our technician, Mike, was knowledgeable and courteous. After defining the problem (needed a new one), he discussed our options and prices. After we settled on an option, he said we'd be scheduled for installation in two day. Again, we couldn't be more pleased with the service and the response time. Hopefully, we won't have any further issues, but if we do, we'll definitely use Adam Mechanical again. Highly recommed them. read more

We used Adam Mechanical for heating and air conditioning service for several years. They are technically competent in heating and air conditioning, but not for plumbing. We stopped using them because their pricing scheme is a rip-off. We were greatly overcharged on a couple of occasions and when I protested, they refused to reconsider. They price according to the type of task, also called "flat rate" pricing, regardless of how easy or difficult the task may be in a particular customer's system. The alternative scheme is called "time & materials" pricing under which a customer is charged for the exact amount of labor and materials the specific customer's problem actually entailed. In one instance, a task took the Adam technician 45 minutes to replace a $100 part in my heating system, but they charged me over $1,000! (It was an emergency, so I didn't have time to get estimates from other contractors.) Under time & materials pricing, the job would have cost maybe $500. A flat rate pricing scheme enables a contractor to give the customer a fixed price immediately, but that's the only benefit -- which is not much of a benefit when the fixed price is double what a task should cost. Bottom line: DO NOT USE ADAM MECHANICAL, or any other contractor that uses flat rate pricing, for that matter. read more

How it started...I had a clog in my sewer line. I called Adam Mechanical to ask if they can snake a sewer line. The office said yes it will be min. of $195 for appt. The tech showed up and advised me he did not have the equipment to snake my line. I had an active water leak which we had to continually bale the water. The tech reached out to their drain person who showed up to snake my drain. He cameraed my line and "showed" me a crack in my pipe leading to the street. He told me I also have a crack in my pipe under my house which didn't make sense because he did not camera the line going toward the house. He explained they would need to jackhammer my laundry room & family room floors and rip up my carpet to access the pipe. Additionally my expensive ornamental trees would be destroyed when they trench through my landscaping. I was informed it would be $20,000 (quote attached). I paid them $805 for them to snake my line. The following day, Adam called me and told me they don't have to do the section under the house (No one at Adam's ever looked at the pipe under the house). He said he could '10 of pipe outside for $13,500. Adam proceeded to call me daily even today on a Saturday morning Adam called again to secure this fake job. Meanwhile I called a reputable company who came out and cameraed my line from the trap to the street and patiently showed me there were no cracks in the pipe. To be sure there were no additional issues, they pulled my toilet and snaked my drain back to the trap. Again, no cracks. This REPUTABLE company told me they see this over and over again. Adam Mechanical attempted a money grab by telling me if I do not address my damaged pipes I will experience poop throughout my first floor and will need to hire a restoration company if I wait on this repair. I am outraged! It cost me $120 to find out I was being scammed. Best $120 I have ever spent!! read more

Having not renewed my HVAC post-installation complimentary service contract with Adam Mechanical [A_M], and not yet signed up with a different service provider, I recently decided to replace the air filter myself, which I had done with my previous system. However, because I encountered an appallingly installed, side folded, bent, air-flow reversed and improperly sized air filter wedged beyond the visible filter rack, as placed by the A_M serviceman, this turned into a lengthy project, which deserves sharing. When I initially looked at the filter opening, there was no visible filter, such that I thought the HVAC system had been left without any filter, recalling that the last serviceman had the audacity to tell me that I should buy and replace the filter myself because he didn't have the properly sized one with him. The service notes simply stated "checked filter". Although the correct filter size of 20x24x1 was written on the outside of the ductwork, because there was no evident filter for me to confirm the replacement size, I also measured it, and noted the manufacturer label. This filter size is not commonly stocked in stores, being unavailable at Lowe's, Home Depot and Ace, such that I had to order it from Amazon for one-day delivery. After dropping the new filter into the rack, because I was concerned about the presumed absence of any filtration for months, I looked up online documentation about HVAC systems and viewed YouTube videos about air filters. That prompted me to remove the furnace/air handler door, where to my dismay, I could see a different filter than I had just inserted. It turned out to be an overly large 20x 25x1 filter, folded on itself at the far side edge, bent and wedged in between the outside wall and the track of the filter rack, which is why it wasn't visible from the filter opening, and why the new filter easily dropped in. Incredibly, it was also incompetently incorrectly oriented to the airflow. In order to get the old one out, I had to cut and mangle it, which then necessitated that I vacuum the inside. Moreover, I further discovered that the contract had itemized "filter slot" RXGFCD, which appears online as a Rheem 16x25x1 filter rack, slide out style, with a side door, whereas a generic 20x24x1 open top drop-in filter rack was actually installed. Dan came out last week to repair the A/C and said he found a leak. We paid $761 for leak sealant and added refrigerant. He returned a few days later for a quick check and declared no leak. Over the weekend, the A/C stopped and Service Manager Mike came out this morning. He found an obvious leak next to the unit and slight bend in the copper tubing that he said shouldn't be there. It appeared the leak wasn't sealed and Dan must have overlooked it during his check. Moreover, Dan had mentioned nothing about the bend next to the unit. Mike said it would take at least 3-4 hours to fix and "wasn't going to be cheap." I asked first for a refund of the $761 since the leak wasn't repaired and the refrigerant leaked back out. However, Mike refused and said the $761 was only to "find" the leak! I told him I will file to get the money back in small claims court. Owner Zack Samuel called and agreed to send a refund check in 1-2 days, although he reiterated that the payment was only to "find" the leak and not to repair it. He said the receipt doesn't use the word "repair" and maybe that will be clarified in the future. However, the receipt does use language like "stop the leak," "leak seal," "added leak sealant." The receipt says nothing about paying to find a leak. Who would pay $761 just to "find" a leak??? Beware that this company may try to add charge on top of charge, instead of standing by their work. read more

Since our father is 90 years old and not in the best of health, and with hot weather on its way this week, Don said his technician would be out today. Jim the technician sent us a text message with his picture saying he was on his way. He arrived with proper face mask, gloves and shoe coverings. He promptly diagnosed the problem and fixed it. I was referred to Adam Mechanical by my management company(they are walking on thin Ice) for furnace maintenance and cleaning. Their tech. came to a working furnace and did a carbon monoxide text and flagged the furnace and turned it off, he told my management guy that I needed a new furnace and the one I had was un-fixable and it would run me just under 6000.00. When I started to ask question because I know a couple of heating repair men they said was the furnace broken (no) was the carbon monoxide coming into the house (no) and do you have blow heat (radiator). I decide to get a second opinion from Christian Alliance Contractors Inc. Mr. Allen Ellis owner came in checked everything, cleaned the furnace and the furnace has never run better for much much much less than 6000.00. Adam Mechanical charged me 100.00 for nothing. Adam Mechanical sent someone out on a cold and snowy Saturday to look at why my heat pump was constantly on aux heat. The house was warm enough but that was killing my electric bill. The only people happy were the folks at PECO. Ricardo came out and found that the unit needed some minor maintenance and, before long, it was functioning as normal. We contracted with Adam Mechanical to install a high-velocity AC system in our 3-story Dutch colonial home. After spending a miserable first summer there last year with no AC, we decided to call up Adam Mechanical as they came highly recommended by people we know and have excellent reviews. Our house was built in 1923 and has radiant heat, so there was no existing duct-work. Perry visited our home and determined that high-velocity would be the best option for us, walked us through where the air handler, unit, and ducts/vents would likely be installed (he explained that there could be some slight modifications to this as the team got in and found other solutions that would be more efficient) and formulated a quote and scope of work for us. We felt that the quote was reasonable, and liked that they were able to start the following week and would only need 4 days. Perry, as well as the team who did the work, were all very professional, arriving on time each day, and made a point to keep our home clean by using floor protectors and shoe covers. The work took 4.5 days, so very close to the quoted 4 days, and they were done by midday on day 5. The air handler was installed in the unfinished part of our 3rd floor (attic space); we explained that we would like to finish this area someday, so they were able to keep the air handler and tubing around the perimeter so we will still have this option. The majority of the duct tubes were able to be run through our closets (they are small and really don't take up closet space) with only one area of tubes being visible in our guest room (will be easy to cover with a soffit though). AM's attention to detail & aesthetic was great; along with keeping the duct tubes hidden in closets for the most part, the tube that runs from the attic air handler to the outdoor unit was nicely covered and made to resemble a gutter. We've only had to turn on our air once so far this year, but it seems to be functioning as expected and cooled down our house in a short time. I would definitely recommend AM to anyone in the area who is looking to install AC, especially in an old home! read more

The tech also provided a lot of useful maintenance information and adjusted the air/gas mixture. Unknown to me our furnace was producing very high levels of CO2 which the tech fixed. They were able to schedule me for the day after I called. The plumber arrived within the window promised and fixed the issue without issue. He wore booties inside the house and cleaned up nicely. The only gripe is that they were more expensive than my other regular options (by 2x over one and 30% more than the other). But they do quality work and were able to meet my time frame.
