Megabus employees will rob you. They play games with the tickets ask you for money and when you refuse they tell you that you can't travel. I shall never, and I mean, never ride the Mega Bus again. My trip from CLT to DC was just horrible. Way too many stops for me; 20 minute break, Raleigh/Durham, and Richmond. The bus arrived late, the seats are very uncomfortable and the wifi was nonexistent. I was forced to read a book to keep my sanity. In addition, the bus driver started yelling "Wake up, EVERYBODY" when we were in Raleigh. He said we need to be up when the new people got on the bus. I caught the bus from CLT at 11 PM at night so this means he woke everyone up at 1 am, in order for 3 people to get on the bus. How rude!! read more

Went from NYC, to DC, to Charlotte, for.......wait for it...............a total, with taxes & fees...of $14.00. Yes, you read that right. $14.00. Booked 5 weeks in advance. Do yourself a favor, and don't even think of Megabus as a means to travel. My sister came to visit me for the holidays and was set to leave on the Megabus on Saturday at midnight. The bus drove for about 25 min and it started raining. The windshield wipers did not work so the driver pulled over. Megabus had my sister on that bus waiting until 5 :30 am for another bus. Will she get her money back? No, however they have apologized over email. This is not the first time this has happened. One Christmas my niece needed to get back home and the bus simply never arrived. There was supposed to be a 1/2 price trip for that but I don't know how to go about redeeming that. I don't think I will ever take this bus and I will advise everyone not to as well. read more

We accidentally purchased a ticket within the 3 hour limit and they would not reimburse us or allow us to reschedule our trip. Something about "terms and conditions" which only came to light after we purchased the ticket. This is unforgivable! Every credit card purchase is reversable! Excuse me! They are in Dominican Republic this is not an American company. Megabus rocks! Double decker bus w 2 aisles of 2 seats each. Seats are plush, comfy, and clean - better than regular movie theaters but not as swanky as the Epicentre theater or Ballantyne Village's. Free wifi yes. A few friends have told me sometimes the wifi is down on certain buses. Ample leg room. I saw a dude stow his duffle bag under the seat in front of him and used the little foot rest thing for his feet. 1 outlet per seat but if no one sits next to you - hey, haaay! read more

The Megabus is an experience! But for an inexpensive ticket it's definitely worth it! If you are the first group they pick up you have your choice of seats, I recommend the ones downstairs with the table. Since they offer WiFi and an outlet for each seat you can get a lot of work done or play a lot of games during your trip. The leg room is great and they make a stop at a really nice gas station/rest stop with a McDonald's attached. Overall for the money its a great deal. read more

I used Greyhound buses before. My experience was mixed. That was long time back. I don't remember the details. I feel Megabus compared with Greyhound, is better. Traveling by Megabus is not bad depending on many factors. I took a bus from Charlotte to Washington DC, and back on a weekend. I got a good deal on the price for this trip. My trip was overnight. Here are the few things about my trip. Wi-fi was functional during the trip. One can't stream videos. I can understand why. Seats are reclining and comfortable. The bus was clean. It's a double decker bus. Oh! I love the double decker buses so much. Restroom is in the bus which is great. You know, when you got to go, you got to. The drivers are knowledgeable, and polite. They make regular announcements. The stops were extended so there was enough time to walk outside and take some fresh air. I was not carrying any luggage but there is ample of space for the luggage which is one checked in bag per person. There was enough space under the seats for my small backpack and tripod. I could comfortable put my feet even with the backpack underneath the seat. Few issues I experienced on the trip. The young teenager behind me was playing music very loud, and I could hear it even though he was using his headset. I wonder how loud the music would be feeling in his ears. It was difficult to convince him to lower the volume. It became unbearable for me to fall sleep after Durham. I have to move to other seat at Richmond. I could get couple of hours of good sleep after that. So it depends who is your co-passengers. I would not sit around young kids or teenagers, next time. I think it's just difficult to reason with them. On the way back from Washington DC, the heater was on in the bus. From Washington DC to Richmond, I tried very hard to get some sleep in the dry and hot condition. I have to take all my layers off, even that did not help. Outside it was chilly, but inside it was very hot. I informed driver about the temperature upstairs when we arrived at Richmond. He told me that he can't change the temperature as the controls are locked. When the bus was moving I put my head and back on the glass window, that helped to get some cold from outside through the glass. But it was difficult throughout the trip to sleep in the heat and dry temperature in the bus. It wasn't a fun ride. Considering the price for the distance covered, with all the facilities provided, I think Megabus is great. read more

This was a terrible and uncomfortable bus ride from Charlotte to Atlanta. We had no heat on our 4 hour journey. Driver said he does not control the heat, but his cabin area was nice and toasty. Email sent to Megabus let's see if they respond and compensate. read more

At for Megabus, you get what you pay for: buses can be an hour late, WiFi is slow-slow-slow (an hour to download The New York Times to my tablet), surly baggage handlers who will lose your bag. If you're lucky, you won't be on the bus that catches fire as happened on the bus that catches on fire, as happened in 2012. read more

My grandson and I caught the bus from Richmond to Charlotte NC at 1:30am on Christmas Eve.The bus was on time however my grandson had to sit on my lap all the way to Durham what an uncomfortable ride being that I worked the day before. My son paid for two seats which were thirty dollars. No one should have to ride like that when u spend your money. I deserve a refund or a complimentary ticket for two. My first experience with Megabus was not pleasant. Granted the trip was smooth (no accidents or break downs). The driver was not very pleasant at all. She was constantly yelling at us like we were kids and trying to coral us like cattle. If she had a pleasant attitude I would say the experience was great. I was slightly let down by the service provided my 2nd time around on this trip. So I think it will be a minute before I will ride MegaBus. On my trip out of town, the phone charger on the side of the seat did not operate. Needless to say I had to shit off my phone after noticing my cell wasn't charging. That's was to reserve the 20% left upon my arrival so, my ride could find me. I actually was surprised too that this particular bus was making stops before arriving to my destination. Guess I should be glad that there was only 1 stop in between my origin & destination, as this bus was making 3 other stops before its final destination to Washington, DC. I was also, surprised to discover that the drop location at my destination was not downtown like when I came on my last visit. The most scary part was the bus dropped us at a location that does not have an actual address. Thank God my niece was a little familiar with the streets near the train station as its really in the middle of no where. No land marks (ex; like Quiktrip or Starbucks etc) to provide to your party picking you up. Last but not least...on my departing trip...I arrive 6mins before bus was scheduled to leave so, I thought it left early. However, after asking a few folks that were outside waking w/luggage, they told me it was late. So I patiently waited but, after 30mind of waiting & bus never showed...I decided to call the 877# for an update. At which time I was informed that the bus was running behind. I asked when would the bus arrive & they said instead of 6:50pm...the bus would now be arrivjng about 8:22pm. My issue with this is. Over an hour delay and there was NO email or text notification that there was any delay. Which is unacceptable! Thank God the phone charger on my return is working. But I fully don't think I'll be utilizing a service I oh so bragged about to friend & highly appreciated...no I will not be using anytime soon. Bummer!! read more

Not even on the bus yet and already extremely disappointed. I purchased a ticket for 12:05pm and when called, they said there must've been a typo and the bus is supposed to arrive at 12:50. It's currently 12:55 and I'm livid. I've been at this stop waiting for at least 2 hours now. The price can't be beat, but this is my first and perhaps last time ever using Megabus. I know what you're thinking. Only the people who have had the worst experience ever go on these websites and post reviews. While that may be somewhat true, there is a reason they do so. I thought the same thing, didn't listen to reviews and ended up regretting it in the end. Taking megabus is a huge risk. It might be on time, but most likely will not be. The most recent example of this for me was last night, I scheduled a 10pm bus so that my friend wouldn't have to drop me off at the 1:46am amtrak train. I was there at 945pm. At 10:20, we received an email saying that the bus was delayed 60-90 minutes. This in itself is annoying, but to send it AFTER the bus was already supposed to be there?? What's the point of that? So okay, one hour, not terrible but now I'm sitting on the side of the road. No benches, no overhang, no idea when this bus is coming. One hour passes. Two hours passes. A megabus pulls up and drops people off a little down the stop. We all yell in excitement. Then the bus just drives right past us, even though the heading on the bus tells us that it's our bus. I am raging at this point. Three hours passes. We get an email that says they are refunding our money. Another woman says that this means the bus is never going to come or is cancelled at this point. Three and a half hours after the bus is supposed to be there, I hop in a cab, get to the amtrak station and get home. Last night there were over 40 people waiting on the side of the road for over 4 hours. I don't know if the bus ever came. I know you're saving money and I certainly understand that but if you have somewhere to be, this is am extremely risky choice. I have only taken the bus a handful of times but every time it has been a half hour or more late. As with any business, I'm sure some people have good and some have bad experiences but last night was my living nightmare. I would strongly caution anyone against taking the megabus. This rip off enterprise does NOT offer what they advertise. Bus consistently does not even show up and when trying to get refund, they will argue what time it got there, if at all!! Refunds take 10 days, by mail, if at all. They can never tell you where the bus is, why it is late, when it will arrive, etc. No clue how they stay in business. I love the Mega Bus my job is out of Charlotte, but I live in Atlanta. Since they started making trips between the two cities I've been on that bus. It's a no frills straight shot ride with WiFi and a bathroom. You can't imagine the savings I have occurred over just the last four months. If you book your trips way inadvance you will get significantly reduced pricing even $1 dollar (yeah I've paid it a couple of times). For me It's not only a great alternative its the only way I'll go between the two cities and its only a 4 hour drive (I drive it in 3 an a half) so its not even a big difference in time. read more

I have taken megabus numerous times for 4 - 5 hour trips and have been very pleased. Safe drivers, plenty of room, wifi connections, power outlets, etc. I would much rather spend my travel time reading and relaxing instead of driving. And the cost can't be beat! Comfy, fast & cheap. . Compared to Greyhound this us a limo. I had not been on a bus for ages, but decided at $5 to get to Charlotte from Florida via Atlanta when the route first opened, was a no brainier. Besides, with wifi, I just worked the whole way. The biggest thing is Megabus goes nonstop from big city to big city and is so much faster. One of the horrors of Greyhound is everyone constantly getting on & off.and all those stops and hours of riding. I had a couch surfer from France took Megabus from NYC to DC and couch surfed, then to Charlitte & couch surfed with me, then to Atlanta to do the same, and final destination was Cgatanooga, TN. On February 13, 2015, I was kicked off of a Megabus, in the middle of my journey from Cleveland, Ohio to Charlotte, NC. After being physically assaulted by the bus driver, I was left in the dark, at night, in subzero temperatures. This is not something that should happen to anyone, but in my case it was especially frightening because I was declared legally blind in June, 2014, the result of a massive brain tumor which destroyed my optic nerve. There is no more color in my world, everything is hazy, and I am in constant danger of falling down the stairs because I can't perceive them. My sin that got me put off the bus is supposedly that I had one too many bags, which I freely admit is true. I had a suit case which I checked in, making sure it was less than 50 pounds, as I had been instructed. But I had never been told you can only have one carry on, so I did have an H&M shopping bag with me, in addition to a small piece of carry-on luggage. Inside the H&M bag, I carried the multiple sweaters, boots and tights I brought with me to Cleveland because of the extremely cold weather conditions. I did not know it was against the rules. No one on any of the buses I took to get to Cleveland gave any indication that this was against the policy. I received not one look when I boarded the bus from Cleveland two weeks later and headed to Cincinnati. It wasn't as if I was trying to get away with anything, because I had no concept that there was anything to get away with.It was only when I tried to get on the bus in Cincinnati that this became an issue. The layover in Cincinnati is in a parking lot, outside of what I assume is an office building. The bus was due to arrive at 9:30. By 10:00, the bus still hadn't arrived. There was a crowd of us waiting, including two children who were crying from the cold. So it was a stressful situation by the time the bus arrived. As soon as I boarded the bus, putting the bags down so I could show her the my ticket, she very loudly and rudely informed me that I was not getting on her bus with the bags. That it was a violation, and she did not have to let me on her bus. It got contentious, with her insisting I get off her bus, even though it was in the dark, freezing outside, and the middle of nowhere. I insisted that was ridiculous, as her company was the one who violated their own policy when they allowed me to travel with the bags, and it was a policy I had no idea was in place. I tried to get her to see reason - we were in Cincinnati, on a layover, and I knew no one. What did she expect me to do with the bag at that point? I also want it known that the bus was not crowded, and my bag was not crowding anyone or taking up a needed seat. Things got so bad, this woman actually put her hands on me. I did tell her the only way I was getting off that bus was if she made me, all the while trying to reach someone in a higher position to help mediate the situation. At one point, I was standing off the bus, and she was standing in the door. She told someone up front that she was going to step off the bus, and instructed them to close the door behind her so she could leave me. I was on the phone calling Megabus, and was not willing to be left, so I stuck my foot in the door to keep it from closing. That was when she actually took her foot, wrapped it around my leg, and tried to force it from the door. I did not put my hands on her or threaten to do so. When she was unable to move my leg even a little bit, the person in charge of the door tried to move me by repeatedly slamming the door on my body. When that didn't work, I stepped onto the bus to keep from being further assaulted and/or left. She continued to insist I get off; I continued to believe there had to be someone saner to appeal to at the company. She threatened to call the police, which I welcomed at the time. After all, she assaulted me. I did not put my hands on her, and I was only trying to look out for myself by getting the corporation to fulfill their end of our agreement that I get a ride home in exchange for the fee they charged. I was naive enough to think the police would see both sides and be fair. That did not happen. I was still on the bus, speaking with Megabus for the fourth time, when the officer arrived. She got to him first, and I don't know what she told him but he wouldn't even listen to me. He had the same belligerent attitude. I tried to get him to listen to reason, but again, he did have the badge and gun and I was not willing to be shot over the situation - this was Cincinnati, after all - so I had to let it go. I did remember to ask his name, which he said was Tucker, but I didn't get his badge number. Once the officer got involved, she left me behind, stranded in the cold alone. The next bus did not arrive for another 8 hours. No one deserves to be treated that way. Since my experience I have found over 600 complaints. Many of which are by customer who have been left behind. Did she read where I said I would NEVER take another megabus after the experience I had? and why would I? It's just $22 but it' the principle when you provide a crappy service to people. I took the megabus on Monday, January 22, 2018 from Atlanta, GA to Charlotte, NC. The bus broke down in the middle of the highway. The driver couldn't bother to at least pull off to the side of the road to park the bus for safety reasons. There were cars, trucks and trucks passing on either side of the stationary bus with the passengers inside which could have been fatal had we been hit by another vehicle. I had a doctor's appointment and had to take a $111 uber from Cowpens, SC to be able to make it on time to my doctor's appointment which was the reason I chose to take the early bus leaving Atlanta. This was my first time with megabus and I had these issues where my life and safety where put at risk and I had to pay significantly to get to my destination on time. I understand that sometimes things happen but this was wholly unprofessional. The video playing on the bus the whole time said that the bus received a pre-trip inspection to make sure that it was safe to make the trip. How did no one not notice that it had problems that led it to stop in the middle of the highway and endangering the lives of everyone on board? This was a situation that was wholly within your control and as such, deserving of a refund. Due to this horrific experience, I will never take another megabus ever so the redemption codes are not suitable compensation for me. I need my fare refunded to my bank card for this horrible experience. Guess their reply? I took the megabus from Charlotte to DC after hearing good things from friends. I ordered tix, then read reviews which were very helpful in my preparation. I paid $76 for a round trip ticket which was about 50% cheaper than paying for my own gas and meant no wear and tear on my personal car and saved me from having to stay alert for 18 hours, or dodge tricky highway patrol monitors. That alone made it worthwhile for me. You do make four stops: 1) a lunch stop at a convenience store/mcdonalds, 2)Durham to drop-off pick up, 3) Richmond to drop-off pick up. 4) My destination: DC Union Station Get there early for best selection of seats. Some prefer upper deck, others prefer lower. If you have a preference, get there early because people are seated on a first come, first served basis. Be sure to have your reservation number handy either on your phone or a printout. You may be denied w/o this number. Internet access is intermittent. If this is a priority for you, have a back up. You can bring one bag per seat for bus undercarriage and one for under yr seat. Under seat space is very small and does not appear as roomy as on a plane. Bathrooms are avail on the bus, BUT NO WATER TO WASH HANDS. They provide sanitizer. If u are like me and prefer actual moisture, bring moist towellettes like handiwipes. Bus picks up in front of (actually on side of) Charlotte transportation center on Brevard. Coming into/ from DC, the stop is in the bowels of Union Station. No frills city. I would def do this again. My experience was very positive. No loud babies, no obnoxious riders. Bus drivers on both trips were very courteous and professional. Screw this company. Go to greyhound! We took a multiple stop bus, which reconnected at DC. The Megabus that we were on, arrived at 4:15p. The next bus left at 4:00pm. Megabus penalized us for missing that bus, even though, it was their fault that it arrived 15 minutes late. So, guess what we did? Spent another TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS on top of the previous TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS for another trip that they messed up on! This new bus trip we paid for only took us two hours away from our original bus trip. From the original trip, which arrived at 3:35a, we were suppose to get to our next destination at 8:20a. What to know the best part of the second bus ride? Next bus broke down, causing another 3 hour delay. So, entire trip was a 8 to 9 hour delay. It's true you get what you pay for. ITS TOO BAD!!! I'm assuming that because there fairs are so low is the reason they scrape the bottom of the barrel when it comes to employment. I am fairly mild mannered customer because I am in the service industry. But, with this company I have been yelled out, told that ladies keep there legs closed (yes, by an employee), threatened and extorted to give drivers money for saying my bag was too heavy or having a second bag. I took a recent trip in where I had 2 suitcases. A bus driver from another bus said they wont let me on with 2 bags and told me I would have to call customer care, when I tried to explain that we were at a location with no teller and ask for a manager the representative hung up on me. My bus arrives and my driver has no problem with letting me on with 2 bags! I arrive at my next stop and I transfer my bags to the 2nd bus. The bag guy stops me and says its going to be an additional charge. I ask even if I am transferring from another bus, he said yes. I said how much, He looks up and nonchalantly says $20 (like he's a mechanic giving me an inflated quote). I had cash, but I thought he was just going to pocket the money and I said I only have a cc, he directed me to talk to the other guy. The other guy states, it would be $40 and I said the other guy said $20 and he said of that a deal FOR him. I later came down and said all I have is $10 in cash (by now my bags were buried and we were getting ready to leave), so he said ok and took the money. The experience seems super surreal. How does this company treat people like this? It's too bad because aside from the HORRIBLE service, I love the double decker bus, outlets and internet (when working). I take this bus to D.C. a lot and connect to Delaware, Philly, and NYC. This time I'm dropping family off, instead of being dropped or picked up. It's bittersweet. Tonight the bus is sold out.. they are going to be packed in. Unloading & loading tonight is taking abnormally long. Free Wi-Fi onboard and anywhere in close proximity of the bus, so plus for that.. bathrooms onboard can be pretty minimal. Some have toilet paper and hand sanitizer and some just don't. Some smell like blue juice and some smell like a cow died in there 3 weeks ago and the carcass is rotting. It's a pretty average experience for the price. Wish the price was lower and schedule options more diverse. Charlotte to D.C. only leaves twice daily, 1155am and 1130pm. Lately, I've been riding their competition.. several of the Chinese buses that leave throughout the city for a fraction of their price, don't have to make connections, offer the same facilities (Wi-Fi and restroom), and have more scheduling options. .....getting back to tonight's bus, it arrived roughly 20-30 minutes ago and they are still offloading. My family has barely inched up in line and the line behind them has grew tremendously. It probably won't leave until closer to 12 midnight! Usually this bus is much more timely. read more

This bus service gets one star and thats only because of how pleasant the bus driver was she made us feel like family if this was a rating on her excellent customer service alone she will be a 5+ star but the mega bus is a horrible bus company to ride on so me and my girlfriend had got a roundtrip ticket to Alanta and back to DC However, on our way back to DC we had a 12 hour delay in Charlotte NC do to inclement weather and that suddenly came up with no fair warning and no communication with the customers so the delay of course the customer will have to pay more out of pocket then expected for the trip so the trip back to DC was 178 they lodge us in the comfort inn which in Charlotte was 65 a night they didnt feed us we all or most of us such as me ad my girlfriend missed a full day off work the wifi on the bus doesn't work the seats are totally uncomfortable they will not reimburse you for you're inconvenience. They truly do not have the customer at heart as long as you pay them they really care less about whether you get stranded or weather they inconvenience you and then there are people that will still be stranded in DC when there destination ends in New York and they are not compensating them for hotel. They are literally fine with leaving their customers in 20 Degree weather in DC. I recommend not to use this bus service because your safety is not the their intentions and they are intentionally hanging up on customers horrible company to travel with. read more
