Shame on me for giving Megabus a 3rd chance. I will never book another ticket with this company again. The novelty of cheap tickets does not outweigh the pure aggravation you will subject yourself to waiting for busses that are hours late and dealing with drivers who have no sense of urgency. Do yourself a favor and take the train. Like others have said, my most recent experiences with Megabus have been terrible. Not so much because no bus in the last 3 occasions have been on-time (last time the bus was 1 hour late) but mostly because of the nonchalant attitude of the drivers. Simply said, they don't seem to care about their passengers at all. This says to me that Megabus as a company does not incentivize their drivers to be customer oriented (i.e. through training, performance monitoring and/or compensation). Unfortunately those who can't take a train will be subject to Peter Pan/ Greyhound which have similar flaws (at least with those options you have roofed bus stops). read more

The good: Megabus provides a low cost fare. There is a bathroom on board. The bus was clean. The bad: They were 45 minutes late. I wish they had texted me that they would be late, they did not communicate. A fellow traveler called in and was able to determine there was a delay. I thought there would be on board Wi-Fi, there was not. The boarding process is a bit disorganized. Summary: This was not a horrible experience. The folks we were traveling with on this 3 hour ride were an interesting assortment of people. College students, a guy from Poland visiting US Cities, people traveling for work, a woman with her child going on vacation, and an elderly woman on her way to a funeral. If you are on a tight budget, this is a viable, safe option. I recommend you dress in comfortable clothes, bring a snack and water and have the contact information for the bus line with you. Before you go stand outside at the bus stop, call and see what the departure time will be. read more

Note to self: never take Mega Bus. They claim to have working electrical outlets and wifi on their busses, but 9 times out of 10 either one or both of these amenities are broken. I'm sitting on a bus right now with puddles of white smelly liquid in the stairwells, broken outlets and a wifi signal that is so weak it is literally impossible to connect to it. I'm not saying these amenities should be standard on a bus ride. But if you are a company that is using these things to entice customers, then you should keep these options in good working order. Last year I planed a trip to Philadelphia using Megabus as our means of transportation My granddaughter and I Took mega bus from new haven ct to nyc then a connect bus to Philadelphia with what was suppose to be a two hour layover in nyc Worst time management service ever Bus sat in New Haven Ct for half hour then got to NYC with 15 min to get to next bus for Philadelphia ran from 34th and 7th Ave to 34th and 12th Ave, it was going to be a leisurely walk for my granddaughter and I instead it turned into a crazy ass mad dash across mid town manhattan. First off, logistics: the Hartford stop is on Columbus Blvd, just before Talcott St. It's also the stop for the DASH and CTTransit lines. There is a Megabus sign about 25 ft away from the DASH/CTTransit signs. I've posted a photo of the stop. We got the 12:45pm bus to Boston on a Saturday. It arrived at 1:28pm. We called their customer service line at 1:00pm to see where the bus was at, since there was no status online. They asked us to call back if the bus is more then 30 min late. Ok, no prob. Called back at 1:16. They said they would now send an email to the driver asking what was the delay estimate. Seemed a bit wierd to me, but hey, there we go. There is a Hertz at the corner, which was our fallback plan. Luckily the bus arrived 10 min later. It was labeled Dattco. We are on the bus, the driver is nice, the bus is clean and quiet. I have travelled in Asia, Mexico, and Eastern Europe and never ridden on anything as disgusting and gross as Megabus. It may be cheap but but it's not worth it. If you have any other choice take it. Just went to New York and came back. Worst buses ever!!! You pay on dollar and you expect one dollar service but when u see advertised a whole bunch of stuff and u spend more money then u expect them. The wifi internet did not work on both buses The power outlets did not either. The left side of the bus was pumping cold air but the right right of the bus was pumping hot air. That's great! Trip took 5 hours we Never had a stop !! The driver could not stop apologizing for all the things going wrong with his bus! I've purchased two tickets for Friday June 7th from Hartford to New York, and from New York to Hartford. In Hartford on my way to NY, the air-condition felt really cold, like a freezer box, that the majority of the passengers started coughing, including myself. I did see an older lady bring up the situation to the female driver, but nothing happened. Once we arrived in New York the bus driver acted as if she wasn't aware that the bus was freezing cold, when on her side it was pretty warm. On my way back to Hartford leaving from New York it was the same thing, the bus was so cold that some passengers placed t-shirts over their heads or anything in terms of fabric to keep themselves warm. It was raining hard that day, and we were all wet, with damp clothing. I like others asked the bus driver if he could turn off the AC or turn on the heat. He replied that it's out of his hands because the engineer who designed the bus did not installed an automatic options button for the driver to control. I don't see how that is possible, he could of called someone or report or find a way to turn on the heat. Some one must be in charge of the heat, what about in the winter who then turns or controls the heat? Sadly, I'm very upset with Mega Bus for allowing passages to deal with such torture, which is what it felt like. I was coughing like others while damp from the rain, and as a result, I'm now sick with the flu. I would never purchase another Mega Bus ticket ever; someone needs to fix that issue, that's no way to treat customers. I rather go back to PETER PAN. read more

I would give this service zero stars if possible. The customer service is outsourced and have no information or ability to help customers. My first Megabus ticket will be my only (New Haven - New York City). In this case, I was stranded at the New Haven bus station for 3 hours. The bus to New York City never came, and Megabus customer service had no information, other than reassuring me that the bus had not arrived at New Haven yet, and was still en-route due to traffic issues. Four others were also stranded, and by 3 hours later (1pm), without any help or information from customer service, we finally bought train tickets into the city. While waiting for Megabus, its customer service informed us that there was a 1pm bus coming, but that we could not board it without purchasing an additional ticket, and also confirmed that our bus had never arrived. I assumed we would receive a refund, but Megabus customer service again offered no information, other than that the GPS stated the bus had arrived on time, and we'd simply missed it, somehow. We were outside waiting, and no bus came. Apparently, this is common with Megabus. You can find more accounts of this occurrence online. To me, this amounts to fraud. It's a $22 ticket, but I can understand how they make profits, since customer service (and actual service) is essentially nonexistent. I'm sure when the bus actually arrives, it's great. But that's a huge gamble. I'll never take Megabus again. Ever. Because if the bus doesn't arrive, or has any issues, you are never seeing your money again. You just end up in customer service hell, for all eternity. read more

We haven't crashed, but the smell of the broken toilet has us covering our noses. The bus lurches , and shudders over bumps, and frequently slows like the driver is riding the brake. I have rode with Megabus three times and all of them the bus was 40 minutes late to show up. The last time however the driver was extremely rude to all the riders and she barely glanced at my ticket when I showed her my registration number. Two hours later I found out that my bus was heading to Burlington, VT instead of Boston, MA. There were multiple other people on the bus who were also supposed to be heading to Boston. They left us on the side of the road in Amherst MA and said that another bus should be by in an hour or two. Megabus has absolutely horrible timing, customer service, and extremely is all around a completely unacceptable way to travel. I would give them 0 stars if possible. As a young woman traveling alone I found it ridiculous that they left me alone on the side of the road with "maybe" another bus coming in an hour. Despite their advertisement that they provide internet that is false. We tried connecting for half of the trip on multiple devices both ways on our devices and the internet simply does not work . I went to put my bag into the luggage area myself but the worker insisted he take it and then complained to me about heavy my bag was. Was rude in general to passengers. Our ride to nyc was an hour and half late getting into the city with absolutely no updates from the driver. We stopped at Burger King but the driver never stated how much time we had or why we were stopping. A few people almost missed the bus because he just took off. I'm always so tempted to take this bus cause it offers such low fares if booked early enough in advance, but dammit this is the last time. I get to the pickup site in NYC. Shitshow. People everywhere in a clusterF*[k. No real line delineations despite there being two or three employees there to keep it organized. Bus scheduled to depart at 11:10. It ARRIVED to the pickup site at 11:10. Ok, fine, maybe stuck in traffic or fixing a bus glitch, whatever. But then the employees take their sweet sweet time getting people on the bus. We don't leave until 20 mins after scheduled departure. During the trip the driver snails it the whole way. Hanging in the right lane with everyone passing. If you're gunna roll out late you better haul a$$ to makeup for lost time. FOUR HOURS LATER we are just getting through Hartford. NYC to Hartford should take two hours. Needless to say I missed my connecting bus in Boston and had to pay an additional $35 for a new ticket. Woulda been cheaper to fly. Usually I am understanding if there are delays for reasonable reasons but they literally just have no regard for other people's schedules. I see these buses almost daily on my commute. Once, the bus swerved into my lane, forcing me to swerve into the next lane. Twice I've seen these buses drive in the breakdown lane to avoid rush hour traffic. Currently I'm on hold, it's been 20 min, with the corporate headquarters, trying to report their dangerous driving. The last time I called I was assured someone would get back to me immediaetly. 3 weeks later I got a form email saying I'm sorry your trip was unsatisfactory.
