YO. my trip to philly was great. but my trip back was a nightmare!!!!!!!! We were suppose to leave philly at 2:25 AM . OKAY so 3 girls. in philly in the wee hours. It's 3 AM ..where is the bus?!!?!?!?!?!?! I mean good thing we were in a car and all..BUT SERIOUSLY. if you have buses operating that late and its NOT at the place its suppose to be have the decency to send out some TEXTS OR EMAILS or..OPEN YOUR GODDAMN customer service line!!!! Unfortunately this review is not so great. I use Megabus rather often for myself as well as purchasing tickets for my mom to visit from out of town. There's often some delay and never clear instructions as to what is next or where to stand or any valuable information. The Megabus I'm Washington DC Union Station is equally horrible of not worse. In this very moment, I'm waiting with my m for her 9pm bus that has not shown yet and it's now almost 11pm. All in all, I really really want to like Megabus, I really do. read more

Have used megabus many times in the past. Todays driver was nasty when told that heat in bus was excessive. He turned it down for a few minutes and then right back up again. Temperature must be 80 plus and several people were nauseous and throwing up. Good luck to next passengers sitting in vomit. Additionally he had his music blaring for tte whole trip 10 pm to 1 am. Had an OK experience on a bus from NYC to Annapolis. Buses left on time, clean and weren't overly crowded. They did have WiFi, but somehow on both trips to and from, the power outlets didn't work. Because power outlets are listed as an amenity, the bus driver definitely should have announced that they weren't working - it's poor customer service to state that something is provided and then not have it without any explanation. Even though the power outlet thing wasn't a huge issue, it speaks to a lower standard of customer service, which is obviously reflected in some of the other reviews. So essentially when it's good it's too, but when it's bad, it's really bad. The price is low, but it seems like a gamble to take this chance again. read more

First let me say I absolutely hate taking buses because they are slow and are prone to breaking down, traffic, etc. Needless to say, I bought two tickets to Harrisburg from Philadelphia for Friday October 30th, 2015. My issue doesn't lie with my commute but with their customer service. Although I only paid $35.60 for two tickets, where Amtrak would be $33 for one ticket one way, I WILL NEVER RIDE WITH MEGABUS AGAIN. So, at the last minute my guest decided not to come to Harrisburg. So I told the person at the bus I only needed to use one ticket and asked could I use the other one to come home? He didn't know and directed me to customer service. When I called customer service they told me my account is locked after 6 hours before my trip. Clearly it's after my trip, so I was told to email the company. The response I got via email said the same exact script as the people in their sales department. Long story short I'm SOL out of my $18 unused ticket, and they lost a frequent traveling customer. Complete garbage company and customer service. I showed up 10 minutes early at the right place in Philly for my bus and stood in line for what I thought was the right bus (the one directly in front of the bus that said DC). All of a sudden the bus just took off without me. I tried to find someone around and all the people that looked like they would be working there were on their phones. I tried to get assistance from them but they just pointed at the sign and went back to playing on their phones. I called customer service and they were completely useless. They just wanted me to spend more money and didn't care that their employees were completely useless and unreachable. This company is absolutely garbage and I really hope the worst for them. read more

Megabus seems less and less reliable. One time I took the bus from Philadelphia to Toronto, the bus was late arriving to pick up passengers so that we left Philly about an hour later than scheduled. There was no attempt to make up for lost time. We still sat at various stops for way too long. We finally arrived in Toronto a few hours late. Other times, the bus hasn't been quite as late departing from Philadelphia, but ends up arriving quite late anyways, because of over-long stops. Megabus could do better if they kept customers better informed. If the bus is late, don't tell passengers to arrive 15 minutes early. There are also problems with the climate control; air conditioning is often way too cold on the bus. Tickets seem to be more expensive now. read more

I took Washington Deluxe to New York last time and it was great. But sitting on this bus right now I'm really wishing I had booked Washington Deluxe...it's got Wifi (slow) and power outlets which is great but the AC is not working and it's hot as hell in here. I'm on the top deck and my goodness,I have sweat running down my face and my back is soaked.... totally unacceptable.... some people up here went downstairs to see if there was anywhere to sit but there were no seats. Actually, bolt bus is better. I feel megabus is squished and jam packed in comparison. I gave 5 stars compared to chinatown bus, but then i got into a bolt bus... literally a breath of fresh air. Megabus: the last couple of times someone smelly sat RIGHT NEXT TO ME. I had to sleep to survive. Could not breathe through my nose. Please people! Practice good hygiene out of consideration for your fellow riders. I know this isn't megabus' fault, but just fyi. Still megabus is a good value :) read more

I've taken the Megabus from Philly to NYC, and I've had a good experience so far. The only reason why I'm giving it one less star is the wifi was weak on my way back from NYC. I can see it being uncomfortable for a tall or fat person. I feel like services like these get poor reviews because most people only review when they have a bad experience. I took the Megabus from Philly to NYC back in December, and I have nothing but good things to say about it. The bus arrived on time, the driver was courteous, and we even arrived in NYC earlier. My fare was considerably cheaper than Amtrak or flying (faster than flying too if you account for waiting in line at TSA) and Megabus drops you off in the heart of Manhattan, not waaay out of the city at JFK. 5/5 I'd ride Megabus again. read more

I tried to be cost efficient and take megabus and it resulted in one of my worst travel experiences ever, and I was on a plane that had a cargo fire and had to be diverted for an emergency landing, and megabus was worse than that. I have used megabus a few times before and have ignored the poor wifi and late starts since it is very economical. However, I will never be using Megabus again after the way I was treated on my trip from NYC to Philly. First, in NYC despite my bag being loaded only a minute before I was not allowed to ask for my suitcase back to grab my phone charger. While I am understanding that they did not want me to cause a back up in the line the attitude I was met with was unnecessary. Once arriving to my destination I left the bus at 6th and market, which is the destination I requested. However, apparently my bag was loaded into the 30th street station side in error. When I explained this to the driver he first accused me of lying and then told me he refused to get my bag and I would have to go to 30th street to get it. I will never be using this service again and will be solely using either train transportation or BoltBus. Neither of those services have treated me with the disrespect and carelessness that this Megabus experience did. read more

tried booking a last minute trip via the automated system yesterday for a very important trip today. transaction was denied twice yesterday and once again this morning. also tried with another card today, also transaction denied. $113 was the cost for the round trip ticket. today, someone else tried to book one for me and they got transaction denied too. the system is not working. we then called to buy over the phone and they jacked the price over $50 to $170 total. to hell with that, i'll fly for cheaper. it wasn't my fault their system was not working and they seem to not care. i'd avoid these people at all costs. read more

I have always had a decent experience with Megabus. Free wifi and power outlets at each seat. Usually on time and an easy way to get to NYC from Philly. I like that Megabus is pretty inexpensive and the service is friendly and I have little to no complaints. If I had to say one thing, I wish they would load the buses a little sooner, especially when it is very hot out or very cold. But this isn't even much of a complaint, rather a suggestion for the future. Overall, worth taking if you want an inexpensive and convenient way to get somewhere without having to buy a train ticket. read more

Hot garbage juice! The bus was supposed to come at 7:50 pm on Saturday. We stood around and waited and waited and asked when the bus was coming. Finally around 8ish, the agent informed us that the bus has been cancelled because they didn't have a driver. But we could wait for the 9:50 bus. Somebody asked what if that bus doesn't have a driver. The agent said he doesn't know until he gets the information from The Yard. So I left and caught a train back to Philly. When I called customer service for a refund, they said that they couldn't because it showed that the bus came at 8:25 pm, which is a lie, but I could take a redemption code. I don't want a redemption code. I want my money back. Lies that the bus came at 8:25 pm, because I saw people I was in line with still roaming around trying to pass time until the bus came. read more

Interested in getting the most bang for your buck? Well then look no further, because I got way more than I bargained for on my last (and to emphasize this will be my LAST) trip with Megabus. I paid for a trip from Philadelphia to NYC and in the process got heat exhaustion, threatened to be left on the side of a highway and 2+ weeks of arguing and unanswered emails with customer service with no resolution! On Friday 7/19/19 I took a Megabus from Philadelphia, PA (30th St. Station) to NYC. I sat on the top level of bus. Shortly into the trip I noticed how increasingly warm it was getting. Granted we were experiencing a bit of a heat wave, but this was not normal for an air conditioned bus. Another passenger and myself noticed that the heat was on....the radiators/vents were hot to touch and blasting out heat. We notified the bus driver who pulled the bus over and told us there was nothing she could do about it and informed us our options were to either get out and wait ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY WE WERE ON in 100 degree weather FOR 2 HOURS until the next bus comes or continue on the trip in the 150 degree bus and she would "make a note of it in her log". Needless to say by the time the trip ended I was physically ill. I contacted customer service to discuss the issue and request a refund. I was told that the driver never made a report so there wasn't much they could do. I was persistent and they escalated the issue and I was told via email that they were investigating and that someone would reach out to me in 3-5 business days regarding a resolution. This did not happen....after almost 2 weeks and multiple emails I sent requesting a follow up, I was finally contacted and was told they were issuing me a credit to be used on a future trip. First of all, BOLD assumption to think that I would ever be using Megabus again after that experience. Secondly, the credit was for $13....that doesn't even cover one way of my $50 dollar trip I paid for. I sent another email requesting a full refund and was told the matter was now closed and no further resolution would be reached. That's fine....Megabus may not be interested what I have to say but my lawyer certainly is! Hope the $50 was worth it! read more

Megabus is a completely hit-or-miss experience. When it works, it's a good and convenient transportation option. When it doesn't--which unfortunately is regularly--your travel plans are ruined. I refuse to take it, but my kids continue to use Megabus, and regularly get burned. We've had two experiences with my kids in the past six months when a bus from Philly to New York simply didn't show up. Today, the pick-up location had a street closure due to a July 4 parade. We waited at the stop anyway while calling Megabus customer service, were put on hold, and then disconnected. No bus arrived (as street was closed to traffic), no help could be obtained from Megabus customer service, so my kid had to cancel her trip and come home. Same experience several months ago--the bus failed to arrive, and after waiting hours without being able to resolve the situation with customer service, my kid finally left the bus stop and ended up catching an Amtrak train from Philly to New York, arriving hours after she should have. Customer service is completely unhelpful--they disconnect you, or tell you you will get a call back in several days, and no one ever calls back. We've learned that if you pay for a ticket and the bus never comes, the only way to get a refund is to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. This takes a lot less time than waiting on hold for an unresponsive Megabus customer service rep. We got a refund for the first no-show bus, and filed another complaint today to get a refund for the second no-show bus today. Take the train instead if you need to arrive at your destination. read more

Megabus does not care about their customers and their customer service representatives are very rude. I had a reservation from Philly to NYC at 4:20 am on July 20th. On July 14th they sent me an email saying the time was changed to 4:50 and the location changed too so I made a note and saved the new time and location. The day of I showed up there around 15 minutes earlier and I waited. The bus never came and later I called their customer service and they told me the bus left when it was supposed to at 4:20 even though when I logged on their site it clearly said 4:50. When I called a representative about it he was contradicting me and telling me I was wrong when I had the email right in front of me. If I ended up taking this to court the judge would definitely side with me because I have proof. I told him that he can't tell me I am wrong when I'm looking at it and he hung up on me. Rudest customer service ever. I will contact the consumer protection office for sure. read more

Terrible customer service. I called looking for my late bus. They couldn't locate it told me to call back in 10mins. When I called back they told me bus had already came and left. Apparently I was supposed to know that after booking the M23 I should have gotten on the M21. Booking email has no communication regarding this and reservation # even reflects the M23. Had to buy a second ticket because I had no other options at that point. Thankful for the driver who let me on the next bus even though I had to rebook a later one. read more

I took a megabus from NEW YORK to Philadelphia. It was a pleasant experience. U can buy ticket at the bus stop for $15, if seats are available when the bus leaves. Also u can buy it online for $12.50($9 fare + $1.50 booking fee + $1 seat select). Waiting for the bus is a bit inconvenient since the bus departs from outdoor. However the bus it self was pleasant. 2 floor bus was clean with free wifi & outlets. I will defiantly ride it again. read more

Some general rules to enjoy your trip on Megabus: 1. Lower your expectations. This is a low-cost transportation service. Low-cost will never be luxury. 2. Get to your bus early, not on time. You will be left behind if you're late, and you will not be able to jump on the next service unless there's room and unless you feel like handing over some cash. 3. Your bus will not show up on time. Expect this. Out of all the trips I've taken, only a handle of times has the bus picked us up when it was supposed to. 4. Charge your devices before the trip. Yes, there are plugs and wifi on the bus. Half of the time those things don't work. 5. Be prepared for the occasional freak. Being a low cost service, Megabus attracts some interesting clientele. I swear they should keep some anti-psychotic medications in the first aid kit. read more
