Took a trip from Washington, D.C. to NYC on 12/31 and back again the next day. Buses were very clean and on time. The seats were quite comfortable for a ~4 hour ride. I was definitely skeptical of taking Megabus as many people negatively review it, but I had a great experience as it was my first bus trip with great distance. Only con for me was they didn't turn on the power outlets until we made our stop which was in Baltimore, MD. The outlets charged fast for me which was a life saver. Definitely will take Megabus again if I ever need to! read more

The dispatcher said it would be at least another hour and a half. We instead reluctantly took a much more expensive Lyft. I have used this company for many years every time my family and I went to NY. The bus and the driver were good. Until I got an emergency to change my tickets on the same day and I called them. All they could do was just tell me to email the company and nothing happened. I ended up buying new tickets. I learned my mistake from changing my last-minute booking. Now I want to change my tickets 10 days before my trip then they still won't let me cancel. The only option is to trade it for another ticket. I had 2 tickets and I traded 1 ticket and said I have credit for the amount of money I paid for 2 tickets. After I processed the ticket, all my credit amount was gone. That means I paid for 2 tickets round trip and got only 1 ticket. It's a scam company! I called them 4 times, and they said nothing they could do but email them again. Wow. Awful. I'm on the bus right now and will update later. Where do I start? Baltimore to NYC 8:40 bus Seats as uncomfortable as possible. Tiny. No leg room. Horrible. No place to store anything ... No overhead storage...not built that way. Seat back pockets torn. Floor so dirty and disgusting that we hesitate to put anything underneath but we have no choice. Workers were polite but not too helpful. My seats were double booked. Their response was sort of "oh well. See if you can work it out w the other people.". Fortunately we did Got to the seat ... Mine had some rubber cover on it which had a large puddle of something ... Oil? Extreme body sweat? Pee? Don't know. We discovered that the rubber cover could come off. Pulled it off which pulled the seat cushion off of its rails. Got that back on but left rubber thing on the floor Now driving... Broken skylight (the glass part that creates shade broken but the upper glass is ok) but pieces of glass tinkle down, it blocks no sun so we're all blinded and it has created a greenhouse in the top level ... I uploaded the app. I completed info re: Specialty needs. What mobility device I use, info about my service dog etc. The following week and a half later.I went to board my bus. It wasn't a Megabus, it was a Charter Coach. After everyone else was boarded he tells me one Im not on his list, then says he doesn't know how to load me. Ask if I can do the stairs..... I couldn't used the reservation. according to them it is not there fault I missed my bus. even airlines give you 24 hours for any inconvenience you may have. My backpack was taking 1 extra seat and I was asked by the employee to remove it but an African girl whose stuff was taking 3 extra seats and a table wasn't asked a thing. When I confronted why was I asked but not the person who was taking 3 times more space I was threatened to be removed from the bus. Also other African passengers jumped in insisting I should remove. Nope and nope. I took a round trip from NYC TO RICHMOND, VA. They subcontract with 2 regional bus companies to sell this itinerary - Peter Pan and Virginia Breeze. I was an hour late for my connections. On the way down, the Megabus customer service spoke to the dispatcher and held the bus. But on the way back, customer service would not hold the bus and as we pulled in, I saw the NYC Peter Pan bus pulling away. Since there were 3 people on my bus I see why they don't care, but also isnt this lack of coordination, bad for business? I will most likely pay more for Amtrak next time. read more

We had the worst time experience ever. My wife and I with two young daughters booked a return trip from Stewart Airport to New York City. And pre booked a day trip from NYC to Washington and back. The coach smelled of weed and had sticky seats and broken seatbelts. It was over 100 degrees and when asking the drives for some fresh air, she completely switched off the ventilation. Queuing up was a disaster resulting angry mobs cutting lines while standing there being harassed by many people who try to trick you into a cab, yelling that the busses are full. No proper representatives are present to guide the process. And both times, the bus was delayed more than 30 minutes. This is the worst coach company read more

FTLOG, DO NOT USE THIS BUS COMPANY! I took the bus for a journey (I won't share the route for privacy reasons) but it should've been a 5 hour journey. I can confirm it should've been 5 hours because I took another bus from a different company and that is how long it took with them. The bus from this company ended up taking ~8 hours to make the journey. The first contributing factor to this was that for most of the journey, the driver was going between thirty and fifty mph on the highway, which is not only annoyingly slow, it is dangerous because other busses, cars, and trucks around us were travelling at seventy to eighty mph. The driver would also pull over to the shoulder every hour-ish and take a 15 min break on his phone. At the end of the journey, we were almost to the destination (I have confirmed with other passengers, this driver has done the route before) the driver turns the bus around and drives for half an hour in the wrong direction, claiming that he didn't know where he was going. It took a passenger directing him to reach our destination ~3 HOURS LATE! Not only was that part of the experience awful, the bus was also quite dirty, seats weren't that comfortable, and lacked working outlets. The company also overbooked the bus, and had to call a second one to pick up whoever couldn't fit on the main bus (that bus just followed mine, meaning that they also had the same travel experience). I have to hand it to Megabus...they were on time! They departed and arrived within one minute of the scheduled time on each end. I really appreciate that. This is my first bus ride from DC to NYC, so some of my observations might be "normal." Here go the positives and negatives... Positives: On time! Comfortable ride. Pleasant staff. The schedule has the most options. Negatives: I arrived 30 minutes early as suggested. There was no one there until about 10 minutes before we left. Not too big of a deal, but it was 21 degrees and windy. Next, the price was fully double what it was on the carrier we returned on (same day). I really didn't see an appreciable difference in comfort or service. I'd probably take Megabus again, if for nothing else due to its reliability and scheduling choices. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by Megabus. I scored a $5 bus ticket to Philly and with all the negative Yelp reviews, I was expecting the worst: ever hear of, "you get what you pay for?" We were told to arrive 15 minutes before the departure time. I'm familiar with the bus hub at Union Station and there was adequate signage to locate the Megabus station. I had checked their website earlier to try to track the bus, but it wasn't giving any additional information. But lo and behold, several Megabus-es were already present, ready to go. After showing the staff my ticket, we boarded quickly and left right on time. I sat in the General Seating area on the second level. Either there were no outlets or they are super concealed because I couldn't locate any. My bus was pretty empty, so we were able to spread out. It was an evening trip so the bus was quiet and dark, perfect for catching some zzz's. The heat was blasting; I was roasting. WiFi worked for the first leg of the trip to Baltimore, but then stopped working and never came back online. I found the seats to be slightly uncomfortable- either I wore the wrong pants, the seats are super worn out, or the bus isn't level, because I kept sliding down my seat. We were about 20 minutes late to Baltimore due to traffic, but we ultimately made it to Philly 10-15 minutes early! Can't complain about that! read more

You get what you pay for. Inexpensive service means that it's not much for frills. If by frills, you're only looking for transportation then you won't be too disappointed. But if you're looking for things like on time arrival or a comfortable seat or wifi that works, consider something else. We were late. You can't blame them for I-95 traffic... BUT we were 45 minutes late departing because (according to the dispatcher) "we are waiting on the driver." That's a Megabus issue. Wifi zone, eh? Nope. I would have been okay with slow service but this was NO service. My phone and my laptop could each connect to their hotspot but they did not get out to the Internet. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!! I dropped my mother off at the bus stop we were told to me be at which was a parking lot. We saw the bus pull in however she pulled in on the OPPOSITE side of the parking lot. She pulled in at 11:54 and pulled out within the same minute. She was only there for 30 seconds. We caught up to her at the light and she still denied my mom access because we weren't on the correct side even though there were no indicators of where to stand for the bus in the parking lot. The bus also stopped in Baltimore to switch drivers when this was expected to be a direct flight. Upon returning home. The bus was late again. Expected to arrive to NYC at 5:55 pm did not arrive until 8pm. Absolutely unreliable and caused family member to miss access a ride pick up. Find another bus company. I took a round trip up to NYC from DC and back. I won't factor in traffic or passenger etiquette, as Megabus has no control over that. My review is based on bus condition and driver experience. The trip up felt like a disaster. The seats were uncomfortable and I found myself squirming around a lot trying to get comfortable. My seat also seemed to be reclined and I couldn't get it to sit back up. Additionally the air flow in the bus was poor (we sat on the top level towards the front), and seemed to barely trickle into the cabin. Someone did mention this to the driver who said he would see if he could do something about it as it was warm on the second level, but nothing could be done. There were also three unexpected stops. One involved picking up a late passenger on the side of the road after they missed the bus at the stop (I suppose that was courteous of the driver but I found it to be obnoxious), a stop at a rest stop that was supposed to be 15 minutes but was more like a half an hour, and a five minute...rather abrupt stop on the side of the highway because the bus driver needed to take a phone call (the aggressiveness of the stop was alarming to most passengers as no warning was given and some actually thought we were going to crash based on how abrupt the stop was). The driver got us there but that's about all he did. There were no instruction or explanation to the "amenities" on the bus (there was no Wi-Fi on either trip even though there was supposed to be, but that wasn't explained on this trip). We arrived to NYC two hours later than expected...some of that being traffic, but some of it being the unexpected stops...when we arrived there was no attendant to unload the luggage on the back of the bus, which became a chaotic free for all as people pushed and shouted their way to get their luggage. If I was rating on this leg alone I'd only give one star. The trip back was better. While the bus was not very clean, the seat was more functional and comfortable, and the cabin air flowed normally. The driver gave a five minute talk in the beginning about the amenities and how to access them. There was still no Wi-Fi and the driver apologized for that but at least he told everyone in advance. This leg was on schedule. We left on time and arrived on time. No surprise stops on the side of the road. I'd rate this leg 3 stars (knocking a couple points for the cleanliness of the bus and the lack of Wi-Fi). It's not the most luxurious accommodations but I'm not expecting that from an inexpensive bus trip. Would I recommend Megabus? Not based on the first leg of the trip but certainly for the trip back. I'm a bit older now and I think this will be my official retirement from bus trips, but if your strapped for cash and need an inexpensive option, this isn't the worst you could do (but it might be close to the worst). read more

I would like to take a moment to recount the happenings of my current Megabus experience. At this moment, I am on Megabus DD604 from New York to Washington DC and the following has happened. * We waited in the sun for an hour while our bus was there with the doors open. * We get on and the bus is sweltering hot. * The driver comes upstairs and berates a customer for trying to find a seat with his maybe 5 year old children. * We leave New York for maybe five minutes to have the bus's air conditioning go completely out and we pull over just outside of the Lincoln Tunnel. * No one communicated why we pulled over, how long we would be, could we get off on the side of the road, all the while cops are showing up and passengers on the bus are dropping in sweat. *Finally, we're told another bus is coming to pick us up and when it arrives we have to move our own luggage from one bus to the other and stack it in the luggage bay. *The original driver apparently told one passenger we were going back to New York while the new driver said we were continuing as normal, so the whole bus was in a panic. It wasn't until we pulled off that we were told where we were going. * After all this, when the train stopped in Baltimore, the driver had the audacity to turn off the bus's air conditioning, which wasn't working all that much better than the first bus. And all of this was on our way home. That's not to mention the bus trip on our way to New York that includes weaving through traffic and speeding enough to get pulled over by a cop. read more

I'm writing this review while sitting in a broken down Megabus on the side of the highway in New Jersey. We've been stranded now for an hour. No idea when the replacement bus will arrive. My advice: avoid this company and splurge on a train ticket. EDIT: After we finally arrived in DC, the bus driver came on the intercom and told us that we should call Megabus and we'd be able to get a refund or credit for the inconvenience of being stranded on the highway with no A/C for 90 minutes. Today I called Megabus, and they offered me "credit in the amount of 25% of the dollar value of the purchase price." Translation: they're giving me a measly $8 in credit that I'll never use because I'll be avoiding this company like the plague. Terrible service, terrible buses, terrible phone support. Megabus is doing a fantastic job allowing me to travel / sightsee: New England, Canada, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio and More Southern States. I must also add multi trips to New York and Philadelphia plus elsewhere around DC very affordably. I ask once to meet with the mascot getting a picture of me thanking him for the affordable travel for just $1. One od characteristic I find on Megabus that I never find on other bus services is the load of trailer trash on the bus. I do find at the closer I've been to the United States (away from DC) the less of it there is. Charlotte, North Carolina seems to have the more trailer trash on the buses. read more

This mode of transportation should be your absolute LAST resort. Do not follow the time-to-location that they provide online. I have never left nor arrived to my destinations on time. For my own fiscal responsibility I ride the bus so I can work on my laptop instead of drive. I have gone to and from NY--DC at least 5 times. There are only 4 seats available with a table before you have to pay extra. The drivers are consistently rude and unaccommodating. The staff loading bags are at least kind and helpful but most other employees are consistently rude and unhelpful. There is some space behind the table seats that could easily fit a bag or coat but most drivers won't let you use it and say it's a safety hazard ( the area has rails around it so that doesn't make sense ). Additionally, the driver takes the two seats behind him/herself so I would not anticipate being allowed to sit in those roomier seats. Summary: You get what you pay for on megabus. If you are able to go to a slightly less convenient pickup/drop off, GoBus has always been a more comfortable and timely trip for me. read more

LOW EXPECTATIONS. That's the ONLY way to tolerate the experience. I hadn't ridden in a Megabus in a VERY long time so I'd forgotten a lot of things. Had I remembered them I'd have NEVER ridden with Megabus. But for the cheap price (sometimes as low as $10 for my specific routes), you get what you pay for. Cheap 1. The seats don't recline 2. The reserved/rich ppl seats are a bit roomier but not by much 3. There is NO overhead storage. You can only store your big bag under the bus and your carry on under your seat. I HATE putting my bag on the floor but didn't have a choice 4. The bus was a WHOLE hour late. At least we got an email, but by then it was WAY too late since we'd already been in line 5. The employees and drivers were actually very nice so no issues there 6. Thank GAWD it was an overnight bus ride cuz I slept the ENTIRE time and didn't have to be conscious for how sucky the ride was. 7. I've already booked two other trips with Megabus and I really wish I hadn't. If I could I would switch to Greyhound in a heart beat. I'll have to suck it up for now. 8. There is a Wi-Fi network. I couldn't connect but it did make sure to let you know you can't stream ANYTHING on it. Basically you can't do anything that's worth doing with Wi-Fi. 9. I am from MN. Was visiting my relatives in Potomac, MD. I am the mother and was traveling from DC to NYC with 3 children today and will fly to MN on the weekend. We don't use public transportation (bus, train). We either take the airplane or drive our own vehicle. But we wanted to experience a bus ride with the kids, relax, enjoy the view during the Summer break. We sat on the upper deck. About 45 min in the travel, we noticed the AC was not working. It got very hot. I went to the driver and said politely that the AC was not working. I don't know the name of the driver, but he was an African American man. The driver looked at me and screamed "don't shout at me". There was no shouting from my side. I simply reported the issue. Then he shouted to me "Go back to your seat". I was shocked and surprised with such behavior. Where I am from or the circle I am in, no body shouts like this. Observing this behavior, a lady and her family approached the driver, and told him that no one was shouting at him. It was a very polite attempt to report an issue on the bus. The driver got very angry, stopped the but in the middle of the road, and Started shouting to all of us saying some thing like "If you complain, I will not drive the bus. You will sit here for 3 hours and another bus will come and take you. I will not drive the bus". After repeated effort to reason with him, he finally agreed to go up upstairs and found the AC was not working at all. But he did not apologize. We went downstairs and sat there just to get over with this bus ride. I have never experienced such a mis-behavior and never knew this could happen and worst of all, in front of my children. All the passengers were very disturbed by this rude driver. They expressed their disbelief and how it will affect their future ride with this company. We will always remember this ugly experience with Megabus driver. I did email the CEO Linda Burtwistle to look into this driver and terminate him. GARBAGE (DC to NYC) After 2+ hours of waiting for a bus to arrive, we were told there was no ETA for the next bus. This was after 9:00 p.m. Finally opted to make the drive ourselves and pay the tolls, etc. Asked customer service for a refund. They did not offer to refund even a portion of the cost or even bother apologizing for the lack of communication regarding the extensive delays. They charged extra to sign up for a text message service to communicate delays, etc. and was not sent a single text about the prolonged delays. I will never use this scam again. read more
